hey guys welcome back to the channel we're loaded up here in the default f-18 the airfield is geneva that is lima sierra golf golf and the livery is looking pretty special this one is the 25th spain anniversary available on flightsim.to all the links to the products i use will be in the description below this is going to be a really quick look at cold and dark or checklist startup but the f-18 is really simple i'll include a couple of other things as we go top tips and tricks so be sure to watch all the way through and if it's at all useful to you please hit that like and especially subscribe just to help support the channel so with that in mind let's jump straight in as you load up into the aircraft it's all pretty much good to go you can do the pre-start checklist if you wish but you're just confirming all the switches are in the right position the one thing that i would advise is the throttles will start in the um idle position now in order to get this to the shutoff position you have to hold with your left mouse button and then click with your right same again hold down the left mouse click and click with your right that is now in the uh what you pull the mixture off or the hp shut off so fuel won't flow so that is how it should be first thing you want to do is select the battery to on on the left hand side you've got apu to on the apr now starts spooling up in the background and take 20 to 30 seconds for green ready light whilst that's doing that the lighting panel is around the right hand side here i can switch position lights on formation lights and the strobes too bright as you wish the green light is now illuminated we can crank the engine normally it's right engine first but it doesn't really matter in this aircraft you have to scroll mouse wheel up for the right engine you'll see in this panel you'll see the rpm start to increase and you're waiting to 25 to 30 percent before you move the throttle into the idle stop whilst we're waiting for that in terms of setting up mfd there's not much you can do with them because it's a default aircraft and not a lot it's implemented on the left hand side i'll keep the ai selected on the right hand side i'll select menu to get to the support page and then i'll go for fuel to keep an eye on the fuel let's have a look so the engine is now at 25 i'll move the throttle forwards to the idle stop and you'll see the rpm continue to rise and the temperature important is continuing to rise once that reaches about 350 to 400 you've got a good start the mfd ai you've got the fuel on the right and the central mfd you can select to the map that's the button on the left hand side middle of left hand side you can toggle the map on and off if you've gone somewhere else either on the tack display and you want to get back to the map it's menu to get to the support page and then hsi if the map isn't displayed just click on the mode button and map and then you get the map information but clearly it's it's a lot more clear without the map in the background personal preference i'll leave it i'll leave it on today just a quick note whilst i remember other things you can set down here are the barrow altimeter setting is available on the standby altimeter down bottom right you can scroll that as required and that changes your hud setting as well i didn't see a way to do that in the ufcp on the left hand side you've got your heading and track selector the course is not implemented but you can then move your heading bug around the hsi as required and use that for autopilot later finally on this panel on the fuel panel on the left hand side you'll see bingo so it's currently set bingo 4.6 you can scroll that up and down as required to set your bingo and it'll tell you when you get to that fuel with that said we'll carry on with the startup sequence right engine appears to have started so you can crank the left you can see the crank switch goes back to the off position once the engine's duct has finished left engine is now cranking there's not a lot else we can do in terms of switches everything pretty much further off than halfway back on this panel isn't modelled which is a double-edged sword it's nice to keep it simple for default aircraft but it doesn't give you a lot to get involved with otherwise inside the cockpit you can turn some lighting up the flood lighting if you wish and now we're just waiting on the left energy to start the last engine is 25 rpm we'll move the throttle into the idle stop to complete the engine start so assuming the left engine is pretty much started and we're good to taxi anything's left to do here switch the taxi lights on the anti-skid on and the flaps can go to mid that is cold and dark start checklist complete for the f-18 the engine started you can now select the wing sweep or the wing fold to fold if you wish and it is nicely modelled it'll come up to the upright position what i can't find a way to do is open the canopy which is pretty ridiculous considering they've modeled the uh wing fold but not the canopy open by the looks of it if you know how to open the canopy please put a comment uh down below now we're ready to taxi so let's get out to the runway and we'll fold the wings or unfold the wings on the way here we go that's the advice taxi really slowly if you want to get the sharp turns as soon as you start accelerating above 5-10 knots the aircraft will not turn very well let's go ahead and spread the wings okay we're ready to go if you haven't been able to get afterburner to work you need to assign a button or a switch to enable it i'm looking to rotate around about 170 to 180 knots gear flap i'll come out of afterburner just keep an attitude about five to ten degrees to accelerate to 300 knots yeah and flapper up 300 knots then i'll use my attitude in order to control my speed in the climb that looks so nice okay okay now we're up here we're going to level off and i'm going to talk you through the autopilot functionality we should say limited but useful question mark okay so let's go into active pause looking at your upfront control panel this is digitized normally there'll be buttons i don't know if the latest f18 