[Music] good afternoon stitch roadies thank you for stopping by i really enjoyed the company and i've been fairly busy well kind of all over the board but you know i have an agenda so i've been working hard um i did get distracted uh quite a bit by barb lost in floss yeah when she got me hooked on the prairie schooler santas i'd never done one before and you know i love her and she said let's do a sal and as a community we all kind of jumped on board and then i loved it i mean i loved stitching it and i think part of it was because it was small but that small does not necessarily mean easy i mean it wasn't really hard but it was a lot of changes and a lot of detail that's what gives them the charm and so i jumped on board with that and um got distracted from my whole rhythm of my stitching it's been uh somewhat well i don't know when my life is not just a bit chaotic you know i i think um i think that's just how i roll uh so what have you been up to what do you do to zen you know it's like i had this thought this last week and i thought oh maybe i just need some therapy maybe i need to just unload a whole bunch of past history and and you know i mean years ago when i used to go to a therapist it was like awesome i mean it is awesome the only thing that wasn't awesome about it was the cost you know but but the process of it well let me just say there were times that it was a real struggle because to open your wounds in your heart takes bravery and that isn't always easy but the awesome part is you're paying this person to just listen to you you know and they've got tools for you and you work through it but i'm telling you what do we do at our age there isn't a whole lot you have you know what our therapy is all of you all of you that is how we at our age get therapy because all the therapists are retired that would truly get what we're dealing with that would truly get how disconcerting it is when you suddenly can't remember something that was so easy or you're reliving you know you've got your you worry about your children and your grandchildren and your aging life and what are you going to do well what 40 year old therapist is gonna get it yeah they can be they can be supportive and and listen but it's kind of like i remember thinking that um why would one go to marriage counseling to a priest you know although now there are catholic priests that are married because i remember in bend there was a priest that his wife passed away and he was a grandfather and a father now see that's a priest i would go talk to but would a priest who's never married and who's never stayed up 24 hours worrying about a kid who's never had that type of experience be able to really get you maybe i don't know but all i could think about was at our age we are so dependent on each other because to go to a a therapist is like wow they're in middle age or um you know they're trying to juggle home and family and get kids through college and those kind of things that they would really get a lot about that but not about maybe you know some things you don't get it's like some things that i wish i could grab the words back that i said to my mother are now haunting me because i think oh god shall she just put up with me my sanctimonious know-it-all 40-year-old telling her how to live her life and what she should do it's just ridiculous when it comes back to haunting you isn't it oh so i decided this week that really at my age my therapists are my girlfriends my stitchy friends you know many of them are my age the ones that are younger we can be supportive of because we know but the 40 year old is still the 40 and 50 year old the 50 year old that's working towards that you know their retirement or or the 40 year olds that are um trying to um you know what's best for their children and this changing changing challenging world yeah oh i've been thinking lots i have i've been thinking lots and thank goodness for stitching thank goodness for stitching so how have i been distracted i've been finding patterns that were for free i mean what the heck yeah it's not that i don't have enough things to stitch but when i bought that um quilt magazine that had this woman susan ach achi not quite how sure how to pronounce it it's a-c-h-e and um i just uh looked at that uh article and she had lots of it was in a quilt magazine but behind her were these displays of cross stitch in such a lovely cheerful way and then when i was reading the article it said that she puts um there's free patterns on the aurifil site aurophil thread so i went and looked and i was like oh she designed these so i printed out several of them so i'll show them to you okay so these are all free on the rfl site little quaker halloween and don't we just love quaker because it's um you know each motif is an accomplishment each motif look at this one kindness matters now naturally they want you they give you the orophil numbers for the floss but you could really do it in whatever you wanted but i have to say i have i used the horophil floss for um for this this project from fat quarter shop that i put on my yazzie bag and i liked it it was a totally different feel but and it was on a spool which is awesome but i enjoyed it so i might invest in some more um orophil so let's see little quaker christmas yeah i need more patterns don't i i mean i just went crazy little irish blessing how cute is that may your troubles be less and your blessings be more and nothing but happiness come through your door i'm gonna do that leave it up year round little quaker abc oh my gosh and that these were all free downloadable pdfs and then this one i just loved it's in three parts but um it's called love letters love letters it's like a band sampler and since i was already using up all the ink in my my um printer see that's what i'm talking