Small Block Chevy 400 MAXED on the Dyno - Velocity Stack Tested

[Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] well look who's got here we finally got a small-block Chevy 400 cubic inch that belongs to enlightening 3 Hearst automobile anyway she's got a 400 here it's got Porter heads Anchor Point hits and a single Street Dominator intake manifold a radical camshaft I don't have the specs on the cam so don't ask me on that because we all we did on this was a funk job a refresh in other words gaskets bell rings oil pump chain rings and a and so forth vent valve springs of course so now we're just about to get it started and see what we're gonna get for hundreds not a very popular engine but the it is a small-block Chevy like that we'll put the most popular engine in in the world when it comes to hard wiring so right here we got a 490 350 or 400 cubic inch it's also external balance and we're gonna make a few tests to see what we can get out of it Tony my carburetor I tested it with yesterday was a 750 it's too small for this engine so yours isn't 750 that when you brought me so now I'm using in 830 now this engine is a story banana model when he's a lot of error so I installed the 830 and I'm going to show you the vacuum eating we like it's on the border in other words if it use a little bit bigger carburetor but I think this is gonna be perfect so I'm gonna do all my testing with the 830 CFM and then we'll take it from there so let's start her up and make some test you're ready let's go and this is something for the Chevy guys look 1.8 user when will you go 1.5 and over that carb is too small so this was a 750 now I went to an 8:30 and 8:35 right on the border and okay our max horsepower it's at the 5600 rpm so one point five so 830 is max but we're gonna go you know we have a stack that came in from material one of our viewers they send it to us apparently if you put it on a dynamometer should show more horsepower with the engine in other words we're gonna try it it's going to increase any power we don't know you know what we'll put it on after and find out what you say Tony we try after both see if it works one way to find out way to do it over here turn a dream plate to keep blinking I don't know why that dream lucky to make it all the time close the matter we're gonna take care of that after let's make a test here we go here we go with an 830 CFM carburetor on there [Applause] [Music] okay let's see what we got 471 at 5700 rpm right over here for 70s for stuff way more than a one horsepower one horsepower for a cubing engine not about all and if I historic is what Ford seventy four seventy four point eight four seventy five torque at 4500 rpm so we're gonna make another test back-to-back and then we'll put on the stack that one of our viewers has sent to us there we go we're gonna make another test we thought that stack like the back and then after that we're gonna put it on and we'll see if it makes any difference sometimes you know you're gonna make a few tests average it out and then make a few tests again with a stack and see what we get and then we'll see if this thing performs any power true or false will you make any don't know I want a way to find out stay tuned I went to a wild concert yesterday a wild Greek concert I went to last night I went to see Panos camels and you put on a hell of a show and we left the place at their 4:00 in the morning here we are I went home had two hours of sleep and Here I am back at the shop dyno testing oh yeah you wanna hear about music if you guys like Greek music look them up it was a lot of action going on good food lots of good music lots of dancing everybody was on the stage going crazy and of course we all stayed here till 4:00 in the morning except for a couple of hours and then back to work here at 6:30 7 o'clock this morning and now we're gonna make my own music [Music] okay real [Music] that's if we make the same power always keep on the same track we're running at 163 warm it up I ran every 163 165 so I want to bring the temperature back there a bit colder than before we're at 157 we're gonna think of the 6000 rpm [Music] oh don't you just love that oh I love that here we go now what do we got this time here 471 472 back to back same horsepower and the torque we're still at 470 480 okay you know what we're gonna see if we're gonna put the stack on and see if it makes any big difference here we go [Music] I had one of my viewers sent me in a stack to test it so I've got a small-block Chevy here I'm gonna put it on to see if we gain any difference horsepower or not one way to find out well doesn't want to go through okay I'm just gonna do up the whole two 5/16 because there's only open up four quarter inch stud this is what used to do in the old days with hot wash you know you just stick them on the carburetors and drive around no air filter whatsoever just like that but anyways we're just doing a test fit before it's to build the CFM or direct the air into the card reader so let's make the hole bigger and put it on [Music] well I didn't get much parts from my Kowalski bill the only thing is I got the installation path to install the heater box which I'm an invention doing a few minutes later one with Vasily socket Omaha goes on but in the meantime we'll finish dyno testing and we'll do it all right after this for this design for quarter inch stud but on this carbon it's a race car it's a 5 inch 5/16 stud so doesn't matter we drill that out now it's gonna fit [Music] we just got to make sure we don't have that stuff doesn't go loose I had a bad experience once had a customer bring me in a car beater and he put it on to the dyno and it's a big-block Chevy and eventually didn't tighten the stud we put the turbulent oil we made a blast and disaster he dropped the stud when right into the silver head right into the piston right through the piston put a hole through the cylinder and that was the end of the dyno testing so we had to get a sleeve do a valve job trick to repair the silver head and then back on the dyno a week later so in this case I want to make sure that that nut does not come off so I'm going to jam it up to make sure it also come off I know okay here we are we're gonna do a test of the velocity stack to see what it does actually we should make two tests to be really sure unless it makes a great horsepower difference then we'll just leave it once this will be enough here we go well it should work yeah but you know what I'll never try it in a dynamometer but let's scorch right now here we go there goes my license time Wow that's what we got [Music] I should we lost horsepower that's funny we