TDW 1776 - A Day In The Real Mayberry

welcome everyone Adam the whoo here coming to you from Mount Airy just a little spot a little blip on the North Carolina map but this my friends is the stomping grounds of the one and only mr. Andy Griffith you may have seen the television show you and multi thousands of others who have seen the most popular syndicated one of the greatest television shows of all time and even though the map states this is the name folks around here call it Mayberry it's my second channel daily vlog channel it is it gave me everyone gets in the spirit here it's pretty fantastic actually check out the water tower look what's right smack dab in the middle of it that's pretty cool like not in December of 2011 my mom and I were up in this area for the holidays we have a family that lives a few hours away I only had a couple hours of spare so I drove over I was in town for a very short time I didn't get to see everything I'm going to rectify that today I'm a nip it nip it in the bud and speak of the devil there comes old barn himself how you doing mr. fight this is it where the idea was generated was formulated in his mind he took this exact Street and ran with it the rest mr. Walt had Marceline Andy had Mount Airy of course her speculation on both points but it's fun to see the little tidbits and hints and put the clues together right he only needed that one bullet I don't think you ever fire though did anyone think you ever fired that one bullet but he only needed one I picked myself up a coffee and they have a map in here on the location of all the visitors looks like most people are from the East Coast for sure not a lot of West Coasters Saban there's a photo Don himself signing this exact picture yeah well I got mr. Firman not only is this like stepping back in time it's also like putting yourself back in a piece of television history here's the Darwin's truck oh wow courthouse they have the courthouse here also and look at the front door wonderful Salman oh my gosh this is blowing my mind right now a recreation of the sheriff's office and jail cells with not expecting this this is a mind blown it's all some episodes so much I got that tour was amazing the coolest thing was all the street signs located here in Mount Airy he mentioned in the show itself pretty fascinating this is little Ben he found me I don't know how many found me how'd you guys how'd you guys know I was in town when he said you is in whistle that's why we know so you used to Columbo like research skills we was in the middle Ian if you saw the RV play I was halfway through my sandwich in Katie was like he's probably a millinery right now let's go let's go you guessed right I like your shirt see I love it say a lot now I'm gonna check out the museum right here at the Playhouse these are two of the original keys used for the jail cell that was actually screen used in every episode of the show and check this out here's Otis sure this is the actual salt and pepper suit that Barney would wear on his dates with Selma loo that is absolutely incredible right there it's divided into sections this particular section is currently being remodeled but they have moved some of the props to the front window these were all used on the show the gavel you see here on the left was used in nearly every episode when he's sitting at a desk and the candlestick phone was used in the last five seasons and that's pretty awesome this was Don Knotts chair when he left the show after five years the producers took the chair it had it bronzed then they had the cast and crew's signing the back Rock Bergen hey more represent the cross streets used in the last black-and-white episode starring Jerry Van Dyke and just a word of warning this particular cutouts do not look too deeply into his eyes you might end up hypnotized over here we have goobers original hat he cut the holes in this himself and had it bronzed and dedicated it to the museum that's the one he warned his signature cap I should also mention that that is the original desk he can barely see it with the glare on the window and these are the original doors the blue doors right back there pretty freakin cool right and they even have a little motorcycle sidecar property of the sheriff that door won't stay closed I do love me some old theaters this one I actually get to go inside you can see how the screen pulls down for movies and they use the stage for bluegrass music but it still has that old-school nostalgic feel to it doesn't it even the checkerboard fors popcorn an old school snack bar I like it and this was actually where a very unknown Andy Griffith movie premiered a face in the crowd not a lot of people have seen that one and it premiered right inside there and there he is up on that very stage further microphone if you ever want to see the darker side of his acting abilities check that movie out it's pretty good this is also a pretty notable place the snappy lunch he was said to come in here many times and grab himself a hot dog you need a tasty meal however they close very early and I missed the boat on this one they're closed for the day once one went ringing the next two Opie's candy store is Floyd barber shop which i think is still open it was said but Andy himself got his hair cut in there quite a few times wouldn't it be cool if I got my hair cut inside the same barber shop that he did why not you know what check it I'm gonna get my hair cut in the same barber shops as AMD death you know you only live one why not why not do it embrace the moment embrace it and now for the grand reveal chuckle come come come come come come looks good right they have a Facebook page also they're going to put my picture on I'll post it on my facebook to the daily will in Facebook you see the pictures they took of me sitting in the Barkley's have six barber chairs and it used to go all the way back they enclose it now there's just two of the original old school or I wonder did he sit in the same barber chair I did I have to say that hairstyle looks pretty darn good on you sir the next location is located about 10 to 15 miles outside of town a very pivotal point and spot mentioned multiple times in the show we are now entering the city limits of Pilot Mountain mount pilot Pilot Mountain coincidence you be the judge I have to wonder how many times this place was mentioned on the show it was considered to be the next town over from Mayberry and very similar downtown in Pilot Mountain is the next town over from Mount Airy you do the math on it just makes sense and a few miles straight up on the outskirts of town is what the town was named after there is a real peak at Pilot Mountain if you are afraid of heights the rest of this video might not be for you here it is look at that holy cow this is up here the real-life Pilot Mountain whoa whatever you do sure is beautiful you stay up here for a long time just do a little contemplating and thinking very windy though normally in the description underneath every day's vlog I cook where I was yesterday as well as one year ago two years ago three years ago and four years ago today I'm going to mix it up a little bit and put some differently I'm going to put a link to the andy griffith movie face in the crowd that maybe you haven't seen if it's a trailer leaked someone uploaded up on youtube as well as when I visited the intro to The Andy Griffith Show when Oakley gets the rock across a lot of that statement beginning to the show that's a California I did an unedited walk there many years ago as well as what I visited this neck of the woods five and a half years ago in December of 2011 I covered way more
