I remember seeing an ad for this game in a National Geographic kids magazine, and it seemed neat. Great video!

Will we be seeing guest appearances by Alex and Brett for the Dark Souls video?

even during the height of the PlayStation mascot Wars Sly Cooper had a way of fly under the radar it seems oddly appropriate for a stealthy thieving trash mammal but sly was never really the most conspicuous protagonist on the market however slowly but surely slice franchise became increasingly popular with fans of the stealth genre fans of platformers and you know kids by the time the series reached its third entry slide had a presence on just about everyone's PlayStation console and a favorable reputation to back him up developer Sucker Punch productions had proven that they could create a solid game but how long could they keep it up several fan favorite series often fall apart in their third entries falling prey to feature bloating and people trying to fix what's clearly not broken as for sly I'll determined today how he fared when I complete sly 3 honor among thieves hey everyone and welcome back to another brand new episode of the completionist I've kind of been obsessed with the sly franchise and the next one in the entry was sly three so three cool months sly three today we're gonna complete sly three honor among thieves let's begin yes [Music] ever since completing the first Sly Cooper I've been in love with this series I was shocked shocked I say and how much I adored its take on platforming rather than focusing on running through levels and mindlessly bopping every goon you come across the sly game stressed sneaking around and avoiding conflict at all costs but even the most novel of novelties will lose its luster after too long the first two Sly James proved beyond the shadow of a doubt that you can slap together stealth and platforming into something wonderful but with Sly three Sucker Punch was gonna have to bring something new and exciting to the table to keep the attention of all the little riddle and riddled kiddies and they brought a lot of new stuff to that table tons of new playable characters and reaching the capabilities of the characters they already had a far more intricate story than ever before multiplayer modes and oh right a 3d mode that doesn't bode well at all 3d is the ultimate red flag for when someone's run out of ideas on how to develop their property thankfully since I'm going to be playing sly three of the other sly collection on ps3 I don't have to worry about the 3d since it was completely omitted from that re-release but despite that massive jumped shark most people seem to really enjoy Sly 3 people tend to think of it just as warmly as they do the rest of the series which kind of puts my worries at ease I may be new to the sly party but I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and going to slide through with an open mind but I'm not wearing any damn 3d glasses you can get the hell out of there with that once again it looks like completing a slide game isn't gonna take that much effort clocking in if i play my cards right at a single playthrough and if the rumors are to be believed sly 3 has gotten rid just about all of its collectables which leaves me nervous and wondering what the hell I do have to do in order to complete this game it's that goddamn third entry curse again it's marked so many otherwise pristine franchises spider-man got hit with it both x-men trilogies failed to escape it remember when Superman had to fight that supercomputer and Richard Pryor was there it's damn shame [Music] sly cooper has always had a style all his own and that style hasn't really changed that much in the gap between slide two and three it's just as whimsical cartoonish and noir inspired as ever and it's still downright delightful sticking to your guns this hard would normally put one at risk of feeling stale but slide three changes up the cast of characters just enough to give this third entry its own sense of identity and that identity is basically sli's twelve well not that many slides 8 slides three story kicks off right in the middle of a heist with the cooper gang trying to nab something out of a vault on Kane island there's a whole bunch of new members in the gang since sly realized that he needed to bolster his roster in order to access the islands valuables plus ever since the incident with clockwork during which good old Bentley got straight-up crippled the gang hasn't exactly been the same but even with his whole crew to back him up sly is captured and given the big squeeze by the evil dr. M and that's when sly starts to reminisce flashing back to earlier vents and framing the rest of the game story to take place in the past it's kind of a cool cold open and it's intriguing to find out during the rest of the game how sly and the crew came together and planned the climactic heist to steal back all of the loot that dr. M stole from them wait are you allowed to steal back stuff that you stole in the first place like who's in the right from a legal standpoint someone call Phoenix riot we need to get to the bottom of this right now of the three games in the series sly 3 is by far the most diverse when it comes to its settings while on his recruitment world tour sly hits up Holland where he meets engineer Penelope Venice we're here Eirik roots his old friend Marie Australia where he