hey everybody it's Jordan with warp fire minis if you've been looking at the tier list coming out or win rates you're going to see skaven we're down there on the rock bottom but we can still win games so let's talk about how first up let's go into the grand strategies we have for us um there's only two that are even feasible right now in my opinion we have the arch corrupters of the Mortal Realms that one in the skaven book there's a variety of them but all of them are the same where you have to have three Heroes alive from Clan verminus or Clan pestilence or whatever Clan you want but it also includes Master Clan Heroes so Arch corrupters gives you the chance to bring in graciers which are all masterclan Lord Screech who's Master Clan and then plague priests who are Clan pestilence and we're gonna have to have three of those guys alive at the end of the game and when we compare that to the other Grand strategies in other books it's not the best but this one right now in my opinion I think it's our best one we're bringing those units anyways because they're good and it's one like we can consistently score it like people have to go out of their way to stop us from scoring it and if they're going out of their way it means maybe we're scoring some points somewhere else the other one we can do is spell casting Savant and that one's just you have to have your general has to be a Locus unit they have to stay alive until the end of the game so we can do that with the gray Seer or you can do a death Master if you give him the Arcane Tome it turns him into a wizard and then you just hide him into a squat of Clan rats and try and keep them there as long as you can he doesn't do anything We're just trying to get him to the end of the game and that's it um this one's not my favorite because again you're paying the points for that death Master he's not doing anything and then if it's just one single Grace here they have to kill there's a lot of spells like Spirit Gale or comets call like there are ways they can pick it out and it's only one unit so they can really kind of focus on it but both of these skave in like we play good into it the graciers they all can shrug wounds off into Clan rats or whatever skaven unit you're standing by are skaven heroes the small ones get Lookout sir in combat so we're minus one to hit we can run away from combat so with all the trade in our tool bag here like it's it's a grand strategy we can score next up we're gonna go into Battle Tactics and they gave us a new one finally uh we got this battle scroll update and this battle tactic was probably the best thing that came out for us in it um it's called fleafly and we just have to retreat with a hero and retreat with a battle line unit and that's something like you can't score it turn one it's not a free gimme like other armies but this one usually turned two or turn three this is something we can consistently score and it just gives us an extra battle tactic on top of the general handbook one where now we can do like we don't necessarily have to score magical dominance if they're in our range turn one like sometimes that one's risky if you're playing if you're playing corn they can Auto unbind it or they've got croak they're plus three to unbind so it can get challenging where this one just through the course of the game it's one extra one we can score so like a plus thanks Games Workshop appreciate it then for Battle Tactics we've got to score five over the course of the game right so we've got that new one we just talked about we've got Invaders that's just getting out of our Zone super easy we got surround and Destroy where we just get to three different board edges that like we hop through some knot holes pretty easy we've got bait and trap where we Retreat to charge two magical dominance if we have to like if it's turn one and you deploy out of range and it's free like go for it and then the last one's gonna be led into the Maelstrom and that one we have to charge a hero and then charge a battle line unit and one of them has to stay in combat remember that we got a couple cool tricks I'll show you real quick on the table can help you score that one pretty easy all right so for Battle Tactics like lead into the Maelstrom we have to charge a hero and a battle line the toughest part of that sometimes is going to be staying in combat and so one little trick you can do is just I'm gonna charge into these fleshounds with Screech I'm going to charge in and I'm going to stay just outside of three of these Splash hounds over here and the deal is I know that Screech is going to just lift up all these guys in combat and if he does I fail my battle tactic so I need to stay in range so just when I activate Screech to Pile in I'm gonna Pile in but just like a half of an inch I want to be just barely in range of these guys so I'm gonna fight in combat I'm gonna kill all these guys they're gone but now the fleshounds are still in combat they can either choose not to Pile in and they stay there and I still score my battle tactic or even if they do Pile in like they can only Pile in three inches so only one of these guys is going to be in attack range to hit me back and so I'm scoring my battle tactic with very little negative effect to Screech himself like one fleshound's gonna do one to two damage that's fine then let's say you're fishing for that double turn you don't want Screech to end the turn in combat so like we've got a hero and a battle line going in we do the same thing Screech charges up but our clan rats when we charge we're gonna do the same thing we're gonna go over here and we're