hi my name is Rafael Rafael and I'll be talking to you today about how to use our GIS for doing a suitability analysis the part 1 of our tutorial we're going to be working with the restriction model you can follow me at Lois iberica and my blog is techno Fuente blog spot.com now to follow this tutorial you're going to require ArcGIS 10 R to you and spatial analyst activated now the problem we have is we want to create a suitability raster for the location or waste disposal site we have proposed the following equation where we're saying that we want our suitability to be the sum of our weight criteria multiplied by the product of our restrictions in our equation s is our suitability for waste disposal WI is the weight for our criteria I CI is our criteria for the suitability and RJ is our restrictions now let's focus on the restriction model what we're going to do is when I expand our equation for only three restrictions we're going to work on restrictions for River streets and parts and what this means is we're going to have restrictions related to the locations of streets rivers and parks and this is going to create for our boolean raster layer that will represent the restriction to develop a waste disposal site now most restrictions include a minimum and maximum buffer zone we did some research and the literature suggests that for rivers you use between 300 and between 330 I'm sorry and 200 meters for streets between 100 and 300 meters and for parts within three hundred and three thousand meters now regularly you will probably do an analysis with minimum distance and maximum distance and see how viable these restriction zones are and then choose your analysis buffer distance we're not going to do this now because this is a tutorial and we're going to set we're going to choose our analysis buffer distance we chose four rivers 200 for streets 304 parks 1000 meters now what we're going to produce in this tutorial is a restriction raster which is a boolean raster boolean rasters pretty much pasture that contains just zeros and ones where 0 represents a restricted cell to develop a waste disposal site and 1 represents a cell viable to develop a voice disposal site now first things we're going to do is we're going to buffer our or feature classes based on the parameters we already had selected even look for proximity now drag and drop peer offer double click and buffer we're going to select streets and we're going to select on linear units 300 meters on the cell type all because we want all our streets to be dissolved together our purpose to be this all together I'm going to do apply ok I'm going to rename this to Street washer so capital week so consistent now my dragon breath again the buffer I'm going to create a buffer for our rivers we settle rivers we're going to be 200 meters we're going to choose as the solve type or one but then to apply okay I'm going to do this now we're going to rename this to two good rep offer we're going to drag and drop buffer again I'm going to select our parks we have parks and reserves for parks and research we had 1000 liters choose again this one ball to fly edge oh okay I say we're going to do is want to save on weight just in case something goes wrong as you can see as soon as I save my restriction model here the name changes next new renters want to remain here this that means call this park the next thing we're going to do is we're going to convert this to raster and use conversion tools to rest women the use of entry to raster and drag and drop this here and double-click and feature it to raster now I'm going to select this input R Street buffer our field will be object idea I'll say all it says we'll keep it as 90 ok not it's a little bit of swim near so you can see what we're doing now let's rename this to street rest then you shall feature to raster again don't click here select rivers offers you rename this to River Marceline so yeah so now we have our feature our buffer is converted to raster but the thing is when you convert to a raster but it still is whatever it's not part of the buffer will be converted into no data so now we have to change that and for that we're going to use the is no tool which is in spatial analyst - spatial analyst and it's no I think it's in logical is no yeah so it still is going to change whatever is no into once and whatever is not nodes into 0 so we're going to select our street our front apply when the drag-and-drop is no again double clicking and we're going to select our group of restriction River restriction fine now we're going to rename this to Reiter okay now with our parks it's a little bit different we have to go a little bit beyond converting this feature to raster we looks for a little bit why look at the size of our of our parks and reserves if we buffer it and then convert it to raster the extent would be around this area that you see here program moving as soon around this area so anything that's outside this area would be no data so the first thing we have to do is we have to make a union between our study area which is a polygon and our parks and this will give us the a polygon feature that will then convert into raster so now let's go back to bar now first thing we're going to do is we're going to do a union look at here it's an overlay analysis tools and double click on it and we're going to add our Park buffer and we're going to add our study area if you want to join all our tributes and to apply okay we're going to rename this to a park buffer with extent yeah now this now this we can convert now to a raster we been selected in conversion tools to rest wrap ensure to wrestle clock in here and double-click and feature bathroom and select our buffer with extent and to feel we're going to show that F ID of re after the ESL by a boom - so - oil in to apply now we're going to run this our going to rename first we're gonna rename this to our this would be our park offer okay now we're going to run this so I can show you a lot of the next step we're going to do so you can understand it remember this run close we're going to add our Park offers to our display and set em up on here so model soon today as you can see what's done is whatever was parks with buffer is now one and the rest of the extent is minus one so now we have to change this minus one to one and our current ones to zero we're going to do two using the contour this look for the clone tool which is in conditional special analyst drop here now we're going to double click on column and select just our Park buffer raster and an expression select value equals get uniques minus one okay now for our true raster one controller false want them to be set to see I'm okay and the layout so just be sure I'm going to I'm going to rename this to our restriction me call this a park restriction since this is a lot more complex I'm going to run this is check out it's doing okay close how did you display see some it's supposed to the correct now as you can see this areas ones and the Green is zeros which is the restriction so you're good to go now next thing we're going to do is going to multiply all our restrictions and for that we're going to do use our map algebra wrestler calculator when the drag-and-drop here multiplied our street restriction times our river restriction times our park restriction apply okay about a layout I'm going to rename this to a final restriction okay I'm gonna run this those actors playing see what a result as Santa's safe again let's change this to green now you can see whatever is black.here is zeros and it's restricted as you can see we should have added this area here is sea ocean so we probably should have clipped this area and created a restriction for ocean but for now we'll doing fine
