hello everybody and welcome to another episode of Sundays on the couch with George I'm George it's Sunday I'm on a couch that's from it's a neon sign that says sleigh that's a pacman ghosts and it's a beautiful day in Los Angeles and I'm super excited for today's episode for those of you who are new and for those of you who are returning to watch us this week I'm gonna walk us through the donation process so down the video description below you'll find a link to a GoFundMe page you'll go to that link and you'll make a donation of $10 for every $10 increment that you donate your name will be entered once into a drawing to meet me and today's special guest in a super cool private zoom group meet-and-greet that we are calling Sunday study hall so get those donations in it's super important to me and to our guests that everyone donate what they can if they can your donations will help us all make a difference from the comforts of our own living rooms what can be better than that and and just so you know if you do end up winning you're going to have to have zoom downloaded so if you are making donations make sure that you have zoom downloaded just in case you win and yeah we're also rolling out an art contest you may know this if you don't now you will for all you genius artists out there we're asking for submissions of your living rooms well you want to see what your living room looks like we want to feature your living room on a show and so you'll come up with a brilliant illustration and send it over to Sunday's on the couch with George at gmail.com to be featured in the coming weeks this week's artist extraordinaire is Asher aka at antisocial underscore headphones on Instagram you'll see Asher's living room in just a few I'm a huge fan of this one and yeah that bad that about wraps up rule time for today um you guys I first came across this week's guest back in high school and so so you have a little more context I graduated high school in 2004 not ashamed of it I'm a man in his 30s a friend of mine recommended that I listen to the original Broadway cast recording of Seussical the musical so I did and I was obsessed our guests originated the rule of Horton the Elephant and for years truly for years I sang along to his vocals every time I sat in a car every time I took a shower truly obsessed flash forward to over 15 years later day one of rehearsals for Little Shop of Horrors of the Pasadena Playhouse and I was like truly excusing myself to pinch myself because I couldn't believe that I was in a room with this person you've seen him in Addams Family on Broadway you found in love with him as Bertram on the Disney Channel's Jessie you've seen him as the Mushnik to my Seymour in the Pasadena Playhouse production of Little Shop and you'll see him next in Ryan Murphy's upcoming film adaptation of the prom please welcome three-time Tony winner excuse me three-time Tony nominees a Tony winner in my heart Kevin Chamberlin to the couch no one actually remembers nominee or you can say winner yeah he would he won three Tony Awards and is the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize I've ranked myself between my piano and flowers I love it piano piano flowers piano and flowers I'm framed between neon lights which is there in slate right um Kevin it's so good to see you I I adore you so so much we saw each other I came over to your house like just before quarantine and you and and and Michael your delightful perfect beautiful partner cooked me like an amazing feast we had a delicious Duty oh my gosh and just dabbed away the night away yeah your last guest who's the last guest first you fell asleep while Michael and I talked politics with the martini helped martini did help Kevin I'm so so happy that that you're here today and I'm really excited to raise money for a cause that I know you are very passionate about so please tell us a little bit about your charity what they do when and why you and why you chose to raise money for them well as most of you know that Cameron Boyce who was one of the stars of Jessie with me and he passed away of an epileptic seizure back on July 5th of last year and his family has created a foundation in his name that would there are three different causes that he was very very they were very dear to his heart one was of course the Epilepsy Foundation which there was the statistics are pretty amazing one in 26 people in the US will develop epilepsy and there's still a lot unknown about it and there's 65 million people living with epilepsy right now Cameron passed away of SUDEP which is a sudden death by epileptic seizure in his sleep and so we know so little about it and there's all this money will go to all the research and and medication for medication research for the for soon app and for eliminating epilepsy he also was incredibly involved in ending gun violence so he has a program that goes into schools and encourages young people to choose peace instead of violence he has a social media campaign where they do art installations up photography that is all about how to change laws and then also he is very involved in editing water there are so many countries without water carried not the got to travel because of his celebrity got to travel all over the world and learned about all these countries that you know that is our one major resource that will in the future