"Aren't you going to review the Galaxy S24 Ultra? You are the too little too late." Already? "Can you crush your competitors?" Listen and persevere for your tech knowledge! Okay! Hello, everybody! It's ZUYONI! It's already been almost 3 months since I've used the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Recently, I uploaded a video on the updates coming to Galaxy. After watching that video, many people said, "Why did we buy the 24, then?" "If the 23 is so good?" My personal opinion, as I used both devices is that the user satisfaction of Galaxy S24 Ultra compared to its previous model is sooo much better! If you look at my channel, I reviewed the Ultra series from the Galaxy Note up until now. The Ultra line-up is so big and heavy that after the reviews I wouldn't daily drive them. This is still big and heavy but I've been consistently daily driving this phone. So, I knew I had to make a review on my thoughts on using it daily for 2 months. So, today, I'm going to share everything from what I liked to what I disliked about the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Let's go! To be honest, I was going to daily drive the Plus model amongst the 24 series. Because for me, the weight and size is the most important criteria in picking my daily driver. So, usually, I pick between the base or the plus models. But the base models for this series is nerfed significantly that I didn't even think to daily drive it. I daily drove the base model amongst the 23 series but was thinking this time, "I'll choose between the Plus or the Ultra." The Plus model has merits supporting QHD+ and is lighter so, I was going to go with it. But when actually using these I loved the Ultra's cameras. Also, the reflection is reduced significantly compared to the previous model and I felt that the big disadvantage of big weight and size could be overlooked. So, what I ended up doing is using this without a case. When people see that I used this without a case they all equally ask me "Is it okay to use it without a case?" I mean, for me buying smartphones and reviewing them is my job. So, compared to ordinary users I have the opportunity to use many diverse smartphones. But even for me! Every time I buy one of those smartphones it makes me tremble. The price isn't something like a couple hundred thousand won but is in the millions, at least. Especially, the Ultra models are really expensive so, even for me, I can't use them mindlessly. But also, I am the type to really put my phones through a lot. I drop them easily. So, I did worry, "What if my phone is a rag by the time of the review?" But this is where I like the Ultra. The durability was amazing. I've dropped it on stone islands on a vacation to Japan. And when if slips from my hand it just flies off. I've repeatedly dropped them to that level once or twice every week but if you take a look, there's no crack in the front or behind of the phone. If you look very closely, there are very light scratches in the corner but I swear I've never put a case on, not even once. If you just look at it like this it doesn't look like it's been dropped a lot. On top of that, if I make a comparison to the previous model this is more round and this one is more flat. It may not look like much of a difference to the eye but when you grab it you can feel the hand firmly settle in. Something like that. Also, since the previous model has edge display and the sides have a smooth, glossy finish it's more slippery when you hold it. In the case of the S24 Ultra the sides are also matte and frictional making it easier to grab and less slippery. So, after using it for 2 months the reasons for being able to overlook the weight and size and daily drive this phone is durability that allowed me to not be scared of using it without a case and the firm grip it presented with its materials, design and just the overall package. Also, the S24 Ultra across products from other brands or previous models gave me the most satisfaction in the anti-reflection qualities of the display. I remember this product being unveiled at the media event. But back then, the highlight of the event were the new AI features of the Galaxy. They were going to have on-device AI. So, they primarily showcased AI features everywhere. That was very impressive but I was looking at these models side by side and the reflections were so different. Oh, wait a minute. I was at the event, looking at them side by side like this Can you see it, even this moment? The reflections are completely different. Compared to the S24 Ultra the previous model shows my face so well, almost like a mirror. You all have that experience where you are watching videos of your favorite idol like this and as soon as it's over you see yourself going like this. Everyone has done that, right? We are so used to those tragedies but thanks to the reduction in reflections your face becomes blurry and less damage is done. The supplier of Galaxy's front panel glasses is Corning and they always had their emphasis on the durability of the glass. But