Sunday Morning Live Worship Apr. 25th, 2021

[Music] is good morning everybody it's good to be here once again today just give me a second to get organized okay all right here we go i want to talk to you a little bit about uh partners in mission this morning and uh there was a video i think placed up on monday for week six because uh usually at the beginning of partners admission i get to do a little children's time with you about it but that didn't happen this year so here it goes in many countries around the world health care and education do not get the necessary attention that is needed to serve the community but the salvation army is providing a quality education for the youth who dream of becoming doctors and nurses by receiving a good education they'll be able to achieve their dreams and serve their communities now here's a question for you do any of you know the children i guess know what you want to be when you grow up some of us are already there you guys know what you want to be when you grow up no not yet but that's okay too some of us do know did you know that god is the one who gives us all those dreams they are all different but they are all very important just think about your body for a minute you can hear with your ears talk and eat with your mouth breathe with your lungs and think with your brain every part has a different purpose but they are all very important and useful the same is true with the gifts talents and dreams that god gives us whether you want to be a doctor a lawyer a farmer a repairman a bus driver or a pastor they all have a purpose in god's kingdom sometimes it's not always clear what our purpose is but god knows how everything fits together if we look for a moment at first corinthians 12 i took i should have took a stand let's see first corinthians 12 verses 4 to 7 says there are different kinds of gifts but they are all given by the same spirit there are different ways to serve but they all come from the same lord there are many different ways to work but the same god makes it possible for all of us to have those different things the holy spirit is given to each of us in a special way and that is for the good of all just think about this for a minute and it says this later on in verse 17 just think that if your whole body was an eye just think if my nose was an eye i wouldn't be able to smell would i no i wouldn't be able to smell would i glenn no what if my ears were an eye would i be able to smell uh here i mean i'll get mixed up yeah no i wouldn't be able to hear just as god gave us all different parts of our bodies to work together he has given us all different talents and abilities to work together in order to serve him and to serve others just ask yourself what are some of the things that you guys are really good at and how can you use those things to help somebody well as part of our goal and partners in mission some very talented people already use their gifts to come up with a theme and i think we said pray give and love there's been songs written about it artwork packages done up so their talents have been used in many ways but we've been challenged to d these three things pray give and love and that's very important some of us have the gift of charity and are able to give and support financially maybe some more of us could show the gift of love by using our ability to write or draw pictures to send to our missionaries who are overseas and i'm sure and i know that god has given us all the ability and the privilege to pray for all the people in zambia and the work that god is doing there through people just like you and me in 1st peter 4 and 10 it says god's gifts of grace come in many forms each of you has received a gift in order to serve others and you should use it faithfully let's say a little prayer together dear god thank you for making each one of us unique thank you for blessing us with special gifts please help us to be able to use the gifts you have given us in order to serve others so that we can also serve you in your precious name we pray amen god bless you all you can follow along if not you can follow along on the wall and we're reading from acts chapter 17 beginning to read at verse 1 acts 17 and verse 1. when they had passed through amphipolis and apollonia i now know why you asked me to read your scripture [Laughter] they came to thessalonica where there was a jewish synagogue as his custom was paul went into the synagogue and on three sabbath days he reasoned with them from the scriptures explaining and proving that the christ had to suffer and rise from the dead this jesus i am proclaiming to you is the christ he said some of the jews were persuaded and joined paul and silas as did a large number of god-fearing greeks and not a few prominent women but the jews were jealous and so they rounded up some bad characters from the marketplace formed a mob and started a riot in the city they rushed to jason's house in search of paul and silas in order to bring them out to the crowd but when they did not find them they dragged jason and some other brothers before the city officials shouting these men who have caused trouble all over the world have now come here and jason has welcomed them into his house they are all defying caesar's decrees saying that there is another king one called jesus when they heard this the crowd and the city officials were thrown into turmoil and then they made jason and the others post bond and let them go may the lord indeed add wisdom and glory to his word this morning amen check one two here we go thank you darling did a much better job reading that than i would i just want to uh say please bear with us you're hearing some adjustments being made to the system this morning you look up and you'll see that we have a new brand new stack of speakers up there and it's taken some time to get things adjusted bear with us uh we're blessed that the lord is provided in such a way that now a new system has been installed in our beautiful sanctuary so praise the lord for that this past friday there was some big news in the army world that comes out about this time every year there's a number of officers that are on the move and i would ask that you would uh keep them in their families and your prayers and the announcement really that i want to share with you is that uh after just about two years we're still staying around and we're not going