so what if I was to tell you that Lander the popular online mastering service has created a plug-in a plugin that gives you their powerful AI mastering tool in your doll where you're able to recall not only that but what if I was to tell you that now you'll be able to actually manipulate parameters such as EQ Dynamics saturation dsing and a bunch of other things adding that human touch to the AI that it gives you now let's check this out cuz I know that's really what you want to do you want to hear what it sounds like so let's do that right quick so let's listen to this mix with Outlander mastering plugin on don't worry we're going to check this whole thing out but just take a listen to this mix nothing on it either way I'm going to say you might be bad so tell me [Music] I'm [Music] wh so tell me if I'm wrong are you bad for me don't drag me along now I know what you may be saying and one thing I'll start with saying is that it sounded a lot more open it sounded huge of course and the low end as far as my kick and stuff like that I retained that I didn't feel like I lost a bunch of stuff in there I feel like I gained so much the second thing you're probably asking yourself is well I just heard a bunch of volume how do I truly know that it actually did something to the processing well let me show you that if we look at the plug-in there's a little button up here that says gain match so let's do a little test let's hit gain match and basically what this is going to do is this is going to allow us to hear what the plugin actually did without creating that loudness and matching it so that you can truly hear the essence of what it did at that same volume so let's check out what the plugin actually did so I hit bypass first and then I'll turn it on listen [Music] close so tell me if I'm you bad don't me are you bad for me tell me if I'm wrong are you [Music] so right there I can kind of hear what the plug-in manipulated I still feel like I got a lot of that openness out of course when it comes to mastering and comes to adding limiters and compression and things of that nature you're going to feel a little bit of a difference with that kick or that low end and I still feel like it's pretty tasteful as far as where I was and where it ended up giving me a lot of loudness so what I'm going to do is I'm going to show you this powerful AI mastering tool that I think is super super super easy to use being able to use Lander's famous AI algorithm now in our dogs and being able to manipulate it even more adding that human touch which is something that I uh as a user of Lander here and there wanted more of being that I'm in a professional setting I want to be able to tweak my masters not only just have it put in as far as the AI and give me whatever it decides to give me i' rather have a little bit more control over my music so I'm going to show you this plugin top to bottom and give you an idea of how I got to that result and I'd say about 3 minutes um and it seems really fun to use so I'm going to show you how it works oh my gosh are you like watching my video did you know you can comment like And subscribe okay don't skip okay don't skip okay back to your video I'm sorry let's get to it okay so first things first and I'm going to copy my settings because I kind of like my settings uh what I'm going to do is I'm going to take this off right and the way Lander works is let's open it right here and what it's going to do is it's going to actually analyze the actual audio so it's going to give me an actual depiction of what it feels is best for my audio off rip before I mess with any of the parameters or anything of that nature which is cool because now it is optimizing its processes very very dependent on my song so what I'm going to do is and what it suggests is it suggest for me to pick the loudest part of the song me knowing it's the chorus I know it's right here so I'm going to select the loudest part of my song and we're going to make this analyze watch your ears and check this out too either way so tell me [Music] I'm tell me if I'm you okay so Lander has given me a result and now what I'm going to do is I'm going to show you guys step by step as far as how I would go about it and show you this thing from top to bottom so first things first if you look right up here you'll see this input game knob and basically what this input game knob is doing is it's gain staging or making or optimizing your actual audio so sometimes you may get a master for instance that's loud uh and this is basically taking it and gain staging it or turning it down a bit feeling saying to itself hey this is the most optimal input for these processes that we're about to have uh occur within our plugin really nice to have and you can also manipulate that so if you feel as if you want more of that uh signal to hit those processes you can but this is the given range that they optimized it for so I highly suggest kind of just sticking around with what they give you as far as saying this is the best uh input for the processes that are going to go on so really nice to have just kind of being able to manipulate the input game but it does it automatically for you if if you use the automatic function next thing in this middle is you'll see this master button and basically what the master button does is as you can