US LIVE, SUBMIT YOUR WEATHER PHOTOS AND VIDEO, WHICH DALLAS LOVES TO RECEIVE, AND IT'S HELPING US WITH OUR COVERAGE AS WE SPREAD OUT THROUGHOUT SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. >> DALLAS. THAT'S RIGHT. NOT ONLY IS IT ENJOYABLE TO SEE YOU AS A METEOROLOGIST, BUT ALSO IT BEAUTIFUL MANY OF THOSE SHOTS THAT, UH, OUR VIEWERS SEND US ARE FANTASTIC. WE HAD THE TIME LAPSE GOING. OF COURSE. RAIN CAME DOWN HARD TODAY. LAST NIGHT, TWO LIVE DOPPLER STILL PICKING UP RAIN ACROSS THE AREA. UH THE ATMOSPHERIC RIVER IS DECREASING, BUT THERE'S VERY SATURATED SOIL OUT THERE, SO ANYTHING THAT HAPPENS OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS CAN CAUSE PROBLEMS. AND WHAT I MEAN BY THAT IS YOU CAN HAVE THOSE INTENSE SHOWERS THAT WE'LL HAVE IN THE AFTERNOON MAY NOT BE JUST RAINING ACROSS THE ENTIRE AREA, BUT THOSE INTENSE SHOWERS CAN CAUSE PROBLEMS WITH SATURATED SOIL. EARLIER TODAY, WE SAW BIG BATCH OF RAIN COME ACROSS THE SOUTH BAY CAUSED SOME FLOODING, AND THAT FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9:00 TONIGHT. AND THAT EXTENDS FROM JUST ABOUT THE GLENDALE AREA OUT TO CALABASAS. YOU CAN SEE THE SNOW TONIGHT ON LIVE MEGA DOPPLER HEADED UP TO 15 MANY AREAS RIGHT AROUND IN THIS AREA. THIS IS LITTLE CREEK WEEK HAS HAD OVER NINE INCHES OF RAIN. WHETHER STORM WARNINGS REMAIN IN EFFECT. IF YOU'RE TRAVELING TO THE LOCAL MOUNTAINS, BE SURE TO CARRY THOSE CHAINS. IT'S GOING TO BE FANTASTIC. SKIING AND SNOWBOARDING AS WE HEAD TOWARD THE WEEKEND, BUT YOU'VE GOT A LOT OF WEATHER TO GO THROUGH UNTIL THAT TIME. COUPLE OF RAINFALL TOTALS SO FAR FOR THE STORM SYSTEM, SHOWING WOODLAND HILLS AND ALMOST SEVEN INCHES OF RAIN DOWNTOWN. TWO LOOK AT LA. CANADA HAS HAD SOME VERY HEAVY RAIN, AND ON THE SOUTH COAST, OUT AT LAGUNA BEACH, THOSE AREAS UP TO THREE INCHES OF RAIN. AND OF COURSE WE HAVE TO WATCH THAT AREA AROUND SAN CLEMENTE. THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL SATELLITE PICTURE , WHICH NOT ONLY SHOWS YOU VERY, VERY CLEARLY THE ATMOSPHERIC RIVER AND THE MOTION FROM WHERE IT COMES. IT COMES FROM THE SOUTH, FEEDING INTO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. BUT I'VE ALSO ADDED FOR YOU THE WATER TEMPERATURES OF THE PACIFIC. THIS IS WHERE THE EL NINO COMES IN. IT'S OCEANOGRAPHY. AND THE WATER TEMPERATURES ARE VERY WARM. THAT MAKES A HIGH POTENTIAL TO RELEASE MORE ENERGY INTO THE ATMOSPHERE. AND THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT HAS HAPPENED. WE'VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT THIS SINCE OCTOBER, THAT IT WOULD BE AN EL NINO SEASON, AND IT ONLY TAKES 1 OR 2 ATMOSPHERIC RIVERS LIKE THIS ONE TO CAUSE VERY HEAVY RAIN AND FLOODING IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. SO HERE'S THE SITUATION TONIGHT. THIS AREA OF LOW PRESSURE IS DECREASING IN INTENSITY. THE ATMOSPHERIC RIVER IS SLIDING OFF TO THE SOUTHEAST, BUT THEY'RE STILL GOING TO BE ENOUGH MOISTURE AROUND AS WE PUT THE WEATHER INTO MOTION. YOU'LL SEE THESE CELLS THAT CAN DEVELOP INTO TOMORROW MORNING. LOOK AT THAT. EVEN OUT IN THE VAN NUYS AREA NOW, IT'S NOT A HUGE AREA OF RAIN, BUT THESE CELLS CAN PRODUCE BRIEF, VERY HEAVY RAIN AS WE GO INTO THE AFTERNOON HOURS TOMORROW. THERE COULD BE EVEN A THUNDERSTORM. I KEPT THAT IN THE FORECAST TO AND SNOW IN THE MOUNTAIN AREA. SO WE'RE NOT OUT OF THIS SITUATION AS OF YET. HOWEVER, WE WILL SEE SOME SUNSHINE FLYING BY THAT'S SHOWS UP FOR US ON WEDNESDAY AND THEN I THINK YOU'LL REALLY LIKE THE FORECAST COMING UP FOR OUR SUPER BOWL WEEKEND. RAIN IS IN THE FORECAST TONIGHT. AT TIMES IT CAN BE HEAVY OFF AND ON AS WE GO THROUGH THE EVENING HOURS. IT'S COLD OUT THERE TOO AND LOOK HOW COOL IT IS TOMORROW WITH SHOWERS ALL OVER THE PLACE. GLENDALE AT 56 DEGREES. THAT'S IT. AND UP IN THE HIGH DESERT, THE BEST I CAN DO FOR YOU THERE IS ABOUT 52 AT PALMDALE. LANCASTER HERE'S THE SEVEN. SO FOR TOMORROW WE KEEP MOSTLY CLOUDY SKIES IN THE FORECAST. A ISOLATED THUNDERSTORM IS POSSIBLE. SO WE'RE GOING TO PUT THOSE RAINFALL TOTALS AT ABOUT 1 TO 2IN TOTAL TOMORROW. SO AGAIN NOTHING LIKE FIVE SIX SEVEN INCHES OF RAIN. BUT STILL WITH SATURATED SOIL. THAT'S A PROBLEM . SCATTERED SHOWERS STAY WITH US ON WEDNESDAY. THEN I THINK ON THURSDAY AND FRIDAY WE REALLY START SEEING SOME IMPROVEMENT, EVEN THOUGH THEY'RE STILL SHOWERS IN THE FORECAST THROUGH FRIDAY. AND THEN FOR THE WEEKEND , THAT'S WHEN WE'LL SEE THE BEST IMPROVEMENT ON SATURDAY. 63 PARTLY SUNNY. IT'S COLD AT NIGHT AND THEN SUNDAY LOOKS LIKE A GORGEOUS DAY. WE'LL HAVE SUNNY, COOL WEATHER AT THE BEACH. HIGH 63 DOWN AT HUNTINGTON BEACH TOMORROW. THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS AT THE BEACH ONLY 59 AND SHOWERS WILL BE OVER THE BEACH LOCATIONS WITH TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY AND THEN A LITTLE BIT IMPROVING ON FRIDAY. IN THE MOUNTAIN AREAS, THE SNOW IS HIGH, BUT IT'S GOING TO BE FALLING AND BY WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY AND FRIDAY IT'S DOWN TO ABOUT 5.5. SO 5500FT. WE WILL SEE SNOW THERE. THEN FOR THE WEEKEND. COULD BE ONE OF THE NICEST WEEKENDS TO SKI AND SNOWBOARD IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA . LOOK AT THAT. YOU'LL HAVE FRESH POWDER TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 30S WITH SUNNY SKIES, DESERT AREAS. STILL SOME SHOWERS OUT THERE GOING TO KEEP THOSE GOING FOR YOU TOO UNTIL THE WEEKEND. PALM SPRINGS BACK I