meets the guru China where panda king joins the squad and the Caribbean where Dimitri joins the roster oh and Bentley gets in there at some point too poor poor Bentley each and every level has unique look and feel every area is its own little theme park but even these wonderful stages aren't enough to distract from the fact that players who experienced the original release of Sly 3 had to sit through several sequences that were designed around 3d and these really cute glasses that were included in the box look at these things but even though the 3d has been completely removed from the slide collection the moments when the 3d was supposed to show up are very obvious and very funny all the characters you interact with along the way are charming as hell and are generally just adorable I mean who wouldn't want to plan a heist that utilizes the skills of a hippo a panda and an iguana I want to grab them on it squeeze them all and love them all actually on second thought to meet you would probably hate that he's kind of a jerk the rest of them bow they get hugs weirdly enough asked with the previous games sly is kind of the worst acted character of the bunch while everyone else nails the performances the voice actor behind sly still sounds kind of bored sorry pal family heirloom buy a knockoff at the gift shop sure he's improved since we last heard him and slide too but he's still just a bit too aloof I really wish he had stepped up his game because he feels a bit out of place amongst the rest of the games amazing cast slide 3 soundtrack kicks all kinds of ass and it's still perfectly synced with all of the on-screen action when sly is out running around the trumpets are blaring the riffs are kickin and the drums are at full volume baby when he's sneaking around things toned down taking most of the instruments out of the equation it's still an amazingly effective way to set the tone of the game but it also makes you feel like the sneakiest little raccoon boy of all time I see I'm already starting to root for him again ah why can't I quit you you gorgeous ring tailed beast [Music] if you have played slide 2 then you pretty much know what to expect from sly 3 but not everything's the same while some of the changes to the gameplay seem like missteps the vast majority of the major changes provided by the additional playable enemy buddies are exactly the type of freshness that this series needed the wonderful stealth platforming is still in full effect with Sly and the crew still hiding from enemies as they tried to accomplish their various objectives within giant levels so I still got most of his signature moves including swinging from his crooked cane walking along power lines and crawling under small spaces even mariya Bentley's moveset have been expanded with the addition of their own pickpocketing abilities and Bentley can even use his wheelchair during missions you go get him Bentley but of course it's all about that new hotness each member of the Cooper gang possesses their own unique capabilities that make them a valuable member of the crew the Guru can transform into different objects for hiding purposes and also take over enemies minds the Panda King can blow stuff up Dimitri can swim really good Penelope you can drive in our sea card because that's useful I guess and even slice arch-nemesis turned lover Carmelita Fox is playable now those two were bound to team up one day and you know I appreciate the hell out of sly 3 mixing up the gameplay I wasn't bored with a small cast in the last two games but I might have been if they had kept that up for the final game in the trilogy more of the Cooper gang is always a good thing especially when I got to play as the Guru seriously that guy freakin rules taking over an enemy's brain and running them directly off of a cliff is one of the most criminally joyous guilty pleasures I've had in the video game but I wasn't quite in love with every character section Dimitri for example was a cool character but I did get bored during his swimming sections you know how swimming laps in the pool is the most boring thing in the world just staring at that stupid line at the bottom for hours on end yeah sorry Dimitri and sorry people who like swimming laps another big shift from the past games sliced combat prowess previously combat was dangerous either enemies could kill you in one shot or if they took long enough to kill that taking on a fight was very risky this time around you can take on entire waves of enemies by just mindlessly swinging your cane around for a series that's always been about the sneakiest boy possible it's kind of a bummer to know that I can just molly-whopped anyone that gets in my way sly is a master thief not a master of martial arts which is why I chose to play sly 3 in the way the gaming gods had intended I have a way to combat at all costs fully knowing what violence sly was capable of the beauty of video games is that I get to do whatever I want right and what I want to do is play slide 3 as a true stealth game take that sucker punch however one of the biggest losses from slide 2 to sly 3 is the removal of Clue bottles in the first game sly had to collect the bottles to unlock new skills in the second Sucker Punch added the thief's nets where you could buy gadgets in addition to the ones unlocked with clue bottles now though all the skills are procured by way of