buying a new AC system could be a headache for a lot of different reasons one of the biggest ones is Brands you have all these different contractors telling you which brand is the best and why you should be buying their brand but which one should you go with and which one should you stay away from hi this is Kenneth with Atlas AC and in this video we are going to be covering the topic of Brands and hopefully be able to shed some light on which brands to consider and maybe even which brands to stay away from if you find this video to be helpful at any point during this video would you please hit the like button that will really help me out with the YouTube algorithms just a quick disclaimer we're located in the San Antonio Austin and Dallas area that means we deal with humidity very hot summers and Mild Winters so if you end up being in a climate where it's the inverse where you have very harsh winners but mild Summers then the pros and cons might be a little bit different for you and just to shoot straight with everyone our primary brand that we sell to residential homeowners and businesses is carrier and our second brand that we also sell is good men that we primarily sell into multi-family and property management groups to keep things simple there are six major companies that own the majority of brands in the United States what makes this all so confusing is these six parent companies all own multiple Brands underneath them totaling up to more than 28 different brands so the six major companies that provide the majority of HVAC equipment in the United States is Carrier Global Corporation train Technologies Daikin Industries Linux International Rheem manufacturing and Johnson Controls so the first company that we're going to look at is Carrier Global and then I'm going to explain their brands internally and how they use their brands and what this is going to do is it's going to shed light on the entire HVAC industry so whenever you deal with any of these big six companies you're going to have a really good idea on how to navigate inside that company in order to pick either the best brand that they offer or even the most cost effective brand that they offer I'm also going to rank each one of these brands from the premium line to the middle of the road line to the budget friendly line and then closer to the end of the video I'm going to give you my top picks so you are going to want to watch this to the end so carrier has a total of nine brands that they sell so they sell carrier Bryant Payne Comfort maker Tempstar day and night Heil Arco air and keep right you can see why this topic gets so confusing so quickly because what the heck's going on so a common practice in the HVAC industry is when a manufacturer wants to increase their market shares what they do is they'll go buy up other manufacturers then after the purchase of the other manufacturers they will hold on to those Brands because those brands are already entrenched in areas that they're wanting to expand into for example I've been told by other HVAC experts that have been in this field forever that carrier merged with Bryant in pain in the 1950s and the reason why they did this was Bryant had such a strong foothold up north because they just had Superior furnaces carrier wanted to take some of that market shares but not only that they also wanted to to incorporate that technology into the carrier brand as well and to this day the difference in between carrier and Bryant is arguably nothing they come off of the exact same assembly line just with different labels and boxes so you might be asking why have two Brands if they're the same thing why not just consolidate them down just to have one brand to make things simpler so down here in Texas I see largely carrier being sold now Brian's around but it's not that common of a brand down here however there is regions in the U.S that sell a lot of Bryants and that's because the contractors sell Bryant so you got the Distributors that are pushing Bryant there could have been past deals that were made you know so it's just a lot easier to to not kill that brand and just keep it going so they're doing their best to not rock the boat so you might be asking what about pain you said that they also merged in the 50s is their technology different so pain was branded more of a budget-friendly option in their HVAC lineup so they target going after people that are looking for a good deal along with Builders who construct a lot of homes each year there are a few differences in between the carrier Bryant versus Payne lineup just to help make it a little bit more budget friendly like the hell guard is a little bit different and you can tell it's probably a little bit cheaper and a couple other minor things like that to help get the cost down however the core technology behind these systems are all going to be about the same that's why pain is still a very reliable system and I don't really have much to complain about them so you might be asking now what about the other six brands that we haven't covered yet so in 1999 carrier Global purchased another company and this company was ICP and that stands for international comfort products so ICP operates underneath carrier Global and ICP also manufactures six different brands and those six different brands are Comfortmaker temp star day and night Heil Arco air and keep right so the reason why they have so many Brands it's just the same story that Carrie and Bryant did is ICP was just acquiring different menu factors and then putting them all under one umbrella so now you're probably asking well what the heck's the difference in between these six Brands now the answer is going to sound very familiar but it's arguably nothing is different so I would put these six Brands closer to the pain brand if not a little bit better but at the same time it's not going to be a carrier or Brian's so now we were able to turn nine Brands into three brands that we're considering so we have Carrie or Brian acting as one brand pain acting as another and then all the other brands falling under the ICP arm so if you're looking to go with a premier brand I would be looking at carrier Bryant if you're looking for something more middle of the road I would be looking at the brands that fall under the ICP arm and the most budget friendly is most likely going to end up being pain first glance it appears that there's a lot of different brands out there that's confusing the situation but in reality there's only a handful so if I was going to pick a brand Under the carrier Global lineup what I would consider later is which brands is most prevalent in my area for example if I wanted to pick a premium lineup I would ask the question is Carrier more prevalent in my area or Bryant and whichever one of those two is more prevalent I would go with that brand so one of the easiest ways to help identify how to pick the right brand is to go back to the big six companies and then look and see which brands are the premier lines which ones are their middle of the road systems and which ones are their budget friendly systems now I'm going to go through the other top five big guys however I'm going to go quite a