Syme Hut

3 hours 30 as you have seen by the title I'm heading up to Hut are here on Mount tanaki um supposed to be 3 and 1/2 hours and I've just left the car park at 11: so it should be about 2 2:30 by the time I'm up there hi I can't tell if all these stair are making it easier because they sure do we you out looks like we might have hit the tree line this is getting ridiculous there are so many stairs [Music] right the [Music] view Capo Lodge that is private it is just around there but I might check it out on the way down um I'll carry on up to pham's [Music] Peak definitely got lucky with the Wither [Music] [Music] it's a pretty Co Bo well [Music] [Music] [Music] we're that the stairs end [Music] this is starting to remind me of rope oh this is very loose underfoot your feet kind of slide backwards a lot lost the view now catching up to some people ahead of me h of iice [Applause] so that's F's Peak got the Hut and and over here would be a good view of Mount tanaki if the clouds weren't in the way I'm pretty much all set up at um simart I'm just going to head over to the top of feam peak where it's 2,000 M High there's still a lot of mosses and small plants growing here we are top of fathoms Peak 1,966 M there's same Hut tanaki is that way and uh the awesome view I had earlier is gone unfortunately and there it is Mount tanaki summit's just up there clouds are clearing a little bit I hope they clear fully it's all just glass shards it's all to sice that'ss are already melting [Music] [Music] off this is inside SE Hut this first room where your water tank is you can hang wet clothes you've got another door here which you can close at night keep some warmth in but um of course all the bags are all around we've got a table big old bench and uh when the clouds are away you've got one pretty good view got candle holders uh there was another window behind that but that's being boarded up from the inside and uh you've got 10 mattresses five on the bottom and five up top yeah there's the top platform the back part of the Hut gets blasted with ice that's all melted and falling off the weather has uh cleared up a bit Yeah there's Mount tanaki still a few clouds around you can't actually see much of the ground um but that's cool that the viewers finally opened up [Music] [Music] [Music] it is something like 2° C [Music] it's just amazing quite cold but now that the uh clouds are pretty much cleared it's uh quite spectacular can even see the coast bending back around to the north got Strat got r p that way got hard Wier and uh yeah I think I'm going to go get dinner sorted now [Music] [Music] Sun's gone now temperatures dropped quite quite a bit um but I have Ethan and um yeah I'm just getting ready for the night uh we're just warming up inside the hut now [Music] [Music] Sun's a few minutes from rising and it certainly is well below freezing um the sun should hit the mountain shortly going up to the top of fathoms ground's certainly Frozen in a few parts like that it's all [Applause] nice can see the uh round Forest border of the national park w wow this same Hut sun is above the Horizon now that is amazing leaving Sim Hut now I don't know quite what the time is cuz my phone's gone flat somewhere between 7 and 7:30 yeah what a day it is better than yesterday I don't think we're going to get any clouds on the way down and um the GoPro is on about 10% charge so it's probably going to be quite the quick Montage on the way down if you get good weather on a clear day like this and you can see the mountain and you get you know the sunrise and sunset it's definitely worth the probably 2,000 stairs up here plus the scree slope cuz uh not many places do you get a view like this here comes the fun scree section with the ground being frozen and uh your feet don't really dig into all the loose Rock so uh you can slip a bit easier [Music] [Laughter] [Music]
