alright guys this is gonna be a good one ah I'm not trying to start controversy here I'm trying to share some real experiences so hopefully I can save you guys the trouble that I went through this video is gonna be about putting your equipment away for winter and specifically stable fuel additive versus a relatively new product to market called true fuel a couple things I gotta say first number one none of these brands are sponsoring me it's very important that I say that number two I have no connection with either one of these brands this is they're not paying me to say this this is 100% my experience it's more than my opinion because it's a real experience and I'm gonna share with you guys what I'm gonna do and the change that I'm gonna make and hopefully you know you benefit from it I'm gonna stop using one of these products and I'm gonna start using the other one but that does not mean there's necessarily anything wrong with one it is not my intent to bash either of these two products with that being said let's jump right into it hey if you're new here grass & garden TV lawn care outdoor gardening indoor hydroponics check out my videos consider subscribing and right here my Instagram handle grass and garden check now Instagram as well if you follow me on Instagram and you go back to April on my Instagram feed you will see that I have a post where I had a problem with the fuel or I had a problem with my John Deere Z nine one five be easy track running so here's exactly what happened I was always taught that when you put your equipment away you do two things number one hopefully we are in focus here we might not be in focus I don't know number one you add the correct amount of stable fuel treatment to a gas can five gallon gas can or what not mix it up thoroughly and then you fill the tank on your lawnmower and then you run the machine so that you now bring that treated fuel treatment through the fuel system the carburetor the lines the fuel filter all of that the other thing that you do that I was taught was that you fill the tank all the way and basically the reasoning there is that if it's full by volume there's no room for condensation to develop over the winter you know in the cold and thus deposit water into your tank okay that's what I've always been taught that's what I've always done and that's what I did last winter the winter of 2016 the piece of equipment we're talking about was brand new it's um it's a 2016 John Deere Z track z9 150 when I put it away it had like 25 hours on it okay so I did exactly that I treated the fuel with the stable filled the tank put it away so that was in let's call it late November Thanksgiving I took it out in April and all types of problems with with my mower the engine it wouldn't run it wouldn't run under load so you know it would start but as soon as you you know went to full throttle and engaged the PTO to turn the mower deck on it would not run at all I keep a spare fuel filter on hand so I immediately changed the fuel filter and that did not fix the problem I pulled all the plugs I checked the plugs I clean the plugs I gapped the plugs I reinstalled the plugs that was not the problem go back and check out my Instagram you'll see I had some pretty good conversations with guys going on Instagram and the consensus was sounds like you know your fuel has gone bad Mike and a lot of guys were saying man stable just doesn't work like used to now I don't have any specific data to back this up I know we all know the fuel now has ethanol in it and I don't know if it didn't used to have ethanol in it or has more ethanol in it now but to me from a generic standpoint the quality of the gasoline you get at the pump to me seems not as good as it used to be or maybe the fact that it sure as heck doesn't last as long as it used to be so a lot of guys would say Mike listen stable just doesn't work like it used to you got it just you got to get rid of that tank of fuel and you're gonna fix your problem I didn't want to drain the fuel out because that holds like 11 gallons of fuel so you know I'm gonna drain that out and you know hope it evaporates somewhere no I just said I got a run through this so I did I ran through it and it was in a horrible because that's a lot of gasoline and so once I burned that tank of fuel filled the mower up with fresh fuel I always buy 92 or 93 at the pump not necessarily because I think these little engines need the octane rating but just simply because I guess it makes me feel better to just I'm just trying to put the best gas in it that I can I don't know if that really makes a difference I think maybe it does call for 89 versus 87 whatever I filled up with a 92 or 93 fresh gas and the motor rain great it ran great all season no issues so yeah I believe I had bad fuel I don't know if that was because the stable didn't do its job I don't know maybe I just really had bad fuel I don't think so because it's the same gas I buy at the same pump and run it in my cars and everything else and I didn't have any other issues with anything so it's really important that I say this guys I'm not making the video to bash stable and in fact what I would love is if somebody jumped in in the comments below and told me your story both good or bad whether it be from a real world perspective or whether it be from engineering perspective or chemistry perspective or maybe someone from stable sees the video and you want to chime in below again I'm not trying to tell the world oh you know this is this this stuff doesn't work anymore that's all I'm trying to do I'm trying to share with you what happened and now I'm trying to tell you I'm making a change and I did already the big change in fact check this out the big change is this right here this is the future lithium