and now really it can start Wars lack of water and so bringing water to people that don't have it and and funding ways of bringing water to different regions of the world so water guns and epilepsy that is the Cameron boys foundation and what could not be more important right now so the saving is is his spirit of saving lives all around the world and it's a it's an amazing foundation they also have given money to the Actors Fund so he's also involved in is his foundation is involved in helping young artists who are either living on the streets or this mom is works for the Homeless Coalition of Los Angeles so they're an incredible family and so please give to the Cameron boys foundation I'm really really really stoked to raise money for the foundation so right here the Charles V Edward Charles foundation is visionary sponsor of the Cameron Boyce foundation so if you see their name on the GoFundMe that's why but the money that is raised will be funneled into the Cameron boys foundation and Cameron was supposed to turn 21 in four days and so I feel like it's it's a great week to raise money in his memory and in his honor to help his foundation continue to do the work that he was so passionate a big push this there's a big push this way especially there's a matching donation of 50,000 I think and so you can just go to the camera and voice foundation.org vo 1 point spend 8 org and yeah he was supposed to turn 21 so donate we've we have hit 500 dollars which is music to my ears love that very much all right and so yeah Kevin thank you so much you know I you know I I want to know what have you been up to to take care of yourself um I have been baking you know this whole thing when there's no flour on the shelves it's cuz it's all I've been experimenting with the yeast it's amazing what you can do with four ingredients you know with you flour salt and water yeah cookies I made a pani Rustica which is a rustic bread that you know I always pick up at all foods and I never really think about how it's made the amount of time it takes just to proof a loaf of bread is really and it just I don't think I'll ever buy a little again I just the night before if you can make you know put in the work and and proof it overnight then it comes out into this beautiful and it's not a lot of work and it's pennies it goes depends and I think everyone is everyone's going back to the farm as it were because we are I know so many people are growing working on gardens in their backyard we've been getting them organic boxes you know and just we're trying to figure out some something good that can come from all this so we it's also this explosion of art online how people are expressing themselves in a new way I have a friend in st. Louis a playwright and teacher and actress named Nancy Bell who wrote I think one of the first plays on zoom and it was performed in American theater wrote an article about it and I as soon as I saw it I was like wow the it's there's endless possibilities yeah yeah and it's also it's bringing a new job to zoom editors yeah fun things with did you see the cast of the broadcast of single street I did not what they did with their zoom they did a zoom presentation that was like a reader's digest of the whole show they did a just pieces of each song and all from people's houses and it was edited so incredibly so art is exploding around even though we can't have an audience in a room yet yeah but I hope soon enough we will I hope so too and exciting I've been doing a lot of play readings and unzoom which has been fun and and weird yeah range strange type of acting I'm sure you've been a part of them too yeah no it's been it's been they've been they've actually been really good for my spirit and for my morale no I will say Kevin I am dying to get back in a room with you I went back when we were doing a little shop we talked about you directing a reunion concert or an anniversary concert of Seussical yeah and to have one in years and having me play Courtin and I am dying for that to happen that needs to happen it will you hear that universe yes by the end of the year by the end of the year we're gonna do it Tom opened in November of twenty of 2000 so we have to do it by November and and and you know if we need to do a virtual one we do a virtual one Kevin I've been asking all my guests this what have you been preparing to conquer once life returns to someone with a new of a new normal but well yes I was working on a cabaret act uh-huh and it was good you know the our family vacations Rosie O'Donnell created for gay right now first so I was going to be the headliner at their port of our era in July it just got canceled so but I'm still working on it for that so that's been fun and I want to I want to make it kind of fun and subversive and and silly and yeah so and my husband's been helping me with that I've also been I mean I really feel like my baking has has really filled that artistic void and yeah really the baking arts are very important and they've been them therapeutic in a lot of ways we've also been working a lot on the house getting stuff done that we've never had the time yeah you were painting laughs yes so you know everyone's everyone now has time to do stuff that they've been putting off yeah and so I've been filming myself that way it's interesting because when we are out of work actors and I