anywhere i say and it's not jokingly but this is uh this is serious the meter has not even started to run yet when it comes to our stay here in cbs because most of our time has been a washout with covid and stormageddon and all this stuff that uh that happened so it's hard to believe that we've only had five normal months in just about two years of ministry here yeah so you can understand why i would say the meter hasn't even started to run when it comes to our stay here we're staying around for a while yet those who are listening in authority this morning via live stream take note take notes take note worship team help us out will you as we sing this uh song this morning before we look into god's word my it's good to be in god's house it's wonderful to look upon your faces this morning to be able to worship together for you are here today it's the first time in a very long time that we've been able to worship together in person we're blessed to say that we're open again this evening for in-person worship so morning and evening now we're going to be blessed to have folks in our congregation to worship with corporate worship my it's rich and it's how the lord intended for it to be and i believe this morning we are feeling the effects of that as we are together in father's house to worship the lord this beautiful hymn could you stand with me as we sing together dear lord i do surrender myself my all to thee my time my store my talent so long withheld by me the course says here am i my lord send me it's a song of [Music] the challenge this morning we look at that second verse it says too long at ease in zion i've been content to dwell while multitudes are dying and sinking into hell lord help us help us to be about our father's business help us to be bold and witnessing help us to be the hand extended to those who need jesus in these days let us do our part to win that soul for jesus will you answer the call today surrender all [Music] oh lord that commitment this morning we make to you we answer the call we accept the challenge lord nothing that we could ever do in our own strength but only through the empowerment and the infilling and the anointing of the holy spirit of god so lord if there's one today who's struggling [Music] maybe not even walking with jesus searching lord i pray in some way that you would lead us to them we ask first of all that your holy spirit would speak to them and lord maybe your spirit will speak to us and will lead us to their direction [Music] if it be saul may we be willing to go [Music] we have a story to tell we have a witness to share we have a gospel to preach and it's jesus saves he still does lord just move among us now in these moments as we open the pages of your word i pray that you would give your people minds that are attentive today in hearts that are receptive to what the holy spirit of god would say to them anoint me lord your servant give me strength today to proclaim your word with boldness with clarity and with understanding i pray and may the church respond with a resounding yes i will follow jesus i will do my part this i pray in jesus name amen and amen praise the lord praise the lord deal amen in his book secret power wrote these words nine tenths at least of the church's members never think of speaking for christ if they see a man perhaps a near relative just going right down to ruin going rapidly they never think of speaking to him about his sinful course and of seeking to win him for christ now certainly there must be something wrong and yet when you talk to them you find they have faith and you cannot say they are not children of god but they have not the power they have not the liberty they have not the love that real disciples of jesus christ ought to possess a great many people are thinking that we need new measures that we need new churches that we need new organs and that we need new choirs and all of these new things that's not what the church of god needs today moody goes on to say it is the old power that the apostles had that's what we want and if we have that in our churches there will be new life can you say amen to moody's statement today how many of you can say amen to that mood he said it well didn't he and no truer words ever spoken when we tap into the old power source yet it's new friends that power that the disciples had who is the holy spirit we will then begin to see new life in the church great words we have done well it's going to take a moment to pat you on the back the conception based south core has done well but we have not arrived we're not done the work's not finished there's still multitudes dying and sinking into hell and we can't be careless have we stepped it up to its fullest potential a broad door for ministry is open but is there more there's always the need for new life in the church there's always need for church growth there's always a need to assist in the building of the kingdom of god what are we doing what are we doing there's only one thing i believe the church needs to do more than ever today and it is this it's this evangelism evangelize look over the door let me remind you of that statement again this morning go ye therefore and teach all nations that word go go evangelism the spreading of the christian gospel by preaching or personal witness you see we are living testimonies of jesus christ and his love amen we not only have religion you know what else we have we have a relationship a relationship with the savior of the world and therefore we should want to share that we should want to tell it we should want others to know about it every moment of every day of our lives when the opportunities come we should want to tell it and it shouldn't matter where we are it shouldn't matter who it is we should go and tell the verse of scripture that really emphasizes this point are the words jesus shared with his this his disciples over a period of 40 days after his resurrection acts chapter 1 verse 8 you will receive power when the holy spirit comes on you and you will be my witnesses where in jerusalem in judea in samaria and the uttermost parts of the earth the ends of the earth the result of being filled with the holy spirit of having a close relationship with the risen living lord is telling others telling others telling others in word who jesus is and telling others in action by how you live who jesus is we are to witness and it's