gonna stay just outside of three of that flesh Hound and we're gonna do the same thing these guys they go in staying within an inch for their coherency and Screech is gonna fight he's again gonna kill these flesh hounds but now the clan rats they're out of combat with the fleshounds but since they did charge even though the unit that they were in combat with is dead since they charged their eligible to Pile in so we're gonna do the same thing and we're just gonna go oop okay now we're just within three inches of those fleshounds and again with the Flesh on only being able to move three like they're gonna only get one like maybe two in combat with us versus the clan rats they kill two Clan rats but again we can pull from the back and we still score our battle tactic then this last example is going to do pretty much the same thing but just kind of illustrate where three claw steps is very powerful so same idea Screech charges into these guys and sometimes you'll find yourself in a position like okay I hit a small charge um the clean rats are down here I'm not going to be able to get within three of them with just my pile in but with three claw steps the first time we Pile in a unit so we would just Pile in Screech this way we also get to Pile in the clan rats and so now we're going to be able to move them three for their first Pile in and stay outside of three of the fleshounds Screech again fights kills these guys and now we can still do another Pile in when we activate the clan rats to boom just get within three keep everybody coherent but claw steps it can really really help us score our Battle Tactics and that's how you do it next up we're gonna go into the standout units for this season a lot of things that were good before are still good but there's been a couple big changes like thank wall is the biggest one that comes to mind last season he was the star in all of my lists this this season he's out I'm not going to bring him ever um the big hit there was he lost latch on the soul Seeker he used to be able to use the boat and teleport around and it didn't seem like that big of a deal and so I kept trying to bring him just to see how it would pan out and it was just a big deal being able to teleport to get him into range like to go across the board and hit a unit that's far away is one thing but the big issue came into just walking him up on foot uh there's a lot of times where you're going to walk up and you're going to end five or six inches away from an enemy and then they're gonna get an easy redeploy and potentially get out of range of those flamethrowers since they're only eight inches and so when we were using the boat we could always walk up to outside of three they'd have to hit a five inch or bigger redeploy for it to hurt us and the enemy would know that they know rolling a five up the odds are against them so sometimes they just wouldn't even go for it but now like if I'm ending six or seven inches away we're talking a two entry deploy gets them out they're gonna do that and they're probably gonna succeed and now thank all did nothing um the plus three to unbind's really good but if the flamethrowers aren't doing it just thankful is not doing it for me on the brighter side we still have the warbringer uh he's still like probably the best unit we have he's the hardest hitting thing in our book you give him the warp Stone charm and devious adversary he's rim three he's doing a bunch of attacks he flaming weapon is glaive now they're damaged three and just he can walk up up to most things in the game and just drop the whole squad or drop the big monster no problem you add in that we're in a pretty heavy melee meta right now and death frenzy is just that much better so warbrbringer with death frenzy on him we're gonna death frenzy our plug sensor Bears or help it just everything we have once death frenzy nobody wants to go against that we're gonna try and use that Primal dice to help it go off enemies are gonna Target this spell to try and unbind it but just try your best to get it off it's going to help you win games for sure next up is Lord Screech I was a big proponent of him last season and this season he just got even better the different stances for getting minus one to hit or plus one is spell casting are huge then his spell it casts on eight so last season there was no way to make that better other than standing next to the gnawhole or using your magic stance so now we got Primal dice right so rolling an eight when you're throwing a primal dice like we're consistently getting his spell off it's consistently a problem for our opponent and being able to summon in that extra Squad of Clan Rats from however much damage you do with the spell is just massive this season so this season a lot of the Battle Tactics and just strategies overall you want to have more units on the board so getting free units is just the dream it's like you could hit that spell drop units on an objective you could hit that spell drop units on a board Edge to set up a surround and Destroy um you can even like there are times where I summoned in the clan rats set them outside of nine of an enemy try and hit for that big charge or soak up and unleash hell with them charging in first and then he still does a lot of damage too so the glaive six attacks the plague reapers are eight attacks they're all two damage each um he's got his one stance where you go Ren three damage three on his glaive you set that up next to the warbringer into something with the warp Stone charm now screeches are in four Rin four is a bad time for everybody else after that another masterclan