bit faster by not boring you with a long explanation getting to which one's Premiere which one's middle of the road and which one's budget friendly all I'm going to do is classify it in those three categories and then just to help keep this video short then I'm going to cover the brands that I personally wouldn't purchase and then the brands that would be my top picks next up we're going to look at train Technologies and train Technologies offers five different brands and each one of those Brands is train American Standard Ameristar auxbox and run true so their Premier lines are going to be trained in American Standard much like carrier and Bryant when it comes to Ameristar and auxbox both of those brands are going to be your budget friendly most cost effective Brands you know what we would consider to be Builders grade now when it comes to the Run true brand I am just not familiar with that one I had to do a little bit of digging just to figure out what's going on here so it looks like run true was founded by train in 2019 and I don't know what their plans are for it just yet but it looks and smells like a builder grade system to me because they don't offer anything more than 14 and 16 Seer on their website so that's pretty much typical of a builder grade system but I'm just being honest I'm not entirely sure what train is trying to do with this brand so they might want to turn this one into their middle of the road line I am not entirely sure the next one up we have Daikin Industries and they offer three brands the first one being Daikin the next one Amana then Goodman so Daikin is going to be their Premiere line and they've been pushing really really hard to separate Amana from the Goodman line and turn the Amana into their middle of the road line and then lastly we got good men which is considered to be their economic line or their Builders grade line next up we have Linux International and Linux International offers five different brands the first one being Linux then after that Armstrong long air then Concord Duncan lastly airflow so Linux is the Premier brand out of the five so Armstrong Concord and Duncan are not very common in my area so whatever I tell you on these three brands please take it with a grain of salt I can tell you one thing Armstrong is definitely not a low end brand after reviewing Armstrong I can't really tell if Linux was trying to make one of those relationships like carrier and Bryant or if they were trying to make it a middle of the road system so for now we're just going to put it in between their premium brand and middle of the road brand next up we got the Concord and Duncan lines and both of these again I am not familiar with so after reviewing these lines they appear to have identical specifications so I'm assuming that they're identical Brands since they only offer three options in Seer ratings I'm assuming that they're going to be more of your Builder's grade or budget friendly systems however since I'm not familiar with them at all we're going to just go ahead and stick them in between middle of the road and and Builders grade budget friendly and lastly we have airflow and this one I am familiar with and it is considered more of a budget-friendly slash Builder's grade HVAC system and next up we have Rheem manufacturing and they offer two Brands the first one being ream and the next one being rude and I would consider both of these systems to be pretty much identical and I would consider both of these Brands more of a middle of the road AC system and finally we come to Johnson Controls and they offer three different brands the first one being York then Coleman then Luxair just like root and ream these three brands are very similar to each other I would also put all three of these brands in the middle of the road as well and there you have it all the brands for Carrier Global train Technologies Daikin Industries Linux International remanufacturing and Johnson Controls now on to the brand that I would not purchase keep in mind that this is a personal opinion along with what I see in the field in my service area so it might not be true in your area so the brand that I would not install at my house would be a Linux system and the reason for this is for the last decade they've been riddled with quality control problems on their HVAC systems some of these issues were big enough to bring a class action lawsuit against them we also replace a handful of brand new Linux systems each year so there's so many repair problems with them even though there's a parts warranty still the homeowner is just done with it to the point they're willing to bite the bullet and replace it with a different HVAC system and we don't see this with any other brand on this list however I do think that Linux is back on the up and up and and has fixed a lot of their QC problems but only time will tell now to cover the brands that I would put in my house so if we start off with the premium Brands the two that I would consider in my service area would be carrier or a train system and the reason for that is the top brands in the market today is going to be carrier Bryant or train in American Standard however the reason why I'd pick a carrier over a Bryant in my service area is carrier just has a bigger presence that means it's going to be easier to get equipment and service these systems and that is also true for the train American Standard lineup train just has a stronger presence here however on the flip side if I had a contractor that I really enjoyed working with and they sold Bryant or American Standard I would really also consider those Brands as well if that was the case so somebody was twisting my arm and price was not an issue and you made me decide to meet between carrier or train I would most likely pick the carrier and the reason why is probably just due to our service area but when we hire new techs sometimes they can get turned around on a train and then it would require a senior Tech to go look over their work or something along those lines however we don't see that as much with a carrier so what that means in my service area is Carrier ends up being a little bit more Universal allowing just about any company to work on them however when it comes to train you almost need to go with a train dealer now if I was looking at a middle of the road system there's a lot more options here for instance I would consider anything in the ICP lineup in my service area Comfort maker and day and night have the stronger footholds so I would probably be considering one of those two Brands next Amana is still a pretty good brand so I would also put that on my list and lastly I would consider the reem rude lineup as well in my decide fighting Factor on which of these Brands I would go with would most likely Fall on the contractor and which one that I wanted to work with and for the budget friendly option I would most likely go with either the pain or Goodman Brands and again the deciding factor would land on the contractor if you enjoyed this video you might want to check out my next one that covers a topic of how much does each one of these Brands cost to install a new system until next time have a good one
