picture this the year is 1987 Amazing Spider-Man Annual issue 21 just dropped AKA The Wedding everything up to this point is going perfect for old Spider-Man well as perfect as they can be for the web head and despite a few bumpy roads readers have gotten to watch this angsty little shite grow to a mature married and respected man and uh Spider-Man yeah that's not awkward to say or anything now Imagine This the year is 2007 spidey's hot off the hills of Spider-Man 3 met with uh shall we say lukew criticism but not to worry it was still a huge financial success so while you wait for Spider-Man 4 Why not pick up the new Amazing Spider-Man issu 544 yep that's right everyone we're talking about one more day because if there's one thing the internet needs more of it's Spider-Man fans angry at this oh and uh also video essayists the internet needs more video essayists so with that in mind I thought i' would throw my hat in the ring and give my two cents it sucks no no in all seriousness one more day is a four-part miniseries released during the events of Civil War where Peter you know what I don't think I need to go into too much detail it's a super notorious run and basically Spidey sells his marriage to the devil to save a dying Millennium year old anme who looks like even if she wasn't dying of a gunshot disease a light Breeze would put her out of a misery I mentioned earlier that this run isn't very popular and you can probably see why see one more day didn't just erase Peter and MJ's marriage it Stripped Away fundamental character gr for both Spidey and Mary Jane expecting readers to just forget decades worth of Storytelling and evolution and it's just so Peter Parker can go back to being an irresponsible a-hole who still lives with his aunt and why is she still alive now now before we get our panties in a Twist I'm I'm not saying all modern Spider-Man is bad there have been a few pieces of gold scattered throughout superior Spider-Man being one that comes to mind but if you flip through a recent Spider Run it's pretty clear to see just how much damage one more day continues to do to the character it almost seems like at this point Marvel just can't get enough of finding new ways to sabotage Peter so that he's more relatable yeah I don't know either I mean call me crazy but the Marvel just have a fetish for this thing it's starting to seem like it at this point but what if I told you there was a Spider-Man story out there where Peter Parker not just changes and evolves but he grows up Spider-Man life Story released in 2019 is a six isue miniseries written by chips andari and Mark Bagley if those names sound familiar they probably should see chips and DKI wrot the brilliant Spectacular Spider-Man and his Daredevil was look just read his Daredevil and Mark Bagley well he did a small little run called Ultimate Spider-Man I don't know maybe you've heard of it let's just say his art on that book was uh ultimate now if those names alone went enough to sell you then check this out then how about a story that doesn't have to do with the absolute Menace of the 616 continuity that's right this is a self-contained good old Spider-Man story see being independent from the main ASM Universe allows chips and DKI to basically do whatever wants taking key moments from Spider-Man's history and recontextualizing it with each issue being defined by certain decade now I'm going to give a very rough overview of the entire Series so please do note this video contains heavy spoilers at the same time this is a very condensed version of life story so if you haven't read it please do yourself the favor it's well worth the [Music] [Applause] time [Applause] [Music] we start at issue one in the early 1960s the Vietnam war is kicked off and lines are being drawn with the likes of Captain America siding with the Vietnamese yeah you couldn't do that in the 60s and Iron Man naturally repping the home team Peter is only young here and he's still getting the hang of the whole spidermanning but the constant anxiety of War and the fear of in action really drives the story forward with the likes of Flash Thompson leaving for war and Peter feeling guilty that Spider-Man isn't doing his part on top of all this old Peter is typically always late and he's struggling to balance the Spider-Man life with his relationship Gwen Stacy maybe you've heard of her one thing I'd like to mention is just how fantastic Peter has written in this issue he's still your lovable doky guy just trying to make his way but one thing zaski never forgets is the underlining edge of the character see in the comics Peter's always had a slight chip on his shoulder and every now and then he's not afraid to let folks know with Peter even straight up mocking flash wanting to join the war during the guy's farewell party ouch Peter only to be completely shocked when he's told flash just believes that's what Spider-Man would do now old crazy Norman also happens to be at this party and he takes our boy Pete aside to let him know he's basically rigged Flash's entire party to blow revealing to Pete that he's figured out the whole secret identity