unit like Lord Screech we have the gray seers and so both of those are helping us achieve our grand strategy which is very key and then graciers it's a two cast wizard they're pretty cheap they're Master Clan their Locus they've got blizzard they've got skidder leap they just took away being able to skidder leap and blizzard in the battle scroll so that was a little bit of a hit but graciers they're just too good like you have to bring them into your list um for skaven right now to win I think that you need three claw steps and to get three claw steps you have to have three Master Clan units so I'm bringing Screech and two graciers in every list to get those three Master Clan Heroes and just being able to use that first charge roll or first run roll and even the extra pile ends those are all just massive especially when the Battle Tactics require us like we've got to charge two units or we've got to charge a hero and a battle line three claw steps is just helping make all of that more consistent so it's a must-have for spells on the gracier a lot of times I'm doing a spell enhancement to get an extra spell for them and so one of them I'll normally do like skitter leap and blizzard and then on the other one I'll do either death frenzy and Frost or just death frenzy and another blizzard it's nice with blizzard people are scared to get within 12 inches of view and so you can use them to kind of help zone or help counter punch if somebody hits your clan rat screen it's like if they charge in their vampire lord on zombie dragon and hit your 20 Clan rats you can't Auto pass bravery they're all gonna run but now that Grace here is right there and if he's in blizzard range which he is because you just made that happen it's just gonna drop the vampire lord if you get it off and for a 120 point foot hero to have that big of an impact on a game like it's just the biggest deal that could possibly happen for you so I like running two with blizzard that's what I'm doing right now and I'm usually taking blizzard over warfrost um hor Frost it's a super sexy spell right now you can potentially give your things written three um the best Target for that for us is going to be the plug sensor Bears they're naturally rinned one so going to Ren 3 big damage Spike for them but in my experience most of the time they just don't need it so the 10 are going to come in it's going to do 40 attacks on threes and threes um red one two damage if Screech is around you can hit them with the command ability to make them hit on two's wound on twos and it's just more damage than you need most of the time so Frost if you cast it and if you get the three like it does make them do more damage but if we don't need it then I would rather have blizzard just to give me an extra threat on the board so that's what I'm doing right now so next up is the plague priest and since we're doing the grand Strat of arch corrupters or the Mortal Realms we need to have Clan pestilence Heroes and clan master Clan Heroes so we've got Lord Screech we've got those two graciers so for my list I'm adding an extra two plague priests that gives us five total we gotta have three of them live to the end of the game and the pike priests they can still contribute um they're 100 points so they're cheap but the biggest thing is if you're near the novel and then if they're near another plague priest they get pluses to their prayers and if you get a six on that including the modifiers you trigger a Great Plague the best one is the bubonic plague which is 2d6 more wounds so again you set these guys up behind your screens as kind of a counter punch so if they come in and they hit those Clan rats and kill them now you've got these two plague priests right here you've got two chances to trigger a Great Plague if you do it's like a little mini blizzard 2d6 mortal wins to the face that sucks for your opponent it's great for us um then they also like they're minus one to wound if they're near Clan rats they're gonna be minus one to hit so they're a little bit more durable than people give them credit for um and just they're helping our grand chat we got to have them then if you have the points in your list instead of running one of those as a regular plague priest the new warband that just came out skavic is incredible um he's definitely worth the extra 40 points if you have it and the difference is he's a plague priest you still get the bonuses from him he can still trigger a Great Plague he doesn't get to learn a skaven prayer from the book but he has his own War scroll prayer that's even better um if you have to be within 13 inches of an objective and then he befouls an objective and everything on that objective on a four up takes D3 mortal wounds which is cool but now if you have his little companions scavics plague pack then if they are on that objective only they can contest the objective and so it's something where if you're playing in the soul light and they've got 40 zombies on an objective you cast this prayer that can't be Unbound you walk his little buddies on there and now you're one guy oh trumps all the 40 zombies and when you add in like our clan rat screens there are times where you can make it really frustrating for your opponent especially on like a mission like the pulse where you get bonus points for being on a single objective like being able to totally deny your opponent's points on that objective at all is huge so scavic if you got those extra 40 points like definitely do it um his even his buddies are really good for 40 points you're getting 10 wounds worth of guys uh the little rat does four up D3 mortal