join us today as we obtain our ATVs from the kanam tour company with our excellent guide named Cash we'll officially kick off our adventure by stopping at certain landmarks before we settle in at the South coyote Buttes The Rock striped in Hues of yellow orange red and purple rise out of the sand in unimaginable patterns from towering spiers to Wave light formations to stripe walls that seem to span the entire color spectrum the place is absolutely breathtaking it's perhaps the most unique location I've ever visited it's going to be a great day today heading inside you're going to show them our permit for South coyote Buttes and I'm just hoping first and foremost they still have the red white and blue Evil Knievel helmet I got first dibs on that one if it's still here there she is I've been waiting two years to put that puppy back on my head you took good care of it for me didn't you that's right reserved for Randy Smith I love it all right you might be the first guy in two years to wear that helmeters so what we're going to do today Randy is on the right hand side we've got this mountain or a plateau called the Kaibab we're gonna go over the top of that and then drop down into the house Rock Valley Road and then end up taking the pawhole road again past past the pothole we'll stop there and let you guys get some footage and then we'll continue on to a place called Cottonwood Cove and that's where we're going to do our hikes start things off we'll we'll go down this dusty road and it's pretty wide open and then once we get up in the trees it's gonna turn into a lot less you can see down the road because it's going to be twisty turny lots of rocks and we'll just take it slow until we get up to the sinkhole and we'll go from there but yeah it's kind of one of those things Tire management so vital thing today because if we happen to pop a tire we might be able to change one out put a put a tire on this and then I could just hop in the back or something or we could just call the mechanic and wait about to ride out here Jeff oh my goodness that was so much fun that was sweet we only went six miles but it was a great time and we're just getting started so I'm sorry I'm pretty pumped you're not coming up here on the family minivan are you no no if you do you're gonna have the long toe back home that was one rough ride welcome to Eagle sink everyone so what's special about Eagle sink well Eagle sink's a big sinkhole right now we're on top of a mountain that gets about 9 000 feet but it's made out of limestone so it was underneath the ocean at one time which is kind of crazy and that's where you find sinkholes and that's why they're more prevalent in Florida is because Florida is made up of lines [Music] [Music] the paria plateau is home to the Native Americans dating back to the Pueblo periods from about 750 to 1250 A.D more recently ranchers settled here when grazing began somewhere around 1840. thank you [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] thank you [Music] if you look around you can see that we've got a super bloom going on and so you got quite a few different flowers popping up here from Palmer's penstemon to the mountain honeysuckle to Globe mallow to little yellow daisies you can see growing in a pretty cool site you only get this once every 20 years so Cactus here that's In Bloom and there's two types out here so you'll see one that's pink and the other one's yellow but uh yeah pretty neat [Music] foreign [Music] they actually kill rattlesnakes no kidding yeah it's a very good snake down but they do have little teeth and no suckers they'll bite you they're not poisonous we've had quite a few rainstorms and nothing was really blooming the first time last time I was out here oh yeah so this purple flower that we're looking at on the ground right here you don't want to mistake this for something else it looks a lot like a wild onion but if you happen to eat the death canvas is what it's called it'll shut down your internal organs and I knew a lady who mistakenly ate it years ago and she was in the hospital for about a week so be careful with that one folks let's worry about Flash plugs absolutely and so you learn about it as a kid you know just take a look at where you're going that day and make sure there's no storms so right here I'm looking at South coyote Buttes in front of me that is Wilderness land so the Drone is not permitted there we're heading over there shortly but behind me over here is where we're heading right now and that is uh public land so we'll get the Drone up there and that will be a little appetizer for our trip to South County buyout which is probably uh a mile half mile away from here and uh what's down we're gonna see this giant Sandstone monolith probably the biggest one that I know about out here [Music] foreign [Music] Ty Butte South is located about 40 miles west of the town of Kanab just two and a half miles south of the Utah border in Arizona it's part of the larger 280 000 acre Vermilion Cliffs National Monument the two distinct areas are the pothole and Cottonwood the entire South coyote Buttes area is about three miles across from the north end to the South [Applause] [Music] [Music] you're gonna make your way right now to our Premier destination this is the heart of the South coyote Buttes this is absolutely incredible we got about a mile hike through the desert and we've arrived at this So Randy out in front of us is uh Cottonwood Cove and that's where this place gets the name from it's just this little Valley off in the distance before the Red Cliffs but just out in front of us are features known as gumdrops this is kind of known as the Gumdrop Valley over here and uh with all the lighter Hues and the Sandstone people start thinking of candy and sweet things out here if you plan to visit this area be sure to secure a permit as of 2023 only 20 people are permitted to visit each day you'll need a high clearance vehicle as you'll be driving on Sharp Rock and through deep sand other necessities are water sunscreen sunglasses downloaded maps and appropriate shoes it's a rugged environment with no restrooms no developed trails or no cell phone service temperatures can be scorching there is little shade flash floods are a reality and help could be ours or even days away thank you [Music] ladies and gentlemen this is the desert paintbrush this remote area offers opportunity for Solitude we only saw one Party of Three the entire time we were there take in the incredible landscape listen to The Breeze rushing through the sagebrush there's nothing man-made wander and scramble in search of the best angles amongst the vibrant formations weird hoodoos and Boots balancing rocks Moki marbles beehives swirls teepees mini arches and delicate and elaborate fins hi guys how many tour guides would go to this extent for their customers come on what I think is you could buy anything you want on Amazon nowadays oh we got it it's a registered dinosaur Mr Dinosaur can you show us some tracks well I was right down here my Dino Rider will show you he's pointing out one of the tracks there I want to see you finish the whole hike with that thing on oh you got to ask you do you pull this out for all the customers or just the special ones just for you man uh God bless you but yeah if you want to come over this way there's a few more yeah we'll uh we'll follow a bit can we jump on the dinosaur with you yeah right on there's multiple waves around the area everyone wants to see the wave but yeah when you come to these places there are way other wave options like what you're seeing the rainbow yeah I like that has their own way maybe not as spectacular but still quite impressive the mini wave seen here was originally cut by water but not much water runs through it anymore unlike the well-known wave formation which is smoother and more polished this wave is now shaped by the wind leaving the rough looking surface edges [Music] well thanks for traveling with us today at America's Parks we are giving a shout out to our phenomenal tour guide cash from Kanab tour company highly recommended if you haven't done so yet please subscribe to America's parks and remember from all four of us here today at America's Parks from South coyote Buttes there's always room for you on every