the glass on the Ultra series this year is a product called "Gorilla Armor" which was made to reduce reflections significantly as well. Corning, to reduce reflections made the glass panels absorb some light and disperse the rest to achieve their goal. But regardless of that they coated the panels with multiple layers. And since Gorilla Armor has improved scratch resistance many people use the display without a screen protector. But even so, you know what we do. What do you do the moment you get a new phone? We put on a screen protector. Then what's the use in reducing reflections? You know the moment the screen protector is on it becomes a mirror again. At first, even for me, I was wondering what kind of screen protector to use so, I bought and tried out many of them but I was upset every time I put one on. Because the reason I chose this phone was for the anti-reflective screen but as soon as the screen protector was on it turned right back into a mirror, which annoyed me. So, I was a screen protector nomad, trying this and that and the one I liked in the end is called "AR Screen Protector" by Samsung themselves and I used that. But since it was still just a screen protector, I had to change it frequently. So, for me, like I told you before I take my phone to the extremes which wore them out within months. So, I'm using it without one now. But having tried everything there wasn't one that was better than this. Of course, there might be a product out there that I don't know about. And on this Samsung AR Screen Protector I would like to review something I hope they improve. I was taken aback at first because it didn't have alcohol wipes! Why doesn't it have alcohol wipes? Since I personally had tissues for wiping down electronics I used those instead but this one only provided stickers to remove dust. I bought a new one just to show you guys. It's a flat display this time, not an edge display. Even though it's from Samsung, when you put it on it leaves about 2.5mm at the edges. So, when you actually use the phone with the screen protector on you feel the edges like this here. And you know the times when you go off the edges while using the S pen? You feel it, almost like stairs. Since it's a flat display now I think it'd be okay for them to lengthen the film. I talked only about anti-reflection but it's not just about the reflections. The max brightness is also very high. 2600 nits of peak brightness. Of course, normally, it's on par with the previous model. So, if you look at them side by side, it's "the same" but if you go somewhere brighter or outside and exposed to direct sunlight that's when it cranks the max brightness up. So, when you are using it outside you can perceive improved visibility. Of course, I haven't gone through summer with this phone so it's too early to say but visibility of this display is one reason I won't use another smartphone. And display flickering has been improved. Finally, S24 Ultra has 480Hz PWM. Many people might not know what improved flickering means. It means less strain on the eyes. But there were still some things unsatisfactory about the display. I personally did not have this discomfort while using my phone but there was the mura effect display issue. The mura effect is when you are in a dark environment on low brightness the screen looks like it's divided into 3 sections, has stripes or looks like damp traditional Korean paper, spotted all over. I checked the responses from the display coordinator and in the response they are saying, "it's a fundamental issue of LTPO." The response was something like, "It's a chronic LTPO issue." The Ultra felt so well-made, so experiencing screen burn-in was disappointing. So in this regard, I hope Samsung can find ways to improve in hardware as well. If you frequently use your phone in low light, test it right after getting the device. If it's serious, visit a service center. Let’s talk about what I liked about the design. First, the titanium body finish was excellent. I felt it was even better than the iPhone’s. Compared to the previous model, it feels much better in hand. What I really liked this time is the completely flat display. Before, it was neither fully edge nor flat, unable to let go of the edge design. Of course, the edge display showcased Samsung's mobile tech prowess and certainly had fans. But it had its inconveniences, so opinions were divided. This time, with a fully flat display, the curved edges are completely gone. In fact, with previous edge displays, those curved ends felt wasted. And with a case on, the case sat higher than the flat display edges. So it felt awkward and restrictive, pushing inwards. But now being fully flat, typing is more comfortable. And it feels more stable, secure in hand, which is nice. So in materials and build, it feels far more premium, refined than before. The speaker design at the bottom is also different. Before, there were holes, but this linear slit redesign is quite smart. The S Pen design used to stick out a bit. Now, it’s flat, which is better. It