[Music] welcome welcome thanks for keeping me company today I have realized something profound about myself in the last week in reading the news and taking in all the information I had no idea that I was in the category of prepper yeah true it's not food or toilet paper or gas or soap but I definitely fall in the category of a prepper and it just is cross-stitch instead of things outside what was really funny was I am prepping projects that have no conceivable chance of getting finished this year I mean I already have my 10 and 20 and no it's it's like the greater world is affecting how I view my world and I looked at what it was in my world that I need that made me the most calm that made me Zen feng shui a little bit of balance and it was cross-stitch it came to me when I was at the West buying floss for a project that I have no chance of even starting let alone finishing this year but with that said I have an excuse this chart that I bought at the addict in all things being exceedingly diligent isn't it beautiful it's beautiful I noticed when I was kind of organizing how it was moving things around in here and anticipating how I'm gonna get it into the band poor penny this chart takes DMC or anchor that's what was used in this chart and I thought to myself self you've never done anything with anchor I know that prom queen she prefers the white and black anchor to the DMC because it's better coverage but I really never heard of anybody talking about anchor they talk a lot about DMC and then the specialty threads so I said I'm gonna go down and kick this up and I remembered that the West and Tucson which is the nonprofit shop so there's no sales tax here which I am totally used to no sales tax you know so when I someone charges me tax I'm personally offended but because it's a nonprofit shop they don't charge sales tax so I went down there because I remembered they had this whole cabinet of anchor thread and I was able to get every color every color that I needed for this chart except for one that they didn't have and then I got the DMC conversion of that yeah but again I am going to have to I mean look at those colors oh those are awesome I am going to have to mail order the fabric because neither them nor the addict had the fabric that kind of makes me a little panicky I feel like I kind of feel like how someone was feeling when they see the whole aisle of toilet paper empty that's the way I feel when I don't have the linen yeah but obviously I have fallen into the prepper category it's just what you prep so I did that I got that organized and I thought we'd just stitch and talk a little bit but first I just wanted to share with you oh I'm loving this pillow I'm in a different spot I'm on the couch today and it's kind of overcast they anticipate rain this afternoon and it's supposed to rain off and on for the next two or three days yeah I could have been in Portland if I wanted ring but oh no I am grateful I am grateful for these moments okay so when we're here I found this metal basket see that metal basket at t.j.maxx I think it was 12 bucks and this is the basket that I keep all my current projects though the 10 and 20 is basically in here in their individual project bags and and I've gotten the point where I can recognize the project bag you know what project is in it so that's how I store things here and it usually sits on the floor next to the couch here and then I just pick something out like yesterday I did the next outline of the next frosty forest so I am I've done it here too and now I'm moving to this side I seem to be most comfortable you know with these big pieces to be an enhanced stitcher I I'm not sure if I'll be able to continue that with these I mean especially with this diligent project it's like over 400 stitches wide can I do that in hand maybe maybe we'll have to see but I I like doing it in hand and and when you stitch in hand you already meet the CDC's guidelines for washing your hands frequently because you don't want to get your food and stuff on your project so you're constantly washing your hands before you start stitching so in that in that instance yeah I'm following the government's guidelines I did get a little bit more of my little boy done I got his little face on there now I'm working out in his hat I just really think these are so sweet I hope my sister likes likes these if she doesn't all help cuz they're cute I think they're cute let's see what else oh I have been working on the model sampler for those of you that are with me on Instagram I I was hoping this is how I dream big and it doesn't always happen because somehow in my mind I thought that this winter trip I would get the motto sample or done and I have stitched on it quite a bit but it's that border is quite involved it is so lovely I mean it is so lovely and I had such dreams of finishing at this winter and taking it home and having it framed and hanging it up in my house but I don't think that's gonna happen in fact I know that's not gonna happen but I'm gonna enjoy every stitch on it it is a beautiful beautiful piece and it reminds it's gonna remind me of such a an amazing event in my life which was fall fling my very first cross stitch retreat or workshop by a cause and threads and because I'm so looking forward to this fall their new event because that's