Street Food Tour during Diwali/Tihar in Nepal!

[Music] come along with us as we explore the sights sounds smells and flavors and hit that subscribe button while you're at it where aubry and danielle in 2016 we got married and decided that we love to take adventures not just vacations this year we went to nepal to hike everest base camp and we saved the best part for last a food tour in the streets of the capital city of kathmandu all right so we are finally getting to do one of my favorite things we're gonna eat some street food and we're here with the owners of revival nepal namaste namaste what's your name so we are now at the tamil and we're going to have a lot of the spicy street foods today so one place that was recommended to us is and the other one is just like butter it's so delicious you gotta finish every meal off with a hot cup of masala tea it is a staple here in nepal and it's really really good here so we just had all that food for less than five dollars u.s it was 480 [Music] [Applause] so i have no idea what just happened no idea if that was a cult or a some kind of a religious group but right now they're they're celebrating diwali which is this huge festival of lights and today they honor the dog so they were all dancing in the street and these girls just pulled us aside and they're like dance with us dancing yes so we danced and it was a lot of fun it was great [Music] basically curd and spices like this yeah yogurt yogurt oh it's yogurt that's really good like lemon cello lemon that was delicious such controlled chaos it's crazy i don't know what i'm doing all these other people seem so a lot said this is normally busy but this is like even busier because of the holiday diwali so everybody's out right now celebrating and it's just complete chaos [Music] was telling us that these little kids will dance and sing for hours in front of these storefronts and they basically want just a little bit of money and it's it's like halloween but way better because these kids are actually working really hard just to get like a little bit of a some cash they're banging on drums and playing flutes and trumpets and they go up to each storefront and ask for a little bit of an offering there is so much going on here i just my head's gonna explode but so basically we walked into this park market area and there are all these temples and because of the diwali holiday the goats behind me are actually there to be sacrificed so he said probably not today but some of these religions still actually sacrifice animals then we'll have to play in some space [Music] and you can never go wrong with mama that's right cheers cheers he's probably the best masala tea we're gonna have ever oh that is so good that's very very good yeah one of the best [Music] foreign so far two for two really good places that we would have never found on our own correct or this entire walk we would never would have done on our own this walk has been the most entertaining walk i've ever been on in my life lots to see lots to do and lots of cars to not get hit by so all the lights right now are all part of the diwali festival it's all about the festival of lights so everything's lit up the buildings the trees the stands it's awesome [Music] okay so we are going to start pani puri i don't know okay it's spicy just just take it and put it in there all right so what is this is flour this is a flour yeah this is [Music] waters it smells spicy it's put it in my mouth i can't control it it's spicy yeah it is a bit not hot oh it's spicy okay you yeah was that curry like a salsa verdict it's like all the good flavors it's crunchy it's savory it has is that potato yes potato what makes mostly potato and some spices ready you eat one read one go okay you see the stands everywhere and i've been wanting to try that for the last three weeks so it was really good i like yeah you like one of the dry ones i like them both the flavors changed when you didn't have the sauce on it however the dry i can't get more local than the one we just had so wait but here's another one oh that looks good let's try this [Music] this is highest vitamin c what is it this is a fruit this is a fruit oh man guys we call it amla what is um okay umbilical cord you just ate an umbilical cord i can't do it not aubrey do it i hate sour stuff gooseberry oh it's a gooseberry it's a gooseberry gooseberry super tart tastes like a very unrighteous medical card the spelling is like umbilical cord this is so it's not sweet at all it's very tart it tastes like the most unripened like i don't even know an unraping grape i'm going to try one more oh wow one more gooseberry pumpkin so that gooseberry uh was very tart but once you spit it out it makes your saliva tastes really sweet it makes your mouth simulate like before you're going to throw up it's made with the milk meat butter love that stuff tell me those two things is fine that's what it needs to be made this is barf one two three go what's happening dude you're gonna love it good creamy it is like a very very moist shortbread cookie you're going to be in heaven oh wow that is good wow wow this is uh oh that's a design yeah you would think it's like funnel cake you ever have funnel cake ready cheers cheers that's good too i like that a lot it tastes like cereal covered smothered and frosted yes very good that is good it's very good eat your own face oh i don't want to take it off momos and we are in the thick of the chaos the second you don't look a motorbike comes by and almost runs you over know that the ride will die i keep boiling know that the ride will die i keep boiling boys [Music] know that the ride will die would you say thank you number one local food in nepal yeah it's just it's the go-to food for everyone lunch dinner oh okay besides besides that yeah this looks a little bit better so their mouths are watering so what's inside of this vegetable buffalo oh yeah that's spicy spicy [Music] it smells very peanutty yeah oh wow that's good yes this one it's a bit so good it's like it's like sweet and salty and like almost vinegar tomato this is the best part of the movie you dip it in and this gives them like a different flavor the whole tour was amazing we're gonna wrap it up here though because it's been a lot of food a lot of places a lot of people a lot of scooters and it is time to retire for the