looks good from all angles, feels good to touch. However, the Ultra still has drawbacks. They are the size and weight. It’s part of the Ultra line’s identity but also an unavoidable downside. I always wonder, "Does it need to be this big?" "Can’t we enjoy it at a slightly smaller size?" Why not make it a bit smaller? Release an Ultra Mini or a smaller Ultra version would be nice. The new Galaxy Ultra is even heavier than the iPhone Pro Max. When I say that, you might think, "It must be really heavy." But the thing is, the Ultra has always been heavy. But as the iPhone gets lighter, the Ultra feels relatively heavier. Of course it'll feel that stress. Everyone has weight stress, don't they? But how long will you stay this heavy? For me, the Ultra's battery life felt exceptionally long. So I really liked that aspect. Spec-wise, it's the same 5,000mAh as before. But with the new chipset, various structural changes, a larger vapor chamber for better heat management, and an improved display, the battery life has improved, I suppose. I used the Ultra as my main phone while traveling. Even on long days out, I didn’t need to charge it mid-day. From morning to late night, it rarely ran out of battery. Here’s my record of using it all day a few days ago. Even after 14 hours and 30 minutes of use, there was still 9% battery left. That remaining 9% would last another 2 hours and 39 minutes. I got my nails done that day. Nice, right? The nails took about an hour and a half. I watched YouTube videos the whole time. And I used KakaoTalk all day as well, along with Instagram, Notion, Slack, and even Always On Display. So battery life felt exceptionally long. And with fast charging speeds, I had no battery complaints on this phone. Now, let’s talk about the camera’s pros and cons. Honestly, I now prefer it over the iPhone camera. The photos especially felt noticeably better than the previous model. I covered this in detail in a previous video. If curious about the Ultra camera comparison, check the linked video above. Previously, Galaxy colors were too vivid and overdone, while iPhone's colors were... That iPhones have unique vibes, but now I like Galaxies more, even in terms of the color palette of the photos. This is the photo I took when I had my hair bleached and dyed. If you look at the photo the iPhone took it looks more dull and ocher than the Galaxy, right? The real color of my hair back then was closer to the Galaxy. It was more of a coral tangerine color as you see here but the photo from the iPhone felt darker and bland than reality. When I saw the results, I went Like that. Let's look at the next picture. Do you see the light reflected at the edge of the cup? The ability to capture and express light is amazing. I'll show you portrait photography this time. When you are taking portrait photography, the Galaxy takes livelier pictures. How should I say this, the iPhone pictures look more cold to the touch? It feels flat and more pale. Galaxy perfectly captures the vibe of the sunlight reflecting off the hair. The blonde hair is shining. Galaxy is great at capturing the brilliance and the brightness of the scene. So, that's what I liked about it. But there were some shortcomings. If you look at the next picture there is a yellow neon sign on the front of the building. The Galaxy greatly emphasized the yellow color making the whole photo more yellow. Compared to this, the iPhone has compressed the colors. If you think of it as a graph the photos from the iPhone are very flat whereas Galaxy captures livelier photos. So, now, wouldn't it be okay to say Galaxy has iPhones beat in taking photos? In expressing light and capturing liveliness Galaxy is amazing. Also, let's take a look at videos. I really liked the videos. The Galaxy did well to reduce shaking during taking videos. If you look here, you might think, "Is this on some sort of super steady mode?" That's how stabilized it is. I took this video while walking around. Obviously, it isn't as good as a gimbal camera but is close to that level of steadiness. So, you what this is good for? You know how people go to concerts and take videos? I think even if you were in a stadium like the Gocheok Sky Dome you can take pictures like homepage master hommas. You shouldn't use 100x or 10x zoom camera when you are taking a video but use 5x zoom camera for the best results. This is the video I took during the curtain call of my favorite musical, "Rent" the one time when they allowed the audience to film. The first few seconds of the video tell you where I was sitting, but if you zoom in you can see that you can film like you would with a professional camera. It is really stable. So, I took videos of them one by one, almost like close-up shots. Let's enjoy the video. And as you know, AI features are heavily deployed this year. I have talked with them in previous videos so please refer to the video thumbnail shown now. A variety of features were available which was really convenient. The feature I used the most was recording and summarizing conversations