I am having a very bad day I am in no mood this today is one of the worst days that I've had in a lunch star field has released and and I don't really know what to say I took a whole week off of editing just to play the game just to get as far as I possibly could and I finally feel like I'm ready to talk about it I was originally going to make a whole you know format for it but the more I thought about it the more I just kind of wanted to start ranting so that's what this is Starfield is a game made by Bethesda and is easily one of the most hyped games of this year a lot of people know Bethesda from there are several good RPG games like Skyrim Fallout and several several more Morrowind the list goes on and on but after the release of Fallout 4 people were skeptical as to what their next release was gonna feel like I mean especially after Fallout 76. [Music] hello regardless after eons of waiting we are finally here in Starfield is just okay it's just fine I'm in nomu I don't know man it's just there's so many things where I'm left just sitting there thinking this could have been better or this could have been executed with a lot more effort I mean right off the bat let's just get into it what is the character creation for this game for some reason every character I make just feels wrong they all have baby eyes and and baby faces there's just something that doesn't feel right I started by trying to make my own original character and after just not being pleased with it I tried to make some other character that looked a lot more badass and the customization options were just so minuscule that I just felt trapped in what I could make there's only like 11 or so options for each and every character creation aspect like 11 eyes 11 different noses and like very very small amount of changes that you can make manually and ultimately I just felt like there was a lot to be desired it just feels lazy and it feeds into this overarching problem of lack of immersion when it comes to this game for me personally when I think of immersion in a video game I think of how often I check my phone while I'm playing or how often my mind wanders to other things and that happened constantly during the course of this game it's hard to get immersed in a title when the title itself is not helping you along that path of being immersed I mean sure there is a dynamic flying system that exists that is again just okay but when the Fast Travel option can be executed while you're on a planet and when it takes out the entire purpose of flying from planet to planet it kind of doesn't make a difference what happens if you want to go to a planet across another galaxy it's not necessary to get into your ship and fly there when you can just press a couple of buttons and arrive there immediately I mean come on guys this is this is something that even no man's Sky had in the cage guys and on the note of No Man's Sky I have to bring it up because this is really just no man's sky but just in a different flavor it's almost as if Todd saw the entire debacle of No Man's Sky initially and said huh we can take that idea and actually put millions of dollars into it and actually make it playable and then just have that be a thing so then he just did that I don't know man it's just it's just draining at this point I've gotten to an area with Bethesda where I just understand what they're doing they like to make Grassroots plain games so that their modding Community can do all of the work later bad character creation oh that's fine the modding Community will add new hairstyles new eyes new looks new clothes all that will be done by the community empty baseless planets with nothing to do on them but mine minerals and walk around in the baseless area and the lifeless area that they've made that's fine the modding community that they'll use that space to make some sort of cool Quest mod in the future the only real thing that I'll give them credit for is the gun play and the ship building mechanics they're definitely appealing I guess you can say I had fun shooting and I had fun looking at the ships so I guess that's a very big Plus in their book that's just not enough man it's it's just not enough because I've said this before and I'll say it again RPGs are the hardest style of games to make because everything needs to be on point you can have the best first person shooting in the best ship building mechanics the best base building mechanics and you're not going to be deemed as a good RPG because I don't feel immersed The World Isn't enticing me that I am the person that I'm playing as and it's not enticing me to want to live more in that world and to live more in that escapism feeling I hate to bring Skyrim up all the time when I talk about Bethesda but it is clearly their biggest and best game that they're ever to make at this point when you were in Skyrim it felt how do I even describe this you truly felt like the Dragonborn the responsibilities the problems and all the politics surrounding that title really made you feel the need to continue playing and to see what happens next and because of this it was a lot easier to make yourself believe that you were playing this character you might have noticed that I haven't even broughten up the story because honestly it is just gray that's the only way I can describe it just the color gray there's no emotion there's no real feeling you could be playing as anybody really and it wouldn't make a difference and you may be thinking oh well that's the point of an RPG that anybody can be no that's not the point the problem is I don't get in my ship and think oh boy I'm about to explore a new area I'm about to see something I've never seen before I'm so excited no that never happens I get in my ship I look at my journal and see what I need to do and then I I go do it oh I have to sue people cool I had to do some random dialogue that does not feel immersive in any way I mean especially after playing Baldur's Gate 3 the dialogue is just lacking for me decisions don't really matter and they don't feel branchy they just kind of feel one note and it gives me poor flashbacks of Fallout 4. I really thought they learned a lesson here and although we don't have a voice protagonist it definitely feels like we're a couple of steps away from that okay what's next uh the perk system let's talk about the dumb ass perk system perks and skills in past Bethesda games were never treated as a thing you had to do this feels like a looter shooter with the way that they're doing their perks the XP gains are really really slow and it feels like they're padding run time which is a big pet peeve for me I don't want to feel like I'm playing a game when I'm playing an RPG okay once again you're ruining my immersion for example the early gun skills are really just based sick damage Buffs that really don't do anything other than let you get a kill slightly faster which is like on some Call of Duty zombies [ __ ] they're very mind-numbingly simple and when you level up it doesn't feel the same as when you leveled up in Skyrim as if you learned a new skill out of your experience again I don't know how they're struggling with this when they've had these same situations in past games and made them work fine none of these perks will make you feel like you're playing the game differently than your friend who maybe put their perks in another area and again that's not what role-playing is about I'm gonna bring up Baldur's Gate 3 again because I think it's a fantastic role-playing game in that game it doesn't really matter what your perks are put into it doesn't really matter what your class is what matters is how you want to make your character and because of that your experience in the game can be very different from your experience from whoever else may have been playing the game it's not oh look I do 20 more damage oh look I can lock pick now golly why do we need to go through this exercise every time oh let me invest a perk in scanning distance scanning distance seriously it just feels like the most building block basic simple ass rudimentary ass dumbass it's just boring it's just boring I don't want to work towards wanting to scan farther or to shoot harder or to I don't know jump higher have more oxygen it just feels it just feels taxing but who am I kidding right we'll just wait for the modding Community to fix it they'll fix everything right they'll fix everything they'll fix the game they'll fix the gameplay they'll fix the RPG elements they'll add new quests they'll add new worlds they'll add new NPCs they'll add new companions they'll add new this they'll add new that they'll add new this they'll add new that they'll add new this they'll add new I'm done I'm done Bethesda I'm done trusting that you're actually trying to make anything and honestly I'm not very excited for test six that's right I said it I'll be the First on YouTube to say it I'll yell it out into the hey I'm not excited for the new uh Elder Scrolls game does anybody does everybody hear me I'm not excited I'm not excited I'm not excited uh next week will be a video about Harry Potter and that the whole series and how I you know the feeling I have behind it that's what the next week's video is going to be I'm out of here I'm not going to think about Starfield for now I'm going to finish the game and then I'm going to wait for the modding Community to do what they do but that that best which is fix the game fix the game modding Community that's that's all we can hope for now
