Video shows orca biting off boat’s rudders in waters off Spain l GMA

now to the rise in killer whale attacks video emerging shows in Orca biting off the Rudders of a boat and Waters off Spain as we also see some unusual behavior closer to home Trevor alt joins us now with more good morning Trevor good morning Michael it's a very big day for whale news enthusiasts as we have been reporting scientists theorize a whale named Gladys off the coast of Spain has been teaching other whales to attack boats and this morning we have new video of one of those attacks and at the same time researchers here at home they say that they've just spotted a pot of orca whales off the coast of the Atlantic in a location they have never seen them before this morning newly surfaced video of another orca whale attacking a boat this time off the coast of Gibraltar counter you see the whale pulling back from the 48-foot catamaran having ripped off the rudder with its teeth dropping part of it into the sea we lost both Riders it's the latest in a series of aggressive whale attacks off the coast of Spain going back to 2020. three of them like this Swiss luxury sailboat sinking completely after the so-called killer whales rammed into them beneath the surface last month Greg Blackburn had to hold out for an hour as a pot of whales targeted his boat the power of at least creatures possess it's just it's incredible you could see on video when older whale and a calf taking turns slamming the hole this looks like something we see in killer whales where one individual started doing it and then has taught other whales to do the same thing and we don't really know exactly why they're doing it much closer to home we're seeing other unusual behavior from a pot of orcas four of them spotted off the coast of Nantucket so wherever we see whales they're probably looking for food somewhere that drives a lot of their movements last year for instance there were similar sightings around this time of year of killer whales offshore in New England as well so it could be around this time of year that they happen to be passing through and those researchers say they've been watching this section of the Atlantic doing aerial surveys kind of like this they've been watching it for a decade and as they said they've never seen orcas in this section of the ocean although they they doubt actually that they're ever going to see them there again but at this point given the recent headlines involving Wales it may be time to start expecting the unexpected guys we agree never say never right all right thank you so much Trevor well hey there GMA fans Robin Roberts here thanks for checking out our YouTube channel lots of great stuff here so go on click the Subscribe button right over right over here to get more of Awesome videos and content from GMA every day anytime we thank you for watching and we'll see you in the morning on GMA