think you can relate to this well I know when when when we are you know on leave as it were we do tend to be home bodies and so in that way it hasn't been that different for me because I don't have an office to go into every day and we do now do our auditions at home yeah you don't really have to with the self taping which is a whole nother show yeah yeah and so that's that's really I haven't felt that different I do miss having people over like you I do throw a damn good dinner party you really do baby you really do I can't wait for the I can't wait I can't wait for the dinner party the welcome bag it's like my husband and I do michael is is an amazing the two of you are the best hosts of all time well sing that you know like an old Liza party I've got a wig everyone watching knows I've got a wig I'll come over I'll sing show tunes yeah well I I cannot wait well Kevin is you know schools across the country are closed and I don't know about you but I've been regressing deep into childhood a little more each day you might not know this but a couple of months ago early in the quarantine I had a dream that I was peeing and I woke up and I I peed myself a little bit so you know I'm gone that was a very judgey face Kevin no I feel like a child again and so that's so let's let's hop into the DeLorean and take a trip to kindergarten with a huge segment that I call school's out school's out so within school's out we've got we've got a couple of really great segments plans for everyone the first of which you guessed it arts and crafts Kevin yes mark about what we should do and I feel like oh you know what Thank You Lilly I'm without pen I thought it would be great yeah you thank you oh thank you oh thanks Kevin um I thought it'd be great for us to do haikus about each other so just as a reminder a haiku is a Japanese poem that consists of three lines the first line has five syllables the second line has seven syllables and the third line goes back to five five seven but we are going to put 60 second timer on the clock and I'm nervous I'm nervous too I didn't do any pre-planning for this so this is going to be the Kevin Chamberlin haiku 60 seconds on the clock go 30 seconds 10 seconds and time 10 down Kevin and down this is mine and I so I made this pretty so that I can send it to you and you can frame it all right Kevin Kevin sweet Kevin so much heart so much talent I miss you so much and then I I don't know how to do Japanese characters a gibberish Japanese translation on the bottom there oh I like that I'm amazing you're welcome let's see it let's see yours stop working on it you can read it dressed in black dressed in black Lee 6 George is on the couch happy loving adidas how tragic would it have been if I wasn't just in black today we're sitting on a table and not account I love that Kevin I'm I am gonna drive over and we'll social social distance exchange these you do love your adidas but don't throw it out I love that whoo but you know what Kevin I think I worked up a little bit of an appetite Oh race I think it's time for snack time already already all right Kevin you have something really incredible planned okay I was not so I'm gonna start with what I've got I have a five-pound bag of sugarfree sour gummy bears no no yep everyone at home Amazon search sugarfree gummy bears and read the comments these notoriously give people diarrhea and I love love raising money so we're going to start at all so that's what I'm gonna do Kevin what um while I well I'll save the cutting and filled with the ASMR what do you have planned for us well if anyone comes over to my house they know that the first thing they will get is a beautiful charcuterie tray that rivals I connaissez because i connaissez was pretty impressive and he's he's you know I was really but there's always Triscuits three-state notice reduced-fat cuz yeah thank god so you know um where they came up with the name triskin know it tell us well here's what's fascinating we have a friend who's a naming she has a naming company and so not a naming company so you hire someone new names a product you know like drugs who came up with abilify I mean that's you know viagra it sounds you know they want something that is provocative so what is abilify I am NOT I think it's a depression drug I think but I was fascinated by Triscuit and I realized it's biscuit so biscuit starts with by which means - yeah so they go up one to try Triscuit it's three times a biscuit one twice [Music] so I so I've been inspired by the front they always have very pretty Triscuit recommendations I don't know is that pomegranate seeds and maybe some melted cheese and cottage cheese together I have no idea but they always have a different picture I'd plant and I've been inspired and so Michael I always make these little Triscuit hors d'oeuvres that are lots of fun cours de board what horse pours oyster roses yes and they can be simple like you know like a BLT you can do so that there's like bacon lettuce and tomato isaac deeper hmm Bert yeah okay oh my god they can be a little more architectural here's a volcano so let's little saffron flakes coming out of the lava and cilantro and of course my favorite spray cheese any spray cheese will do any cheese will do I just I I think this speaks volumes about the type of people that we are you have created culinary masterpieces and I'm