wounds there's like One sensor bear in the in the group that does pretty good damage so for 40 points like that's a unit you can go run to a board Edge and not worry about like wasting their movement going over there it's 40 points or if your opponent kills them 40 points down who cares so if you got it definitely do it going into the regular units we're gonna get into Clan rats it's the MVP of every skaven list you want to bring at least two squads of Clan rats in every list probably three if you can swing it and they're just one of the best battle line units in the game like I went over this in the last game and video we did but it's 20 dudes it's 100 points the D3 of them coming back to life helps with their bad bravery and a lot of times you can use that extra D3 opponents they don't think about that when they think about how many people are contesting the objective and so right at the very end of the turn after battle shock you're getting D3 guys back and a lot of times you can use that to swing the objective your way like all of a sudden you're adding on three extra dudes boom that's pretty big next up we got storm Berman um I'm not running these right now but the meta is pretty melee focused if it starts to shift towards shooting like we got that new Army of renown for uh KO we've got deepkin the Sharks now they're exploding hits on sixes for even their shooting attacks so if we start to see a tick up in that I might bring in some storm Berman um they're just they're a little bit more expensive than Clan rats but they've got a bodyguard function so if I want to keep that warbringer alive he shrugs wounds over to them all two up if I need help keeping those plague priests alive like now they've got a four-up truck into the storm Berman so we'll see how things play out like if it shifts that way I'll start to bring them again but right now melee builds like we don't need it just bring Clan rats the next unit is plague sensor bears and for this season like they are just incredible um it's one of those units like you're gonna hit your opponent with them blow up whatever they're gonna ask you how many points was that and you tell them oh well 10 of these guys is 180 points and like their jaw's gonna drop because they can't believe how cheap these guys are and they're right like they are too cheap I don't know how we're dodging the Rays on these guys but we'll take it um they're just so good it's 20 wounds they've got a bad save but they're minus one to be wounded in combat and they just hit like monster trucks they do incredible damage um what you do is you want to pair those up with a warp grinder I like to have at least one unit dug down deep and the warp Rider lets them pop up nine inches away anywhere on the board from an enemy and using that three claw steps charge we've got like a 70 chance of hitting the charge from Deep strike and again those two those ten guys they just do so much damage that like you've got a vampire lord on zombie dragon that's unrendable like even if I throw my warbringer in he can't kill him but like these 10 little monk dudes can just pop out of the ground and Zonk him so places are bears like pretty much a must take um I have at least one unit of 10 and dug down with the warp grinder if you want to bring a second you need a 10 or another five like I don't blame you if you wanted to do a Spam list of just these guys like it's probably gonna be great so Pike Central Bears definite thumbs up after that we got a point strap on this guy to help it he went from 200 down to 180 and again this was something we didn't need but we'll take it for 180 points again this guy is just super points efficient um it's 16 wounds on a four up save that's the enhancement you give them there is no other enhancement worth taking don't even think about it do that one um he can clear hordes just in an unbelievable way of his Avalanche of Flesh ability you charge into a unit you get to do for every model in that unit within three of him you get to roll a dice on a two up it does a mortal wound and you get to re-roll it the turn you charge so a two up re-rolling like whatever horde unit you just hit is dead from that alone and he still has six attacks at uh Ren 3 2 damage and another six attacks at Rand won three damage they're threes to hit threes to wound if you keep Screech and range that's another great target for his command ability to give him plus one to hit plus one to wound so you're doing a bucket of Mortals you're hitting on twos moving on twos again if we got that warbringer nearby that Rin 3 attack is now written four just for 180 points incredible uh the only downside is this 2d6 movement can be swingy so typically turn one if I can't send him through a novel to try and just Alpha strike somebody I'll usually use a Master Clan run to try and help him get where he needs to be so you want to roll the Run roll with somebody who doesn't matter like if I know I'm going to keep a Grace here down by my novel for the plus to cast I'll roll a run roll for him first to try and fish out a big one so if I get a six with him the first time I roll it now I can use that for the rest of my Army so I'll do that with the grace here first and then with the help hit you still get to roll your run roll and if it's good great if it's worse than the first one you used you get to replace the roll so that helps speed him up in a big way then just for the season he's just rules he's got a four up Spell ignore he heals D3 wounds every turn so like if they're hitting you with the Spells you're ignoring them they don't want to Blizzard him because it's not