straight-up coins and that's a bummer I really loved finding all the clue bottles in every level and their removal feels like a loss of a good collectible the sheer number of abilities you can buy on the thief's net is impressive though sly has a ton of abilities that can each be leveled up by spending even more coins want to smack enemies away from you Sly's gotcha with that push attack want to go invisible shadow power is your move just coins on coins on coins on coins I guess it makes sense considering they're thieves but there aren't any bottles nothing is bottles only bottles are bottles bring back bottles I want the bottles bottles them all ok I'm done while the older games packed smaller levels full of secrets and good stuff sly 3 has much larger levels with well not a whole lot going on sure climbing and jumping your way through the larger levels is still a great time as the mechanics are still largely unchanged from the older games but the levels just feel barren enemies wander around but they're not really a threat due to sli's newfound combat prowess the older games would give you a reason to explore every nook and cranny bottles but the world of Sly 3 just feels somewhat generic thankfully the boss fights to make up for the worlds they hang out in each and every one is extremely different just like you'd expect from the sly games and these are some of the best in the series sword fighting with the pirate laugh we is almost nidhogg like in its brilliance while the crouching tiger-hidden dragon style kung fu fight with general Tsao is a highlight of the entire series I don't usually say this but I wish slide 3 had a boss rush mode I'd love to play every one of those bosses back-to-back going for the best time they're just so clever and interesting and they use the game's mechanics to their highest potential plus I just like sword fighting + plus the pirate ship battle to get to lift we was so cool for completionists though there is one big obstacle in the way the master thief challenges when I first saw the list of the challenges I was worried what the hell does master thief challenges even mean was this a series of time trials that would require tons of practice was this impossible difficulty missions for me to take on what could sly 3 have in store for me as it turns out nothing much the master thief challenges are just remixed versions of the story missions forcing me to play them under new conditions like time restraints or less health honestly they feel pretty tacked on here if they provided any real challenge maybe they'd be worth playing but I found them remarkably easy for a hard mode and flew right by them and on top of that they're basically the only completion criteria the game has besides playing through it normally slide threes campaign is really good but making me played again with a few annoyances tacked on doesn't really feel like extra content and it's not much of a completionist challenge either it feels like padding I was already so good at the game from my initial completion that I was mostly just annoyed while playing through it again this feels really weird to say and I know it's gonna come back to bite me in the ass eventually but what I'm saying is I guess I want more things to do in sly 3 I can almost feel my future self slapping my current self across the face for saying that [Music] the Sly Cooper games have always been about providing some goodies for players willing to put in that time and slide 3 is no different obtaining 100% on your file unlocks a handful of movies to watch including ones that film the gaps on the Cooper clan backstory ones that detail the development of the characters and even a music video for Dimitri's theme these videos may not seem like a whole lot but as a relatively new Sly Cooper fan I was so to get as many peaks behind the curtain as possible especially when you consider that unlocking these rewards wasn't that hard to pull off at worst the master thief challenges and coin collecting were annoyances but I never wanted to chuck my controller across a room slide 3 at its core is an incredibly enjoyable and pleasant game that definitely avoids the trilogy curse wait there was a fourth Sly Cooper oh it's all over nothing escapes the fourth entry hex while I completed sly 3 honour among thieves there were three deaths for new pals recruited into the Cooper gang 6 world's beaten including their master thief challenges 13 hours of total playtime and one pair of 3d glasses that will never hurt anyone ever again Sly Cooper 3 feels like a near perfect finish for the trilogy it still brings all the very best parts about Sly Cooper and introduces some cool new features too it may not be that challenging and it may not reward you with that much but it's still more than worth it to go on one last heist with the Cooper gang sly 3 honour among thieves is a great game that avoids those trilogy and book problems that games and movies kind of tend to fall into I will say that I missed a lot of the early elements from sly one and slide 2 in this game and it does kind of put a damper on the overall completion criteria but at the end of the day sly 3 is a fantastic game so with that in mind guys I give this game my completionist reading of finish it that's all coming up today guys so please as always let me little taste episode somewhere on the internet if you liked what you saw
