SoCal preparing for powerful spring storm

rest in peace. Well moving along here this morning. It is going to be a wet Easter weekend. So Cal is bracing for a spring storm that's expected to bring significant rainfall and also a good chance for more mudslides. Unfortunately yeah. Mario Ramirez is live in Sherman Oaks with more good morning. Jan Melvin. Good morning. We always hope it's not the case, but residents in some of these hillside communities are bracing for the potential for damage here in this Sherman Oaks neighborhood. Several homes were damaged about two weeks ago. This one left red tag to take a look. Sky Fox was overhead following this slide on March, 13th after part of the hillside came down onto three homes. This is a along Ventura Canyon Avenue . It forced the evacuation of several residents, and at one point responding, firefighters were using pumps to remove water from a Swing pool to take some of the additional weight and stress off the hillside there. Meanwhile Wendy Bohan from the California Geological Survey says residents should prepare ahead of the storm this weekend. Make sure you clear out any, uh, debris from drain pipes. You want to let the water flow into those culverts and into those spaces where we know that the water is gonna be able to flow out of the area safely. But you also want to be on the lookout for things like tilted light poles are trees that might be tilting any cracks in the ground that may have formed or started to open up. You also want to check your retaining walls. Make sure that they're in good repair and generally just be aware of your surroundings at all times. Fire officials as well Warning residents to be prepared with an evacuation plan and an emergency plan ready to go. Meanwhile the incoming rain also canceling several events this weekend. They include Santa Anita horse racing both Saturday and Sunday, the Pasadena Egg Bowl and Bunny brunch, Garden Grove's excavation event and Lawndale Easter extravaganza.