ion and ultimately what I can only imagine will be fuel cell technology batteries so I have the ego blower and I have the ego string trimmer and this is not a plug for ego but it's fantastic and I know all the big brands have battery powered stuff now we'll walk you through the wall Makita everybody has battery-powered stuff because this stuff is fantastic so that's really the way of the future so no more little engines like that for me I'm going battery powered stuff for all that but listen my you know a 60-inch commercial mower still runs on gasoline so what do I have in my shop here on my property that needs gasoline I still have a 21 inch Itoro push mower I got the big John Deere I've got a steel still is it steel or still I don't know backpack blower BR 600 and I've got a nice MS 290 still chainsaw I also have a 2000 watt Yamaha generator and I have a 5100 that's all the stuff that I use that has gasoline and here's the change that I'm gonna make my objective now is not to put this equipment away full of fuel because if the gas goes bad it's too it's too big of a hassle to try to deal with that volume of bad fuel so I'm gonna take my chances with the condensation in an empty tank and instead what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna use this it's not I know it's probably not focusing right there but this is a product called true fuel this is just a fuel product so this is for four-stroke or for cycle engines and this is a premix this happens to be a 50 to one they also have a 40 to one my BR 600 backpack blower mi amice to 90 or 50 to 1 so that's a premix with the fuel and oil for two-stroke or two cycle engines I'm gonna use that and here's what I'm gonna do I'm gonna run the equipment completely out my blower my chainsaw my push mower my big mower my generators I'm gonna run them dry run them dry drain the carburetors out and then I'm gonna put whether they're the four cycle or the two cycle I'm gonna put the true fuel in and that's how I'm gonna put them away for the winter time so do I have any real-world experience with the true fuel I've got real-world experience with the stable but what about this true fuel well here's what I can tell you I don't have real-world experience with the long-term storage of it if you if you start doing your research online YouTube videos or even articles written online the reviews are absolutely fantastic surprisingly I was looking on here try and see what is the shelf life or maybe with maybe more appropriately the storage life and I don't see it written on there anywhere it is labeled to be ethanol free and I think that's a big part of the problem is the ethanol so these two products are labeled to be ethanol free I'd like to see how long it's gonna last in storage specifically my generators are the two items that just sit and don't get used unless I need them in a you know a storm power outage caused by a storm I am very diligent about starting them about once a quarter and running them let's talk about the experience I do have with the true fuel I put the four cycle fuel into my Yamaha generator and my Honda generator man they started right up like first Pole and they just ran and sounded great as if the engines really liked this fuel that's the only experience I could give you with that I can I put the the 52 one into my BR 600 my steel backpack blower and I've been running that past couple of weeks using the 52 one true fuel and I can tell you it runs fantastic it doesn't appear to be running too hot if you read the true fuel can it says it's approved by all the major brands Ecco steel what not meaning that the lubrication is approved by them hopefully that's true I can tell you that the engines run great with a true fuel product so that's it I'm gonna keep using them this is what I'm gonna do this winter if you watch a previous video and I'm gonna link to that right up here I'm basically you know I've got two or three days November 7th maybe I've got two or three Mo's left with the big John Deere so I've got like less than an eighth of a tank of fuel in it because my objective is on that last mow I want to run it dry and then I'll take you know a gallon or less half a gallon or the four-stroke and the four cycle true fuel I'll put that in start the mower let that work its way through the fuel system that's how I'm putting it away for the winter I'm taking my chances with condensation I don't think it's gonna be too big of a deal and that's it guys that's that's my rant I wanted to get this video produced and published now because November 7th I mean you know we've all got in the Northeast anyway we've got a few more weeks and we're putting our stuff away for a winter this true fuel I'm getting at Home Depot check it out it's not cheap that is a downside that's actually a real downside you're not gonna go and run this stuff all year long it's very expensive I think that um this size right here which is 110 fluid ounces or 3.25 liters I want to say that's 20 bucks at Home Depot don't don't hold me to that twenty twenty-five something like that so yeah you're not gonna run that all year long but listen the big test you know subscribe to this channel stick with me through the winter we're gonna do all types of cool stuff with hydroponics this winter by the way but come April when I take this equipment out of the garage and fire it up man that's gonna be the true test and we're gonna see did I make the right decision I think I am making the right decision it's what I'm gonna do this season hey guys thanks for taking the time to watch the video if this helps if you created value for you do me a favor hit that thumbs up button share this video with a friend who you think might benefit from this subscribe thank you I'll see on the next one