spelled out in jerusalem in judea and in samaria and the ends of the earth now what does that mean what does jerusalem what does judea what does samaria even have to do with any of us does it even matter well what does it have to do with us everything everything let me break it down for you our jerusalem our immediate community right here where we live or out there wherever you live that's your jerusalem your judea is your province for us newfoundland and labrador our samaria is our country canada and it goes on to say the uttermost parts of the earth the nations and the people of this world behind me is a beautiful wall display and some of you might be looking at that and saying what in the world is that what is that some of you have it figured out if you do shout it out what is it it's cbs yes it is the focal point is the cross right the cross of jesus everything revolves around the cross of jesus christ which is our hope which is our power then we see the vine we are reminded that jesus is the vine we are the branches and if we are the branches that means we are to reach out challenges us to be disciples to be witnesses for jesus and then we see that map the map of our beautiful town of conception based south of cbs our witnessing our initial point of contact is right here in this town fulfilling the great commission go ye therefore into all the world preach the good news of the gospel to all creation to us it begins right here in cbs from paradise topsail the seal cove the holy root extends to the other most parts of the world sure become real to us isn't it in these days how we are able to reach the world for jesus aren't you thankful for technology technology makes it possible but let's remember it has to start right where you live don't forget your family don't forget your friends don't forget your neighbor your co-worker your classmates they need jesus we have a message to share we have a life to live and let's let it show for jesus let it show for jesus friends i believe that's the focus god wants us to have build your kingdom here we pray can you imagine the impact how we can just turn our world upside down for jesus if we would reach out to our jerusalem our judea our samaria the uttermost parts of the earth friends here's the challenge first of all we need to be transformed ourselves we need to be transformed ourselves we need to live the life that would make a transforming difference to be a transforming influence in our world as the salvation army mission statement clearly says it's called evangelism the spreading of the christian gospel by preaching or personal witness we're called friends to a common purpose in what we do the purpose is to worship our purpose is to love our purpose is to celebrate christ our purpose is to share him always how are you doing how are you doing with that that's our challenge that's our mission we look at the passage of scripture that major claudette read for us a few moments ago it's a challenge to be that transforming influence that witness to be difference makers we see in our scripture text a unique man a man we often read about in scripture man we talk about often from scripture one who stood apart from others and his name is paul paul in my opinion as a man on a mission not swayed by public opinion not worried about what others thought not worried about the political correctness of the day my can't we all learn from paul amen can't we all learn from paul what do we know about this man he was jewish by birth and a roman citizen he lived in a city of tarsus and parents were well off we look at paul's education and we know that money came from somewhere and so we can only assume that his parents were well off his wife was dedicated to studying the law his life was dedicated to studying the law of abraham most likely a member of the sanhedrin was a chief persecutor and then his entire life changed when he met jesus christ on the road to damascus as recorded to us for us in acts chapter 9. god called him out of his old lifestyle he became a brand new man a born-again child of god he was called into ministry as a missionary an evangelist to preach the gospel of jesus christ and this calling forever changed his direction and truly transformed his life paul was without a doubt a man who changed the world a man who became a transforming influence in the world what does it take to be that positive transforming influence what does it take what does it take to win the loss for jesus christ i believe we can start with this one word you ready it's not a common word it's not popular in today's society not very famous at all we don't hear about it much anymore it can start with this integrity whoa integrity the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles and moral uprightness integrity it's needed in your life it's needed in my life in order to be that positive transforming influence in our world you want to make a difference be real did you hear me you want to make a difference be real live a life of integrity luke tells us in acts 17 and 4 that paul's preaching was was successful in thessalonica some of the jews were persuaded and joined paul and silas as did a large number of god-fearing greeks and quite a few prominent women now the people of that day were looking for something real something real just as your family just as your co-workers and as your neighbors and as your church are today looking for something that is real when these people look at you do they see that you're genuine do they see that you're real do that you're filled with integrity in your walk with jesus a true authentic follower of jesus this world in which christianity was conceived was a world of total immorality depravity corruption dishonesty you see back in paul's day slavery was a universally accepted system homosexuality was rampant sexual permissiveness was the rule of the day prostitution and all forms of sexual immorality were a major part of religion human life was cheap and pleasure was primary and then into that world of immorality into that world of corruption christian injured christians introduced this word integrity a change of lifestyle living a life that's real that's honest the people didn't know what to do with that first thessalonians 1 9 tells us that these christians that paul reached had turned to god from idols to serve the living and the true god talk about turning a world