we are your hurricane HQ in the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season it does officially start today so it's forecasted to be one of the most active seasons on record Noah's recent May hurricane Outlook had the highest numbers forecasted by Noah for any May Outlook ever now they anticipate up to 25 name storms 13 hurricanes and seven major hurricanes Noah is also predicting an 85% chance of an above normal season and so unfortunately these numbers while they're not looking good especially when we're considering ing average typically on average we see about 14 name storms per season seven of those become hurricanes and only three become major Category 3 storms or stronger now Colorado State University here's their forecast compared to Noah and you can see that they're pretty similar so well above average and it's important it's in fact imperative that you are heeding these precautions and you are taking it seriously you're preparing yourself right now because we have about 100% of activity remaining or 999 9% of activity remaining since it is June 1st we're just a few hours into June 1st but historically speaking the peak of hurricane season does not occur until mid to late August and Lasting all the way through about mid October certainly the month of of September is a month that many of us watch right along the Gulf Coast and also the kind of southeast coast and even up into the Northeast so again a lot of areas are susceptible and the most vulnerable locations are states like Florida no surprise Louis iiana Southern Louisiana near New Orleans and even North Carolina any of our states that kind of stick out from the rest of the contiguous us well those are areas that we have to watch extremely closely now our water temperatures they are currently typical for about August this is the key talking point right here our sea surface temperatures that was really the main kind of talking point last year and it's continuing to be the main talking point this year mind you last year we had a strong ELO and now we're transitioning to alenia now there is a high probability that that transition to a lenia will occur over our peak of at our Atlantic hurricane season so not the best situation because when we are dealing with a linia that means that there is less wind shear in the atmosphere and that is a better environment so to speak for these storms to really fully develop and sustain themselves so right now we have four tropical waves that we are currently tracking none of which however are expected to develop into anything over the next seven days and that is what we like to see [Music]