imagine goes back to waiting for audio playback going back to analyzing the audio basically if you make any tweaks to your mix say for instance if you felt as if when you're in this master stage you need to make some changes in your mix and come back and bring a new file in you can then reanalyze the master if things have changed if they've gotten louder quieter Etc super self-explanatory you get that button right there on the right hand side you see this game match function which I've showed you as far as being able to hear what the plugin is actually doing and not be fooled by just volume that's really important to do and to have on so that you can make better decisions when it comes to you making your master right hand side we have a bypass button which obviously turns off all effects in the plugin and now in the dead middle we have three mastering Styles and basically this will allow you to choose between your styles of mastering obviously I feel like Lander has mastered or been through thousands and thousands of songs they've analyzed so there is more than one way to go about a master so they giv you three styles that in my opinion they've figured could give you a more diverse palette of what you want as far as a mastering style is concerned so that's what these three are so if we look on the left- hand side and look at the warm side you'll see that it's named and it's worded as create a warm vintage Master with softer highs for a thick and smooth sound the balance section is to create a control Master with a focus on balance Clarity and depth to be honest this is my favorite one thus far as far as the kind of music that I do being at its R&B hip-hop kind of stuff and then on the right hand side you have create a modern open sound with an emphasis or a punch and presence in my head I'm hearing more of the EDM uh electronic style of music that I think this could be really really advantageous for so go through each style pick which one feels right for you and then make your decision remember go off of how it feels that's my Golden Rule with anything okay on the left hand side uh we have The Equalizer section and basically with this equalizer it's a three band you can affect the low you can affect the mid or you can affect the high something I really really want to emphasize on is one question that I did ask them was well what is the signal flow of the plug-in is one process feeding the next process feeding the next process Etc cuz a lot of times depending on how you move things if the EQ comes first with the compressor it sounds different H if it's swapped the other way what they've helped me understand is that each process is intertwined with the other meaning if I decide to boost the equalizer on the lows that's going to affect another process from the dynamic section that compensates for things so when it comes to the signal F the plugin I want you to think about it as everything is really intertwine with each other every move you make affects the other one from a standpoint of how their algorithm in AI works it's really really fun to use and you'll notice it because even when you crank the plugin a lot hot on a certain knob you realize something else feels like it just compensates for it and keeps everything in Balance so just a tidbit for you so like I said you got your equalizer section and it has the low mids and the highs you can manipulate the mids the highs or the lows whether you want to turn it down or turn it up self-explanatory you can kind of get that on the right hand side of that we have a present knob and basically what this present knob uh allows you to do is it pays attention or gives more of an emphasis to the vocal range so if you feel like sometimes when I mastered things I feel like sometimes if you have too much processing on you kind of can feel like your vocal may get lost or you feel like you just want more of that vocal presence in your actual Master well they figured out a way in their algorithm to take that presence of the vocal or that vocal range for whatever your music style is and push that up and bring more of that out with one simple knob bringing it Forward I know you want to hear it so let's take a listen to it let's take this present knob and let's boost it up so let's do that that you might be too much for me but either way I'm going to say you might be bad for me so tell me so you can hear that it added some presence to the actual vocal and it feels like it still kept everything in line for the most part now granted I just overdid it in that regard but you can kind of get an idea of if those vocals were lacking from a present standpoint that you can get some more out of them just by pulling that just a little bit forward really fun to use and really simple if you're looking to get more pop out of your vocal when the AI spits that out to you okay let's keep it going so after that we have a dser and basically what this dser allows you to do is DS the sound or the vocals or whatever you want in the mix kind of helps you get rid of any harshness that you're looking for one way that I've decided to use it was I've decided to actually take it find the spot crank the amount tremendously and then find that sweet spot of where I want to take some of that stuff out so let's put this at zero let's put this right here at 7500 and let's