thing this naturally leads to a good oldfashioned Spider-Man the Green Goblin brawl where Peter basically beats the goblin out of this man yeah I'm not joking either so yeah solid intro that establishes exactly what it needs to with the characters and the story it's trying to tell I'm not going to go into too much detail with issue one at least compared to the later issues in the series it is a pretty bug standard Spider-Man story and it's at a stage in the characters lives where I feel like most Spider-Man fans are pretty familiar with bog standard isn't to say it's bad it's a solid intro and it does an excellent job of establishing the the status quo for these characters if you can say they have a status quo in this series one thing I'd like to add is the conversation Spider-Man has with Captain America towards the end it's a really nice moment between the two and it gives us a good look into what exactly is going on in Cap's head with the guy basically waking up from one war to find himself in another and this one he doesn't exactly agree with either he also gives Pete some really nice advice about the whole Vietnam situation and it leavs the groundwork for Peter's thoughts throughout the entire series to come oh Al so one other thing Peter totally misses flash Thompson's train you know the one he's going on to go off to war and while him and Gwen Stacy are having an argument about it she kind of finds out he's wait for it [Music] Spider-Man we pick up with issue 2 a Whole Decade after the first first issue so already right off the bat zadarski subverts Expectations by actually aging the characters the first page or so of the issue opens up with a much older looking Pete standing in front of a grave flash Thompson's grave yeah that's right unfortunately everyone's favorite high school bully didn't make it back from the war Peter's obviously struggling to let this go beating himself up for missing that last chance to see flash so at this point in Peter's life he's married to Gwen Stacy and currently working for the one and only Reed Richards at the Future Foundation what's this Peter is married and he has a responsible job zasi you crazy man what will you think of next now this issue is where we begin to deviate a little further from the original 616 timeline it's 1977 and naturally the Vietnam war is still ongoing with the likes of War Machine and giant man stepping to Aid the Americans meanwhile Captain America is basically an outlaw of the US and continuing to fight against his own country we get a bit more insight into Peter Parker's thoughts on the whole current events with a lovely panel between Reed and Peter debating the ethics of superheroes inserting themselves into these giant world events Peter believes naturally that with great power comes great responsibility while Reed believes that they're not Mortals anymore and that it's not right for them to play God we're also shown that in this universe Dr Octopus is actually a decent bloke yeah that's right uto is actually with ar in this universe which isn't that far off from 616 yeah they get together in that timeline as well and he's really cool in this issue like the dad I never had cool we also find out Gwen has a new job as a geneticist working with her and Pete's old teacher Professor Warren at a fancy startup company they've even managed to regrow lost limbs of cloning Tech and basically cure a one-arm Curt preventing the lizard yeah I'm sure this job will be fine but what about our lovable Side characters Harry Osborne and Mary Jane well they're dating and it's the 70s so so drugs honestly can't say I blame Harry when the past two issues have just been him getting constantly manipulated by his psycho dad who thinks his best friend is like the perfect son yeah this story really hemmers home just how abusive the whole Osborne relationship is honestly just poor Harry and MJ well she's working as a DJ in NC and basically thinks Pete's a bit of AR square one interesting thing about Peter and MJ's relationship in this series is that while she's still the Girl Next Door she basically worked out Pete's been spy since he was 15 I mean yeah she was his nextdoor neighbor for most his life so it makes sense and honestly it's an interesting change to the usual dynamic between the two what's even more interesting is MJ is kind of sick of his crap see even if he is Spider-Man blowing off too many people has consequences and while MJ can see that yes he is saving people he's also a pretty friend and she does have every right to be annoyed his flakiness MJ lashing out at Peter like this causes our Spidey guy to uh get a little angsty he basically goes to work the next day in a not so friendly neighborhood mood and gets into a slap fight with Reed in all seriousness Pete just can't stand to see Reed hog all these life-altering inventions to himself inventions Peter believes could actually do some good yet again zaski shows that Peter doesn't always just let people walk over him and sometimes a bad time can cause him to lash out and anger it's a nice way to humanize the swell guy and keeps true to the roots of good