[Music] hi sweet friends welcome back today we're headed outside to clean and decorate our front porch for summer so we can enjoy the space all season long here's what our front porch currently looks like and if you remember we decorated the space together a few few months ago for Easter and at that time I didn't tackle any deep cleaning so today we first are going to dive straight into that as you can see there are lots of pesky cobwebs and many of the corners since I haven't deep cleaned the porch since last fall there's also lots of pollen buildup bird droppings even on the cushions and speaking of cushions here on the sofa we have some Paw brints from I don't know somebody named Anila our fur baby who is not supposed to be up there but obviously she has so first I'm going to remove all the cushion covers and get them going in the wash real quick if you are new here my name is Amy and welcome I'm so glad that you are stopping by I love to share all things decorating whether that be in seasonal decorating Series where I take you inside our home from room to room as I share my decorating ideas or in Decor shop with mees as we together browse what's new in many of our favorite stores so if any of that content sounds like something that you would enjoy watching I would love if you would consider subscribing I like to use this Bissell Pet Pro solution to keep our light cream cushions looking brand new year after year I just spot treat and scrub with a stiff Brussel brush throw them in the wash and surprisingly they come out as good as new off camera with the help of my sweet hubby Scott we removed the furniture and now I'm rolling up the last of the two rugs to take them down to our driveway so that I can power wash them and they can better dry out in the direct sunlight to power wash the rugs I'm using our truste sunjoe electric washer year after year we use it for our outdoor cleanings it does such a great job and it's also super user friendly especially when I'm able to use it now for the rugs I'm only using water but you may see a little sudsy residue and that must be from our past spot cleanings now both of these rugs as well as our furniture all came from Amazon and I'll do my best to link them along with anything else from today's video down in the description box for you just in case you're interested now that the rugs are nice and clean we can work on wiping down the furniture I think this is the third maybe the fourth summer that we've had this furniture and it really has held up nicely but last fall Scott did do amazing job at refreshing the wood it had gotten a little bit dull looking so he used a stain and clear coat to bring the wood back to life so in years past I've usually power washed it to get it clean but I don't think that's quite a great idea because it really does rough up your wood and I want to try to protect it a little bit better so I'm going to be using the method wood cleaner that I actually use indoors so I'm just going to spray it all down take a rag and quickly go over all the wood to remove any fallen or dust cobwebs that might be hiding in the corners and crevices so let's just pause and take a minute to appreciate how beautiful the weather is out today the sky is blue with very little clouds there's a slight breeze it is warm I think the high was around 80s but with that breeze it's just so refreshing and then just listen to the birge turke burping in the background The Greenery is so fresh and Lush it is just the perfect day to be outside and I'm just in a of God's creation I'd love to hear what your weather has been like now here in West Virginia we've actually noticed that the trees are a lot more Lush and green than in the past and my mom actually mentioned that this could be a sign that the winter to come is going to be unusually cold and snowy so for me fingers crossed I hope this is not the case but have you ever heard of this and is this the same in your neck of the woods moving back up to our front porch it's now time to tackle our siding the brick the ceilings and railings and as you can see here on our siding next to the front door we have some bug droppings dirt as well as some pollen buildup grabbing our power washer yet again this time I'm going to use a soap solution now I don't have an exact measurement but I like to use a little dish detergent and water the brand that I'm using and have on hand today is the Sam's Members Mark dish detergent but any would work first I'll use the pressure washer soap attachment to get it all nice and sudsy then I'll replace the nozzle with a pressured one and spray it all down to reveal a nice sparkly clean surface [Music] [Music] you might remember in a previous video I shared that we had some rust stains and hard water stains from some planters that I put out on our porch last summer many of you gave me some awesome options to try which I will be testing them out in a later video so stay tuned for that but today I'm trying once again to see if I can remove it with just the pressure washer but unfortunately it didn't work so off camera we clean the ceiling and railings and for any tough spots I did grab a magic eraser so you can definitely try that if you're having some areas that just won't budge anyway I'll finish off here by pressure washing the rest of the floor as well as the stairs that lead up to our front [Music] porch I love to share the cleaning process that goes into a makeover I think it's quite satisfying and I also think it's one of the cheapest and most impactful ways to really create a cozy welcoming space it doesn't cost a lot of money and it's just elbow grease and when you put a lot of Sweat Equity into your home you're going to have a lot more pride and love for your home no matter it's imperfection or downfall [Music] I like to wait till after Mother's Day Before decking our front porch out for summer for the most part the pollen is beginning to reduce and our temps are getting warmer at night so the flowers won't go through like a cold shock or they won't be subjected to a frost so kind of like that saying goes why shovel in a snowstorm what good is that that is exactly why I kind of wait that way I can get it all at once relax and enjoy it pretty much the rest of the season with just minor touch UPS so here I'm cleaning down our Windows getting it removed of all that that pollen and residue and I've shared this tip before what I like to do for our Windows to prevent streaks or at least know when to touch up your streaks is to go horizontal on the outside or vertical on the inside or vice versa that way when you look through you know which way the streaks are so that you can retouch the window and not waste a bunch of time going from one side to the other [Music] [Music] okay so now it's time to switch gears and we're going to take a break from the cleaning and head to our local Lowe's now they had tons of perennials and annuals lots of different bright vibrant colors this year I'm really drawn to the more colorful ones like fuchsia bright corals and oranges vibrant purples and pinks so with cart in hand I'm ready to load up the back of our trunk and head home so that I can share how I plan to mix these florals all together I picked up these butterfly hanging baskets from Jo-ann's they were 60% off in their spring Decor collection so they were such a great deal I just love the look of a Boston fern hanging above our rails on our front porch so that's what I'm going to be planting inside them now a tip that I do have for