find those s's and T's that are bothering me or better yet any harshness that I'm looking at or hearing let's do that right now I'm going to take it crank the amount once I find it I'm going to back off until I feel like I've reached a sweet spot let's do that you might be too much for me either way I want to say you might be bad so tell me if I'm wrong are you bad for me don't drag me along are you bad for me tell me if I'm wrong are you that you might be too much for me but either way I'm going to say you might be bad for me so tell me so it helped to smooth out those s's and T's I kind of found found it at like that 8100 Hertz range it kind of helped me just kind of get rid of those Essence and te's and smoothed it out and even with it cranked super hard you can kind of see that it compensated for that it didn't feel like oh it's ripping everything out of the vocal uh from that standpoint so like I said you can be heavy-handed from that regard if you wanted to and not feel like you're just doing too much within the sound um don't be afraid of this and those knobs is the way I've been feeling about it okay now let's go on to this bottom left hand corner and in this bottom left hand corner is the stereo field and basically what the stereo field allows you to do is decide if you want to enhance the stereo field or widen the mix and giving it a bigger overall sense of space as it is worded or if you want to move it more to the left for the focus side and make those Center uh elements feel a little bit more forward I.E bass vocals kick if you want those to feel more present and more upfront as far as your mix is concerned you can actually pull it more to the focus side to kind of bring those elements out and obviously if you want to make it feel a little bit a little bit bigger wider and enhance the stereo feel you can move it more to the right let's check it out though let's see how it sounds so let's move it way and exaggerate it over to the right side and then let's exaggerate it over to the left side check this out that you might be too much for me but either way I want to say you might be bad for me so tell me if I'm wrong are you bad for me don't drag me alone are you bad for me tell me if I'm wrong are you it's very very subtle but I can feel it and that's what I like in the mastering phase is to feel things um and see if I can make it feel better and if I want to listen to it over and over again and that's really what I was looking for so opening the mix up and enhancing the width of it really made it feel a little bit more fun and open and from my speaker standpoint it really sounded really cool just kind of opening the mix now granted this mix happens to be very center focused already so just being able to kind of just enhance the stereo feel just added to the essence of what the record was right there let's keep it going okay so now we're moving on over to our compression settings and when you look at this Dynamic section in totality you can see that we have a compression knob and basically if you take it and move it more to the left you're getting less compression and if you move it more to the right you're getting more compression let's take a listen to what that sounds like let's put it all the way to the left and crank it all the way to the [Music] righto so tell me if I'm wrong are you bad for me don't drag me along are you bad for me tell me if I'm wrong so you can hear that when I move it a lot more to the right that you get this tighter sound it kind of glues things together it makes it really really tight sounding and then when I move it more to the left hand side obviously I'm letting go of some of that compression this is really cool just to have in one knob kind of manipulate my song depending on the Sound Source now to add to this really make you understand how you can add the human touch to that compression is basically you can come on over here to this character knob and with this character knob allows you to do is choose the type or style of that compressor so basically you can go from the left which is a punchier sound to the right which is a smoother sound in the back of my mind it feels like a manipulation of attack and release times whereas the left hand side is going to give me something faster that's going to sound punch here and on the right hand side is something a lot smoother if I feel like I just want to kind of make things a lot more Tighter and keep things in control um more so you could choose the style of the compression that fits your stone but you can literally just take the knob see which one feels better if you want something that feels punchier just know go left if you want something that feels smoother go right simple all right let's put those back now this knob I thought was so interesting because it's really hard in my opinion to create one button saturation knobs but I feel like they did a really really good job and and made this actually a lot more fun in that regard because the type of saturation that it's adding is not the typical one that I hear in a lot of other saturation plugins in particular this saturation plugin kind of gives me a tube Transformer style of saturation which in my opinion when I crank this knob it feels warmer not so much giving me that top highend that sometimes if you put too much you