and when it's done charging the light oh it's here it's here it's here F trck it's here it's here it's here here here okay you guys going win and oh that's not wide enough am I going to be able to get this in my shotan it my mess here a little bit hey guys Z up here and I excited cuz it is starlink day we just had the FedEx trick stop by drop off our starlink mini there was the special uh email that we got because we were one of the first people on the better than beta whatever starlink we had that thing forever there's a video somewhere probably going to be in the links to show off our starlink when we first got it and this because we were part of that we were eligible for the Starling Link mini which is a roaming starlink it's tiny it's like piece of paper size and uh 30 bucks more a month on our starlink bill and we get 50 gigaby of uh internet a month anywhere in the US so we can take this thing out camping instead of lugging The Big Dish around we don't have to keep changing our address all kinds of cool stuff so let's open this thing up and see what we got there's some instructions for you let's lift this up put you down look at how tiny this is look at that okay let's get something to uh we'll do a $1 bill $1 bill size right here in the corner Focus so so there is our size comparison this thing is oh no that manyi wide this thing is pretty cool little hinge popup stand Oh I thought I broke it this is just a sheet that covers it I was like oh man I already chipped it look at this here we go Focus okay in the back here we have a power cord plug you can see it in there and here from what I've seen is an ethernet cable port [Applause] now wow you are in there aren't you okay there we go yep there's an ethernet port we're going to stick you back in there cuz I don't think I'm going to be trying to use you let's try to zoom in on some of this writing here on the bottom okay we have a dish model UTA 231 input this is what I want to see 12 to 48 volts 5 amps 60 watts it is IP67 for what like waterproof rating type four that's really all it tells me in there undo this put you back on that off nothing else in there okay so this is going to be our power cable un Zoom there we go so this is going to plug into the back of the starlink uh dish SL router right underneath there oh these even are kind of like uh earplugs like shooting ear plugs where uh they're going to keep really everything out all the dust and water and I the sound I guess that goes into that side and here is our power brick and see down into ours and this end is going to plug into that again nice and tight and then we plug this into a power outlet part number serial number model input 120 to 240 volt 1.6 amps at 50 or 60 hertz output is 30 volts 2 amps and that is 60 watts and the plug is ip66 looks like negatives on the outside and positive is on the inside see what else we got in here this looks like maybe a pole mount stick this on top of a pole tighten it up to put this on you got to pull this one off and it really just kind of Clips in there flips in and pulls out and this one this going to slide in to a spal there we go let pull that out because again not going to use it put this one back on because we are going to use that now I want to be able to stick this in a backpack and take off with it if I want to so I have this one those solar generator kind of things it's a line trck thing I got at Costco and it comes with solar panels and stuff I just did a video about this that I'm going to be able to use with this and give it power so I can be totally mobile with just that oh I'm so excited all right so let's take it outside and see if I can set it up this is just like the HK backpack that I have for my regular laptop bag and in here we have enough room for a laptop those solar panels we have enough room for the dish and for all the cables that I will need for this including that battery we're going to pull that out that and that pull the dish [Applause] out and yeah we don't need solar panels right now and got our dish here we're going to plug one end of our power cord into there like one end of our power cord into here set you up right about there mow some grass here a little bit going to plug you in to here and give it some power says we are currently using 53 no says we are currently using 47 Watts right now and I have about 3 hours of use on this so that's going to be perfect want to go do a thing well you guys can sit here and watch this isn't really going to do any tricks or anything but on the other side of the screen I'm going to show my screen for the phone and the store link app tap to update stuff update software now okay I don't know if this is for my current store link or my uh new one but we're updating something right now there we go wow I already connected to it that's cool oh you've successfully activated your starlink okay well since we're in the middle of my billing cycle it looks like I'm only paying for half of the bill automatically processed my payment as soon as I turn the thing on getting started with your mini link oh I could wrap that around the back I already have the stlink out make sure to update the app the lated version unlock all the features scan the QR code Inside the Box ah okay I gotta go back in and I don't know scan the code Inside the Box BRB books books it might