it's time to boycott niches focusing on a niche for your Etsy Shop might actually kill your shop I've seen this happen over and over again in this video I'm going to explain why picking a niche is one of the worst things you can do for your Etsy shop and I'm going to give you two things to focus on instead of niches I'm sure you've seen all these YouTube videos about picking a winning Niche and that being the key to your success on Etsy you hear all the YouTube gurus talk about niching down and I personally cannot stand that because I think that that can actually drive your Etsy Shop into the ground some of these videos make you think that if you just pick a niche you'll get sales if you pick a niche you will convert people but this is so off based and I cannot wait to teach you the alternative if you're new here welcome back to my channel my name is Dylan Jaris and I'm an Etsy seller of over 7 years I've sold over $1.5 million in revenue on the platform that's over a million dollar in actual profit my entire background is Corporate e-commerce I worked for big companies like zapo and zily and I climbed the corporate ladder before coming on to Etsy and now I sell on Etsy Amazon and Shopify in the last 12 months I've actually taught over 1,400 Etsy sellers just like you how to scale their businesses in a consistent and high Revenue way okay niches what is the big problem with picking a niche well first of all I think picking a niche is kind of the lazy way out and it's also very shortsighted the reason why is because picking a niche does not guarantee that there are profitable customers behind that Niche so there's no guarantee that the people shopping within that Niche are consistent with their spending habits and I actually think that picking a niche will limit your potential growth on Etsy by at least 90% now I know that is a bold statement but I firmly believe that especially after working with over 1,400 Etsy sellers in the last year and the reason I think it will limit your opportunity for growth is because it pigeon holes your business it backs you into a corner and it forces you into a lane that prevents you from seeking other opportunities within that shop and it forces you to think that you then need to create other shops to serve other niches and once you start getting into that cycle of one Niche one shop you end up with like four or five shops all serving different niches none of which are actual profitable customers you might end up with a teacher shop a nurse shop a mindset shop a fitness shop and maybe a pet themed shop and you'll have all of these Niche shops none of which are working for you I've seen this happen time time again and ultimately my goal with you guys is to really help you save time and make more money picking a niche is not the path that I would recommend so when I am working with an Etsy seller we are very focused on reverse engineering your goals so everyone who comes to me is focused on high income and consistency those two things and it's much easier to have high income and consistency when you sell to people who have high income and who are consistent in their spending habits so if you want High income and consistency find the people who have high income and consistency to sell to it's so simple but people aren't talking about this I recently had a conversation with one of my students that now does high volume she started with me last January and at that time she had a print on demand shop that wasn't really seeing much traction I think it took her about 6 months to get around 250 sales and I had a conversation with her 6 months after working with me she very much had a niche and it was kind of the mental health kind of motivation type of Niche but after going through my program she shared with me that now she is anti- Niche and she actually contributes that to a lot of her success and we talked about the alternative to picking a niche right because picking a niche is the easy way out you know you think of a theme and you stick with that you think of you know nurses everything for nurses you think of teachers everything for teachers I'm sure you've seen all these YouTube videos where it's like the top 10 most profitable niches right and trending niches my favorite um we talked about the alternative to that because people are intimidated from going outside that Niche path because it's the easy way out it's the natural fit it's it makes sense in your mind you can stick within a theme right that's easy enough to do so how do we make this easier without encouraging people to do the General Store model because you might be thinking if you're not going to pick a niche well then you have to do a general store don't worry you do not have to do a general store or what I like to call the flea market store you don't have to do that actually I recommend not doing that it's not going to be the key to building High income and consistency and it's definitely not the way to Target profitable customers who value their time more than money because profitable customers they're not going to take the time to sift through a general store to find the gems that they might be interested in I mean when you really think about it premium profitable customers who truly value their time more than money they hardly even shop sale racks right that alone is even too much sifting instead they go to the front of the store where the new designs the new aesthetic the new style is laid out and put together and packaged and positioned in a clear concise way and it's put together for them these are the people who will look at a mannequin and say