old Stan and Steve also we get one of the greatest lines in comic books you're so not human that even your wife left you for a man under the sea this of course leads Spider-Man to quickly become no job man but not to worry as Professor Warren already offered Pete a job before so he decides to work in genetics alongside his wife Gwen who nothing bad will ever happen to ever I I don't know why why do you keep saying this now back to Harry see as I mentioned before poor Harry has been tormented by his father throughout both issues of life story and understandably the guy breaks like I'm I'm going to dress up as the black Goblin and Rampage Three Gwen's now also Peter's workplace breaks now in all seriousness what actually causes the goblin back to break for Harry is learning Norman was never going to give Harry the company after he's retiring oh and by the way that whole genetic upstart company that was created and funded by Norman also he cloned himself to frame his crimes on himself which Harry knew about what he didn't know about was the Peter clone his father created to be Norman's successor or the fact that old Mr Professor war and also clone Gwen because uh well yeah weird so while Harry is an absolute Goblin mode Spidey swings in as usual to clean up the mess only to also discover Norman's favorite pastime cloning Peters Harry decides to pull an Oppenheimer style and the lab when tells Peter to go save the Clones because he's uh well he's Spider-Man to which of course he obliges upon discovering the Clone wreckage Peter finds his clone is still alive unfortunately the the other two Norman and clone Gwen didn't make it so at this point if you've read the clone saga you can kind of see where it's going it's a little confusing to explain but compared to the actual clone saga it's about as thorough as Lord of the Rings World building wait did I say confusing well hold on to your spandex because it also turns out as explained by Professor weirdo the Clone Gwen who died in the explosion was actually the real Gwen and the real Gwen as in the one Peter has been married to is the clone of Gwen yeah as I said before this still makes way more sense than the actual continuities clone run so that's actually how issue 2 ends there is a Time skip of about a year towards the end where they established Peter's clone has taken on the name of yep you guessed it Ben Riley meanwhile clone Gwen now Helen has decided to take on a new life her and Peter both separating after the whole clone reveal with Peter unable to accept his clone is completely gone along with his best friend end job don't worry Pete it could be worse uh yeah little bummer of an ending there in all seriousness I adore this issue from the way it progresses the characters from last issue and just sosi's writing of Peter in general it's a really nice Twist on the clone saga and honestly the fact that even understandable let alone great compared to the original mess of a clone saga is an achievement in and of itself it also managed to stand out on its own rather than just completely retrade the same continuity but with an 80s spin the changes it makes to not only MJ but Gwen is a huge breath of fresh air usually we all know what happens to Gwen in Canon so it's nice to see her somewhat get to live a decent life in the end even if it is at the expense of the real Gwen and Peter saki while I haven't spoken too much about Peter and MJ yet I want to quickly take the time before we move on to the next decade you see in the 616 Universe MJ and Peter's relationship is almost built on the death of Gwen Stacy and I don't mean that in a morbid way rather it was the moment between the two of them that allowed Peter to finally drop his guard and let MJ in by grieving together all this to say to end issue two with the both of them grieving like this just goes to show how TR zaski can stick to the core of these characters while making good changes when he needs [Music] to so naturally because it's the 80s we're going to be getting into some real angsty Edge issue three opens up with Mary Jane giving birth that's right Peter and MJ now married couple and yet MJ is petus at the hospital with only a May being at a side to witness the birth of two Parkers now poor old anme isn't exactly with it anymore either yes it seems old age can actually catch up to anme and it's actually quite sad to see her in this state it's pretty safe to assume that Aunt May has dementia she isn't featured to heavily in this series so it hits especially hard to have her appearance from her be this now if you guess that Spider-Man had something to do with the lack of Peter being present for the birth of his kids well good job because that's half right the other reason being that teeny tiny event called uh Secret Wars I'm not going to go too much into this as the secret Wars are mainly an event to establish the black suit and the fact that Peter is a little old now and looks like he needs a lot of coffee eventually as you expect Peter ends up with the Symbio costume however it does have a nice twist you see on this secret War planet is a device that can essentially