already be doing its thing let's do this anyway phone bulks go to find clear view of the sky I have a clear view find Central location I have a location I am not yet starting third party router open settings oh no okay starlink mesh is our mesh Network which is now on uh fiber and is not actually starlink but it was easier to change the fiber's username and password to the old sterlink one than to reset up all of the stuff in the house so that is not it this one here that just says starlink is probably it let's click on that connected not secure sure we can make it secure okay let's go back to the starlink connecting okay next next ah starlink paired successfully your phone is connected to the starlink neck let's get your starlink connected to the internet and optimize my setup yeah let's do that uh tap for better conformance 16° off okay I need to turn this oh look at that let get you perfect that's pretty awesome what do you think right there okay done nailed it tap to finish setting up starlink Wi-Fi we're going to definitely change that name what are we going to call you we will call you s m and my password nobody luck okay we have set up our Wi-Fi and we are reloading to apply the new network settings there is our site m let's switch over to that hey and look at that we are connected to it one device there's our device check Wi-Fi range now this is the thing that I really wanted to know this cord here is only like what 15 M or something 45 ft and this thing is out in the sun it's not going to work out in the shade and I really don't want to sit out here in the Sun so let us go for a walk and check our WiFi range I'm ready okay so there is where I kind of want to be and you can see I'm already kind of losing some of my signal wonder if I'm going to lose it completely we'll find the closest shade we can okay we got some shade we are that many away okay we are getting into the pour but that far away from it I can't really see the screen anymore now we're pretty close to the end of it way over there so that's not really all that bad let's head back towards it and we will okay still showing that we're poor maybe because we're too far away Let's Get Closer pick it back up again oh there we go okay let's go out this way son let's go out to the road now we're starting to get up Sterling wipi disconnected new result let's make sure we're still on the right interwebs oh we are still on site m oh the wind is blowing look at that see these trees blowing it's crazy okay let's go back let's go back let's like a obstruction see if this thing's picked anything up yet well that's really mapped a lot look how much of the sky that thing's already mapped that pretty quick okay let's go back and let's see how much wait software update do I still need another software update update software now yeah okay let's do a speed test okay let's run advaned speed T start device to stlink that's good speed let's just do a speed test oh now we're going a little bit faster one more time just got to wait for those satellites to get in the right area I guess okay let's go back 99% of the update complete and 100 finally look at some stats just power it on network per should stabilize in about 15 minutes the only concerns I have about the starlink mini is one the power I need to find a way to run it off of a USBC so I need some kind of adapter to go from like a power bank QBC to whatever Port the dish takes now I know that I can power it normally when it gets to the Melt snow mode then I might not be able to but if I could run it off of Power Banks or off a USBC that would be amazing the other thing would be the data usage it'd be nice if it was unlimited uh 50 50 GB is not a lot it's not nothing but it's not a lot here is the data usage on a trip I took the end of last month up to a place that was definitely off grid and you can see that one day I use 13 gabt the second day I use 16 right there that's 29 gabes in 2 days now I was not worried about data usage at all because that starlink has a limited internets and then the third day was just 2.6 gab and it was basically I just took it down so you can see 30 gigabyt in just those three days used uh here's another trip that we just took for Father's Day weekend we took the starlink out to the middle of Idaho and change the address for out there and the first day the three of us downloading all of the movies and whatever that we wanted to do updating everything 21 GB of use second day was 12 third day was 12 the fourth day was 6.4 so right there is over the 50 gigabytes just using it for three 4 days on a trip out in the middle of nowhere they had no internets so 50 GB isn't really a lot I wish it was Unlimited now for a dollar per gigabyte more if we do take this out on one trip per month for couple 3 4 days and let's say that we do use a 100 gabyt of data it's really only $50 more so in the grand scheme it's not that much still would be nice if it was UN limited even at maybe a slower rate or if you could pay more for an unlimited plan otherwise this thing's awesome pretty much just going to sit in that backpack for its entire life until we go out on a couple trips and then we'll take it with us and we'll have secure high-speed internet wherever we're at well that's all I have for this video Bang around that Bell icon if you want to be notified when new
