Staircase Transformation | Interior Design | Fix it Fridays #13

remember the home I showed you where I help my friend with a condo we actually spent I took the square footage of what we made a difference in and I divided it up by how much money we spent we spent one dollar and fifty cents per square foot in today's episode of fix of Friday we spent one thousand dollars per square foot this project was done 12 years ago not kidding all right but you're going to learn design principles that are still applicable today they had a really nice house they did every upgrade that you could possibly do in this house and they did their own decorating let's just say she should have been part of my design sessions series here you have some before pictures you'll notice this is this great floor that they have and they had put in some very nice sconces but in my opinion they were up way too high and a beautiful staircase this is around what we call a round turret entry what's interesting about this is these stairs you see the scissor sidestep all the way up down up across across across and then this is ready-made iron railing which I'm sure they paid a lot for I remember the client telling me they had done the upgrade in the ceiling do you know how much that turret ceiling was I remember because it left a lasting impression $60,000 for that upgrade will imagine how the client felt when my cabinet builder came in and said oh do you know how they made that ceiling how they just nailed up cabinet doors going okay that's all they needed to hear to go oh my gosh and right here you can see the two niches the sconces and then that is a view of the living room you see this furniture leave me a comment below and let me know if you want to see what I did to this living room to fix that I felt like if there was something that could connect them perhaps a wainscot that I could add to the walls and I wasn't going to add it as low as that I would bring it up a bit and then I was going to add height to this with some crown molding on top to beef it up a little bit now of course I needed to wood panel this entrance to the living room as well I thought that this was really a nice feature and if they had taken that drywall and attached it and covered up the side so you would no longer see the sides of the stairs but that drywall would literally just go all the way down wouldn't it be pretty if we took the look of this tile here and we added it we put it on the stairs so no longer would they be wood stairs they would be stone stairs now look how the wood flooring does not seem to stand out so much it actually blends in with all the other beautiful wood you see the new ceiling here the coffered ceiling this is completely cut and mitered all the way around in a triangular shape as opposed to the triangle just being cut off and running into the border edge and then cleaner line sconces down here a beautiful sculptural piece of art as opposed to what we had before which was a wood board look at this beautiful hand forged iron work that Lewis did and let's not miss this aspect you see how beautiful that is once we got rid of the side step look of those stairs and no amount of space goes wasted on a ropes and design project let's take a look at that bookcases underneath the staircase pretty yeah and each shelf is licked each one of these things on here are glued out don't you love these hidden like pockets and when you take a hold of one of these shelves BAM you can open that door and surprise so guys the bride the clients were so thrilled when they walk into their home and they saw it the night of the reveal let me just say this house is absolutely drop-dead gorgeous okay I'm done all right you guys I'll see you guys next time remember to subscribe if you're not subscribed share these videos with your friends your loved ones share them on Facebook follow us on Instagram and be sure to give this video a like we'd love it when you give us a thumbs up okay thanks for joining me and I will see you on the next edition of fix it Fridays right
