I bought Jackie ding's old S2000 to turn into a nice streetcar but things went off the rails immediately and now I have a fully forged K20 Engine with itvs built to rev to 10 000 RPM but it's still going to be a streetcar with the help of Andy smedugard the support of Valvoline and their lineup of lubricants and fluids and the immense pressure of trying to entertain the internet we're going to make the Valvoline s10k a reality and that long process starts right now good [Music] [Applause] [Music] we're going to start this project with a health inspection of whatever's left of the car and then just start building back from the ground up [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] recording hi Ben what's up do you want it this way you want it this way it doesn't matter either one yeah that one's that one's great that one's great dude what the heck is this wait what what is this uh that's my oh that's my tarmac rally tarmac rally tarmac rally you remember you remember I had to take it down to that car right you took you jumped it oh you didn't know that I didn't know you jumped that 2000. [Laughter] I bought a car you jumped a retroactive refund okay so these how the heck did you find rally suspension for an S2000 I I gave my one ways to Dave from Colgate Factory and they built those are you amazed or no I am amazed yeah I'm amazed that they would do something like that for something that they were only ever gonna sell one pair of to you yeah yeah yeah exactly exactly if you don't need it I'd like your back I don't need it I don't know what you're gonna do with it either but I don't either I probably don't need it either but I put it on the wall I'm standing here at Fortunato located in Richmond Virginia the workplace of my rider die homey Devin Herndon Devin hi Devin has been instrumental in the orchestration of my newest set of suspension from Fortunato the generation a coils for the s2000. yes for Generation eight 510 now is sporting cfd piston which it was doing before but this one is Billet so it is extremely light porting is a little bit different so you have more valve adjustment and what we did a little bit differently for this set because it is double Wishbone is we did a aluminum body all around so it cuts down in weight and helps with any sort of corrosion or whatnot because it's aluminum you have 24 clicks of damping adjustments a little single adjustable shock now we've got hex bolts on like the lower collar yeah that's correct so I'm used to taking a spanner and a hammer and just beating the crap out of it and now I can just loosen that that is correct so now you can just spin it on there and lock it down and you don't need to beat your locking rings I love that what spring rates are we going with here uh we did a 11 kg front and a 10 kg rear perfect car for Street and track use so shiny [Music] while Dakota installed the new Fortune Auto 5 tens he pointed out a modification of the jacket down to the S2000 back while it was being used as a track car metal spherical suspension bushings normally this is just a rubber bushing and in it you can tell how easy it rotates and everything these are all sphericals so that's good that's typically the parts alone like is like a thousand dollars for a whole set of sphericals well Dakota is positive about these mods and typically spherical bushings are viewed as ideal for maintaining a consistent alignment during g-load I think there's a distinct possibility that these suspension arms may be coming out in the future to decrease noise and harshness and help make the S2000 a better street car it is time to install a k [Music] things should be easy we try to assemble everything as much as possible outside the car so that we literally just plop the engine and stuff back in the car plug it in and fire it up yeah go ahead plenty of room I gotta go back just a little bit just a little stop right there look at that right in Andy how hard is the actual putting the engine in part a breeze so far it's going pretty good just trying to be a little extra cautious with itvs up there it's just trying to be extra careful and this might be the most beautiful thing I've ever seen get in there the the engine or the car engine itb's these are set up for a K series and I kind of saw this coming I should have maybe maybe we should order the correct Parts but the throttle cable is just a little short we need this to go into there so we're probably what two inches short and I'm a lot of adjustment we're gonna have to do something here to make this functional it's peeling back some of this outer coating and moving seeing if I can just move this all back recrimp it down and get the correct amount of of linkage I kind of peeled this all back and now it's almost like it was never apart yeah I think that should work I feel like it's going to need to be cracked open a little bit for idle anyways I just don't know how much which that was another thing I was thinking about last night too like idle control you're not going to have any like active idle control it's just whatever the throttle stop is at which is kind of annoying because it's gonna idle really low in stuff when it's cold but it also like when you have a c the AC puts extra drag on the motor so there's nothing to like idle up the engine other than we can use ignition compensation a bit so it'll run a really low ignition value at like at base I don't feel around like zero degrees of ignition advance and then if it needs to idle up we can add you know 20 degrees of ignition in advance and that will that's able to at least fluctuate idle 100 RPM maybe maybe 200 at best right now the only thing setting idle is is you know where this throttle stop is at however much that the itvs are cracked open that's that's your idle this is why itvs are typically found on race cars um hopefully there's like a 255 fuel pump in here we're just pulling this out just to make sure everything is okay I have trust issues with just any project car that shows up here because the last thing you want to do is try to make a bunch of power and you don't have the fuel to support it it's got It's got am 340 in it once we're going to install all this we realized it would be easier for us to go back to the original pump that came in this car which we had one in our ASM junkyard this is just a simple 255 pump which should be plenty for the power that this car is going to make on E85 and 91 because we're going to do Flex Fuel this will make the whole system very simple so it'll be one line that runs from here