thanks dao strong for sponsoring this video i don't know about you but i love cooking a shrimp that crust is always incredible so you got me thinking how about we put it on some steaks is it gonna turn out good or is this gonna be a complete disaster well we're gonna find out right now because this is the coconut crust steak experiment so let's do it and everything starts off with coconut shaving now it's important for you to know that i'm using the one that is not sweet so for one of my steaks i'm gonna be using this right here and nothing else but hey i got two more crazy options to try that way we're really gonna know if it's good to put coconut shaving on steaks or not and the first one is to mix a little bit of bread crumbs together with the coconut that's right i just put them all together and mixed it well to see how it's gonna turn out hopefully the coconut is gonna bring some amazing flavors to go along with it now the question is what happens when you combine both of them now the second one is a little crazy and that's instead of using bread crumbs i'm using takis oh yes that with a little bit of coconut shaving again i have no idea what to expect and that's why i love to experiment now none of this is going to be possible without stakes and for today i got three beautiful new york strips now these are choice grade and they have great marbling as always the first thing we gotta do is to get them seasoned well for that i started with a good amount of salt followed by freshly ground black pepper and garlic powder even though we're crusting the steak with different things it's important to make sure you season it first remember whenever you're cooking this sous-vide it actually brines itself on the bag so always season your steak before cooking it sous vide talking about that after vacuum sealing them they were ready to go and that's perfect because it allows me time to go ahead and make an awesome side dish these are coconut shrimp like i said in the beginning of the video i love them and they are super easy to make let me show you how these are jumbo shrimp now to cook them all you have to do is to dunk them in the batter talking about batter it is super easy to make let me show you as always exact amount of ingredients always in the description down below for you i started with all purpose flour followed by cornstarch a little bit of baking powder don't forget about salt and coconut shaving throw in a little bit of cold water and mix it all together you are looking for the same consistency as pancakes because all you have to do now is to dunk the shrimp in there and throw it directly into the hot oil at 350 degrees fahrenheit cook them until they have a nice golden brown color just like this now coconut shrimp goes very well with a spicy mayo and this sauce is so easy to make as well and here's how to do it into a boy throw in a little bit of mayo followed by sriracha and of course cherry vinegar mix everything well because once you have done so your sauce is done now this is perfect to go along with the shrimp and whenever you're plating it up make sure you are generous with it because this thing is really tasty i just like to finish it off with a little bit of parsley as this is now going to be the perfect side dish to go along with the crusted steaks talking about that the only thing left to do is to cook them so for that i threw them all in my lipavi rack this will help the water circulate all the way through then into the water bath they went at 129 degrees fahrenheit for two hours that will cook them all the way through and because they are choice grade 129 degrees fahrenheit will be perfect [Music] i'll tell you one thing that shrimp looks incredible everybody cook on the shrimp is always good especially when you pair it up with a little bit of that spicy mayo now here's the deal i cook my steaks at 129 degrees fahrenheit for two and a half hours the reason i went with 129 is because it's a new york strip and a leaner new york strip it's not a prime as you guys already know so that is a perfect temperature for new york strip because it doesn't have that much fat with all that being said the steaks are ready we are hungry and it's time to take it out let's do it as soon as you take the steaks out of the sous-vide bag the first thing that comes to your mind is oh man this thing is ugly and you are right and i agree with you first thing we need to do is to pet it dry really good we don't want any moisture and to help with that i'm going to be putting a little bit of all-purpose flour on it that way an egg wash will stick to it so that we can put our crust that is exactly what i'm going to do now you want to flash fry you don't want to fry this at 350 degrees fahrenheit like you normally do flash fry means that it's at 400 degrees i'm literally just gonna put it in there about 15 to 20 seconds and take it out and it should be nice and golden brown so with all that being said i know what you're thinking i know my steaks don't look that good right now but watch this [Music] do [Music] [Music] now you tell me if that doesn't look incredible and before we right correct so here's the deal all right i'm not going to tell you what they are but they all have some coconut and i want to know which one tastes better or if it's really really bad you ready that's all there is to it now this one you ready coconut crust coconut crust mama it's one of those ideas that you have when you're falling asleep actually it was angel's idea by the way andrew is not here right now he's gonna come a little later everybody but that was his idea he wanted me to give it a try i did it for him but he can't make it right now you ready mama let's go all right cheers everybody that is nice nice yeah very very small hint of sweetness from the coconut right does it really taste like coconut no not at all it's just just a little something sweet on top of a nice crust this one is delicious very nice unique flavor i recommend it turns out okay all right ready for the second one let's go see the color huh i don't know about this one here doritos doritos spicy cheetos oh you're getting close i know your pantry over there i know it's the stuff that angel likes yeah there you go very second one ready my mom let's do it cheers everybody all right like that one i don't know what you have to say about that but i like that one the flavor took a little bit longer to come through but it's a little hot no it's a little sweet is that takis yes i'm not saying that because there's a little bit of a hint of line too yes there is so it's a little acidic a little sweet a little hot that's my favorite i know don i like this one as well just like he said it the lime is such a nice combination with beef you know what i mean very nice good so far now this one here you ready huh this one looks the weirdest right it looks weird because you know i was thinking this is going to be good because you have a little bit of bread crumbs and then you want to fill the coconut see if it's really a good combination or not you know what i'm saying yeah yeah so let's find out right now it's like a coconut lover steak exactly coconut lover crusted steak that maybe should be the title of the video but we're gonna find out if it's good or not or too much ready cheers everybody that well together right you get the you got the flavor a really really good steak and then you get the sweetness separate from the flavor of the steak and then you get the coconut hint separate for the sweetness and the steak so it's not and they don't get along it's like you know when you have your mother-in-law versus you if you don't get along with your mother-in-law because i get along very well