gonna eat five pounds of some here's another one oh my god yes yeah you're definitely getting a creative outlet from from cooking and from preparing your something a little architectural huh are those little cornichons yes pepper I mean I'm you know what shows cancel I'm coming over it will put or me 6 feet away from the front door of course I made for you a Jorge Salazar orders no one's ever made an odor based on me what is this well it better not be coupon at risk and I'll be very upset but you have to put on your black glasses because your black glasses were the inspiration here you go oh my god it's me Mia so red pepper what's what's the news all right a carrot right olives for the glasses and then I was little almost cut up for the hair and and and and is what is the spread that you have there cream cheese yes it's it's like glue so you can put anything on it I'm honored and n oh you are Edie this is our whole creation let's keep up with older Becca wait so that's that one in front is the Red Roof Inn with a pickle staying there Kevin we might as well cancel the show after there's no topping those toppings no we all right come on let's do it oh I'm gonna put in my mic so you can really hear the crunch oh do we have an audience to them yeah you know your special guests Lily and Rachel it's sayin Rachel I know how much you love this this crunching and eating to make to make everyone at home feel comfortable safe and represented they'll be here to tip to deal with us I'm gonna put this my crate next to and I'm gonna eat the BLT Oh run from the bacon it needs a little extra cheese wait I'm gonna eat the Red Roof Inn don't be inside of your mouth with those sharp crackers you've learned so much today learn the difference between a biscuit and a Triscuit and it's buy and try look at Sam the dreaded snack time this haiku can't plug my ears thus it is useless I can't eat anymore they think I'm worried about the diarrhea ingredients I truly love my dear avant-garde soundscapes hooray for snack time I love that the ingredients for Triscuits Oh me yeah no low oil sea salt look I don't I don't believe that's all that there is in that it's all the words hi hi I'm Kyra's and I looked at the reviews on those gummy bears and George Godspeed man thank you that's why are we eight five I only heaven can we get one more can you get Kenny one more Triscuit Oh they eat me you mean Oh here eat there were kids this is an egg sac it's a breakfast it's egg salad and bacon look at that with with my husband made deep fried shallots Oh nosers are the ones sticking on top isn't that amazing yeah and then oh my god thank you Michael Michael's laughing out loud you need to eat George meet George keep me my Lily Rachel by Sam adjusting evening meeting George now breathe take a breath the food or dude oh my god I I need a whiny penny water that is brilliant that was beautiful it was Michael Michaels um the most wonderful creation I think was this is come fire and ice I [Laughter] thought it looked like the beginning of Superman the Kryptonite yes Oh there goes my keyboard AppleCare baby oh so funny Kevin what time has been a joy well I need to break a wall I need to break em up but we've got another really exciting segment I love this segment and a lot of the viewers love it as well redemption talent show this is your opportunity Kevin to make up for a failed performance whether you were five or whether you were 35 and so what what tell us about a failed performance that you you want a second chance at today I am it wasn't necessarily a performance it was an audition for an improv audition for Curb Your Enthusiasm aha for Larry David himself have you ever had one of those auditions for Larry David no additional can improv audition no not yet I'm not good at it give me lines give me love give me words I don't want to write your lines for you got a pay me extra for that but I'm trying to think of performance then I screwed up lines well now I'm pretty sure that you had you were telling me about a song that involved a ukulele Oh oh yes all right I really hope it's out of two and it really ought to be a minute it's really on - all right so my brother and so this was a camp this was I sang a song called will you heal near the song no I forgot to to Mew it's perfect my brother threw up on my stuffed toy Bonnie you better not laugh cuz really isn't funny he was lying next to me when I was sound asleep could have been worse Bonnie names bill and he's pink and white his eyes are purple and he glows at night his ears are ragged and his nose is red he soft as billa from his toes to his head my brother threw up on the stuffed toy Bonnie you better not laugh cuz it really isn't funny he's lying next to me when I found asleep you could have been worse bunny now sits on my shelf at home next to my smelly toy telephony and next to brownie bear with all the stains and the spots cuz my little brother throws on my brother throw-up door by the in that goes on like that I completely forgot philosophers will have you back on the show to have another 100 cycles clapping in the bedroom room clapping in the bed Gavin you met a brilliant idea for a segment and I couldn't say no to it it's a segment that we are calling drama club yeah so Kevin Kevin's idea here was to use his iPhone to use the predictive text feature to fill in dialogue and so we