make whatever you think the heroes basically use it to restock in between the fighting since Peter lensley is getting a little slower in his old age he would also love nothing more than just to be home with his family this Magic Machine pumps out the iconic symbiote suit we eventually end up back on Earth and now that the secret Wars have passed Peter can finally return home to his wife and actually meet his children for the first time oh and also one small thing Peter's actually kind of successful as in he runs Parker industry successful he also works with Reed now rather than for Reed and speaking of Reed there's a really nice moment in this issue where Peter remarks that while Reed is a good friend he also reminds Peter this is who he can become if he focuses so much on work and Spider-Man alone like Reed with no family barely any friends a dark mirror to Peter Parker in every sense this is just we learn a little later during a conversation between Reed and Peter that Spider-Man has a copycat killer on the loose that's right baby we're doing Craven's last hunt well all this is going down we see in a couple of panels that due to the looming fear of the Cold War and nuclear destruction a lot of the top superheroes on earth have basically effed off for good naturally this has the opposite effect of preventing a nuclear war and the Soviets unleash missiles and superhuman Communists on those capitalist pigs what American superheroes do remain do what they can to stop the world from blowing itself up with vision barely managing to deter a nuke to a nearby smaller town uh good job I guess back at The Parkers we see Mary Jane and Peter having a pretty nasty screaming match while their kids cry in the background see MJ is upset that Pete's just been disappearing so many times as Spider-Man leaving her to look after the kids and literally clean up Pete's mess at this this point in the series we begin to see the more well-known effects of the negative symbiote ver its ugly head the usual things like aggression and just being a general a-hole honestly it's just sad to see these two fight like this in such a raw manner especially with the kids in the background it really drives home just how much Spider Man strains this family the black suit can often be used as an analogy for drugs by the comics and cartoons and zaski follows that Trend here as well with Peter basically lamenting that he needs it to keep up in his old age Craven in the story is basically used here es opeda can confront this fear see Craven believes Spider-Man needs to be put out of his misery that he's an old age he's only getting slower and it's best to give him a good death than to let him continue like a sick puppy okay kind of dark there Craven he does manage to take Peter down in a similar fashion to the last Hunt storyline stabbing and poisoning the guy before dumping him in a grave of course this isn't the end for the web head as he telepathically reaches out to the Symbiote yeah he can do that the suit jumps to Peter and brings him back from the dead and just look at this panel look at it that is all now before Peter can unleash his in a MJ does manage to find and subdue Spidey using a Sonic a meta Peter Built beforehand since Tony learns from his mistakes with with what where did he come from issue three wraps up here with a final panel of Craven about to iron in your mouth and pull the trigger however before he can do it we see a frame of the Symbiote preventing it h I'm sure that won't be an issue for [Music] later all right so at this point Pete's getting old it's the 9s and he's still running these company Parker Industries however him and MJ have basically separated she moved out with the kids and it looks like Peter and Jessica Jones have a bit of a fling this does make sense to me as in the 616 continuity him and Jessica did go to school together and they are the same age besides Peter at this point is a lot more mellow and worn down from the constant crime fighting so the idea of him and Jessica having a fling at this point isn't too weird for the guy we also get a little moment between Tony Stark and Peter and showing Tony never actually stopped making weapons he's actually pretty much the same guy he was 30 years ago it's a nice way to contrast Peter with another superhero rich guy Tony even straight up rubs it in Peter's face that MJ moved and took the kids okay bro next we see a rampaging Dr Octopus now now now I know what you're thinking wasn't Auto a good guy in this world and basically Pete's stepdad the last time we saw him well yes but him and may did separate before her death and at this point in the story artme has been dead for a little while the loss of his Lifelong Love as well as the mortality of old age setting in Otto finds a way to convince himself it's Peter's fault May and AO separated prior to her passing however instead of old Peter Parker showing up to deal with crazy though we're actually introduced to Ben Riley again he's doing a not so great job of keeping his promise a decade earlier and laying low just like classic Peter Ben just can't help not helping people