-Uh, good evening. I'm Ismo, and, yes, I am from Finland. Uh, yay! [ Crowd cheers ] Oh! I -- I -- I moved to America a few years ago, and it's been great, but English is not my first... I don't know if you know this yet, uh, but it's my second language. I -- I grew up speaking Finnish. It's -- It's -- It's very common in, uh, Finland. [ Laughter ] And, uh -- And English, it's not easy for me, because it's so different. I think the hardest part of English has been all the silent letters. Uh, h-have you -- have you heard about them? [ Laughter ] "Heard." [ Laughter ] English is full of letters that are -- are silent. Like, you know -- Like letters that -- that you write down, but never say. [ Laughter ] Like, write it down, but -- but, "Hush." [ Laughter ] Like, "This letter is only for the paper." [ Laughter ] "It's not for your mouth." [ Laughter ] "It's a silent letter." We don't have those. In -- In the Finnish language, we don't have those. We only have out-loud, uh, letters. [ Laughter ] And we call them, uh, letters. -Yeah. [ Chuckles ] -Maybe it's just me, but I feel that silent letters are, like, unnecessary? [ Laughter ] Like wasting paper? [ Laughter ] Like, I don't want to say the silent letters are dumb, 'cause I might accidentally say that they are dum-b. [ Laughter ] Uh, but, uh -- But here's an idea. Since there's so many silent letters in English, why not also then have silent numbers? [ Light laughter ] I think those would be far more useful. Like, "I owe you $75. Ah, but the '7' is silent."