I'll take that outfit that's who we want to sell to we don't want you know to sell to Suzy who goes to Bargain Basement so and so every weekend and spends 4 hours digging through piles of clothes right we want to sell to those people who value their time more than money they're willing to pay extra for consistency for service for quality so General Stores don't typically appeal to them so now you're thinking okay I can't do a niche I can't do a general store then how do I know what to sell and this is where I'm going to share the winning combination so the two things we are really focused on are profitable customers and aesthetic those two things not one or the other but both of them together that is the winning combination so we're focused on serving many different types of profitable customers within the same shop who are all interested in the same aesthetic so this is a game Cher for my students and I am not kidding when I say that this has allowed them to go from things like $900 in Revenue in a month to over $21,000 in Revenue the next month I'm not even kidding that's why I'm showing you a screen recording here the power of doing this is no joke that's the winning combination but how do we do this number one is the profitable customer piece these people profitable customers they value their time more than money they have higher discretionary income maybe they have secure stable jobs maybe they're involved in expensive Hobbies or activities maybe they are attracted to expensive Brands right so pay attention to the aesthetic that those expensive brands have so we're looking at a mix of these customers we are not just picking careers that make a lot of money focusing on Career shops that can be a very surface level way to approach this because if we're just thinking about people who have high-paying careers well what about trust fund babies right what about them so can't we serve them too and maybe they don't even have jobs but they have a lot of money that's something where we don't want to pigeon hole ourselves again into a career only Niche we can serve many different types of career people and people with a lot of money who don't even have a career in the same shop but we want to focus on selling to people whose spending habits are very consistent so then our income is very consistent and then when you see the economy up and down and other people on Etsy Forum saying oh the summer is terrible my sales are down 60% over last year we've all seen it and heard you will find that your income is actually very steady and even increasing during that time so that's profitable customers now aesthetic this is something that a lot of people struggle with the thing is it's not up to you to come up with the aesthetic take the pressure off yourself right now you do not need to come up with this premium aesthetic because there are Brands who do all the market research and spend all the money in that R&D to really identify what it takes to have a premium aesthetic learn from them don't try to reinvent the wheel so we really want to have a very attractive aesthetic that doesn't necessarily mean trendy but it means attractive and I recommend aligning it with people who have expensive taste so what is that expensive taste what is that Vibe what are the colors what are the materials what is The Branding like for them we're having a cohesive shop serving many types of people and what do I mean by cohesive I'm talking about colors Hues tones materials you know presentation site merchandising and the overall Vibe but it's not up to you to create a unique Vibe you don't have to create a unique Vibe you just have to do it better than the competition and honestly most people are focused on niches versus aesthetic and that's why it's not that difficult to do and this combination profitable customers plus an attractive cohesive aesthetic this is how you target multiple customers in the same shop and have consistent growing Revenue so I have a group of students that have recently scaled to 20K plus months coming in with less than $11,000 a month in sales when they started and this is the common theme the people I've helped get to 20K plus months within 6 months of time all have done this this is the approach they've all taken so I did this and I found my success of over $1.5 million in Revenue over a million dollar in profit by doing just this but it's not just my success in I'm saying this worked for me now you do it too but I have over 1,400 Etsy sellers who I'm helping do just this and that's a pretty big sample size to see what's working and this is exactly how you can build in huge increases to your shop while other shops on Etsy are seeing huge decreases now if you are interested in learning how to take what you have and shape it into this reach out because it's not about starting from scratch both of these people who I referenced who got to 20K plus months very rapidly doing this neither of them started with new shops they took what they had and they reshaped it and molded it to fit this strategy so we can most likely take your current shop and shape it with this strategy so if you'd like to learn how to do this just reach out schedule a call with us and we'd like to look at your shop see what we have to work with and then formulate a plan of how to help you do the exact same thing all right if you like the video please subscribe to the channel leave a comment below if you feel like your shop has a really premium aesthetic or if your shop does not have a premium aesthetic I love to hear where you feel like your shop Falls all right I'll see you guys in the next