they are the same person after all now of course Peter Parker does eventually show to the scene but we can really tell at this point he's just not the same webslinger he once was the passion for the job just isn't there anymore he's tired and at this point the idea of just being a Dependable Family Guy is what he Longs for and it's not just poor Pete's mental fortitude that's starting to wear but his body as well struggling to lift things he was once capable of clearing with ease zidi does a brilliant job yet again of conveying just how exhausting all this would be to a man who's so far past his prime it's just another excellent example of humanizing Peter in a way we've rarely seen if it all in the main continuities timeline the two Spider-Man end up being knocked unconscious in the scuffle with dook and wake up in some sort of creepy villain lab all right so get ready for this crazy reveal oh and I forgot to mention uh Harry's is also here see it turns out Ben Riley is actually the real Peter Parker yep that's right they even included arguably the worst part of the Clone run this run is just built different Ben loses his poor mind hearing this and breaks out almost killing Otto before coming to just before unfortunately though Dr Otto did I say I say Dr Otto Dr Octopus strikes One Last Time aiming for Peter uh the Clone Peter not Ben Riley you you know the real Peter in a similar vein to Spider-Man 3 Harry leaps in front of Peter and takes the blow straight up being impaled by oto's arm man I just can't help but feel terrible for Harry his life has been nothing but a constant Nightmare and he still goes out trying to save his best friend it's a really beautiful moment and a nice reminder that at the very end these two were brothers who loved each other rest in peace Harry we skip a little bit ahead and find Peter and Ben talking on a rooftop Peter hands Ben a bunch of documents and BAS basically hands over the keys to his life assuring Ben that he's the real Peter Parker now go live his life I actually love this it makes total sense given the mindset Peter's at and from what we've seen of Ben he hasn't been beaten down by life he still has that Vigor for being Spider-Man however before we wrap everything up this issue Peter still has a little unfinished business to take care of see Peter manages to get Jessica Jones to track down his old Arch Enemy Norman Osborne this scene is by far one of my favorite moment moments in all of Spider-Man Peter walks into Norman's secret hideout giving absolutely no shits this is a Peter who's old and tired and full of everyone's crap we cut to him and Norman having a conversation where Peter basically breaks the news that Harry's dead yeah that's right in Norman's constant obsession with Peter he had zero idea his son was ever gone and Peter lets him know in a beautifully cathartic scene and also and I promise this is the last clone twist it turns out Peter is indeed the original see the guy's just been tricked one too many times and he wasn't going to take anyone at their word without running any tests and it turns out Norman was just trying to get Pete One Last Time Norman lashes out after hearing about Harry and the fact that his clone conspiracy failed but the old guy winds up giving himself a heart attack his last words telling Pete he straight up hates the guy like it needed to be said I mentioned earlier this scene is one of my favorites in the history of Spider-Man and that's because I just love seeing these two characters get some sort of closure it's a very fitting end for Norman Osborne in my opinion it's not Grand like getting impaled by your own glider it's just a simple heart attack that does this guy in Norman dies alone because of his absolute obsession with power and Peter Parker we end this issue with Peter pulling up to a mysterious home a home revealed to belong to Mary [Music] Jane [Music] so this issue opens up straight into the action where we see Ben Riley duking it out with a familiar foe yep that's Moren all right and he's a little grumpy since he's hungry as Morin and Ben duke it out Moran discovers this guy ain't the OG in fact he can't even Feast on the dude's weird spider totem Powers so he breaks Ben's neck and straight up murders the guy on TV yeah so this issue is brutal but what about Peter well he's a straight up hunk I mean look at this guy in all seriousness Peter's finally a totally devoted family man and oh my God is it a sight to see we even get to see his kids as teenagers this is all just I might cry Pete's also just working as an electrician nothing fancy honestly I never thought of this job for Peter but it totally works for the workingclass Spider-Man Vibes we also find out during a conversation between Peter and his daughter CLA that a civil war between superheroes is Raging on with Peter choosing to just stay out of this one yeah can't blame him there right we cut to finding Peter rushing inside to catch the news as Ben's death is revealed and also Pete's identity as Spider-Man yeah in another funny twist Peter's identity still manages to get spoiled and it's all thanks to Civil War I