[Music] hello welcome to the 13th and 14th updates april 2021 the newsletter will have the following main news one super heavy bn1 and sn 15 update 2. how fast is starlink in australia i can't speak english well enough so i just use computer voice it takes a lot of time to write content and make videos so i can't fix the spelling error much hope everyone understands which everyone has a good time watching the video super heavy bn1 the manufacturing pathfinder was cut in half overnight and more sections were sliced today spacex will scrap bn1 to make room for newer booster prototypes that will implement changes and undergo testing at the launch pad spacex looks to have finally set a date for the launch of its latest starship prototype with april 20th penciled in for liftoff of the sn15 starship sn15 with aft flap which was recently filled and pressurized liquid nitrogen to test its tank prior to static fire testing sn15 has been equipped with new heat shields to ensure that when landing this heat barrier will work preventing sn15 from getting hot and landing safely spacex has been preparing the sn15 for launch in the past few weeks looking for the ideal time to blast the rocket into the skies the sn 15 has been on the launch pad at boca chica texas since the disastrous flight of the sn 11 on march 30th now official documents seem to show april 20th as the date on which elon musk's company will launch the sn15 documents submitted to the u.s federal communications commission fcc show spacex asking for special temporary authority sta to operate the sn15 on april 20th however the document goes on to say the sta could last for up to 60 days the document reads spacex requests special temporary authority to operate a single user terminal within five kilometers of boko chica village tx on an experimental basis at altitudes not to exceed 12.5 kilometers the authority requested hirin will be sharply limited in duration spacex requests to operate under this sta for a period of 60 days beginning april 20th 2026 or the date on which the sta requested hirin is granted whichever is later these operations will only occur on the ground or during test flights of durations not to exceed eight minutes spacex has already attempted to launch for starship prototypes but all ended in a ball of flames spacex fans had been eagerly anticipating the launch of the sn 11 following weeks of delays to the scheduled liftoff at 2 pm bst on march 30th the rocket finally took to the skies while the sn 11 cruised at an altitude of 10 kilometers its rockets slowly shut down mid-flight a huge explosion ensued as captured by nasa space flight as the sn 11 cameras shut down with debris raining across the launch site don't miss the company would have hoped to make progress on its attempts to successfully landing the sn-8 sn9 and sn 10 all also exploded as they touched down the next starship prototype to launch will be the sn15 spacex had built the sn12 but parts of it have been scrapped the sn13 and sn14 had parts made for it but spacex decided to not complete the rockets instead it will jump straight to the sn 15 which spacex chief mr musk says has improved capabilities and will be the company's best chance at landing while the sn 15 will be fitted with small changes eccentric billionaire mr musk said the next major review will come when the sn 20 launches however even he is not confident the sn-20 will be a complete success stating the later batch of starships will take a more challenging flight mr musk added next major technology rev is at sn 20. those ships will be orbit capable with a heat shield and stage separation system ascent success probability is high however sn 20 and more vehicles will probably need many flight attempts to survive mach 25 entry heating and land intact how fast is starlink in australia starling's public beta test known as better than nothing beta launched in october 2020 in the northern us and southern canada where users reported average download speeds of about 100 megabits per second mbps that's roughly equivalent to the speed of a very good nbn plan or about twice a typical 4g mobile internet service and for people in rural areas without 4g reception or broadband cables it's faster than anything else on offer skymuster the most popular satellite internet service in australia has a top download speed of 50 mbps with users of its premium plus service reporting average speeds of about 40 mbps aside from speed also known as bandwidth there's also the issue of latency which is the lag between the moment a data packet is sent and the moment it's received and processed if you've been on a video call where people talk over the top of each other because of the delay in hearing what the other person is saying that's latency starlink says users can expect latency of 20 milliseconds ms to 40 milliseconds in most locations and this will drop to less than 16 milliseconds to 19 milliseconds in mid to late 2021 that's more lag than most australian broadband plans about 10 milliseconds but significantly less than what sky muster users typically report about 600 milliseconds fast speeds for first australian users in february starlink announced that australians could pre-order the satellite dishes for the beta service which would be available later in the year on monday this week james desales in canberra received his starlink setup box in a courier package within minutes he said he had set up the dish in his backyard plugged it in and watched it automatically orient itself to find a satellite overhead i connected to its wi-fi network on the phone and had blazingly fast internet he said that morning he clocked a download speed of 344 mbps over the following 24 hours it stayed around 150 mbps to 250 mbps with about 20 minutes of outages when the view of the satellites was obstructed or there were no satellites overhead at all speeds in australia will probably drop as more users are added to the network though the effect of this extra traffic will be partly counteracted by the company adding more satellites and ground stations as in the u.s starlink has told customers in australia they should expect downloads of 50 mb's to 150 mbs though it's also hinted the speed will go up in february elon musk tweeted that the speed will double to 300 mbs later in the year that all for the information today if you're excited about the groundbreaking work of spacex hit that like button and subscribe to our channel see you on the next videos
