right there seeing the dark thing we've got to get it up to the right of them if you're a female fly lady angler and you love to fish all roads lead to here you might go to Belize and fish for permanent and smaller tarpon and bone fish or go to the Bahamas and catch bone fish there you know maybe you'll go to Brazil for peacock bass but eventually you want to catch an island round a tarpon I mean it is the apex really of fly-fishing in my opinion and so I think that the tournament represents sort of the pinnacle of this competition for fer ladies and it's a place where ladies can come and meet other women talk about where they've been what they've been doing and then compete as well and I would love to see more women come to Isla Mirada I want to show them this town I for me to see things through their eyes and to show them what I love about the keys about fishing about tarpon I get to relive the whole experience of what I fell in love with and so each new person that comes here to do that it's like I get to fall in love all over again it's super super super cool just like that the other to live at all I gave it to him what now we're getting caught up not getting caught up in the world tarpon fishing attracts anglers of all shapes and sizes the challenge and excitement of the sport brings thousands of people down to the Florida Keys every year and a large percentage of those are women isla Merida has been home to the ladies tarpon fly tournament for 38 years since 1977 women anglers from all over the world have traveled to Isla Mirada to fish this event it is a catch and release format that has attracted many premier lady fly anglers and guides throughout its history its reputation is that of a fun social gathering of friends friends who respect the fishery and love to share in the joy of tarpon fishing the chairwoman of the tournament is world record holder Heidi news going into day one I'm just thinking I hope I just don't oh I'll and seriously I worry about it it's not about how good you are it's how good you are the three days of the tournament Heidi is fishing with local guide Craig Brewer BOE is paired with his friend shade all they have fished this tournament together for several years and have good team chemistry that's good sign what's that yeah they're gonna be a little bit more active I would think if they're out here today you know here 10 there somewhere now he is like the mayor of the guides I would say you know he's so cool and fun off the water real mellow and fun on the water but then there's also times where you can see his passion you know shine through you know where he's like he is passionate about the fishery loves love's fly tarpon fishing and and he's just a very unique personality and a good character to have down here come on eating I got him got him nice job okay okay there okay here we go right down low stick your rod down low I have to tell you that I have sued Heidi fight fish before on my boat in that girl weighs maybe maybe a hundred and ten pounds maybe dance but I'll tell you right now she can flat-out bites and fish and so the technique is more of you know what gets you to where you want