completely destroy the mix and make it harsh this saturation makes it feel thicker that more analog sound it kind of reminds me of tape where it kind of gives you more of that low-end girth and weight out of the sound but also allowing to give you those smooth highs that don't feel so digital and so Breaky in the top end I know that's not a word but that's what I use when it comes to describing brittleness all right so let's check out this saturation knob let's crank it and see what it feels like you might be too much for me but either way I'm going to say you might be bad for me so tell me if I'm wrong are you bad for me don't drag me along are you bad for [Music] me so I immediately heard my 808 uh in the excuse me my Baseline in my sub get a little thicker and girthier and I also felt this warmth if that makes any sense Without Really affecting so much of that top top end that I am liking and it's pleasing to me as of right now it kind of just added that weight in body that I wanted adding harmonics to the signal like a tube or Transformer Without Really disrupting and destroying the entire mix it just gave me a little more and that's what I'm looking for a lot of times in mastering just a little more so I'm going to show you this very last knob and this is the knob that is I guess you could say the knob probably every one staring at how I can get more loudness out of my sound so long story short this is the loudness knob and you can look at it like a limiter but it doesn't work in that way traditionally as I was told it's not kind of like taking the threshold of a limiter and just cranking it down this is an AI mastering tool and even with this loudness knob it has its own special parameters listening to your song of how they decide to achieve that loudness so with that being said said you have a integrated lust meter here and I need to be very clear and let you know that it's integrated it's it's a longterm so it's the average of the entire song it's not a short-term meter it's a long-term meter so this is telling me the overall loudness of the entire song not just a moment or a couple seconds that's very important to say just in case someone wanted to know that so let's go to the amount and let's crank it and let's see what we get out of it as we crank it you might be too much for me but either way I'm going to say you might be bad for me so tell me if I'm wrong or you bad for me don't drag me along are you bad for [Music] me so you can hear that even as I crank the loudness knob and you're it's still tasteful as I go and push it more and more it kind of has like this fail safe inside of the AI That's like hey this song is going to be completely destroyed so it kind of compensates for those moves and you notice that as I was tur it up even so it wasn't breaking and falling apart also it wasn't allowing you to go that loud because it probably would sound like crap to be honest with you and so there's kind of like this fail safe within the AI of its algorithm of course they've mastered thousands and thousands of songs it's analyzed yours and decided that this is probably the as we can get this song being of the sonics that it is right there so I got to those results as far as messing around with this very imperfect mix by the way in minutes it was fun to use super easy I was in control I had the help of the AI which is the future and we all know AI is here to St and we're using this to make our music these days but the fact that I was able to actually add the human touch on top of the AI really means a lot to me and really really gives me that functionality is as far as being able to add what I like out of what it thinks it is best so I really hope you guys enjoyed this breakdown of the Lander mastering plug-in it's awesome I really really really really like it um I think that this is going to help a lot of people that are new to mastering as well as people that are seasoned or more seasoned to help get you a better starter point for instance there's plenty of times I know I'm guilty of this where I've thrown something into Lander just to hear what it kind of thinks uh it should be at and I try to beat it or I try to uh go head-to-head with it well now that I have it in my actual toolbox in my doll I can take the ACT what it actually gives me and just improve upon it I can literally add my other plugins to it kind of find my mix uh with everything but it is nice to have something that has analyzed thousands and thousands of songs kind of analyze my song and give me a ballpark of where it is sometimes it knocks it out the park and to be honest I need to do more testing on it to really really put this thing to work and see what it can really do but thus far I'm very excited about it I think it sounds pretty cool and I think that where it could end up uh as far as my masters and stuff like that could ultimately put me in a better spot when it comes to making decisions and things of that nature just giving me an alternate uh sound it's kind of like having a mixing a mastering engineer Right By My Side like how would you master it and going okay I like what you did and kind of tweaking those parameters so I really hope you guys enjoyed that please let me know what you feel about it in the comments I'd really appreciate it make sure you comment like And subscribe also you
