i'm phil guyman i was a pro cyclist for 10 years now i'm retired but i still train as hard as i can to set the best times on the toughest climbs i can find and go on fun adventures on my bike all over the world this is worst retirement ever hi folks welcome to another episode of worst retirement ever i'm here in orange county today we're at newport beach california [Music] this is paul ripka who you might remember from the uh the napa episode hello my name is paul i'm from germany and in germany we chug wine what happened apparently at some point that week well a couple things one i was hanging out with you know there was a pandemic last year you guys might be aware of this and i think i forgot how to exist in society and talk to new people um so we were hanging out at a table after the thing and i think someone was comparing how fast i went up the the in grade kom to how fast paul went up and and i might have talked about your arms first of all we talked about it yeah conversation about how i don't remember skinny your arms are okay and then you kind of started making a correlation between the amount of butter i'm eating during dinner meaning me being fed i i might have i might have made a disparaging remark about paul's weight i meant nothing by it um other than i might have been trying to be humble as far as like you know if if you if we weighed the same you'd smash me yeah and and afterwards you discussed this on on your podcast correct and i told my friend and my podcast is i'm calling a friend on monday okay he asked me how's the weekend how was the last weekend did you talk about it and i said well i met this guy he fetches me three days long and a couple people sent me messages about about paul's comments uh and and one of them was that i fat shamed paul but my girlfriend was pretty cool and i was like yeah that's about right it's uh i like gambling a lot yeah that's cool i think that's what you said on the podcast is phil's phil's a jerk and uh and emily's all right and i'm like yeah it's a fair assessment um but it gave it so i sent you a message apologizing for whatever i might have said totally fine i accepted any apology and i said but come down to newport there is a hill we do up to el moro sunset ridge kind of thing right newport coast and and i'm gonna put exactly the weight difference on you so you feel how my life is on a bike okay so first i'm going to weight myself 263 463 pounds okay that's that's where that's where some of that is yeah the uh i heard i heard advice the other day that if you're trying to lose weight you should lose weight in pounds it's much more satisfying lose weight in kilos yeah cause it goes a lot faster i i like that advice hang on emily can you help yeah can you fill him i need someone to hold the camera uh i don't trust creature to do it okay all right so i'm gonna stand on the scale and he's gonna put weights on me okay we start slow oh okay this is gonna take a long time we're gonna have to do better than this okay next one a bulletproof military grade oh vest okay all right how are you gonna be able to ride like that i'm not sure i don't i don't like the idea of uh turning or going downfield for sure i did bring my disc brake bike i also i didn't bring my super light bike you'll be happy to know do you have a weight limit on your i don't know if the i i never looked up the factor van probably does have a limit i think the o2 disc is fine uh which is the one i brought i brought my workhorse buddy you know that's what you need yeah all right forward and this we do the other way around bring it look top heavy at this point you are well yeah i'm two 250. still not there no hang on we'll put water bottles we'll put full water bottles on my bike and then we're there i'll put i'll have full bottles or you can you just you just need this just carry this off yeah but now we take uh the car to the bottom of it yeah because i don't think it's safe to no i'm definitely we both want to go but they don't fall down interesting all right but now we're gonna spin to the bottom of the hill where we're ready to race all right and here we are solid transition right you've appeared here magically youtube content is yeah you have real stuff i should take notes okay so you're on your vest i'm bulletproof so i've not done recon you know it's it's a little over two miles right yes two miles a thousand feet of climbing it's kind of a lot for a youtube gag okay yeah fine yeah like it's it's it's as much as i could do i thought it was gonna be like a two-minute climb and this sounds more like 20. yeah it is a 20-minute clip okay i'm not used to like leaving all my stuff but we're trying to make up the weight so i'm to have two full bottles i've got my lock and all my extra i got a bunch of food in here yeah um i'm doing i'm doing the lactico though i every little bit counts what is that um it's a it's a performance or recovery gel it's kind of a painkiller it's good for after i like it before um but i'll put more on you want some yeah yeah never all right do this can you go a little lower i'm gonna do your leg there you go oh that's what a big calf feels like weird all right another one please too yeah it makes sense otherwise you'll pedal in circles yeah there you go oh all right great product okay she's ready let's hit it how many watts are you yeah my back hurts my shoulders hurt even the biggest guys in the world tour i think rifle's like 180 pounds they look big but they're not cadence 49 i'm close to the throw up how about you knock it formula one pizza okay i have to pee what's formula one i'm american you threw up my mouth but i swallowed it i didn't see that coming you go straight or catch up in a little bit just need to pee mmm thank you emily you're welcome how's it feeling horrible i'm close to throwing as i told you guys emily is much nicer than phil got this paul get him go get him and now phil is getting what he deserves ah that's my style how are you feeling my back really hurt i mean my legs hurt obviously yeah my back hurts more than i expected what are you doing what is that i'm getting cancellared over here he's not gonna like that joke he's a friend of mine fabian i love you down here that's good right downhill is fantastic is this how a sprinter feels yeah i have bad news for you what's that the nasty part is now next look at his face now and then we cut to in like five minutes how far is it it all is 11 the whole way up yeah oh my god i'm not going to pay for boy that's my goal i'm not going