you is to take a large planter or bucket or something that you can place your basket inside and that way it's not going to tilt and it'll make leveling and adding your dirt around your plant so much easier [Music] next up let's work on the planter that will go right beside our front door if you remember we had put this Arrangement together for Easter minus the bunny rabbit but for summer I'm going to reuse the ceramic fluted planter that found from Michaels to the bottom of it I like to cut up the plastic pots that the plants originally came in and place them in the bottom of a larger planter this reduces both the waste and the amount of potting soil that you have to use I've done this method several years in a row and my plant seem to flourish and I really do think it helps with drainage as well [Music] [Music] I prefer to have full arrangements right from the start and I like to combine plants in different colors and Heights with a few cascading over the sides it's so fun to see them grow and change throughout the entire summer now that this planter is almost complete I absolutely love how it turned out I think it'll be an inviting focal point as you walk up to our front [Music] door next I'm going to add some flowers to this adorable planter that I found from TJ Maxx it's copper so you know me how could I pass this up and it was only $5.99 so what I'm going to do is go ahead and just plant up the same impatience in this Variety in both sides of the planter [Music] now that I hung and got the Boston Ferns in their place that wrapped up my Saturday and now it's actually Monday time to bring all the finishing touches together to complete the summer porch makeover once I wheeled the planter into place I was surprised to see that just even after a day the flowers seemed to be stronger and brightening up now it's time to add a front door mat and of course that's one of the easiest ways to brighten and change your space for each season now I did find this layering rug from Lowe I love the color it kind of brings out the urban bronze color in our front door and then I'm going to bring back in the welcome core mat that I picked up from Walmart I loved it scallop detail and just the white lettering I think it just feels super nice for summer as [Music] well siding hooks like these are such an awesome find I use them to dress up a wall of siding by hanging a unique wall art piece and you can use anything that fits your style and personality I'm going to be returning this metal Bird wall art that I picked up from Amazon I absolutely love it and I really think that it draws your eye up the stairs and then along the wall of boring siding it dresses it up and then brings you to our front door so I think it works for most of the seasons next I'm bringing in this porch board that says welcome it has some iron Det detail at the top and bottom and I found this piece at the store at home again it's one of those pieces that I can use over and over throughout the seasons and I think it complement the wall art on the adjacent wall very nicely I'm also going to add this Floral Pattern watering can that was from HomeGoods not only does it add a pop of color to this side but I can easily reach for it to water all the surrounding flowers you might remember this wreath from last year I got it from Amazon and used it last summer for our front porch makeover which I can link up here in a card and in the description if you'd like to go and take a peek and maybe even get more front porch inspiration I just didn't want to go out and buy a new wreath when this one looks amazing and it pretty much does look the same as it did right out of the box last year reusing old pieces from last year like this gives me the opportunity to buy some new pieces so I encourage you to do that as well this welcome plaque from the store at home will be the perfect addition to hang beneath our porch light now in a perfect world I would prefer this to hang 5 to 8 in lower but I'm not going to make another screw hole into our brick so sometimes I can't fret the small things and I have to remember that Perfection is the enemy of [Music] good now for my favorite part and that is adding all the coziness and I like to do that by adding in pillows and blankets so I'm going to grab the cushions and get them back on the furniture and then I'm going to bring in some pillows and blankets and that's really going to soften all the hard edges of the furniture so to the Rockers I'm adding this Chevron patterned black and cream blanket so it's going to refer back to the rug tying that into the space and since it's old I'm I'm not going to worry about it getting dirty I can always throw it in the wash to refresh it and then I did get these two new lumbar pillow covers and outdoor pillow inserts from Amazon so I'm excited to get them in place and see how they look on our rockers [Music] [Music] pretty much I'm doing the same thing over here as I did on the Rockers I'm adding an older blanket this one has a mustardy beige colored window pane stripe then I'm layering in some pillows the first one is from Joann's again it was 60% off in their spring line and then the checkered neutral pattern one came from the store at home I just really love mixing patterns and textures so that you get a little bit more of a collected designer [Music] look between the two windows I like to add my blanket ladder I think it gives your eye a place to move upward and gives the area some height and we've already wrapped some Garland around it during the springtime so I'm leaving that but I did move the license plate birdhouse down just a bit because I found a newer Floral Pattern one from the store at home that I wanted to display in its spot so a rule that designers like to use to achieve a cohesive and put together space is to repeat elements within your design at least three times so if remember I have used Birds three times in the metal wall art on the siding I've used them in our pillowcase and then now I'm repeating it in the bird houses now another item that I've tried to use three times throughout the space is the use of a metal so again that metal wall art I used it in the welcome sign that was beneath the porch light and now I'm going to use it in the decorative tablescape in the planter that we planted earlier so all these little details help to make an intentional looking space so the next time maybe you're struggling with something just not looking quite right try to step back and see if you're using a specific element at least three times within your space and see if that helps so the final items that I want to add today are a couple of lanterns on our stairs and that pretty much will wrap up today's decorating and cleaning here on our front porch for summer [Music] I hope that you have enjoyed watching and that it gave you some new inspiration or some cleaning motivation if you enjoyed today's video at all or found it helpful in any way I would appreciate a big thumbs up and don't forget to hit that subscribe button especially if you're still here with me at the end and haven't already I would love to have you back as always i' love to share a daily Bible verse as we end our time together so today I'll be reading from psalm 68: 19 and 20 praise be to the Lord to God our savior who daily Bears our burdens our God is a God who saves from The Sovereign Lord comes escape from Death I thank you so much for watching and I hope to see you real soon in my next one take care friends and God bless bye [Music]
