good day what's going on everybody welcome into First Take I hope you had a fabulous weekend Molly Karam here from NYC the Hall of Famer Shannon sharp and Stephen A the atrocity on the mound that's from the West Coast hi guys yeah yeah yeah yeah we miss you Molly miss you guys too you you okay I miss you Molly here's the deal though this is why you're lucky because Stephen A is very moody and you don't have me to help buffer the situation at least he's in a good mood today that's right yeah he's a good move he's dressed like he got the houndstooth on he looking he looking nice Molly he looking nice Molly feeling good about himself so something happened over the summer something happened over the summer I don't know quite what it is Molly [Laughter] on the west coast and he doesn't even know how to act Gentlemen let's do it let's get to why he's smiling so here's the deal after two dominant wins the Dallas Cowboys looked Unstoppable then yesterday happened the defense gave up 180 rushing yards in the first half he offense scored just one touchdown in five Red Zone trips while playing without three starting offensive linemen and the team committed 16 penalties 13 that were accepted here's Dak on a rough day at the office Top of the World um we knew we know who we are um and in that same sense I'm sure the media got what they wanted uh yeah it sucks it's humbling um but to say it's a wake-up call we knew we had a lot of adversity um and we just just didn't get it done and I think it just goes back to myself the offense and in the red zone so I mean we get better at there we win this game but uh we've got to fix that area period all right let me start with the unbiased party here Shannon does this loss prove to you that you can't trust Dallas nobody proved it that this defense had masked a lot what was going on with the Cowboys offense and I spoke about it I said Dak Prescott had only accounted for two touchdowns whoa Shannon it was a driving rainstorm in New York I said were the Giants playing in the tent it was raining on them also what about the Jazz where the Jazz have a historic defense I said your offense must produce touchdowns in the Red Zone you lose ball games by kicking field goals in the Red Zone yesterday one for five after going two for six the previous week the Cowboys not ranked 27th in Red Zone touchdowns last year they were number one in the league at 71 when you get into the Red Zone when you get 20 yards going in if you kick field goals you lose ball games if you get score touchdowns you win championships I said now what happened Stephen now after I asked a simple question I said what happens if the defense doesn't get scoop and scores if they don't get pick sixes your special team don't turn it over what happens then well don't worry the office usually the left field they got CD they got Gala they got Ballers oh Dad really now all I know is this the Giants got 40 hung on them by the Cowboys the Giants beat the Cardinals the Cardinals have the almost as a two score dog beat them by two scores right why because if your defense is not historically great weekend and week out I've seen a large enough sample size on Dak Prescott and seven years is a large sample size they do medical studies Stephen A that's not seven years they so seven years is enough DAC is inconsistent and until he Shores up that the Cowboys aren't going anywhere so I guess y'all got to put those parade permits oh you know y'all had parade we just where we gonna go when we win the Super Bowl they building statues everybody on the defense they got the statue well you didn't know that that's what the Cowboys that's what they do that's why so they're bad based in American history they make me sick in that particular morning when you're sitting up there depressed I'm happy that you're depressed because this is what you deserve you see what happened Shannon sharp there's a whole bunch of colleagues that we work with ESPN that are at fault for what happened with the Cowboys I don't know if you know that see when you talk about the Cowboys when you elevate them when you elevate them to a level of prosperity that they clearly don't deserve they fold like cheap tents and you know this is going to happen that's why what do I constantly say just be patient just wait it's coming and sure enough since last season you know that Dak Prescott has 10 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions when the Cowboys are trailing since last season this is what he does this is what he does did you know that coming into last season one of the things we lamented about Mike McCarthy was penalties so the Dallas Cowboys what did they do the first two games right here when we're talking about the amount of penalties okay they had 11 penalties in the first two weeks they had 13 yesterday this is what they do the point is the point is if you can run the football against the Dallas Cowboys if you can put them in a tight squeeze if you could make games tight if you don't put them in a position where they run a rough shot all over you and they're playing obviously it was a huge Advantage because they got they they they're up 40 to nothing well they're up 30 that or they win 30 to 10. if you put them in tight spots what did I also say Shannon I talked about moments baby I talked about moments I said excuse me Dak Prescott in those moments he's going to have to come through as bad as Dallas was characteristically bad with the Cardinals scoring in their first five possessions all in the first half yesterday as bad as that was this was still a game that the Dallas Cowboys had a chance against sure but when it counted Dak Prescott was giving that football and what have I been saying since the preseason I said excuse me y'all defense is real and I know Trayvon Diggs is out right I know that compromised that because at some degree I get all of that okay that's right I understand he wasn't gonna stop that running game but in the same breath you might have been able to focused on a little bit more if you didn't have anything to worry about your secondary but you just had Stefan Gilmore back there all I'm saying is this at the end of the day Shannon my last point I keep telling folks just be patient right because at the end the Dallas Cowboys are going to come down to Dak Prescott and once again in moments yes Dak presence yes comes up smaller than what he comes than how he comes up when the moments right are significantly smaller that's what you want all you have to do is that if I'm if I'm an offense if