is this Wi-Fi booster scam that is how the email started are giving a lot of messages from people saying hey you've seen this advertised absolutely everywhere and you want to know is it any good and more importantly is it a scam well Wi-Fi boosters aren't a new thing so why is this getting so much attention and then why does the word scam get associated with it that got me super curious I went you find out and well things go too weird let's do this hi guys welcome back to the channel if this is your first time yeah my name is Liran sega where i talk about Wi-Fi and gadget and tech tips and phones and how to if you're into that kind of stuff hit that subscribe button below and let's get on to today's show okay before we start I do have to say that this is my personal opinion based on my experience at the end of the day I'm just presenting it and you're gonna have to make up your own mind so apparently this product was actually developed by someone who worked at an ISP and then they were tired of the ISP ripping off their customers with slow Wi-Fi so he went ahead and designed this product which is supposed to solve all your Wi-Fi issues so the product is called super boost I've also seen it advertised under super boost Wi-Fi super boost Wi-Fi extender Wi-Fi repeater a whole combination of the names thereof so I did what you would do I found one of the ads I clicked on that it took me to the website and well this happened okay so this is the website that you learned on after you click one of the ads and you can see 40% off a little bit of information about what this Wi-Fi booster connection II do solve common problems scroll further down a little bit of more information okay I mean this is not my favorite website but there's nothing wrong with us at all so let's look at testimonials what are people saying keith has said this ok interesting but now how real is this so here's the first thing I do so right-click on Kita's face and then choose search Google for image click on that so now what net comes up I take out whatever it puts afterwards and I type in the word stock and I am essentially looking to see if this is a stock photography or not so now that comes up scroll further down okay so the same image has been used on other websites as well now that just double check that it's the same dude click on the first one now let's go see if the images there yep there it is so that looks like the same guy what it is I right-click on the image and I do the same thing again search Google for image and let's see if it's gonna appear on the website so now you can see clearly this is stock photography there is a guy right there click on that there we go so this is a stock photography image so that's already as a red flag for me so the one thing I didn't see on this particular website besides a whole bunch of risk free and 40% off is that didn't actually see the speed that this beast aspires to give you I mean that's why we buy a booster so as I scroll through and I'm looking for that information what I did notice is at the bottom is a couple of links and one of them is a manual which is a PDF and this is the first time I get to see that this is a 300 megabits per second Wi-Fi booster so this is older technology but okay 300 megabits per second that is the speed of this only available in the manual so again red flag number 2 why not boast about your signal up front okay let's see how much this guy actually cost I click on that pattern and here we go I get 50% off but only if I buy three of these so if I'm looking for the 40% of I basically gotta buy one so it's $49.99 plus 895 which basically makes it 58 94 plus shipping and handling so that's already very expensive now there's another option saying if you want to get the lifetime warranty additional five backs to unit 63 94 for a 300 megabits per second booster very very very expensive okay next up let's just go into Google search and just tap their super boost Wi-Fi and I can see that it comes up but look at those prices so I click on shopping and now $49.99 is what we saw on the official website super boost Wi-Fi but look at this underneath it $13.99 and that's available on eBay $14.99 available at eBay scroll further down and it even comes down to $29.99 and you can see one underneath there at ten dollars on wish okay so maybe eBay and wish is not the best website let's go try something like amazon.com okay same thing super boost Wi-Fi let's see together the options here and yes we do there is a run right there 2489 scroll a little bit further down $28.99 if we click on that super boost Wi-Fi range extender have a look at that and okay so basically I can get it at a fraction of the price simply but going through Amazon and avoiding their main website so whilst waiting for the delivery to arrive I found that super boost Wi-Fi actually has a Facebook page that's the same logo and a whole bunch of comments and information but let's hit on that bitly link on the website on the left hand side it should take you to the official website and yep okay same thing we were seeing earlier with the 40% off and the same pricing exactly the same all right so so we know we're definitely in the right place so let's go back now onto Facebook close it down and let's start scrolling through the comments and seeing what people's reactions are and this is when I started to panic because well read for yourself you can see people are not happy they ordered it and it never arrived and customer services is really pretty bad already this feels like a white labeled solution and sure enough there it is available on alibaba.com if you buy a hundred units of these you can get a really good price about $7 and there's the black one that I bought and I'm looking for the packaging if this even arrives well it should look like this but hey who knows cannot believe it actually arrived wow I am shocked I thought the video was gonna end back there with me simply saying they never shipped the product now one thing to note is it doesn't say super boost anyway not on the packaging not on the product itself but neither do the images on their website