model has this but this is what we've got so starting from the top left you've got a beacon ils that's not implemented ils does not work on this aircraft yet autopilot button come back to that takan you can set the frequency if you want uh 51 uh type in the number here so whatever's in here is what you've got set and you can overline you can over type that with whatever you like but this attacker again it's not implemented that's just if you want to set it now iff you can change the squawk so currently four five seven seven if you want four five seven six press on mode three and that'll change your squawk and you can select it on by pressing on if you ever see an off button on this panel if you press it once it'll go on with the little black or a little filled in square that'll say it's now work the cni button will take you back to the main page that's tackling an iff done right out you've got certain alerts you can have set so for instance you can have barrow you can set your barrel barrow alert altitude to 5000 feet we'll change that to 4000 here right on barrow now it's to 4 000 at the moment your alerts are off now they are on once you press that button when you go through the altitude it'll keep telling you altitude altitude and if you want to get rid of that you'll have to come back to this page and switch it off we'll leave it on for now then i back to the main page ew doesn't work flair doesn't work and the only other thing we'll talk about now is the autopilot the autopilot is pretty basic there is on the hsi a heading bug and the heading bug control switch is to the left it is a physical switch here so if i toggle that to the right you can see the heading bug now aligning zero six zero let's go heading select uh this is flight path attitude hold i believe actually what i prefer to do is barrow altitude hold so that should automatically populate when you press b out with your current altitude i have not yet found a way of setting that to the altitude you want it just toggles on to whatever's nearest here we go i'll unpause hopefully it'll stay 5 300 feet and i'll turn left 060. okay so that is pretty much the autopilot complete there's a couple other things i believe this is flight path attitude hold so if you select an attitude and press this it should hold it not entirely convinced it works properly rad out same deal not sure uh the difference between heading and heading select again not sure but in any case i'll set your hsr heading bug using this switch and then select that for it to roll to whichever heading you wish and that is pretty much the autopilot uh complete now the big thing with the autopilot is i can't find the button to stop it if you select autopilot to on and then he's well selecting the autopilot here is just the page okay and once you get to here you can select then barrow altitude it seems to default to heading as well once you once you select that which is a little bit weird now i can't figure out a way of switching this off it always has something selected if you right click so what i've done is assigned a key to master autopilot toggle and then i can switch it off as i need to so that is the autopilot we'll go back to geneva to uh pitch back into the pattern and like i say the ils isn't functioning so we're not going to be using that there's the altitude warning so i'll press cni to go back to the main page see the red out is flashing and i'll switch off barrow alert so i'll zoom back to uh initial point for geneva okay here we are at initial like 350 knots we're going to dive down towards close to 500 feet for the running and break i'll make this a left-hand pattern well default scenery that's pretty cool checking left roll pull don't pull too much g e currently in the head is about four hour back they're keeping it to porsche you don't lose too much speed which is nice anything more than that and you'll find that you bleed off a lot of speed less than 230 knots is what i'm aiming for downwind look at my hsi i'm reciprocal of zero four zeroes that works out below 230 knots i'll select the gear and the flap to mid you can leave it in auto i guess as it slows down it'll automatically configure but i like to take control of it goes down flap is mid i want about 180 knots hit vinyl i can see the thresholds just going past the wingtip speed below 200 knots that's good rolling to 45 and i'm going to pull back pressure on the stick to keep my flight path marker in the green staple the green staple is where you see the flight path mark a circle with the three lines and the staple is just next to it on the left hand side every shot ever so slightly i'll keep the speed down towards 170 knots for the approach and you can see the five degree glide path on the hud there i'm aiming for about a two and a half to three degrees idle flight check you don't flare too much in this aircraft and let it land align the brakes then pull him back on the stick to allow the tail to give us some aerodynamic breaking okay at this stage i'm going to select the flaps to auto i'm going to select the wing sweep of the wing fold should i say because why wouldn't you looks cool and that is sort of complete so we'll go through the shutdown drills now bring it to a stop parking brake applied now you can switch off the lights as you need to the wings are folded switch off the lighting that you switched on switch off the lighting on the left hand side that you switched on and to shut down these engines you'll need to left click so you take control of it with the mouse and then click the right button that's a little bit finicky there we go that is engine switched off we'll look at the rpm we can confirm good engine shutdown not sure what that sound effect is it sounds like something's still running but the apu is off the engines are off and now we can switch the battery off that is a complete tutorial on startup flight autopilot recovery landing and shutdown if you're still here thanks for watching please remember to hit the like and maybe even subscribe if you found this at all useful and i'll look to produce at least a video or two each week until the next time stay safe [Music] oh