thought it would be a great idea to do the scene from Little Shop of Horrors but between which I can see more during the song separate time when when wish like has kind of put two and two together and he's been to the and it's this moment of seymour being caught and so what we did was we took all of kevin's Mushnik lines we kept the first five words or five or so words from each of those lines and allowed his iphone to predict the next word and he just kept he kept tapping the middle the middle word that pops up you'll get three three options and so what we've put together here I think is is pure lips or Prize winning writing here really punching up Howard Ashman shot so we now further ado ladies and gentlemen predictive text dialog drama club Little Shop of Horrors page 72 of the libretto if you're following along at home here we go the scene between I remember all of the scene where lines are as written it can be truthful under imaginary circumstance yes which is the definition of acting do I start yep little red dots all over here and there's no way of you going there to see if it was going there you're acting pretty strange pop and pretty strange dream about you today but you were so sweet and I had fun with you the police yes it seems they made a routine investigation into a good job that was going to be in a long long way for sure what's that supposed to mean exactly what I asked myself Seymour but then I began to think about that one thing and it was just too hard for me to do anything oh yeah I spilled some Hawaiian Punch and it stained hard to keep things clean around here but it's not hard enough for the kids who have a fever what does that have to do it where you going you want something removed in a hurry it's gonna be a long day for you guys this the date this doesn't work well for the iPhone and it seems very cool and fun but it's not worth buying it and I think we've got some standing OHS oh my god it's just it's like Arthur Miller and rolled into a black mirror we are we will be closing the drawing very shortly so get those donations in before it's too late building that shortly and Kevin I you had mentioned something about a segment that you wanted to do yes well I am a email amateur magician oh I would say and is that with these yes yes there's a lot of segments I wanted but yes and this is a segment this is a trick you can do on your iPhone and after we do it maybe I'll I'll teacher your listeners and Watchers how to do it okay let's do it echoing out George iPhone what do you love them good you calculate it okay and so I want you to multiply a bunch of numbers single digits just so that you get a at least a million on that in the you know in the top so 1 comma 0 0 0 comma 0 0 0 so much numbers and excluding 0 and 1 correct don't multiply yeah don't look like on one because then you get zero or the same number so everybody any number other than zero one and then the number you have think about one of the numbers in the sequence and that is your secret number that I'm going to guess okay I got it okay sorry I'm going to you can show the number to your viewers and I'm going to put this blindfold on which is actually my mask that I wear it's by a community of New York wonderful plaid designers that are really cool it's beautiful I'm gonna guess I'm gonna guess your number but you have to give me all the other numbers in your number and you don't have to give them to me in order not oh so little bit all right other numbers in your number you should show that the number to your Watchers and point at the number that I'm supposed to guess yes right now you're gonna give me every other number that's in that line but not your number yes all right all right I'm sorry for 3 mm 5 mm for 5 mm-hmm zero mm-hmm that's it 6 that's correct it's such now I know magicians don't don't share their secrets but but do you want do you want to shed some light on this this might be a fun one because it's just a fun one for kids and to show their so hold up that number again yeah now what you're gonna do is I'm gonna come up a whole number George I know all right new number fun trick okay so say they pick the number 4 so mm-hmm it's a five and then the other four which is nine and you you add that you add the fruit dude those dudes together you get nine and then they're going to say three which is 12 now if you get a two-digit number you add those two digits together so that'll be three hang nine one three not I'm sorry wait you picked four right let me pick for you so five three is 12 so that becomes three and then raised new is five and then zero it stays five so you saw that the number you end up with from nine nine minus five is four and that's 16 yet your number it's a pretty epic if you played trick and that the gentleman was magic moment we needed to put that in it's just fool you games to play Kevin I'm I'm really excited for this next segment a little background for this this by the way is delayed duets I first heard you as I said earlier on the Seussical soundtrack cast album whatever you want to call MIT and I there was a it was the day of little shopper her soul when you and I sat down with wit for music rehearsal and did mushnick and son together and that someone pulled me aside after we ran through it and he said wow your voice and and Kevin's voice like though your voices blend so nicely