Small Acreage Hay Making

[Music] it's a beautiful day to cut some hay last week you saw us get the um Garden in and this week we're starting to cut hay on a little property like this we have five acres we have to be very careful about how we use it to get all we can out of it uh to feed the animals and US Joey is out here on his old tractor and he is cutting the hay with a sickle mower which is also an antique piece of equipment just like the tractor [Music] and this field in front of the house is about an acre and part of it you can see where it's brown that's uh the vine Garden part and the horse run is up against the um uh woods so she has shade but the rest of it we cut in hay and over here past the wheat past the Orum is another acre and 1/3 of that is hay now you know that's not very much hay we get about 30 square bells of hay but you've got to think about this we keep our animal numbers down so we don't have to feed that many animals they're grazing this summer they don't need that much hay and they will need more than 30 Bells and we'll cut this again and uh so that'll be 60 Bales so we're only planning on feeding here four goats and a horse so when you're thinking about numbers on your farm you've got to either use your pastures all for grazing and we use one and a half acres for grazing we use two acres 2 and A2 acres for um uh crops and garden and for the big cat for for miracles herds we have to lease land to uh do the square Bells [Applause] [Applause] that's all kinds of excitement going on Pet's out here raking hey for the first time ever [Music] [Music] [Music] oh [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] come on come on come on come on come on there you go [Music] we just stay on the ground [Music] oh oh