mean this is even when the guy actively stays away if that's not classic parku I just don't know what is oh and also yes Civil War see in this timeline the events of 9/11 actually inspired Tony to create the superhero registration act in response to the growing fear of terrorism that pretty much engulfed America in the early 2000s it's a really smart way to continue to link these pivotal moments in Co book history with real world events so Peter's reaction to this [ __ ] guy is probably not what you expect but it makes total sense for his age the guy lets his family know that he's going to try and run away perhaps [ __ ] will follow him and he'll be a to keep his family away from danger now Pete's daughter CLA speaks up for us all by telling the guy that he's still Spider-Man he's still has that responsibility to do the right thing we even get a flashback to 9/11 where we see Peter lifting the rubble to help First Responders so the way The Parkers decide to handle this debacco is surprisingly clever Peter decides to go to Betty brand and he straight up L dumps to the world because why not the real reason actually is to let Mullen know Peter Parker is actually alive and come eat me sort of deal unfortunately for old Peter the Civil War has other ideas and Tony Stark basically ambushes Peter to let him know if you're not with me me then you're my enemy Peter actually tells Tony to straight up drop dead also is it just me or does Peter look a lot like Uncle Ben here I can't say it was done on purpose but I wouldn't be surprised if it was honestly it's just a great look for an old Spider-Man in classic superhero fashion this confrontation ends in a punching match with it being revealed that Tony has his own little iron Avengers a aren't they cute fortunately for Peter Captain America and the rest of his team show up to Aid spot not forgetting that Pete's kind of a smart guy zaski has pet to come up with a new type of Gadget that pretty much exploits Iron Man's one weakness he's a paranoid mess see Pete deduced that the only reason Tony would give these guys iron suits is if they had some sort of fail safe which Peta naturally exploits to put an end to the Civil War Well for now we get a really nice moment at the end of the fight between Spidey and cap keep in mind at this point in the story The last time we saw these two talk was in the' 60s cap basically says thanks for the help kid to which Peter reminds him it's been a long time we're old men now well this is nice and old but I feel like we're forgetting something ah yes that's right morand's hungry and while Peter's been out cleaning up the Civil War mess morand decided now is a great time to grab a quick afternoon snack at the Parker residence we're shown here that Pete's kids Claire and Benjamin actually did inherit the spider powers from Peter and while they hold their owner reasonably well there's still no match for this Titan lucky Ben is Al a pretty smart fell much like his father and is also able to work out that Molen can be hurt when he's feeding so Ben decides to be Spider-Man and do what he has to letting Moren feed on him so the rest can take him down and by rest I guess I mean CLA this really reminded me of Ultimate Spider-Man and the death of Peter Parker yet again I'm not sure if it's intentional but the idea of this young kid with spider powers seemingly about to die fighting this monster gives me those vibes CLA does manage to hit Moren with everything she has giving them a chance to make a break for it but unfortunately Ben doesn't make it I didn't expect them to just kill off one of Peter's kids like this and to see MJ's reaction is just sad we end the issue back of cap and Spidey with cap saying to Spidey if he wants to be with his family that's fine but Tony will come back sooner or later Pete replies basically asking for help with the whole [ __ ] thing before saying to cap let's do what old men should and leave the world a better place just the dialogue between cap and Peter loan is enough to sell me on this issue let alone getting to see Peter's in action as well as an actually really well told Civil War rendition Bravo [Music] zosi a [Music] in the year 2019 the world kind of sucks see all the superheroes you know and love have been basically either died from the Civil War or from old age with only the OG around being Spider-Man Dr Doom has basically won at this point the world is completely under his control and Peter is running a small resistance team of young superheroes to try and fight back as you can probably tell Peter is an old man at this point and it shows fortunately for Peter Mars has joined the crew as the new spider Protege and CLA has a kid MJ is still kicking so it's not all bad we find out that Peter is planning a big space mission to finally end Dr Doom's Reign or at least give the Next Generation a Fighting Chance the plan is to essentially sneak on board to one of Dr Doom spaceships and disable Doom's control over the world's technology yeah this premise is crazy however things are never quite that simple for the Spider-Man and while they're infiltrating the ship it turns