together and my response was yeah no kidding I've been singing along that guy's Roy's for years and so I'm really excited to get the song with you I think I'm a little too old to be playing Jojo but but let's pretend I'm not but for those of you if I set up the song for those who don't know horton hears a who horton has heard a cry for help on a small speck of dust and all the jungle citizens have basically made him a pariah and said we don't believe you you're crazy talking to a small speck of dust and George plays a little boy down on that small speck of dust and I am Horton the Elephant and I think that's all you need to know here is alone in the universe from Seussical the musical I've been guarding this clover for over a week to be laughed at and thinking a dust speck let them all that I'll try not to mind I found something they'll never fire but a person seems to me that a person seems to care there is no one who believes a thing I say well I'm fairly certain at one time or other please all feel [Applause] [Music] 500 universe so alone in the universe I found magic they don't they all call me a limiter okay call me a lunatic if I stand on my own so I have wings yes around the moon and far beyond this one day small one true friend [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] hello Jojo the mayor's corner oh I'm what yellow you're real or you just a very watered think look all right I would state that I think the nine thinks I imagine a lot of strange things and I go to strange places we get by goblins I love a good thinker look for me that goes double sometimes we think sir would get me in trouble when you think D dream me right colors we do and I go to strange places like solace saloon when you think do you think you could fly to the stars when no one else can a state such as ours [Music] you called my name and good night Horton you install this tool just so everyone knows we ran that at soundcheck and I was uncontrollably crying by the end it is yes to sing that with you today warms my heart more than you will ever know true thank you so much everyone watching the drawing is officially closed winners of the drawing will appear below in the ticker once they've been randomly selected winners keep an eye on in your inbox for word on how to join Sunday study hall and if you didn't win this week don't worry we'll have another chance next Sunday right here on YouTube and as a reminder our GoFundMe page for the Cameron boys foundation will remain live so if you're watching this on the Tuesday you can still donate Kevin I end every episode RepA sewed with a segment that I like to call sweet tweets I asked the Internet to say some nice words about you and I have to tell you I agree with every single one of these products so here are just a selection of my favorites at that adrenalin said he is absolutely hilarious and he has great tasting baseball teams his performance as mushnick was fantastic and worth every hour spent flying across the country I grew up to me along to him and Seussical and the Adams family as well as watching his iconic role as Bertram at Janus Sarkisian said Kevin is the sweetest before our production of Seussical he sent our sweet company a video of him and another cast member of wicked who worked on Seussical to break a Legg for our opening night he gave us ice and was the meanest ever he deserves the world I love him at Davey J Jacobs says legit love him with every fiber of my being I would love to see him live at some point nothing but respect for my Horton Fenty banty said my first note was Seussical and I was Horton and my second was Adams I was not faster but throughout both shows I absolutely fell in love with his voice and acting he is wonderful and apparently I don't follow him so I need to fix that BRB and then there was a follow-up to a tweet that said fixed at Spice God Salazar said he is so versatile in his work every role that he is /was is always it always seems to be exactly for him he always knows what direction to go for each character also the best Mushnik and lastly my good friend at mr. joy Khanna said his performance in dirty blonde is truly one of my favorites ever having a character like that being romantic lead really blew my mind when I first saw it and that was all because of his performance so specific so weird so charismatic so human and dirty-blond was your first Tony Nam correct it was it was and it was the first time I got to kiss the girl as character actors rarely get to kiss the girl so well you know reading that that tweet from Joe I think I also I think I can add to that in saying that that performance probably in for most likely informed his writing as an adult because his his focus as a writer is is to shine light on those character actors and give those character actors a different muscle to flex and a different way to showcase their ability so so yeah good going inspiring so many people you inspire me bruh Khanna songs that I got to sing for a big benefit and there's a recording of it except Radetzky plays a lot on Broadway that come on Sirius XM is plants make wonderful pets from from the theater works USA production of the plant the dirty socks yeah yeah well on that high note thank you so much for spending your Sunday with all of us Kevin and thank you for bringing the Cameron boys foundation to our fundraising efforts