kind of like where the world kind of went one step further into that cross stitch and I have to say I love the stitch II world I love it as much as my quilty world and that's saying a lot there's something about the cadence of it there's something about the community of it there's something about the dreams involved in it I am NOT I can't explain it any other way other than what a joyful joyful experience I have had with every cross stitch Meetup it's truly wonderful and I'm glad for those of you that are also following me on quote ladies but have also picked up cross stitch again because it does add a little bit of dimension to your world yes because I am thinking I'll have to see so every year at quilters affair when you're part of the teaching staff in the quilters the cultures affair is a fantastic event that happens in Sisters Oregon it precedes the quilt show it's the week the quilt show is always the second Saturday in July but the week before that we have quilt teachers from around the world who come to share their experience and their creativity with people who have signed up for classes it is an extraordinary extraordinary event and I am lucky enough to be a part of that and when you are in the roster of teachers and they like to have you make a quilted postcard which is really hard to explain the only way I could for if you're not familiar with quilted postcards just skip over to quilt Rody's or google and google quilt Rody's postcards and I did a tutorial on last year's postcard that I made but I am thinking that this year's postcard I need to combine my love of cross-stitch and quilting into one postcard oh my god that just gave me chills I just thought of it I mean what do you and see they're part of an auction and so it's it it's an amazing thing because the postcards sell for they're the size of a regular postcard but because they're like a one-of-a-kind art thing they they sell for a lot and in the auction and then when you're a teacher this is the extraordinary thing when you're a teacher your postcard is framed and I'm wondering if they're gonna do that this year because our our dear Myrna has been doing it for so many years and has retired from doing that so we'll have to see if that happens or not but if it does I'm going to make my postcard a combination of quilting and cross stitch I think that would be amazing yeah I think that would be amazing so and then that money is donated to support the arts and music in the schools the local school so there's lots of fun events like that so I hope you check that out and maybe make it a bucket list visit you know so back to cross-stitch yeah I'm definitely a prepper but I have friends who are you see how full this is and now I have two more project bags I got in the mail did I have to film with projects because that's who I am I just can't decide which projects should go in which bag but I can't have an empty project bag I can't but my friend sandy she is an amazing artist in the quilt world and crossed it she is jumped back in it she said it's my fault but I I don't think so I think she already she already had her foot in it a little bit but she made and sent me to project bags and she helps me we mentor the Facebook group that's friends of Sue spar goes folk art on Facebook and she helps me with that because there's no way I could keep up my life is way way busy but when I got these two I was just floored because they are absolutely adorable so look at this one Halloween one I know exactly which project is going in this one yeah and I have to figure out what the heck this was all about because I got one with the Christmas card and one with the birthday card but look at this card that's like that's for you stitch II which 42 Audrey look at that card isn't that the cutest thing yeah the Christmas card so this just came in the mail this week but look at this it has this little wool or it isn't it cute so cute there's little charms there's a sugar skull and oh no witch's hat so cute sandy you're a jewel thank you so much but I have to show you the second one she sent me something I thought I have a project that has to go in this bag now this one bees and look at the sunflowers on the back yeah and this one had good he said oh and so many cute charms charms on there but here's a pen that's a dragonfly look at that and then there's tweezers and a little pin stitch on yeah this was a fun fun package and then a chart well that's what has to go in there huh Eleanor Rigby and sweet baby by Blackbird designs and I know how we love so many of us love Blackbird designs designs and you know you know how Facebook comes up with a memory every softener memory comes up that was a memory that came up up a project back when I was just dabbling like 2015 and I don't know what happened that project it's gotta be in the Beehive somewhere but Thank You sandy that was so sweet of you so let's do some stitching I'm drinking Health Aide kombucha I love this stuff it's this one is ginger and lemon it's a bubbly probiotic tea and it takes me all day to sit this down the whole bottle has 70 calories in it but it's and it's it's kombucha so you hear that little that little poof it's like a beer yeah that's a good one so I'm gonna scoot back here so I get on my pillow oh that felt so good my glass is on and we'll do a little