Somebody else had your idea first (but here's why that's okay)

so last week when I took my two little girls to their gymnastics class there was this other mom there who was looking at me kind of weird and eventually she asked me is your name Gillian and it came out that she is one of my YouTube subscribers so shout out to Kelly it was great to meet you Kelly and I had a great discussion about this business idea that she wants to start but she was telling me about how she never feels like she has time to work on it well at least that's what she said at first but then later after the class finished up she came back over to me and she said you know what that's not actually it the real problem is that it always just seems like things are happening too fast like I have an idea but then before I even get a chance to turn it into a business I see somebody else already did like somebody else is always having my ideas before me or taking action on them before me now when Kelly said this I could totally relate to it because this actually happens all the time to me I'm quite an idea person I'm always coming up with new ideas for businesses or products or services that my business could offer and more often than not shortly after I have the idea I see someone else have that very same idea and turn it into a real business or sometimes it kind of happens the other way where I start to see like this new trend that's happening so then I think oh maybe I should jump on that Trend but before I get the chance to it just seems like so many people have jumped on that Trend that there's no more space in the market like it's come too competitive before I even got the chance now there's two reasons I want to point that out one is so that you don't feel like you're alone in this struggle you know everyone experiences this but the other reason is because once you realize that everyone experiences this then that begs the question in that case what separates the people who become successful from everyone else well there are two different components of this one of them is mental it's all about your mindset the other one is tactical and practical and what to actually do to solve this problem in the market and in this video I'm going to talk about how to deal with both of these sides of the issue so that you can start finally taking action that you can run with one of your ideas and you can turn it into a success before the market becomes too saturated so when it comes to the mindset side of things the first thing you have to recognize is that everyone deals with this but the difference between the people who are successful and everyone else is that the people who become successful or the people who struck while the iron was hot they had an idea and they immediately started taking action I mean think about it there was some time that passed between when you had the idea and when you saw other people start taking action on it and if you had started taking action immediately then you could have been first on the scene but of course there are good reasons why you waited you wanted to think about it first you were wondering is this idea good enough is this the right idea but you shouldn't let those questions stop you because taking action is actually the best way to figure out out if your idea is a good idea if it is the right idea and what's more if you start taking action today then you are going to make way more progress towards finding a good idea than if you don't take action right if you take action even if it's on the wrong idea after a few months you can figure that out you can move on to the next idea so just start taking action one of the biggest things that sets the successful apart from everyone else is that the successful are always working on something start working on idea keep working on it for at least 3 months and then after that you can kind of evaluate you know is this working is this not and if it's not then the next time you have an idea well then switch start working on that one instead and by doing this and by continually working on something that is how you will make the most progress and eventually find a winning idea it might take a little while it might take a year or two but if you just keep waiting until you have the perfect idea and have time to work on it and get around to working on it before anyone else starts working on it then you are seriously limiting your chances of success so now that we've talked about the mindset side of things let's move on to talking about the Tactical practical like how do you deal with the fact that other people are jumping on these ideas before you well first of all you have to realize that it is 100% okay for there to be more than one brand selling the exact same product I mean think about shampoo for example you walk down the shampoo aisle at Target and there are hundreds of Brands selling shampoo they're all selling nearly the same product designed for the same outcome to clean your hair with just small Nuance of difference this is normal in the marketplace you see it in almost every industry dozens of Brands selling almost exactly the same product so if you have an idea for a business but before you get around of starting it you see someone else start a similar business or two people start similar businesses or 10 people start similar businesses do not let that stop you there is absolutely no reason why you cannot still move forward to start a business or a brand in the same space there is no reason why you cannot create a similar product your product is not going to be the same as those other products that are out there on the market you will put your own spin on it maybe you'll make a better product maybe you'll just make a different product and oftentimes a different product does better in the marketplace and is more competitive in the marketplace than a product that is simply better it's actually harder to stand out with just a better product than it is with a slightly different product that solves a slightly different problem or solves it in a slightly different way now not only can you succeed even if you are head-to-head competing with another very similar product you also have to consider that most of the time most people have never even heard of the other product I mean think about the most famous person you can think of maybe it's the president maybe it's it's Taylor Swift maybe it's Elon Musk whoever it is the most famous person you can think of and then consider that the majority of the people in the world have never even heard of that person literally the majority of the people more than 50% of the people in the world have never heard of Taylor Swift so when you are thinking about another brand in your space another brand in the industry you wanted to start a brand in the fact that that brand exists means practically nothing most of the people in the world will have never heard of that brand even most of the people in your target market probably haven't heard of that brand especially at the beginning when you've only just discovered that brand yourself you know years down the road it might be that they will have reached most of the target market that still doesn't mean that you cannot compete with them by just being different or just being better you still totally can that still does not mean that you cannot compete with them by being just a little better or a little different because you totally can but right now we're not even at that point most people have haven't even heard of them there still is virtually no competition so whatever business idea you've been thinking about starting but you've hesitated on because you see other people doing something similar stop letting that stop you start moving forward and taking action you can either move forward with whatever your best idea is right now or the next time you have an idea strike while the iron is hot and start taking action then and remember to make the most progress the most important thing is just to always be working on something but I got to say this does open up a whole another can of worms once you finally start working on something how do you keep working on it long term how do you stay consistent how do you stay motivated how do you keep having energy for it long term well if that's something you've ever worried about
