Swapping a B20 Engine in ONE Day for Nads' Surprise Honda Civic EG Build... SHHH! (Part 1 of 2)

[Music] i know you were expecting some more donk content but due to the covet 19 lockdowns in la the donk has unfortunately been stuck in paint jail so while you wait for that we give you this what's going on today so there's this guy who works here his name's nads the world's oldest wrestler i like hondas honda oh 8 000 rpm redline i just literally shake it and while some of you may say you hate mads we have nothing but love for the man he works super hard behind the scenes he makes a lot of these shows happen and he's had a bit of a tough year 2020 was a tough year for him as it was for a lot of other people so we figured we were going to do something nice for him he also he's the only one of us yeah that doesn't have a fun stupid car well until right now this is a surprise surprise surprise what the [ __ ] is this i mean he'll be on the internet when he sees it i hope right we're gonna unveil it what if we just unveil it by letting him so anyway this all came about like right before the holidays and nads was talking to ben and i and he was kind of bummed out and just all the idea came together and we were like this is a rad thing to do and then vin and i did what we like to do most which is to jump on craigslist and find cars yo finding a clean eg hatch is tough but we found this one in deep south san diego we drove down there picked this thing up this dude he watches all of us get all of our dumb cars and waste all of our time money and effort on them so we were like let's get him a car so he could spend weekends here hating his life but with a cool car when you're bringing something this crappy to buy a car but this is your option for wheels to roll at home on is when you know it's a bad time [Music] let's pull up to this baby yeah we'll give you 2 500 bucks twenty five hundred bucks you want it honestly i really like that color ready too that's what i'm talking about nice color how much is here for me what 200 keep the change oh she's a beaut isn't she [Music] [Applause] dude [Music] this actually might be the most prepared we've been for any project ever because we have an entire palette full of parts we got this we also got this which is a b20 jdm california we went there we always get all of our jdm engines from there so we went there picked up a b20 it's a non-vtec but we're gonna address that later we didn't have a lot of time so they only had b20s and k series in stock but we figured we just did a k series build so we wanted to go like b series og honda yeah we got a b18 trans falcon tires bunch of skunk two parts mishimoto a lot of other stuff so some hot pads all right cool so let's get into it hold that motor soupy and dan think we could pull this motor out in like 15 minutes let's start the clock i don't think it's 15 minutes but we should start the call we should start the car get it hot it just makes it more interesting oh it slides right out or yeah so who knows the most about hondas it looks like it's you soupy 93 eg hatch 1.6 liter non-vtec base model this is a dx right no roof no sunroof which is nice no power steering no series single overhead non-vtec this thing probably makes like 36 horsepower can we put this in the golf cart it ran great so it should go into something these run forever but the interior is really clean on it wrestling here is really clean my favorite part about it and it also smells like newports but i was sort of expecting that's my favorite part about eating is the way the bag opens yo it's so sick oh oh this is an extra head what the oh yeah yeah i forgot about that it's an extra head for the d series yeah yeah but it's a v-tech head through single series yo you see how you see how hurt is secretly a honda guy he just doesn't want to tell you he's not secretly this is my first car he's a honda guy like i'm a volkswagen kid like i was secret about it for years and then i just let it kind of flow out wait that is that a d series or i think a d7 b16 z6 or something like that yeah they call these single crown screamers so let's build and put into something else yeah let's put it in the [Music] [Music] already said that he will trade his gs for this car out we're replacing it anyway right so we might as well take it out soupy always finds the easy job to do the one that's like not under the car did we just cut it no you can't the bolt no the muffler oh yeah just got the exhaust off yeah looks like the afternoon cruise here ron shows up just in time for launch yeah what's in real quick for lunch i don't know we haven't ordered yet but me and her are eating this delicious burrito you finish it already dude you okay i'm great five minutes in already got the saws all out [Music] anyway we're gonna straighten this but we as you can see it's all cracked up here so we're actually gonna make a new little supporting plate and dust this out and it'll be good as new it's gonna look better it'll be better than it ever was see he's already here he's already here to fix it yeah he's come he's come prepped with cardboard tape how is the engine not out of the car yet pretty much detached just motor massive in this ac mount the axes have to come out the boys can't figure out how to get this off the axle that's not coming off so we need a more powerful impact or breaker it's just not breaking no all right yo someone hold the brakes oh my god yo they haul the giant stone oh my god oh wow you see the buckle on the pry bar all right so here's the uh drum brake trailing arm just pulled the whole thing out we got the disc brake trailing arm right here we got some new hawk discs and pads so we're gonna throw that right back in that's gonna be pretty quick vinnie's in here doing some finishing touches because he cares oh man we got some exhaust leaks those weren't leaks bro tina we've been over this patina oh my god did you guys cut that or is that like that no it's like that that's old school burble tune joe hold on on a scale of one to ten how satisfied are you that today is the day you get to just take a car before i don't have to put back together yeah like this is like pinnacle vehicle for you really she's just working on pick a party that's life after hooting come to picker part where everything's cheap brian is an auto dismantler i don't even own the thicker part i'm the guy there who's like hey it's 200 engine day i'll pull the engine for you and i'll give you 50 bucks 10 years later where are they now the motor's almost out so me and her are going to get to doing the fun part which is the unboxing certified skunk tube what do we got here are these coilovers i want to open up some stuff what do we got here we got dude oh we got some choppy boys here got cams for this thing b16 through b18 bfb cam the bfd16 yeah yeah zach so get here and sell us some camps we got some skunk two coil-overs going on over here nice same ones we got on the miata on star card yeah top hats i think the front's got camber plates and stuff those are fronts so that's a rear that's a