hey everyone in today's video we are doing a camera comparison between the Sony a7 3 and the sony a7r Mark ful I want to say a big thank you to CERN in Australia for sending me the ace of anomic fold this is my first time using this camera so I'm really excited to see what it can do and as you guys know that 873 is my urn we are also going to be using the Zeiss 35 millimeter one point fold lens on both these cameras just to keep the review in the comparisons fit so today we are out on location with Dan so this is going to be a real world review of what it feels like to use break these cameras out on the field in a photo shoot setting we are going to be comparing a bunch of different things we are going to be testing the autofocus speed of both cameras the autofocus accuracy image quality dynamic range and right at the end of this video we're also going to do a low-light test to see how the focus accuracy is in darkest situations and how high you can push the ISO as well before we get into using these cameras and taking photos on them I want to point out some of the physical differences between these two bodies when I first picked up the Sony a7 3 I found that the build and the quality of the buddy is really high and it feels like a really strong camera and then I feel like in this ace of anomic full they've just improved on that so it feels a bit sturdier and more robust as well but yeah they both have a really good build quality in the body the top of the cameras are pretty similar again on the a7r Mark 4 they have added a lock button to the Xperia compensation dial and the program dial as well which I really like because in the a7 3 I always accidentally bump the exposure compensation button and it's always on like either minus 3 or plus 3 so I really like that they added the lock button and then this style up here is sticking out whereas on the a7 3 it's built into the camera on the back of the camera the only difference we have is the joystick I feel like they've improved the design of this on the a7 3 I find that my thumb kind of slips around on the joystick whereas they've added a new kind of grip to it in the ace of anomic full and my thumb is like stuck to the button which I her really like the screens flip out the exact same and on both cameras the battery access is exactly the same on both cameras and the final difference between the two bodies is how you open the SD card slot so on the a7 3 you've got a little button which is pretty convenient to reach and then on the a7r Mark 4 you have to kind of pull out on the SD card compartment which I find it's a little bit difficult to do sometimes especially if it's like really hard and you're kind of sweaty or your hands are clammy they kind of just slip on the outside of the camera so I drew find it's a little bit hard to open sometimes and the a7 3 is just so much more convenient so we're gonna set up these cameras on a tripod now and we're gonna start with testing the autofocus speed and we're back we had to run home quickly because as soon as I turned on the AR 4 and Dan jumped in front of the camera I thought this is not updated so I had to quickly update the firmware now we have the latest firmware on both camera bodies yeah gesina so we have the ninja Thomas setup here to record what you see through the viewfinder or the screen when you're shooting on the cameras and I'll just show you here in the menu we have face and I AF turned on in both cameras on and on and then if we press function here we have the focus mode set to AF continuous so do want to jump in the show [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] freaka speed was pretty even across the board I did notice the ace of a novel was able to retain IAF a lot more in further away shots compared to the a7 3 which fell back on to face detection and a cluster focus point more often but at that distance a wide focus point and face detection do still get the subject in focus [Music] [Applause] [Applause] so I'm going to take some shots of the landscape now and these will be our image quality tests that we can zoom into a hundred percent to see all the details of each of the photos which a pretty sure I know which one's gonna win this around so I want to get a shot of the grassy with some of the trees in the background for some bulk ass maybe and now I'm gonna take the same fritter on the a cévennes three here we are in Lightroom and I have the two photos that I took that are pretty much identical I'm pretty happy with how they turned out on the Left we have the ace of a novel and on the right we have the a7 3 so I'm just going to zoom into one-to-one in Lightroom which is a hundred percent and here we can see all the extra resolution you can get from the ace of an off four compared to the a7 3 so these right here are the same full blades of grass in the photo but on the 4 you can zoom in so much more and it pretty much fills up the screen whereas on the three it's a lot further away and then if we've kind of moved down in the picture here we've got the cluster of grass which is the same here on the three which is so much closer up on the r4 aside from the extra resolution I do feel like the image quality from both cameras is great both images are super sharp