hello friend welcome to zuzikorn's terraria ammo series where i go through the different types of ammunition in terraria 1.4 today in our first installment we'll be covering arrows for archers so that means how to get them how good or bad they are and what i recommend using but of course what i think is horrible might not be horrible to you so the choice ultimately lies with you i may also overlook things so feel free to correct me down in the comments i'm zuzukarn and i aim to entertain you encourage you and offer you a place to call home so subscribe now and join the zusukorn family let's begin arrows are a type of ammunition used by those who favor bows this could be from basic bows like the wooden one to special bows like the even tight or even end game bows like the phantasm bows require arrows for you to fire off your projectiles so if you don't have any in your inventory nothing happens if you try to use the bow with that the very first arrow you probably will come across is the basic wooden one wooden arrows have low damage but are extremely accessible and easily created even right off the bat when you start your terraria journey these can be crafted from wood and stone at a workbench and one wood and one stone will produce 25 wooden arrows they can also be found in chests all around the world purchased from the merchant for 5 copper coins each and even can be found by breaking pots and other breakables gathered randomly here and there in all honesty wooden arrows are nothing but a stepping stone or something you use temporarily while you get your hands on better arrows for example just by combining wooden arrows with torches gives you flaming arrows which have slightly higher damage and has a chance to light enemies on fire but whether you necessarily want to use flaming arrows is another matter which i'll cover later but for now all you need to know is that wooden arrows are the most basic arrow there is however there are times that you want to use wooden arrows this applies mostly to bows which transform wooden arrows into special projectiles here's a simple example with the molten fury by default this bow transforms wooden arrows into flaming ones so you can see it as a free arrow upgrade if you want but if i use a different arrow say a holy or clarify arrow then this property is removed i mean for good reason of course you wouldn't want your expensive arrows to get downgraded do you but in this sense the molson fury just becomes a normal bow with no special properties we can see this more evidently with a bow like the even tide the even tide transform wooden arrows into this wonderful spectrum of rainbow beams probably the main attraction of the even tide but if you use a different type of arrow you just don't get the same thing you only get just one rainbow pulse along with a strafe of whatever arrows you've been using so if you're using special bows like this you should use wooden arrows for the full effect in conclusion wooden arrows are the most basic ones out there and you almost never want to use them if possible unless you're using a bow that transforms them into special projectiles other than that the wooden arrows are also the basic crafting material for better arrows so you'll honestly be making or buying lots of them throughout your journey now that we've got wooden arrows out of the way let's move on to flaming arrows like i mentioned you can make these by combining wooden ones with torches and they deal a little more damage with a chance to light enemies on fire however i don't recommend using more flaming arrows than necessary when you can make flaming arrows you can also make frostburn arrows frostburn arrows are made by combining wooden arrows with ice torches which require ice blocks to craft these are super easy to get early on and are better than flaming arrows in almost every way frostburn arrows are better in terms of damage velocity and inflict the frostburn debuff instead which does the same thing as fire but better only 31 enemies in the game are immune to this debuff which is almost nothing really early on frostburn arrows are the go-to early game ammo for most cases and it's something you should definitely pick up over the flaming arrows so to summarize get frostburn arrows and not flaming arrows flaming ones are only kind of useful super early before you mind some ice blocks but other than that don't even bother next we have our early piercing arrows the unholy arrow and the jester arrow unholy arrows are dropped by the eye of cthulhu in corruption world but they can also be purchased in both crimson and corruption worlds from the arms dealer at night once the eater or brain are defeated these are arrows that pierce up to 5 enemies and have a higher base damage compared to the frostburn ones objectively speaking however frostbin arrows may do more overall damage due to the debuff but that's not why we're thinking of using unholy arrows as mentioned these piers up to 5 enemies which really helps when you're mobbed this means that these arrows are helpful for blood moons or the goblin invasion and they are somewhat useful for the eater or brain as well additionally you can also craft these using worm teeth and wooden arrows but i wouldn't recommend it but should you use unholy arrows honestly no or let me rephrase that if you have some feel free to use them but don't bother trying to get more jester arrows are weaker than unholy arrows by a small bit but peers indefinitely although gesture arrows disappear after travelling a set distance they are not affected by gravity which means that they travel in a straight line so less aiming work for you the only issue here is that they're somewhat difficult to craft i say difficult but it's not really that hard in terraria 1.4 just the arrows require fallen stars to craft which might sound pretty scarce however with the addition of the meteor shower and the increase of the fallen star spawn rates in the 1.4 update you get quite a bit every night now if you actually bother going to explore and collect them i honestly recommend the just the arrows because they are super useful for invasions and the brain of cthulhu or eater of worlds these bosses have many body parts and the infinite piercing helps a great deal i do have to let you know that every enemy or part pierced reduces the damage dealt by 10 percent while the unholy arrows have this same property but only have their damage reduced by 5 overall though i think just the arrows are just better so to recap use just the arrows and not unholy arrows we also have the bone arrows which are bought from the skeleton merchant for 15 copper occasionally during some moon phases at least these are quite mediocre and can pierce one enemy they can be obtained really early which might be somewhat useful before you get gesture arrows but that's about all i have to say about them they are not that good and i personally wouldn't bother then we have the last arrow for pretty hard mode the hellfire arrows i'll say it right now i think these arrows are horrible they do have certain niche users but they're so annoying to use in most cases hellfire arrows can be found in shadow chests or pots in the underworld