Whenever slipknot comes up I keep thinking about this song.
Give it 15 seconds before you close it to understand.
I saw Slipknot probably a year after Vol. 3 dropped and it was probably the best produced concert I've ever experienced. They opened with "Prelude 3.0" and had a white cloth covering the entire stage so all you could see their contorted shadows. Song leads immediately into "The Blister Exists", cloth drops and mayhem ensued. Visually, I don't think you can open a concert any cooler than that.
Must have been sick to get to take part in that video.
I don't think anyone will see this now but I'd like to share a story. I was in a band called Reggie and the Full Effect and one tour in 2007 Paul Gray aka #2 ( RIP) played bass in the band with me. It's a long story as to how he ended up spending some off time with us in a van on a us tour but I got to know him very well. He was the most humble, generous, talented and funny dudes I ever have met. I was a slipknot fan prior to this very strange situation so I kept my cool about it all. He was also using drugs the whole tour even though we were all aware he needed to be away from it. I acted as his "handler" as well and band mate. He got sick of riding in the van and actually ended up flying myself him and whoever else wanted to go to the next tour stop instead of enduring a van ride in winter through Colorado. The best memory of his generosity was this. We had a day off in Denver and we were walking around and went to the Nike store. As we were browsing I made a passing mention as to how I liked a certain sneaker. A little while of browsing and goofing off we are about to leave and he goes to the register with a couple things. I walk out being I didn't buy anything and he comes out and hands me a bag. It was the shoes, in the right size, that I had just passively mentioned I liked. I still have those shoes and his phone number saved in my phone. He was a great man under his addictions. I wish he could have overcame them.
I'm not a massive fan of most of Slipknot's music, but I love this song.
I was never really into Slipknot aside from this song and Wait and Bleed, but they were a gateway band for a lot of people to get into more underground and heavier metal bands. Can't really hate on that. It's interesting to me that I could have really been a huge fan of this band in my teenage years but they didn't really show up on the scene until Wait and Bleed and by then was just getting into heavier bands like Pantera and Slayer.
I did catch the end of their set at Ozzfest one year and they definitely bring it live.
Just waiting for /r/metal to spill out and tell us this isn't metal.
Edit: Ah, they have arrived.
Edit 2: Just to rustle some more jimmies, metal god Rob Halford considers Slipknot to be metal.