stitching while we talk now I'm finding that this lamp is pretty darn versatile because because it's a chargeable one I can bring it over here and not have to figure out how to court it and I just set it on a flat surface and a book and and it gives me enough light I only have to use the magnifier with certain counts you see how that is and and usually it's just to give a little bit of a you know like sometimes I'll check check my stitching but today I am stitching on the Suffragette yeah I like this one I have it picked it up in a while I think I left my sister cheap pillow over in penny I'll do this go yeah if you ever want to make yourself a stitch pillow just Google quilt Rody's stitching pillow and there I have a great tutorial for a pillow that will just take the pressure off of your neck and your arms and shoulders its own it's an awesome little little pillow but I left my left my one in I think it's impending and geeze have gone right now with penny so my girlfriend has sisters keeping her fingers crossed that she is getting two new puppies and they're having to be flown to her you know we're just to kind of a little town and gosh they're adorable the English setters I think they are and one of them has just the most precious blue eyes and that's kind of a group of grey speckled color I can't wait to get home and meet those peppers she's she's a hardcore dog lover and then a friend Robin her dog was out for a walk went and rolled in some poop oh just what you want to do is take care of a dog that rolled in a bunch of poop so how many of you are doing 10 and 20 aye aye I felt like it was a good way to get myself rolling on some of my whips and I you know so that it would be yeah I can just move this over a little bit and because it doesn't have a plug yeah it's uh I'm kind of liking that so maybe I will bond to this lamp from what I understand this is the new generation of the halo lamp that the previous one you it had to be plugged in but I've been testing this out and I'm getting I think about a good six hours before it has to be plugged in again so that's kind of nice so what was I talking about before oh the ten and twenty oh my gosh you know ten and twenty is a piece of cake oh you're not supposed to touch your face huh I just wrote my nose myself in here let's say the news makes you freaked out about everything you do but the ten and twenty seemed if you combine a few of smaller ones with bigger ones you know it seemed more doable but I watched genly she is a it's it's interesting to watch her she has a hold and I'm new to her last tube so I'm just getting to know her she reminds me somewhat one of my children and just the way the brain processes information and she's getting a new house and they're in escrow which is gonna be awesome for them but she is doing March Madness now I have to figure out if if March Madness can't happen because of the corona virus I mean maybe you shouldn't do March Madness no I'm just I'm joking well I heard that that's a basketball and and that they might if they have it there won't be any people in this dance and I think how weird is that how weird is that - would you play as well do you think if there was nobody in the stands I wonder but for Jen Lee March Madness means she's going to do and she's already started 31 different starts a different project every day and not only that but a different designer everyday so it's not like you could say oh I I wanna you know do all my plumb streets or something no she's doing 31 different designers which is pushing her out to try designers that she's never stitched before but I'm like wow all power to her because that is a huge endeavor and from what I understand and you know I'm fairly new to her floss tube is that she's successfully done this kind of stuff that she does um like stitches for 24 hours I just can't even imagine it yeah I mean maybe she's much much younger than me so I mean she's like my oldest son's age I think so maybe that's part of it you know it's like when when you're in the high-risk category that still ticks me off when you're in the high-risk category you can't do 31 projects by 31 different designers there's just no way but I I've been having fun watching her what she's picking and and a lot of the things that she has shown I've never I've never heard those designers so it's an opportunity to have these designers be showcased in some way you know so Nashville market ended and luckily it was able to continue on even though poor Nashville so much happened there but I'm anxious to see what what I haven't um waiting for me whenever I do get up there what you'll be later in April well probably the middle of April actually I have to go do my taxes it's all feel quiet today no a lot going on I guess you know that I found that life got a little bit quieter with the virus you know I mean they shut down a whole country wow that's I looked at G last night and I said that's unprecedented and maybe that was why it sent me into prep remote you know I don't need freeze-dried food I need floss floss in linen oh yeah so that's what I need this is a really comfortable stitch these letters so tell me what was your if you pre-ordered what was your very first chart I know that you probably have pre-ordered a bunch of stuff or you're going to get it but what is your number