I'm a head coach of a team that's facing the Cowboys don't turn it over don't give them scooping scores don't give them pick sixes don't give their offense short Fields make them Drive the length of the field more times than not given his history over seven years if you force the Cowboys to drive the football for extended periods of time bad things normally happen Okay but you remember the first game they blocking punts they scooping scores they pick six and they celebrate they all in front of the camera uh uh Michael's on the ground like big Silverback he's just crawling around everywhere now all of a sudden they couldn't pressure the quarterback now it's on you that because as great as a defense is you're only good if you can you be good when you absolutely need to be now we've seen him get a lot of empty calories they far away behind and you look at the box score if you didn't watch the game that got 300 400 yards that played good but how many of those yards came when they were trailing by two scores no this is not what he does and at some point in time we got to stop glossing over it right 400 yards they gave up on defense that's where seven and a half yards per play against some dude named Joshua that's a different subject for another day but in the end the Dallas Cowboys were still in a position to make something happen and Dak Prescott through an interception when it comes in triple coverage triple and triple coverage so again America all I'm trying to say to you is this I mean no harm I mean no harm but I keep trying to tell you guys maybe just a little bit but the Dallas Cowboys are who we thought they were wanna take a look at this because I think it's kind of tough if we could pull that up on the screen I know they have the Patriots they're at the Niners they have the Chargers the buy the Rams the Eagles Shannon how many of those games are concerning to you in their future lots of them because here's the thing if you can protect the football that's all you got to do don't give the offense short field don't give them scooping scores don't give them pick sixes make the cowboy offense function for the entirety of the drive because if you put them on the 10 yard line you put them on the 20-yard line they only have to go so far but they've done a terrible job in the red zone of scoring touchdowns they kicking field goals field goal gets you beat long term and we saw that yesterday at some point in time oh might caught a great game oh Daniel Jones was turning the ball over left and right we're going to talk about Zach Wilson really so Cowboys y'all were ready to have a parade y'all was ready to build statues they still are because they beat Daniel Jones exactly they still are again you haven't mastered the nauseating Tendencies of the Cowboy fan base they still believe that they're gonna be even though they're complaining about that even though they're complaining that this one's got to go even though they complaining that Mike McCarthy with the 13 penalties I'm telling you right now that's just the equivalent of them going to the bathroom and passing gas they come out of there they think it's perfume and they're going to send them to say we're going to be all right we're gonna be all right we ain't losing okay but they are because at the end of the day you got to come back to Dak Prescott he's not going to get this defense let me tell you something right now this defense knows how real they are they know yesterday as an aberration we know Michael Parsons and those boys will be ready as the season progresses by the way I'm not sure they'll beat the chart they'll lose to the charges on the road because I'm not sold on Brandon Staley but we'll talk about that yeah we definitely don't talk about definitely going to talk about him but in the end it comes down to this Shannon the Dallas Cowboys okay there's a reason I had him as the third best team in the NFC behind Philadelphia and the 49ers it's because of that man at the quarterback position yes I have raved about this brother how he deserved his money you got his money the whole bit but the reality is is that he has not said he's got two player victories in eight years it's unacceptable and there's nothing to believe there's nothing to believe that he's gonna get number three or four this season right into postseason is what I'm talking about he's he's too inconsistent and the one thing that we know is that the 49ers they play can run the football and what we're seeing as team is that when you want to get after the quarterback the one thing that slows the pass rush down is the ability to run the football it's hard hey it's hard to rush the quarterback when the guy running with the ball in his belly for 20 yards down the field and that's what Connor was doing that's what Rondell Moore was doing hitting his head on the goal post from 45 why because guys running up field trying to get the Joshua dogs now you know Joshua Dobbs had just filled out an application earlier this year before Amazon Prime really really he's your goddamn month he's only been in Arizona they traded him right right before the season started because Kyla wasn't uh the uh rehab hopefully is going well okay but they know he wasn't going to be able to start the season so they say you know we will take Joshua dogs and Joshua dog put that thing on him put it on them now y'all mad at me you gotta what about the Broncos I got no expectations for the Broncos it was y'all that had the parade playing it out it was y'all that was erecting statues of your defense so don't get mad at me get mad at Joshua Dobbs in the Cardinals well first of all they're going to get mad at you anyway because you know Part B if a Cowboy fans to blame themselves they can't be accountable we all know who they are but you know I'm looking at the schedule right here you know we're in L.A right now and you know I gotta go back and forth got a lot of things to do but you know you was asking me when you coming back yeah when you coming back then I looked at the charger scheduled Monday October 16th well everybody um supposed to be out here that that I might have to go to that game I I think it's only right that I did not go to that game uh I think they got a shot to to lose on Monday Night Football and and just not come through in a big moment I'm just saying I mean it would be all right for me to be there man yeah yeah it'll be nice that'd be real nice to meet up we might have to vote you know something I think some of some of this blowback I'm getting is because of you