during meetings. The recordings were summarized and instantly turned into text so it was convenient to check when I was wondering "What did I talk about then?" And this recording feature is all done on-device. You don't have to upload it to the cloud which was relieving in terms of privacy. The second feature I used the most was "Circle to Search." It would be when I am watching a video or looking at photos on places like Instagram and wondering, "What brand is this product?" If you have a product you are curious about on a video you press here and circle it, then you can find the product you are looking for. This is a feature that you can't find on other phones. If you wanted to do it on an iPhone you have to screen-grab it, then go into Google Chrome click on "search by image," then upload the file to search. But this does it in one go. And in cases of translations it has on-device translation feature. So, even if you don't have internet roaming on during vacation or in an area where there is no internet connection you can use the translation feature with ease. But, in case of live translations for calls it needs to listen and then translate which affected the speed. There was this one time I held this phone out with live translate on to someone for an explanation but that person talked for a long time. Because of the length of the speech the phone only understood half of it. There was a time where I couldn't understand half of the information, so I thought I needed to think more about how to apply it to the other person so that they can use it more comfortably when actually using it. And now, when interpreting, you have to download language packs one by one. This is because the interpretation is done on-device, but this language pack is about 500MB per language. So, when you want to use various languages, it is somewhat unavoidable that it takes up a lot of space, but it is also disappointing. To briefly talk about other good and bad points, first of all, fingerprint recognition has become really fast. It opens when you touch it. Did you just see it? Even if the screen is turned off, it opens immediately by simply pressing your hand on this location. Face ID sometimes makes an error if my face is slightly swollen, wearing a mask, or wearing glasses. But it just opens right away. It's very convenient. And there were some disappointing reactions regarding GPS. In my case, since I don't drive at all, I don't think I've ever had much experience with GPS working when just walking down the street and finding directions So, I haven't felt this, but I still think it would be nice to see improvement. And actually, the vibration is still very weak now. I actually set the phone to the maximum vibration. Take a look. Please call me. Wait, the do not disturb. Ah, wait a minute. Please call me again. This is the maximum vibration. It's nice that it's soft, but it's too weak. So, I'll tell you one useful tip. If you search for vibration in the settings window and go into the vibration intensity, you can see that it plays a vibration sound when you receive a call. If you set this up, with the speaker I just hear "Mmm!" So, it makes me more aware that there is a phone call. Take a listen and see the difference. It's much louder, right? Isn't it really funny? Wouldn't it be better to just change the module to vibration? Is it expensive to change the vibration module? Anyway, we can make some improvements in this way. And let's talk about the speaker. The design is sensible, but the location... Most of the time, when you watch a video, you hold it like this and then turn it to landscape mode and use it like this. I don't think anyone holds their phone like this. You don't hold it like this. But when I hold it like this, I block it with my hand, and it feels like my hand is itching and the sound is a bit muffled, which is a bit disappointing. Was it really necessary to specify the location here? Was it something they shouldn't have done here? It would have been much more comfortable if it had just been changed like this, but this is a bit disappointing. Well, today, I shared my two-month review of the Galaxy S24 Ultra, which I used for two months, briefly returned to the iPhone, and then returned to my main phone. If I were to sum it up in one general review, no matter how I look at it, it is the best Galaxy of all time, but I would sum it up like this, “Those who want to use it should bear the weight.” However, after using it, I really liked the phone, but I still thought that it would be great if I could enjoy this great product in a slightly smaller size and a slightly lighter weight. I know they won't listen if I say this, but wouldn’t it be great if they could make this Ultra little smaller? I'm going to persistently appeal once more like that. In the meantime, I've been uploading several videos related to my S24 and covering them in a variety of ways. If you have any additional questions or anything you would like to see, please leave a comment. I'll see you again in the next video. Bye bye!