one what was your number one pre-order when you saw the things coming out what things did you say oh my gosh I need to get that one and I I remember you know it's all a blur now to me it's all aboard because I have no idea for the most part what I preordered I but the very first thing i pre-ordered I believe Janine has in a bag up there for me is the visitor I can't even remember who did that but it was a lovely lovely it almost had a botanical look to it to a botanical print look to it and it had a beautiful beat hive and a bird I just loved that whether that's on my list to start this year or not I have no idea I'm not sure what my birthday start is gonna be this year but I like the idea of stitching my birthday started on the same day of each month I am liking that there's so many neat charts out there you know and it's like someone said collecting charts is an hobby all by itself yeah my girlfriend Laurie got a really I mean I'd never seen it before it was a beautiful chart kind of done in a mandala type design of dolphins oh so beautiful so beautiful that's gonna be gorgeous when she gets it done she loves to go to Hawaii and they also have a vacation home on the coast in our home state and so a lot of those Beach things appeal to her or ocean themed things appeal to her it's kind of like I saw um I saw bluegrass a stitching in the bluegrass she showed a chart that my god can't I tried to find it and I couldn't find it so I'm gonna have to go back on her floss tube and actually look I listen again to the name of it because I couldn't find it but it was by little house needle works and it was a Western ranch themed and um she has that thing going on in our TV room to where we're combining cross stitch and the Western thing weird also all about the old cowboy shows and all of that so I have to find that chart and and do that yeah oh three well I been tryin to watch lost tubes and stuff but I surely haven't had time recently I picked up a few here or there and I hope I haven't missed anything dramatic I was watchin kindred stitches in Laurie tick stylist and they have such a sweet friendship the two of them and Laurie tech stylist is also a long-arm quilter and she is moving to sisters or I shouldn't say she's moving well she has lived in and out sister she had at like a second home there and now she's going to be there full-time and Lisa of kindred citruses was helping her move and she her place and sisters this is for those of you interested she is going to be running stitching retreats at her home she has her home set up to be able to do that and I'm telling you sisters is a great place to come have a retreat it's not only beautiful but although we don't have a prostitue quilt store that is now caring some cross-stitch kiss which is really awesome so she's going to be doing that so probably if you go on to tech stylist she will have a link where you could contact her if you ever want to do a retreat and sisters so how many of you stitch in hand and how many of you use a hoop puzzle how funny okay I stitched one of my hairs how many of you stitch in hand and how many of you use a hoop I'm thinking that I'm going to be I'm honest one of those I don't know if this is the brand I want but like a what they call a Lowrey stand or something like that for really big projects otherwise I'm most comfortable actually stitching in hand and and remember when I was talking about the fray check reset change and dial yeah I feel like I kind of zoned out for a second I used that Freight check on the edge of this piece that I cut off and that thing is awesome if you do not have an LMS that surges your pieces for you fray check is awesome I mean it's awesome thank you to whoever it was back a few floss tubes ago that told me about it because I am sold I am sold on it so we're going to be traveling home soon and we are trying to figure out our route I know that initially we're going to Sedona because we want to do some hiking and it's so beautiful in Sedona so beautiful and so we're gonna be going to Sedona and then from there as long as nothing's been canceled we're going to go to Williams which is you know where route 66 kind of goes through Williams and there's a like old train that you can take and it takes you it's a three-hour trip into the Grand Canyon the South Rim of the Grand Canyon I don't think the Northrend rim is opened yet but so I know we're gonna do that and then we are I'm gonna make our way home but I don't know which way we're gonna try to find the easiest route home and hope that the weather is good on the travel home but that won't be for about another week or so but who knows by the time we get these videos loaded we could be a lot closer to that trip huh weren't the pictures of market just so awesome I can't wait to see all those charts new charts that Janine's going to have sounds like someone's building something what's your favorite designer if you only get help one chart in the world whose would it be that's a tough one isn't it that is a tough one because if you could only have one chart who would that be now see I I saw on Instagram that was this thing going around took me a while to figure out what what it was all about but somebody started something where they asked a question every day and then a whole bunch of people post the answer to that