about i almost couldn't remember that word printer yeah because the ink was almost out i went to tiny modernist because i do love everything tiny modernist and i found this since i have a canadian daughter-in-law [Applause] and then there were two others that and these are free on the tiny modernist site there is always time for tea and coffee is always a good idea yeah yep i know i know it it's uh it kind of grabs us doesn't it and um yeah it just kind of grabs us so back to barb and lost and floss you know i said my um enabling enabling is my superpower but uh i have to say i am being enabled as much as i am enabling so when i finished my very first prairie schooler santa and i was doing the hashtag 2021 prairie schoolers santa ps santa cell i finished it i ffo'd it isn't it adorable now when i did this i decided that i wasn't going to put any trim around it because it has that primitive look old look to it so i kind of like the plane better than putting some bufo around it but i mean really look at that look at that little raccoon in that owl is that not amazing so what i found out was um actually a tip or a tool that i am going to do from now on to help me ffo things is that as soon as i because my process for ff owing is that i use a pellon sf-101 fusible it's fusible on one side it's a very lightweight fusible i fuse a piece of that on the back of my stitchery it just kind of gives it a little of integrity and it gets the threads all kind of down tight and then i also if i'm making a pillow out of it i also fuse that sf101 on the back of my cotton fabric or my wool and that's to make it sturdy like the front i found that when i had some projects done that if i went into my sewing room and i picked out fabric because boy do i have fabric and picked out a backing piece for it and immediately cut it to size and fused that sf-101 i was more likely to actually the next time i went in there it doesn't take 15 minutes to sew it and stuff it into a small pillow and so i think i'm going to keep doing that is that when i'm ready to uh possibly ffo something i'm going to prep it all ahead of time so i picked this nice christmas fabric out and i had it all ready to go and so i i did it well now that i have prairie school or santa on the brain i went into my stash and found out that i had two or three others that i had accumulated and i immediately it's like you have to have i mean there's some kind of rule out there i know the universe goes in a certain way but um that you always have to have a prairie school or santa in process you don't have to stitch it every day but you have to have started the next one when you finished one that's i'm just saying you have to yeah so i'm keeping it in my um i believe this is a bitsy bob i think that's what it's called it's a um harry potter marauders map bitsy bob by that's so kelly etsy shop and so i already have the next one going and this is the next one that i found in my stash in the cute with the sewing machine it's a 2006 santa and so i keep this down in my living room because when we have coffee in the morning that's when i do a few stitches on that and it helps because i don't have the best stitching lighting in every room but my daylight halo rechargeable light i just carry with me downstairs and it's perfect and this is what i'm talking about this is how big that canvas is it's um small and because it's uh it's 18 count and i know some of you told me the name of it and now i can't remember because you know i'm old and um but you can get it like at joann's and and michael's or hobby lobby so i'm gonna go get some more of this um it kind of has like a a speckled tweety look to it i don't know if you can really see that but um so i um just you don't even need a hoop it this stuff is stiff enough at 18 count and i love i love the size of this pillow and i'm going to make a a whole bunch of them and get a trench bowl and have them in there on the fireplace downstairs and i was told by one of you we are all virtual helpers and you should read the comments because you get a lot of support and help in the comments i heard that the earlier ones which i will show you in a minute have a fancier border but that one of the gals said she wanted him to kind of all look the same and so she just didn't do the fancy border she did the running stitch border so she has that done on all of them and i might do the same thing yes and the other great thing is that most of them use the same color floss so it's very convenient i have my my prairie schooler santa floss on my ring by christine and i'll put that link look at how cute that is as the you flies i'll put that link i love that and on the back it says keep on ins sorry keep on and stitch on yeah well you know i only had two or three other of the prairie schooler am i rambling i think i might be rambling a little bit but let me tell you what happened i thought i should buy some more of them i'm not sure where you know like there's no prairie school or store each um each stitching shop might have a handful of them but not like in a consistent like from beginning to end like i don't know if some are not printed anymore kind of like black bird and it makes you worry about getting them and so i went on ebay i can't handle ebay oh my god i needed it i could have probably used a glass of wine before i went on ebay um so i went on ebay and i searched for prairie school or santas and there was an auction going on yeah actual auction that was going on and it was like winding down like tick-tock tick-tock tick-tock and i was like okay so i hadn't been on ebay in years i i'm not quite sure i wasn't quite sure so you know we've moved we'd have a different email and so i as the top clock was ticking down i was re-signing up and it was for five different prairie schooler