rear oh wait no get yep uh-huh oh those are good that one that one's good that one's set put that one on the car no alignment just straight on the road well it's already corner balanced corner bounce without it being on the shoulder baby [Applause] my abs aren't hard enough [Laughter] yeah fuel rail okay dude that's gonna be saucy soupy what are you working on getting the uh fletcher flywheel on this thing so i can mount up the [ __ ] what the hell is that clutch masters triple disc what do we got here we got a nice clutch master's flywheel and a clutch in this bad boy should be able to handle more power than that is going to throw do you know what it is it's just like a single it's a single disc it's an fx350 it's one of their stage one stage two style clutches single disc i have an fx400 on my 600 horsepower two so that might be okay i'll be all right so uh fx350 should do the job for 150 horsepower right you're just gonna change clutch and flywheel mount up the trans and then what else i'm waiting for the motor to come on so i can get the harness i need to change out the [Music] injectors [Music] grab a bolt thread it in there and then hammer the bolts up and you can probably get that flush again was that a threaded hole yeah oh boy that's why it's kind of a i'd like to fix that rather than replace it [Music] good teamwork we're almost there bro we're almost there we work really well together get out of here just because you don't have a best friend my best friend's right there [Music] my best friend soupy is getting ready to put the clutch masters in that's a nice what do you think about this i like it i like the spring-loaded action i like the the spring-loaded hub this way it's not like so chattery getting in and out it's got it's got pucks rather than a whole face so you grab a little bit more the best part is when we when uh you buy it it comes as a kit the best part of that is they're balanced already so precision balance baby hell yeah it's basically what you're saying this is perfect for someone yeah like mads who's you know he's a little who's a little older you know i mean you're old too so it's perfect for you too right 32 this year oh wow yeah honestly i know you used just for men in this bad boy could you focus on the club okay yeah yeah so yeah shout out to clutch masters for hopping secrets yeah yeah look at all this gunky throttle body adjustable cam gear for both intake and exhaust valves valve springs i don't think we're going to do the cams right now but we figured they'll be like a gift for nads to be like go do something on your own so you could do chaos let's not miss guidance that's a mean final assembly we give them the vtec head we drive them to a machine shop we give them these parts and then look at this this is always like i love the pride that goes into something look at this box you got this whole box just for this that's a nice uh nice little bit bigger cam cam seal because there's no [ __ ] meat all right i can't forget i have [ __ ] soda canes in my back pocket no tension i'm touching it right now [Music] [Music] [Music] oh my god look at brian and funny dan it's just us yeah like it was a big frenzy to get it out and then everyone's like hey um that's it this is this is why no projects tornado also rescue teams oh my god [Music] back from lunch look at this this guy's stuff is already off this car got a bunch of these parts an entire engine that wasn't a bad morning i wish we worked on every car like this i know all right so it looks like uh alex finished that up so welded a new gear on brand new now they're all full and back from lunch it's time to do everyone's favorite thing wiring soupy what do you got going on here bud well we're using the stock wiring harness and then you just got to move a couple of things couple sensors and that's it nice little upgrade from them drums looks good dude i like this finish this anti-rust finish yeah it's nice pretty clean kind of looks like steel which is also my favorite color these suck there's a lot of these they're torqued when you get one skip you get one skip in that's it that's what you're doing that's like the torque yeah it's nice so you don't even need a torx screwdriver no you just one skip done don't touch it it's good to know good to know that's yeah that's the pro tip of the day okay all right boys i'm kind of impressed in the course of like six hours we've pulled the motor and about to put a motor back in a car wish we could do this for our own builds i know let's just tell each other we're gonna surprise each other and build each other's cars this guy there you go and then you know oh that'll be nice and then we just work on cars together [Music] i can't wait that looks promising i could i could turn it towards you oh all right good lord all right where's the boat that's a really good question oh yeah that's how about that it's the last time we're gonna see these so clean spun two alphas i'm pretty sure this is for the b16 head but it kind of looks like the flanges are the same it might work so we're just gonna try and see what happens let me wait till dad comes just shoving it right into dan's chest i don't know what the [ __ ] i'm doing what is this what is this hold this it's a honda bro am i doing something wrong is it upside down i don't know how this thing works it goes this way yeah i think it goes like that yeah okay that makes a lot more sense [Music] here we are [Music] we're almost ready to fire this thing up and dan reminded us hey does it have oil you might need you might need some oil unless it wants that red light hey you don't want to light oil you got to support the people you got to support the boys that's right k n takes care of us they do we take care of them they make great products we use them because they're great and we actually use them well it also makes carbon fiber parts it's on there ridiculous vehicles like dogs which is the craziest thing i heard in my life a little bit no one's watching that it's okay it's okay we'll fix that in there mike is good got your back micah put your hands like [ __ ] great we started this at about noon it's almost six o'clock he's saying six hours we did a motor swap coilovers disc brake conversion front brake conversion too yeah and you're with a front at least an hour lunch and an hour lunch on top of that plus a few conference calls man that's impressive oh yeah anything i need a hundred hondas are sick i'm sold all right so how what do we need for this thing to be able to drive away axles we've got to hook up the coolant we got we already have the radiator mishimoto gave us a bunch of their silicone hoses also let's get a little piece we're gonna do that right now [Music] no unfortunately we don't have the shift linkage yet so that'll come in monday or tuesday so really just one more day of all of us thrashing on it we could get this driving yeah that's a two-day build all right so next episode you see this thing it should be driving away pretty sure it's yours like i drive this today no like you take this home this is your car