question and and it's a way to get to know others on Instagram which is quite sweet it's quite sweet so I've been reading some of those as they come up and one of the questions I saw was who's your favorite designer well you know practically everybody answered the same way in terms of oh I just couldn't pick one there's so many I love this person I do this person I love this person but what if you couldn't pick what if you could only have one what if that that was the world we lived in dead that everything came down to where only people were allowed one chart one designer what would it be well that almost makes me want to hyperventilate a little bit yeah because I was I was oh it was on this oh gosh I think his name is Gary I don't know he was going around market and he was filming little snippets with each designer and and he was and you know they were telling him about his about their newest designs and stuff and and he knew them all and when he got to Plum Street there was a bowl which I didn't realize I didn't realize about it I didn't know about it but there was a bowl of like bowl fillers that we're all stacking animals like there's a whole bunch of those I mean I just bought this year rack stack because I thought it was so funny you know cuz we we have deer with racks walking around our yard and so I said oh I need to to make that little pillow well then he showed the latest one then there's this bowl filled with all these racks tax and racks tax yeah and he showed the latest one which were kangaroos stacked up on each other and it was called the room crew I think I think that's what it was called and um and I was oh isn't that interesting but then I thought oh I'll just you know I'll just do the rack stack in and then gently of quirks and stitches Sturgess she showed this one with foxes foxes how cute is that and she is it has them I guess she has them all and there's like several several of them and she says she is gonna make them all well now I want to make them all I I want to make all those stack things you know so now I got to figure out where am I gonna get on the old ones that you know so I need to figure out where can I get all the because it looked like to me I don't know how many of those she releases a year but it looked like to me like like it was like a like a lifetime of work already that she had designed I think I need I know it is so hard when you have this much desire it is so hard and I'm in the high-risk category you know so I I'm counting down the age yeah I was really bummed when they cancelled the Tucson Book Festival I mean you I was so looking forward to it this year my friend Kathy and I went last year together and we did not get past the first booth the first booth were old and collectible books we did not get past that until we dropped a lot on old books and all the authors they had too many authors that were flying in that we're cancelling their oh so they had to cancel the whole event yeah but maybe next year it'll be okay you know they just gotta figure out a vaccine but I have a feeling that this will fundamentally change how we move and travel and do things it'll be interesting to see because I used to subscribe to this and I wonder if something like this can actually happen is that I used to subscribe to this app like my my mind has to constantly be engaged and I like to learn things and so I had this app on my phone that was called iTunes University I think that's what it's called iTunes University and what it was was it was college classes you could look up oh I wanna I want to listen to a college class on astronomy or I want and it's an actual class that's being reported and like any that there were so many participating universities that like you could listen you could listen to a class at Harvard you know I've been to Harvard yeah or so I I would listen to those classes and it like auditing you know it's not like you're getting a grade but you you actually could get a textbook if you wanted but it was actual class that was being recorded so that you could hear the student shuffling in the background or someone coughing or you know and so I I just I enjoyed that you know I took a I audited but a whole class that was actually you can major in quilting at a university north/northwest University I forget where where that was but so now with the coronavirus and them closing colleges and having them do their classes at home by computer you know I wonder if that will become more and more of an option during the winter months you know that instead of having to physically go you could actually take your class online in you know like where you could you know I know there's online classes but like substantially more I guess is what I'm trying to say so oh well I'm rambling I'm rambling so I got my you done what we're moving right along on this project let me tell you I need my little needle mind your eat sleep stitch so this one this suffrage act is a little house needle works and it's a really sweet project really sweet project and I'm doing it on an apple brown or an Arlen and 32 count well thank you for hanging out with me today I hope all is going well with you I hope we'll see you down the road and that you get a lot of stitching in and don't don't feel bad about being a prepper yeah yeah I think it's a new way of life