going to go off then you're healing D3 against any kind of chip damage that comes in he's just just awesome like if you've got the points like put them in your list then some honor roll mentions again like Doom wheels are still really good um if you don't like plug sits or bears and bourbon Lords like if you want to bring four Doom wheels and three warp lightning cannons like that's still a viable build um my problem with that personally I don't like the swinginess of it um when I was bringing Doom Wheels like sometimes you overcharge those shots and then your doom you'll just explodes um we are not the meta Powerhouse right now and so in a game where things are tough I personally feel like I can't afford those down swings so if I shoot that warp lighting Cannon and it blows up like I was a little bit behind to start now I'm really behind so that's where I'm liking the sensor Bears the HELLP head and the bourbon lord it's like these guys are just very consistent they're gonna get where I need them to be they're going to be able to do this much damage and there's no risk of them blowing themselves up and that's not to say you can't bring those units and succeed it's just there are going to be games where it goes excellent and then they're gonna be games where it goes really bad and I'd rather just kind of live in that middle Zone one other thing worth mentioning we've got the endless spells so warp lighting Vortex is still really good um on a personal level I've never had the damage really Spike for me but the potential is there it's a big Zone you can do a bunch of mortal wounds you can pop those support Heroes with it um with Primal Dyson play now it's a little bit easier for your opponent to unbind so into things like the varen guard slave's Darkness list or Gloom Spike gets where they had the squigs where they're all running and charging Vortex used to just be massive because you could cast it you do your damages whatever but the big deal is you were stopping their run because they can't run if they were in range of that vortex now with Primal dice they're going to be able to unbind it more often than not but at least now like they're having to try and unbind it and likely have to use a primal dice now you've got the Primal advantage to try and get blizzard off or make sure death frenzy goes off so even if you don't get the benefit of stopping the Run you're still getting the benefit of those like getting that Primal advantage in talking about the Primal Advantage for battalions I'm running the acolyte Battalion in all of my lists um it's the one where you get a three up you get an extra Primal Dice and since our spells are so important to us having the extra Primal dies or that Primal advantage against your opponent is really really big and so I'm putting that into every list and then for the extra spell one you run a command Entourage or warlord Battalion that one you don't necessarily have to have but for me like I am doing it I'm not going to be low drops no matter what skaven like unless you're running storm beans has never been a one drop list so I'm High Drops I'm fine I'm gonna get all the benefits I can all right then I just wanted to walk you through this is the list that I'm actually playing right now just to give you an idea of how it all comes together so first up Grand strategy I'm going that arch corrupters of the Mortal Realms uh we gotta have three Heroes alive at the end between Master Clan and pestilence we got those guys in there for the Triumph I'm going inspired that's the plus one to wound once per battle and that one I'm normally using on the plug sensor Bears uh if they come in from Deep strike sometimes they're out of range of command abilities so I can pop that give them plus one to wound just get that little bit of extra damage through then for Heroes we're doing the warbringer as our general uh he has to be the general to get devious adversary and then we give him the warp Stone charm to get the extra Rend just to help him do more damage and all the rest of our army do more damage if they're near him um that minus one Rin it applies to enemy units that are near him so like tag teaming and driving in multiple people into the same unit or units that are nearby very beneficial for us next up is Lord Screech um for him just another heavy hitter on our list he's a master Clan hero that's durable and he's got good tricks between his spell and his different stances so Lord Screech thumbs up we got two more grace ears I do skitter leap and blizzard on one that I'm doing death frenzy and blizzard on the other these are Master Clan units just like Screech to help us with the grand Strat then we've got two plague priests uh these guys one's got Phil filth which is plus one to wound for pestilence unit we're putting that onto the plug sensor bears and then the other one's rabid rabid that gives plus one to the attacks characteristic again going on those Pike sensor bears for the regular units we start things off with two squads of Clan rats uh again that's the minimum I would take if I had room for more I would put more but two squads of Clan rat they're just great battle line we need battle line to charge we need battle line to stay in combat Clan rats are excellent at that so they're in there we've got two squads of 10 plague sensor bears and again these are 20 wounds the pike priests make them battle lines so they're gonna help us score our Battle Tactics and they just do a million damage so awesome we've got one warp grinder so again I start with one squad on the board that one's normally getting all the Buffs so it's getting