upside down for jesus it was happening they were real now think about our world today we're not removed at all are we from that type of society that paul talks about when we think about the world that we live in today i think we can use the word immoral i think we can use the word dishonest i think we can use the word corrupt we don't have to look far to see it we're living in that same world today we've become a society a nation a world that ignores the importance of integrity and i've said it and you've said it and i've heard it said i believe the world needs jesus now more than ever come on a louder amen i know you've got your mask on but that's okay need to hear the amen we have a story to tell to the nations that shall turn their hearts to the right a story of what truth a story of mercy a story of peace and light d.l moody said the measure of a man's real character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out whoa think about that think about that god help us is my prayer god help me god help me we all have feet of clay we all are prone to fall we're all prone to wander and i believe we can pray god help us i want to be a genuine follower of jesus christ i want to be one who daily is being conformed into his image i want to be one whose life witnesses to the redemptive work of christ on the cross i'll have i want to have a renewed mind renewed by the power of the word i want my life to bring glory to god i want to in the words of the prophet micah to act justly to love mercy and to walk humbly with my god i want to in the words of jesus love the lord your god with all your heart with all your soul with all your mind and love your neighbor as yourself i want that to lead a life of influence in this world you need to live a life of integrity write it down write it down to lead a life of influence in this world you need to live a life of integrity next two points are quick you want to be a person of true influence of witness follow the example of the church of thessalonica became a transforming influence because of their intensity first thessalonians 1 and 8 for from you sounded out the word of the lord not only in macedonia and a chaos but your faith in god became known everywhere we know that the intensity of the thessalonian church didn't die down they were on fire for jesus these christians had a faith that was so intense that their reputation was known their faith in god became known everywhere and that's something to be said of you isn't that something to be said of our church here in conception based south so intense that everyone knows about it friends i believe we need that spirit of intensity of passion of power of strength of excitement not only sundays when we gather for worship but every day that we live daily lives with that intensity to show forth who jesus is wanting everyone everywhere to know no time for ease and comfort right too long at ease and zion i've been content to dwell let it not be said of us sad to say the message heard so often from churches today is let's not do anything to bring attention to ourselves let's not get involved in anything controversial let's not take a stand politically let's not do anything to trouble the waters or stir the pot make sure we're politically correct in our approach we wouldn't want to offend anybody too often far too often we hear about it rather than the church influencing society i believe society is influencing the church friends let it not be said of us we have a story to tell jesus says jesus says too many today have lost their intensity the fire they once had is gone some may call me a little bit old-fashioned you listen to some of the songs and courses we've sung over this last year you must ask how old is that fellow anyway you might call me a little old-fashioned but you know what i call it i call it standing up for jesus really and we need to do it listen church listen i'm going to conclude in just a moment but by proclaiming this message of non-intensity losing the power the fire has gone out we got no zeal anymore the passion is gone by living that kind of a lifestyle being a church like that you know what we're saying we're saying shh we don't want to be a world changer we're saying shh i don't want to be a difference maker i don't want to be a transforming influence for jesus let's keep it quiet we weren't called to that lifestyle amen we were not called to that lifestyle we're called to make a noise for jesus to stand up stand up for jesus ye soldiers of the cross to be bold for jesus friends i cannot keep it quiet how about you remember the old sunday school chorus it's bubbling hey right yeah it's bubbling in my soul they're singing there's laughing since jesus made me old made me whole folks can't understand it nor can i keep it quiet it's bubbling bubbling bubbling bubbling it's bubbling day and night no we're not going to sing it we're not going to sing it did somebody say why you remember that course right we can't keep it quiet let the fire of the holy spirit burn within you let that excitement that intensity that passion that zeal burn within and let it be shown to be a transforming influence for jesus i have to get out into the world let it be known what i believe if i ever expect them to join me in my cause if i ever expect to make a difference and see others come into the kingdom of god and invite the worship team to come back let's get uh i'm pointing over here now for worship team you folks aren't a worship team the band is back friends yeah the band is back [Applause] it's great play that first course through will you just play it quietly you want to make a difference [Music] get on board get involved get involved yes cove had got in the way of some stuff shut us down there's no programs i'm not sure who to talk to anymore i don't know if i can approach anybody anymore i can't go to people's houses i can't do some of these things that i really want to do for jesus in reaching out friends there's a way far too often those words because of covet have gotten in the way over these last months but there's a way there's a way get involved paul and his companions were willing to be involved in the lives of these people jason in our scripture was willing to get involved by welcoming these christian leaders into his home even though he knew it could mean trouble for him don't get me wrong i'm not telling you to go against all