should do 471 472 on the first two tests this is test number three and all we got was 463 464 467 we lost like about three horsepower we'll lick one more test we'll figure it out that's it back to back to test without it to test with it and we'll take it from there so far it looks as though the velocity stack is shaving off a few horsepower and torque Nick wants to do another poll to be sure but before he can get the 400 fired back up this blast from the past rolls into the shop [Music] you're good you're good you're good you're good keep coming keep coming keep coming keep coming slowly slowly cup cup cup here we have an 88 iron watt Camaro just came in from a 10-year storage what client was to get it started in solid so here it is let's say push it in [Music] I want this car straight ahead where's the key you have the key it should be inside one says it got two started we need a key or do we got here a Paxton small-block Chevy supercharged I've known as client for many many years I haven't seen this car for ten years knowing a wife it's been in storage all this time anyways you brought it here so we can get it going so you can Solomon I guess there's other projects for the future but in the meantime we got to get this going start it and then stall it it's been a while since inside in this car last time I seen was over 10 years ago Wow small block shape with a Paxton boxed-in supercharger anyways Ritter will start working on the next week and the meantime you just brought it here so I can take a look at it see what he needs and then we'll take it from there here we go let's open it up here it is Paxton Wow it's pretty tight in there right [Music] yeah you know what right now we're gonna look at this because I got to do some dynamo session right now and it won't get back to this later wine in the meantime he's got it out of his garage so now his wife could Park her car in the garage in a heated garage for the winter after this cold brutal winter we had this year and next week we'll get it going and hopefully rise [Music] all right we've got we lost a couple of horsepower a couple of torque now is only one test with the velocity stack and we're gonna do one more and we'll take it from there here we go and here we got test number two with the velocity stack and see what it does we got to surpass 471 horsepower to receive this thing actually works and here we go here we go hit okay looks like made no difference in other words maybe the velocity is stacked with design maybe for turnaround but not this kind of setup and this application this velocities like does not work for me and again we lost again two to three torque and of course two to three horsepower eventually this is where we did last night without the velocity stack with the 830 CFM carburetor with a maximum timing of 20 degrees with a half inch spacer and here it is and today we maxed out with the velocity stack twice just under four seventy so in other words this car will work without the velocity stack so here we go does it work for me on this setup unless your books bet on a turnaround and for now we're not gonna use it who knows maybe we'll do it on a different application in the future now we're gonna of course the customer is gonna go with an air cleaner with an air filter to keep the bugs out and the dust so for now we're not gonna use it here is your results I have a new way of signing things now I have a new autograph I remember what's a famous hockey player Jean Beliveau from the Montreal Canadiens captain of the Montreal Canadiens NHL hockey always said when you sign something like an autograph always print it or write it in a way that you could read your name so in this case I'm gonna sign it for mr. Tony right here and this is the way I sign him now here we go there you go that's my new signature now you can read my name that's right thanks doll bubbles good idea don't ease are you having to do results perfect thank you okay so let me get some cards out call you bring your cents and we'll go for installation all right all right all right there we go well you got a Chevy on a dyno okay coming night bye guys take care with one Chevy engine finished testing another is in the final stages of assembly vasily and Manny are discussing the water methanol system that's going on to Christina's nitrous injected Chevy big-block in the engine room it might be wearing a pretty pink blush but make no mistake this thing is going to be a beast [Music] nick has been hoping to spend a few minutes with his Kowalski challenger rebuild so he pounces on the first available moment and I got my firewall installation pad so this installation pad will put her on so I can get my heater box on it's a very simple installation or as is their plastic rivets blew through the firewall that's about it then after that we're gonna install the heater box this is a part of a detail that they're a lot of people do it's a very simple task and you know what you need it's a sound deadening and of course it belongs there so I'm gonna put it in like the way came from the factory okay here we go that's a very simple installation you don't want to go in I'm trying to get the needs to go away but you know what I'm gonna turn them wide resell it drill holes bigger I'm gonna trim these likely so I could prove to the whole so could be nice and tight that's a magnum banging in they seem to bend they're not the correct ones they're not perfect but that's all I've got right now so I'm gonna make it fit this is aftermarket stuff you know know our four walls been replaced these are aftermarket I'm using a hammer which should be just slightly hit with a hammer and go in place but in this case I'm hitting so hard that it doesn't want to go through but as you're hitting with the hammer all you do is you're bending this look that's all you're doing I'm going through and we'll stop right there and lock the installation pad in place [Music] imperfect aftermarket parts can spoil a build or they can be reshaped and made to work by experienced hands like Nick's [Music] you hold it off never say just walk it up give me a second let me see if it was true now there we go that's it okay that's what I'm going to do which is gonna grind a little bit just on the first one they're not exactly perfect for the job but you know what after I get done with it it's gonna work [Music] [Music] here we go and there's two more in the end and after that we're gonna pick up the heater box from the office install it and have another item installed in the kawaski project there you go brand-new take a look at it such a beautiful thing that there once I install it and then install the -