rabid rabid it's getting filth filth it's getting death frenzy or dreaded death frenzy we want to buff those guys to the Moon then the other squads go in with the warp grinder in deep strike we don't have heavy shooting in the list so that one deep strike threat lets us get to a back line like if they've got some Archer units back there or some support Heroes that are very important or if you're playing Beast and they've got bellicor sitting in the back line and he hasn't used dark master yet like we can drop these guys in and fish for that big nine and then just kill them so it's nice having a deep strike threat if we didn't like the old we would just be coming at you from the front and in some matchups that can be a little bit tough then we've got the help hit again the points drop like thank you we'll take it um I think that he's pretty much an auto include for me in all of my lists hits super hard 16 wounds I like having an extra monster in the list and just for 180 points this guy's killing it um after that we just got the battalions we're running the aclight Battalion for the extra Primal Dice and then we've got a command Entourage to get the extra spells and that's what let me get like I've got flaming weapon and levitate on the warbringer uh levitate's not something I'm casting all the time but if I find myself in a bad combat where I need to retreat and they've got me surrounded it gives me a skate route I can cast that out now I can fly now I can Retreat out of combat like normal um lets me get the extra blizzard the extra death frenzy on the graciers just definitely worth having in my opinion and so the overall theory on this list is it's just basically bringing five real Heavy Hitters like between the warbringer and Screech the hell Pit and the two squads of plague sensor Bears five threats that can do like real damage it's a lot for any army to deal with um I think if we try and play like a slow grindy game the other armies right now just do it better than us so I'm Coming Out Swinging like I'm just trying to come out I'm gonna kill a bunch of stuff I'm gonna kill a bunch of stuff fast to try and get ahead if I can get ahead that I can stay ahead and cruise for the rest of the game so like there are often times in some matchups where I'm gonna skitter leap a bourbon Lord app I'm gonna not hold that hell pit I'm gonna warp grinder the plague sensor Bears the other Vermin Lord's gonna move his full 12 up then we're fishing for that uh three claw steps charge if I hit it the whole Army's in and between hitting things clearing screens getting the extra Pile in from three claw steps and just good positioning there's a lot of armies where you can just take them out turn one um if not turn one like by turn two it's it's usually over and that's not the play you want to make every day right like there are some matchups where like it might be the only route to Victory but I would say on average I'm not doing that turn one um like normally turn two now like things have opened up a little bit I've got some good Avenues a good place for those plague sensor bears and deep strike to hit um but my turn to like I am going full in and I'm trying to kill your kill your opponent's Army um and the reason I'm doing that is the Battle Tactics are a little bit tougher this season so I need to be able to score like charging a hero and charging a battle line requires me to be going in um to retreat to you and charge to like I have to be going in all of the tactics require us like we've got to be in combat or getting into combat so so that's where we want to be if we try and sit back like Soul bites just gonna out body us that all the other armies have recursion and summoning like the later the game goes the stronger they get so we need to just get in there by turn two and turn three like you need to be full in and like trying to finish the game right then and there and then with five serious threats in the list like you can go ahead and boom drop all your stuff right in your opponent's face and in the kickback like they're gonna be able to kill one more often than not sometimes they'll be able to kill two of your threat units um but usually killing three isn't gonna happen especially when you consider like our Vermin Lords can Retreat out of combat so like okay you killed the warburger now watch Screech run away from you so we're not going to lose all those threats then we go to the next turn like we still have three or four threats in your face boom we're gonna finish it then other than that in the backfield like we're just taking objectives with our clan rats we want to position the gray seers behind those Clan rats you want to stay within three inches to make sure you get your shrug and run any damage that comes in and you get your look out sir but we want to make sure we're being very careful with the 12-inch blizzard range like we want to make sure if if they're going to hit one of our big threat units if we can be within 12 of that that's great we want to be like if they're going to help hit those Clan rats we want to be within 12 so we can counter punch them and same thing with the plague priests like we just want to make sure we always stay within that 13 inch range of the the plagues so if we do Spike and hit that bubonic like we want to put it into something good so that's what I'm doing for skating right now um and I'm pretty consistently getting wins even against like the soul lights and the corns and seraphons of the world so hopefully you guys can get some more wins too if you ever need more models check us out at warpymenys.com thanks for watching