those health restrictions but find a way find a way a lot of things that we would like to see happen in our church in our world that's not going to happen unless we all get personally involved in the cause of christ we like the thessalonians need people to be involved in our church we need you to help us in our attempt to build the kingdom of god boy there's much i can say about that today but you know it and i know it time is gone live a life of integrity be intense in your walk with jesus let that intensity be restored get involved all for the sake of jesus all for the sake of his kingdom all for the sake of your loved one maybe your spouse maybe some family member your child your grandchild maybe your neighbor maybe your co-worker all for the sake of them coming to jesus [Music] i want to do it i want to do all that i can bring them to jesus [Music] the course says i want to stand o lord do you let me see your hand you want to stand for jesus i want to stand oh lord there's one this morning that's maybe struggling in your walk with christ it's gotta start it's gotta start by you being in connection with jesus and i'm encouraging you first and foremost today to make that happen you say well i can't use the altar yes you can [Music] bring somebody that's in your bubble with you [Music] and we'll pray with you from a distance no excuses today i just want to serve jesus i just want to walk with jesus friends we have the most powerful force ever known in the world you know what it is it's the message of a resurrected savior it is let's tell it let's live it i want to stand i want to be bold by the power of your presence make me blind take control nothing i could ever do on my own but all through the empowerment of the holy spirit of god let's pray together let's pray together and then we'll sing lord what a wonderful privilege this morning to be in your house thank you lord that the moment you saved us you called us you called us to minister you called us to witness you call us to be influential you call us to be different lord today i'm praying for my friends that you would help each and every one of them and myself included today to be difference makers in this world that we would give all to jesus and that we would be bold to share of your saving grace and the difference you can make in their lives lord help us to speak it boldly [Music] help us to genuinely live it every day we pray in jesus name i want to stand oh lord [Music] glory and your purpose [Music] take control i want to stand for jesus [Music] is [Music] [Applause] thank you [Music] [Music] but by your we can make a difference [Music] nothing is all i will be unless you lord come create in me something that will make a difference in this world trust you prayed that prayer today that god has spoken to your heart ah let's change the key let's raise it to the key of f and let's sing everybody ought to know who jesus is and then sergeant major lloyd will come and he's going to lead us in our concluding song but let's lift these this song through christ as well beloved son my poor hearty sodom cannot wonder can you wonder why i want to tell it i want to tell what god can do for sinners lost like me and you of sin wash white and garment snook and you wonder why i want to tell it i want to tell you what the lord has done what the lord has done for me he lifted me from the myriad clay and oh what a happy day now i want to tell you what the lord can do what the lord can do for you he could take your life as he did mine and make it new let's stand as we sing the band will lead us [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] you from experience what he's done in my own life he transformed it he made something meaningful and he gave me a new insight on life and you know most of all one day i'm gonna sit at his feet forever year the new video for this week will be posted online on our facebook page tomorrow the goal that has been set for the cbs core is fourteen thousand dollars and currently the amount that we have raised to date is six thousand eight hundred and seventy five dollars so we have a little way to go to meet our goal but uh we are believing that we will certainly do that so that we can do our part um to help others around the world as they are going and sharing the gospel message envelopes are available in the foyer if you don't have your partners in mission envelopes i'm pleased to let you know that we are going to return to in-person prayer meetings and that will be starting here on wednesday evening at 7 pm please note that registration will be at the door when you arrive on wednesday evening and please note that your masks are required registration for next sundays in in-person worship services will take place tomorrow morning at nine o'clock please note that registration is done by the calling the office phone number only please and we thank you in advance for your understanding your offering and partners in mission giving will be accepted on your way out this morning and i will note for those that are listening online that there will be an offering drop off tomorrow evening as well between 7 00 p.m and 8 p.m and that's for it for the announcements and i do want to say worship you to say thank you lord for your goodness for your love for your mercy for us and heavenly father we have been challenged this morning by your word help us lord to be for me to be for all of us lord to be people of integrity give us the courage lord and the boldness as we leave this place to share to share your love the message of salvation to everyone we meet forgive us lord for the times that we miss those opportunities but lord if the words don't come may we always live our life showing that we are people of integrity lord showing the love of jesus in our hearts in the way that we live so help us lord we pray and as we leave this place lord we ask that you go with us we realize lord that um the week ahead um we don't know what tomorrow's going to bring we really don't so lord we're asking that you go with us we realize that people are going for tests there are people in hospital people getting results heavenly father we just pray that they will call on you and we have been assured heavenly father that you have promised to never leave us nor forsake us so lord whatever the needs are of your people this week we pray that they will cry to you and they will trust in
