finally a new video from Carsten hope he doesn't say anything stupid I hate this guy finally a new season of stranger things I've always had a soft spot for this series having been there since the beginning it's really cool to watch it grow into something I could have never expected it to turn into I've made two videos on it now and I don't see this being the last being that not only are there two seasons yet to come but it's also just so dang fun to talk about that's kind of what I want to say as a disclaimer I really love the show and despite what you might have gotten out of the title I still think it was a great season but just for fun I decided to go back and watch some episodes from the first season after finishing this latest one and I gotta say what happened again great season but I feel like I'm gonna be saying that a lot in this video compared to the first two this is easily the weakest in my opinion let's do a general review stranger things has been tracking this group of kids from Hawkins Indiana for a few years now is the upside down and some strange evil forces continue to wreak havoc the first season was very bare dealing with will buyers disappearing to the upside down a place in concept that was pretty mysterious at the time with some amazing performances great tension and captivating storytelling this first season proved that stranger things was something we were all gonna love before you know it or I mean a year later we got stranger things to here we know a bit more about the upside-down and will is back but he's not doing too hot this season delivered and proved that this show can be more than just a missing-child story it pretty much had all the great qualities of one book with a bigger budget and one shitty episode that we don't like to talk about now here we are at stranger things 3 more than a year later kids aren't really kids anymore there's Russians and this time Billy is in trouble in a sense that he's been possessed and there's something like that now despite what I said earlier this season is the best in a few ways the one we're not only dealing with more characters than ever but every character feels significant and is handled really well I got really big infinity war and endgame vibes from this because we're cutting back and forth between a bunch of groups of people who are all doing completely different things and eventually they all come together but the amount of weight this show had to carry I think it did so really well there was also a pretty big change which is these kids being teenagers now this could have been handled absolutely horribly but they really avoided any awkward adults trying to write about puberty moments and as for the technical aspects it doesn't take much to realize this is easily the best-looking season not only does the cinematography have more personality it just looks nice if colours shining in every shot and production does that is clearly the result of a bigger budget you can't deny the season looks phenomenal but like I said there are some major issues so let's get into them in one in two stranger things always felt like a few steps ahead of me I gotta say I never really felt that in any way with this season the plot was certainly mysterious and a little spooky and the way everything came together was pretty cool but I can't say I wasn't expecting any of it with season two it was really anybody's game in terms of who was gonna die they didn't build up anyone in particular in fact I wasn't thinking twice about Bob and then they killed him off and I was genuinely pretty shocked it was one of the craziest moments of the entire series with this one I was kind of expecting something big to happen to hopper they were building his character up since the beginning and it was clear he was acting his heart out in this season for a reason as soon as we got to that last episode while I was sad I was kind of like well yeah here's how I'll put it in the past seasons it was never the question of will this happen or will it not they lead us on with that question and then would introduce an entirely new idea that made us go okay yeah sure whereas with this one they gave the audience some possibilities and went from there like with Dustin and Susie the question was does she exist or does she not they decided she does and that was that why not get creative and have her play a bigger role in this that'll probably happen in the future seasons but come on her reveal could have been a lot more satisfying I feel like I'm the only person in the world on this page but here we go the acting wasn't bad in this season but geez did it lack in comparison to the others aside from chief hopper I wasn't really blown away by anybody in this season Billy was great but it felt like we didn't get nearly enough of him Billy Bobby Brown was the same as she always is just louder and while he seems like a cool guy Finny's mic just wasn't believable in any way this time around the heart of the show that brings out the best in everyone's performances has always been will played by Noah schnap he's phenomenal in 1 & 2 and it feels like we barely get any of him this season he's just a kid that wants to play D&D and touches the back of his neck a lot also Sadie sinks character max could have had way more to work with her brother is literally possessed and is the root of this entire problem if they can't do much with him at least do more with the conflicting morals she is probably dealing with here how was she not constantly freaking out and that's the thing I don't really blame any of the kid actors here they just feel like they were told to freak out and that was the extent of it I just wish they had a bit more to work with because the performances felt weirdly empty compared to the other seasons this is a bit vague kind of ties in to predictability but it was evident there was not as much effort put into three compared to previous seasons in the first season they had everything to prove because it was everyone's introduction to the show and the second they had to prove the story could be more and people had a reason to stick around and in three at this point we're tuning into the season no matter what so who cares there was something about that first season that was so fine-tuned and treated so fragile that made it the perfect eighth episode story that it ended up being every scene and every minute had something significant to add to the story with three it felt like everyone was on cruise control for the first three episodes or so there's nothing wrong with that watching these characters and seeing a series of clues slowly get laid out as entertaining nonetheless but what I loved so much about the first season is that episode one and three are completely different and represent very specific times in the season whereas you can take a scene from Episode one and three from this latest season and they feel like they could belong in the same episode I feel like that was kind of confusing but you get the point when season 1 ended I was hyped for season 2 when two ended I couldn't wait for three and when three ended I was like okay the season ends so weirdly again not badly just weirdly I had to double check there are two seasons after this because it seriously felt like the big finale I feel like the season gave me just enough to be sort of excited for a new season but at the end of the day they kind of implied that Hawkins is in the past after this and if the season didn't feel the same I can't imagine how the next is gonna feel and I get it shows are supposed to progress over time and get bigger they shouldn't feel the same every season that's why we keep caring and that's okay and fine by me as long as the show stays true to its roots stranger things has that sense of heart and Midwest feeling about it that made the original feel so intense but innocent the bigger these monsters and problems get the more they stray away from a sense of relatability we lose those quiet moments that feel like pure childhood fun like what is hopper being held captive by Russians now what's going on I feel like I got carried away but here's my point despite everything I've said I really enjoyed the season a bad season of stranger things is still a pretty fun way to spend eight hours it just feels like it came and went whereas those first two seasons specifically number one felt like such a specific time of my life I can re-watch season one over and over again and with this one it's like I don't know how much I'll be revisiting it I loved seeing the show progressing a crazier with each season but I just hope the duffer brothers continue to what's the word try anyways hope you guys enjoyed the video thank you so much for watching and I'll see you in the next one [Music] [Music]