and you can see a lot of detail in both the 4 and the 3 as you can see this blade of grass is in focus on the r4 and you can see all the little details in the grass and then over here this blade of grass is in focus on the 3 shot but again even though it's a little bit further away you can still see plenty of details in this blade of grass so it really depends on what you need out of a camera when it comes to the off four versus the 7/3 for me as a portrait photographer the a7 3 is more than enough image resolution and high quality enough for weddings and fashion and portrait photography and the f4 is probably better suited if you like to print out your images or you do landscape photography or you just need higher resolution images yes so hopefully this little comparison is helpful for you guys to see next up it took some underexposed photos of Dan in this field location and I want to see the difference in dynamic range so I'm going to start by bringing up the exposure on the a7 3 photo which is on the left I'm also going to bring up these shutters and I'm going to add a little bit of contrast and bring down the highlights just to try and balance the image out and then I'm going to sync the settings with the ace of an off full further and we'll put them up side-by-side to see the difference when I paste the settings we are able to save the shadows on both the cameras so I'm going to bring up the ACE event through here and edit the ace of an off four and I'm going to try it and make them look the same by bringing up the exposure on the four and I'll bring down the highlights a little bit more and then swapping them back around I'm going to bring down the exposure a tiny bit on the three and the highlights as well I feel like the fall has a slightly higher edge over the dynamic range of the three but as you guys can see it is pretty similar with both cameras and here we've got a little look at the corner which was this dark to begin with so we were able to recover a lot of the shadows in both the images next up I want to do a highlight recovery so this I took a photo that was exposed for Dan with the sky being slightly overexposed so we're gonna bring down the highlights to see how much of the sky we can save of both images and I'll bring the white point down a little bit as well and then I'm going to sync the settings between both photos and then bringing it up again we have saved pretty much the same amount of highlights on both images [Music] there are still spots that are blown out but that is unsavable on both photos but we are able to create a balanced image overall with the highlights and the shadows of these overexposed photos we are back in the warmth now we are inside ready for our last comparison which is the low-light test so I've waited until the Sun has completely set it sturdily night time outside I've set up the little lamp just behind me it's not the prettiest shot but it will get the point across something for what I want to show you guys so the first thing we're going to do is test the autofocus speed and see how well IAM works in low-light situations [Music] [Music] I want to compare the difference in noise and grain in each birder as we increase the icer here we can see the focus accuracy as well as the iya sir focus missed on both cameras quite a lot especially the a7 3 it only had 2 photos in focus up to 3200 both cameras deal with noise in low-light well between 4,000 and 10,000 the noise on the a7 3 looks cleaner I personally wouldn't use the ace of an awful pass sixty four hundred eight thousand maybe if I'm desperate for light and I wouldn't used the a7 three past 10000 those are all the tests that we're doing for today's comparison between the sony a7 3 and the sony a7r Mocksville i really hope that seeing all those tests and those comparisons really helps you guys out if you were stuck deciding between the 2 cameras will stuck deciding what suits you better as a photographer and what you need out of the camera buddy if you have any questions please let me know down in the comments below and if there's any other two cameras that you'd like to see us create a comparison between please let me know as well because I had so much fun filming today's video so I would love to do it again and I want to say thank you to Dan who's behind the camera for being a model today as well I really hoped out so when it comes to my personal preference and what I would decide between the two I absolutely love the ace of anomic for however for me as a portrait photographer and a wedding photographer I really don't need all the extra resolution that comes in the ALF all I feel like taking photos on this camera full-time would mean a lot of retouching when it comes to portraits and also when I'm taking photos of wedding clients who aren't necessarily professional models they kind of don't want to see all that detail in this skin because I know I definitely don't want that so for me I feel like the Sony a7 3 is that perfect balance between low-light which I do a lot of wedding photography and solution images but thank you guys so much for watching today's video I really hope you enjoyed it and found it helpful I make new videos every single week so I will see you all next time bye
