hey guys this is which I'm junkies and today I'm going to continue making the most of my small shop by adding a French cleat storage for French fleets are the obvious choice for many when it comes to Walmart storage due to its versatility and offers easy to work in place mounting for both units that need to be stalled on the long term like my sander and sandpaper organizer and storage unit but also units that need to be removed from the wall more often that's why I decided to build a fridge heat wall from you all the way down to my garage door I'm going to build it from roughly this height upward so that my can still move against the wall and no higher than this so I can add full down Child's also all the way down to the garage door and so truly maximize my storage ability now a French cleat wall in itself is nothing too complex but my focus when I was designing mine was making the installation as simple and straightforward as possible a French cleat wall that can be installed by one person with minimal effort how I hoped to achieve this I will get to in a moment but first I'm going to slice up all the components okay so this is pretty much what my French treats is going to look like and besides cutting it with the conventional 45-degree angle I also added this shampoo at the back here with my router table but this is just for cosmetic reasons I've been using my table saw also remove the tip on the clip and the reason I did this is because Wendy cleats is fixed to the wall dust is barred to settle inside this groove over here by removing the tip it means that small amounts of dust won't prevent the key from sitting properly because it creates this little gap at the back yard and to finish off the preparation I gave everything a quick sand down and now I am ready to start assembling so to fix the kids to the wall I had one of two options I could either fix the teeth directly to the wall like this or I could install a plywood backing or wood backing and fix the kids to that I chose the latter for two reasons firstly fixing the cleats directly to the wall is going to involve a lot of drilling into the bricks which I'm not particularly a fan of secondly the wall is not hundred percent flat and I don't want my teeths following the contour of the wall this however creates a different problem to fill the space I have available I'm going to need almost two full sheets of plywood when the cleats are fixed it's going to be heavy and awkward to handle as one person so to overcome this I decided to break it up into full smaller and easier to handle panels now this is all the components that's going to be making up each panel I've got my pride wood backing my French cleat and then some bracing for the back I'm going to assemble four of them complete and then I can jump on getting it to the wall [Music] [Music] so this is pretty much what each of the four panels are going to look like at the back and I fix these planks to it for three reasons firstly to stiffen up each panel along its length while the cleats will stiffen it up along its worth it's also to create these three cavities or spaces behind the panels which I can use for running cabling because two of the panels I want to add wall sockets while one panel is going to need a cutout for my light switch thirdly it creates or gives me the opportunity to create these little overhangs on the edges which I will explain in more detail when I get to fixing the panels to the wall now as you may be able to guess I plan on fixing the keys from the back of the panel and the reason I decided to do this despite it being a bit more labored I think it will look a bit nicer when the panel is fixed to the wall because it will limit the amount of visible screws now to ensure uniform spacing between all the cleats I'm cut after this piece of wood using my table saw and I will use this to set the spacing between each Pete [Music] so this is pretty much what my French key panel is going to look like now I can quickly assemble the other three and then start getting it on to the wall okay now that I've got all my panels assembled I'm ready to start fixing them to the wall now to make this easier on myself I figured I would first assemble a frame that's going to be a lighter and easier to handle I would fix it to the wall and I can then simply pop each panel into place the frame would support the panel bring up both my hands to fix the panel to the wall oh that's like yeah at least for the bottom of the frame are made these which consists of two layers of half-inch plywood which is the same thickness as the panel backing and on top a wider three-quarter inch cleat these are going to be fixed to the wall and then the panel can just SWAT in from the top and these brackets will form the upright part of the frame it is two layers thick and just like the panel it was assembled with a slight overlap but the inverse of the panel which means that Windus is fixed to the wall the panel will be able to slide in from the side [Music] [Music] okay so with the bottom part of the frame in school I added only one of the uprights if everything goes as planned I should now be able to simply swap the panel in and over to put it in place I will then add the mixed up right and repeat the process until the wall is finished before I put the panel up I just quickly want to mention as I mentioned earlier do two of the panels I want to add wall socket for all power sockets so I simply made these little cutouts using my jigsaw I can now run the power down the back of the panel and have the power socket mounted on the face of the panel and the reason I'm adding power sockets is because if I ever want to have something like a charging station on the cleats I have power available I then also add in some holes to the panel so I can fix the panel or secure the panel itself to the wall also and that's pretty much it for this book my objective was to add a 13-foot French pleat storage wall to my shop but to design it that would allow me to install it alone and in that I think I succeeded if I had to redo it however I would add small chamfers on the pots that need to fit together because some of them were but stubborn hence the need for the mallet but the wall is up and I'm one step closer to making the most of my small shop next I need to jump on some additions to the wall because at the moment all I have is my sand to organize them at least now I can also start making use of the handles on my small pots organizer which I built quite a while ago but that's it for this video I've come a long way but I've still got a long way to go to make the most of my small shop I'm going to be posting a shop update soon to discuss some of my plans for 2020 in the meantime you guys can let me know what you think of this project in the comment section down below and if you haven't subscribed dating you want to see more projects like these you should do that now
