Terrifying orca (killer whale) attack on a yacht in the Gibraltar Straights

on the 20th of june 2021 at approximately 16 30 having crossed the bay of cadiz just off trafalgar we interacted with three juvenile killer whales what happened next was 20 minutes of hell as the animals willfully played with my new 23 ton bavaria c57 as if it was a toy after the interaction my boat was severely disabled with one rudder 90 degrees to the other and both significantly shorter after the skipper had applied some heroic on the move repairs we managed to get what was left of both rudders operating again we limped on under engine into a linear and had an emergency lift out the following morning i understand that spanish government has now implemented a ban for any sailing vessel under 15 meters to transverse the area apparently there has been over 50 incidents of interaction over the past two months 25 of these requiring the vessels to be towed ashore after leaving la linea and arriving at san carlos marina south of barcelona the surveyor came on board and did a thorough examination of all the boat steering gear there was significant damage not only to the rudders but also the steering quadrant and control lines this video footage shows the event as it happens and you can see parts of the rudder coming to the surface it so so so so so so so so so it's a they're pretty tough you