out another villain is still kicking yep Venom is still around and it looks like he's still using Craven's body as the host now to use that old Sonic em to free Craven and catch up with the oh he's a he's a skeleton uh all right moving on so look it's been a hot minute since we've had some crazy dook plan and I know what you're thinking isn't he dead well they managed to somehow weave the superior story line into the series by having Otto take control of mil's body something about his mind being let free when Doom took over the world I don't know comic logic now while he was going to originally take over old Peter's body Otto actually managed to see the new spider BST movies and let's just say he's a big fan I'm just going to pause for a second to just mention how crazy of a plot twist this is to just throw in towards the last few pages of your run now Pete's a smart guy and knows that Miles straight up has anime powers and well he's an old man so there's not really much point dking it out in a slugfest so Peter does the one thing he can think of genjutsu no but for real we get some really nice pages of this ultimate psychological battle raging between these two seeing the Decades of growth they've been through the rivalry and hatred coming all to a head in these beautiful panels ultimately Peter doesn't even beat Otto aun May does and what is honestly a great send off to both may and Otto she basically redeems the guy and puts his soul to rest in a really heart tugging panel we cut to Peter rushing through the exploding corridors as the ship gives in from the battles between venom and Miles unfortunately for Peter it's revealed that the ship's probably not going to hold long enough for the whole doomsday device they put on board to go off and cause the whole EMP thing and there's only one Escape pod left so Peter gets Otto's word that he'll save both him and Miles with the promise that he'll restore miles mind Oto accepts realizing Spider-Man's about to make the ultimate sacrifice so the moments tick down until self-destruct as Peter stands aboard the wreckage looking out over vast space his mind reflects on his life his journey and most importantly his love for Mary Jane we see one last panel of old man Peter saying jackpot and and that's the end of Spider-Man we returned back to Earth with Miles and MJ sitting down having a discussion it seems Otto kept true to his word and restored miles back to his body however miles is understandably shaken up and he doesn't quite know where to go from here that's when MJ tells him exactly what he needs to hear she's had to support Peter through this countless times so this isn't new to her we end the issue and the series with Mary Jane passing down Peter's original Spider-Man costume to Miles Morales so after all this what the point it's a pretty vague question to ask at the end of it but if I were to have a go pinpointing or establishing exactly what life story is about well it's about endings the idea of an ending that something just stops and that's it can be a scary idea for a lot of people and myself included it's a reminder of our own mortality and that time is always going to be ticking whether we like it or not it's really the one consistent theme of the entire miniseries if you ask me the inevitability of time of death of an end ending but I believe one thing life story manages to do superbly is show how beautiful growing can be of working your way through life despite the trials and tribulations and still being okay and eventually how even an ending can be just as beautiful if not more than a beginning to relate this back to the start of the video where I addressed 616 Spider-Man and the problems of the modern day Comics I decided to use life story as a way to illustrate the flaws better than I ever could actually articulate the beautiful thing about story is that it's allowed to have freedom with the characters to just throw something at the wall and see what sticks and most importantly to tell an ending to give some closure it's really the one thing we'll probably never get from 616 Spider-Man and let's be honest unless a world ending catastrophe happens over at Disney they're going to keep milking the spider cow for all it's worth which unfortunately means we're just going to see these characters evolve at a snail's pace or rarely at all it's just the nature of comics these days and the whole sliding timeline to make sure this video doesn't end on too much of a sad note I just wanted to add if there's one thing you take from this video is that if you're a little sick of modern day Spider-Man comics life story is exactly for you if you want to see what may be an ending for Spidey entails this is worth your time but also outside of the 616 Comics it's an absolutely amazing time to be a Spider-Man fan I mean this year alone we got the Fantastic across the spiderverse and they're spectaculous Spider-Man 2 by Insomniac and in January we're even getting a new Ultimate Spider-Man series featuring a middle Family Man Peter married to MJ and I cannot wait so hold fast True Believers and thank you all for [Music] watching
