Survey Files in Revit in 4 easy steps

hi we'll be looking at how to set up a survey file inside revit this method is quick and easy way of doing it you do not have to modify your survey file and this method is also good if you are way into your sketch design stage and you've just recently received your server information you can see i've turned on the internal origin the project base point and the survey point you will notice that they are all sitting on top of each other i'm in the site view so you select that on your project browser and i will go to link cad so we do not encourage that you import cad but you should always link cad so you can you can relink updates if you need to select your feature survey a few things you need to know i know that the feature survey is in meters so up change it to meters instead of the default setting is usually auto detect but we change it to meters the positioning change it to center to center and uncheck orient to view and hit open what you can see is rabbids plays the survey plan in your current view it's also in the right orientation so i'm going to select where your origin point is i'm using the bottom left-hand corner of my site reason being that if you do use the left-hand corner all your dimensions for your grid settings are positive numbers this is important if you are doing any dynamo programming so i'm going to select a survey drawing you will notice that when you import a survey file center to center it is not pinned select the move button and then select the point that i want to move move that corner to the origin point all we have to do now is rotate the survey file again rotate it from the origin point from the on the baseline to there so that is my project north so all i have to do now is i need to go to manage select acquire coordinates and i select the survey you should get a window that tells you you've done it successfully you will notice here the survey point has been moved to the correct position if i do a zoom zoom fit you can set my survey point in its correct position i will turn that off and zoom extents let's zoom in if i now select the project base point you'll notice that all the northing and eastings are actually in the correct the only thing that's not correct is actually the elevation which i'll show you how to do that we're still in the side view all we need to do is just change orientation from project north to true north you now have a side view that is orientated in the correct position if you go back to your level 1 or level 2 view you will notice views also orientated in in the right way that's a quick and easy way of setting up your project you can do this after you've started your sketch design and it should work the good thing about this will save this file if you do receive updates from your surveyor with more information or point cloud surveys and things you can actually bring it in in the same place what i'm going to do now is i'll delete the file and reload it go to link cad and i'll select feature survey again instead of center to center link this using the share coordinates and if i hit make sure that the orange view is also unchecked select ok open and you can see that it's actually dropped back into place and if we go to the side view it's in the correct orientation