or crafted using wooden arrows and hailstone bars the demolitionist also sells them in hard mode after the wall of flesh is defeated the main attraction of these arrows is that they create a small explosion just like a grenade but luckily they don't deal damage to us however the thing i dislike about the explosions is that the enemies get knocked back and buy quite a great deal actually and it makes it really difficult to shoot them multiple times it might be just me but this just completely ruins it these arrows are quite useful for bunched up enemies or worm-like enemies where the explosions can deal damage to multiple segments but as a whole i don't think they are very useful or feasible in most cases so i just can't recommend them but if you think i'm missing out on something do let me know in the comments with the pre-hard mode arrows covered we can finally move on to hard mode arrows which are where things get pretty spicy starting off our hard mode list we have the holy arrows one of the best arrows in the game it did get a couple of much needed nerfs but it's still in a very good spot holy arrows are crafted at the mithril or oriqualcum anvil using wooden arrows 3 pixie dust and 1 unicorn horn pixie dust is simple enough and obtained pretty easily from pixies in the hollowed unicorn horns on the other hand are a little more annoying to get since the unicorns are not very common but to make up for this rarity one unicorn horn nets you 200 holy arrows at once so it's not so bad these arrows summon falling stars to fall onto the enemy dealing even more damage each arrow summons two stars which might sound a little lame but hard mode bows tend to fire multiple arrows per shot this is illustrated best using the daedalus storm bow which summons the arrows from above the daedalus storm bow holy arrow combo is essentially just damage from the sky and i will admit that the combo isn't what it used to be but it's still great for taking down the destroyer holy arrows also synergizes really well with the phantasm or the tsunami bow which just causes lots and lots of stars to fall so just use holy arrows they're great not as strong as they were before but it's still a really solid choice next we have the cursed and icore arrows cursed arrows are made with wooden arrows and cursed flames from the underground corruption and inflicts the cursed flame debuff this arrow has high damage and the debuff is a much stronger version of the frostburn one this is a really solid early hard mode arrow that's really worth using we also have the icor arrow which is also a high damaging arrow comparable to the cursed arrow icor ones are crafted using wooden arrows and i call from the underground crimson this arrow inflicts the i-core debuff which reduces the defense of enemies this debuff is one of the best in the game and it really improves your overall damage output both the icor and custeros are solid contenders and are worth using well into hard mode but just a quick tip here you might think that having a corruption well means that you can't get icor arrows and well vice versa but actually you can in terraria 1.4 all you need to do is create a graveyard biome with the dry it by placing down a couple of gravestones this allows you to buy seeds from the opposite wall evil in hard mode so yes you can just buy a couple of these spread them underground then you have access to both icor and cursed flames regardless of which world evil you have super great change really alternatively the dried also sells them during the blood moon next on our list we have the glorified arrows clarified arrows are made from clarified bars which is a post mag boss ore found in the jungle clarified arrows are really high damaging as well and can bounce these arrows smart bounce meaning that if there's an enemy nearby it will automatically fly towards them it's also one of the fastest arrows in the game to add on they also pierce one enemy which makes it a nice general use arrow using these arrows with something like the tsunami bow is pretty good the balancing and smart targeting makes it excellent to use with the daedalus tombow as well however as a whole these are very expensive to craft and are not huge upgrades compared to the cursed or ico arrows i will admit that glorified arrows are really fun to use and are pretty strong but i would personally stick with i call or cursed ones and only use my glorified for other things but if you have some spare glorified and want to use these arrows go ahead they're not bad we're almost reaching the end of the list now after beating plantera we now have access to venom arrows these are crafted using wooden arrows and venom files which can be bought from the witch doctor after beating plantera these are the highest damaging arrows in the whole game it has the highest base damage of all the arrows and the venom debuff is some serious damage over time as well honestly once i have access to these i just use them all the time for everything they are really simple to craft and with a tsunami they are absolutely devastating i highly recommend venom arrows and i personally also use these against the moonlord for its pure damage alone that might not be the best idea but it's what i do so really solid arrow worth using before we talk about the strongest arrow i just want to quickly cover the endless quiver this can be crafted by combining 4 stacks of 999 wooden arrows at a crystal ball and it essentially gives you unlimited wooden arrows i love the endless quiver it's just so great to not have to worry about consuming and restocking arrows of course i don't recommend using it for boss fights but it's nice to have when you're exploring and killing random jungle bets or something also remember those special bows like the even tide the endless quiver basically gives you unlimited special ammo for these bows so you can just use them anyhow willingly and don't have to worry about anything melee but yep the endless quiver is a great quality of life ammo to have and it's highly recommended lastly we have the luminite arrow these are made from luminite bars at an ancient manipulator after beating the moonlord being the only arrow obtainable after beating the game obviously it's one of the best if not the best arrow in the game these have high base damage and summon an additional laser-like projectile afterwards although the venom arrow has higher base damage this additional bolt of energy more than makes up for it it also hits up to 4 enemies and is truly the strongest arrow in the game combined with a phantasm bow which also creates spectral arrows you're really dishing out a crazy amount of dps potentially making you the highest damaging class in the game there's really not much more to say about luminite arrows should you use them of course there's no contest well that's all the arrows in the game for terraria 1.4 i hope the video has been informational allowing you to know which arrows to use and which to just well throw in the trash maybe hopefully you'll be able to become the strongest archer terraria has ever seen if you enjoyed the video make sure to subscribe and hit the bell icon too for more terrera guides and other stuff do