santas and i can't handle the stress i can't handle the stress of ebay it was like oh my god oh my god you know it's like i've always you know those beautiful needle minders you know i received one as a gift but i wanted one that was like a dragon and and you just can't even get on there you can't even get it's like under the woolen willow you you can't even get what when these creative types post something you can't even get on there to get it because it's gone before you can maybe my finger needs work yeah but by miracle i won the auction and i'm telling you it was like i won the jackpot i was like squealing that i i i couldn't believe it i couldn't believe that i want it and so i'm very excited because now i have a bunch and i have 1989 1990 91 92 and 93. and this is what i'm talking about about the fancy border as opposed to the running stitch that was 89 and here's 90. and there's those raccoons again i i just love that raccoon and here's one that looks like he's a tropical tropical one he's got a pineapple there and here is a fishing fishing one and here's a gardening gardening santa so i'm really tickled i'm kind of set for a while i guess although there's i'm sure there's others that i really want and since i have to have one going all the time and i have a designated um bitsy bob specifically for that i i think um it's kind of fun it's kind of fun and so i'm going to post there already is a hashtag um ps santa prairie prairie schooler santa so i'm just gonna keep posting to the hashtag p.s santa so if you all are interested in always having a prairie schooler going and you have those charts around barb did it barb did it okay let us see where are we now oh everything kind of took a backseat because i had deadlines and i can't thank you enough for all the support and the suggestions about the shepherds bush stocking i'm going to be knee deep in all those tutorials this week because i have finished the stitching of that stocking i'm so freaking proud of myself now i do know that pocket robin told me that i should back this with my sf 101 before i sew all the little beads on because it'll just help secure them and i i totally get that because we do that in the quilting world but i can't i think i'm gonna make the deadline yeah the party isn't for um another week i think i have like five or six days so let's hope let's hope huh and then i'm gonna have to rotate back into picking up where i left off on all my other whips i um i know that right away i am going to be doing this one i showed you this last week i got this at acorns and threads i mean it's totally about me and i think i'm gonna hang it on that wall that's behind you can't you see it's not how many are finished it's how many you start yeah i love this one i love this one i was gonna make it to a pillow but i think i need to hang it on that wall to make myself feel better now so that's i'm all caught up right now as far as i can go um i have i don't think i'm going to be starting i think i'm going to be starting um my grandson's little brother my other little grandson but this is the stalking that i'm going to be making for him and i'm not sure i can make it in time for christmas but i sure can give it a good try can't i yeah um it's a cute one boy these things are so cute yeah and then i don't know if i showed you but this is my backing fabric and it's loosely woven also but i thought it was you know i liked it so i'll be back in that with the sf-101 oh and i have one more thing to show you gee and i went to barnes and noble and it's it was kind of interesting because they require you to wear a mask but if you have your vaccination card you don't have to wear a mask but i wore my mask anyway i mean what the heck no big deal but i had immediately went over to the magazine section and i kind of looked through everything and i chose this cross stitch magazine it's called just cross stitch i i really like those seed packets i thought they were beautiful but the reason i bought this is for this one project in here i just it really really i really really really wanted to do it let me see if i can find it because i thought it would be a fabulous gift it would be the gift that kept on giving anything like a housewarming gift let's see if i can find it here i'm looking through someone asked me about the water that was running that is the little uh it's a water feature waterfall that runs from one side of the yard to a little pond on the other side and so it provides an environment for frogs and so at night i have this awesome frog serenade and the waterfall sound is so relaxing what's not to relax about that and i'm still looking i'm still looking there's some cute sailboat this is the one i just thought this would be the perfect gift for um a housewarming uh or a hostess gift or something you know it's you figure out the longitude and the latitude of where excuse me of where someone lives and you stitch this you put the longitude and the latitude and then home i want it for my home but this is like i'll never give this magazine up because it's such a great gift and it was just cross stitch the june 2021 issue and it has the seed packets on front okay i've done enough i've spoken enough i feel like i've been with my therapist and since i don't have one all of you that's what we are for each other i know i yesterday i was supposed to go to a attend a zoom stitch that i absolutely love i love that zoom stitch but it also is the day that i see my grandson and by the end of the day i was so exhausted i forgot i forgot till nine o'clock at night and i was so angry with myself because i missed out now it won't happen for another two weeks we really do need each other and thank you so much for stopping by i i just love the company take care love you guys and i'll see you in the next video