show super boost on the product itself so I have no way of confirming this is the same thing okay aren't around - does this actually work now that is here let's see what you get inside the box so you're gonna get a quick installation guide let's see if it's the same setup that you saw on the Amazon website yeah looks like the same screenshots as well you get a LAN cable nicely cruder dead I suppose and let's look at the product itself let's rip off that festive quickly yeah it feels nice and solid to be others nice good quality rj45 reset button WPS button in the front okay this is gay exotic does this actually work doesn't actually gonna do everything that the website said it's gonna do let's find that besides me sticking it in upside down in the wall socket the lights come on everything looks great it protrudes it a little bit but all these Wi-Fi boosters actually do exactly the same let's go set it off Wow I connected my Windows 10 machine - it works like a charm I can set it up as an AP or as a repeater but the first thing I do with any time I test the hardware is I go and I update the firmware you can see this was shipped in 2018 let's go update the firmware well I am stuck where do I go from here there's no way to download the firmware there's no link doesn't automatically download ok let's do a quick google search for super boost Wi-Fi firm way and let's see what comes up yeah so here is red flag number 3 now okay so this would be a non-starter for me right here if they don't support the run products with a firm way yeah it's just not worth doing for the sake of things let's just do a quick speed test just because we've gone this far we might as well I'm getting 30 to 35 megabits per second there is no way near the 300 and remember I'm literally sitting next to this thing so that's 35 down and 19 okay so I'm not pausing this at all normally I would fast-forward through a speed test but here you can see how much it's actually struggling so if it actually stops by itself gets to a certain point stops and then carries on stops and then carries on that's a problem so you give it the benefit of the doubt let's go run this test one more time but look I'm getting the same thing it's twenty point four two and it just stays there it doesn't do anything now remember this is supposed to be oh wow look at that download test error okay so basically it's struggling so let me go drop down into a command prompt I'm gonna flush the DNS IP config forward let's flush DNS I'm gonna ping Google so ping minus T space google.com this sends out a packet from my computer saying hey Google come back to me are you still there and because I'm doing minus T means it's repeatedly going a test what I'm looking for is any signs of the timing out so let's just give it a couple of seconds to go through it and see if I'm gonna get any of that and okay seems to be okay seems to be nice and solid the milliseconds is okay oh okay here we go first request timeout and then times out again and times out again so what seems to be happening is it's not able to maintain a good solid signal from my computer to the superboost repeater and then basically to my router than out onto the Internet am I still connected to the superboost yeah I am so seems to be fine seems to be fine and then times art seems to be fine seems to be fun and then turns out again seems to be fine seems to be fine Tom's are the gate okay so I mean this is just not usable at all I mean this will be ridiculously frustrating but we've come this far so we might as well test the cell phone connection as well just because well we won't have a full test yeah so on a cell phone go and into my Wi-Fi settings I'm gonna go to super boost make sure I'm connected to that yes I am let's fire up my Wi-Fi analyzer trusty little guy and right next to it 72 megabits per second 78 megabits per second I mean come on hundred and seventeen it fluctuates so badly and I'm not even moving and I'm literally right next to it just as oh okay whoa okay I mean what's the point really seriously what is the point if you're playing what 63 odd dollars for a 300 megabits per second Wi-Fi please sir that is certainly not the flatlands bahid you want to see let's look at the upload the okay I mean it's just not budging it's not going anywhere 211 I mean I'd come on this is just a non-starter I think I'm gonna try to get my money back what do you guys think okay so you stuck around for this long you want to know what the verdict is well a couple of things to note number one nothing wrong with white labeling that is a good practice as be going around for many years you take your company name you find a cool product you slap your company name on top of it you sell it under Amazon or Ebay and a whole bunch of places absolutely nothing wrong with it white labeling is fine number two was super boost after checking their website and looking at their Facebook page and their messages I'm not so sure you're gonna get good support if any at all all the messages seem to be very generic like I'll get back to you in 24 hours or DME etc and I'm not so sure I'm gonna get any firmware updates that is a big red alert for me number three if you're one of the lucky ones to actually receive a device which I cannot believe I'm even saying this well from a technical point of view it certainly doesn't work if you've seen the test that we've just read it times out it doesn't hold the signal it certainly doesn't boost your Wi-Fi and number four remember for that price there's so many more options from recognized brand names who do this for a living you know you're gonna get a good customer support and you know you're gonna get constant firmware updates I would absolutely spend my money they let other people know so they make an informed decision themselves as well love to know what you guys think and let me know in the comments check out more Wi-Fi tips and tricks Wi-Fi writers that you can actually trust hit the head we like to subscribe if you like this content give the video a thumbs up thanks for sticking around in this one I'll see you guys in those videos let's go