all the way up to your rail so it'll be only two spots that I could ever leak from and we are running the regulator off of this regulator here and that means simplifying no regulator in the bay keeps the bay nice and clean and simple and there's just no aftermarket parts that can fail this is all OEM so we're good to go foreign [Music] as if itvs weren't cool enough now you can really stay cool with a nice AC unit for your s2000. easy everyone just clicked off the video unsubscribe you guys just lost a bunch of subscribers this is the one part you don't know how to install I've only uninstalled them I haven't really installed them [Music] you need two fans minimum this is your only fan [Music] foreign okay so we are getting very far with the project we just got drive shaft in the brakes are now bled so once this thing is running it'll stop we need to get the fuel line ran for the main feed line that's what we're working on now [Music] all right so these are our AC relocation lines not necessarily needed but it uh it'll keep that clean look these will get routed kind of behind the engine and underneath so you really don't get to see them if you want to reuse the OEM AC line so you have to modify some of the lines so you have to like heat up one line twist it and bend things a little bit these make it a little easier [Music] put a driver's seat in steal the one upstairs I am going to drain up this mystery fuel in the tank could be 85 could be race gas pump gas we have no idea so rather than guessing especially on a fresh Ronnie built motor we are going to just pump it out and put in some known good non-ethanol 91 maybe a little race gas mixed in looks like a nice steady stream [Music] we got the fortune autos on the car now we just need to put the wheels on and we'll be really close to getting this thing started I think most of it's down to maybe buttoning up some of the suspension stuff getting the alignment stuff set at least relatively straight and then we can take it to the dyno and and start playing with it and listen to some ITV music [Music] all right we got what we were waiting for we've got our hail Tech Elite 1500 ECU and our wideband controller pin kit flex fuel kit and our our wiring harness so we can need to do a few modifications to make this fit in this car we have to convert the engine harness to run on hail Tech and uh I have a hard time saying it the normal way now engine harness is set up to run on a K20 ECU so we need to wire into these uh these two pins for the 1500 we're going to pin this direct right to the ECU and uh make it a full true plug and play uh the injectors we're using here are from an Acura RDX it's kind of a common injector a lot of Honda guys use it's a it's an upgrade from the stock K Series injectors which I believe are like 300 CC and on pump gas that might be enough fuel but we're gonna go E85 so we needed a little bit bigger injector uh it's kind of nice to use an oem injector you get OEM type quality so these are four 410 or 440cc I can't remember exactly but kind of a common injector we use from going E85 on an NA type setup I'll probably start changing the ECU connectors I need to make a few changes to the harness I need to convert the injectors these are OEM K series um connectors for an injector we need to switch it to the RDX from there then it's just fitting it in the car and kind of creating a base a base map to get everything started [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] go ahead and change all the fluids in this car with some Valvoline because we have no idea how many miles are on the diff and the trans [Music] [Music] so now we are going to fill the engine with engine oil and obviously this is a totally freshly built engine that has never run ever it has no miles on it so we need to be a little bit conscientious about what engine oil we put in here the big things you're looking for when you're picking a breaking oil are a conventional oil that breaks down a little bit faster than like a synthetic you also want to have high concentration of zinc in the oil because that will help prevent metal on metal contact and damage with stiffer valve springs that we're running so we are going to go with Valvoline VR1 which is what I run on pretty much everything we're just going to run a 10 30 weight VR1 that comes in both conventional and synthetic this is obviously a conventional like I just said very very high in zinc which is kind of vr1's whole thing [Music] foreign [Music] this is the most important one we took [Music] one thing I didn't think about either is the intake air temp sensor typically you'd put that in the intake you know maybe Downstream of the throttle body I'm not sure where to put it here just put it right here we get to tune the comp tables for the intake air temp so it's kind of up to us where we put this and then what we want to do with that information as a tuner so for now I'm just going to zip tie it right here got our hail Tech wide band hooked up [Music] let's see if we can make some noise not giving my hopes up that it's going to be this easy I feel a Feeling a few little wiring things we got to figure out we'll see what kind of issues we run into [Music] all right we're going to crank this engine over try to make sure we can build some oil pressure uh no one wants to start an engine with no lubrication it's only spinning at 140 RPMs it's all this high compression stuff there we go all right so I think it'll start we got the oiling system primed I have a lot of the sensors needed I think to make this thing run ready foreign it's only getting half sink so it's it's seeing the the crank sensor but I'm not seeing anything coming from this cam [Music] oh no our battery's about to die whenever I'm filming an engine swap I've come to expect that things usually won't just fire right up especially when you've got a random engine and an entirely fabricated engine harness things usually require a bit of troubleshooting Andy played with the car Non-Stop and diagnosed but at a certain point we just ran out of battery jump boxes it would have to wait until tomorrow [Music] I spent so much time last night making this basement like I was like oh yeah he's just gonna sit there and I'm like this you're better just fire up right there and just have that smooth Idol okay here goes nothing [Music] that's much better than yesterday it works it's just uh it's not making power above eight I kind of have a theory maybe it's the exhaust header that we're using [Music] [Music] and we're at Starbucks
