Silver Dollar City! Last Ride on Fire in the Hole! Unbelievable Christmas Lights! - Branson, MO

hey you all carpet bagger here coming to you live from the great state of Missouri more specifically than that we're in Branson Missouri and even more specifically than that we are here at Silver Dollar City it's wonderful amusement park out in the Branson area kind of the sister Park of Dollywood and I've never been out here for the Christmas season before that's kind of why we made this little Sid track over to Branson as I really wanted to see um really wanted to see Silver Dollar City at Christmas time they have one of the largest light displays in the country I think it was voted the most illuminated theme park in the country as far as Christmas lights go so it showed up here a little early before uh before the uh before the Christmas lights were on wanted to kind of enjoy the park today and then hopefully once the sun sets we can enjoy some of the Christmas magic so please follow [Music] me I guess when it's cold out they have to turn off their water clock cuz it might freeze and uh this causes the the water clock to be highly inaccurate in fact it even says that it is 1883 welcome to the city cap says you have a great past ahead of you I guess we we're taking maybe a step backwards into the pass here at Silver Dollar [Music] City woo Tidings to you and Tiding [Music] Christmas as we enter you can see almost every square foot of the park all these buildings covered in Christmas lights be interesting to see what it looks like uh in the dark so we enter here through the hospitality house you can see the Marvel cave tours are uh are posted now the original attraction here before Silver Dollar City was just a cave tour called Marvel cave it's supposedly a really cool cave I've never had the chance to go in I've never had the the time to dedicate to the cave tour and I don't think I have time today to do the cave tour but I think I'm going to make I'm going to make a promise I'm going to come back here to Silverado City and I'm going to I'm going to take this cave tour at some point all right so we have entered the park here I'm not very familiar with the layout of the park I think this is actually only the third time I've been here so we're going to kind of wander around and uh see what we can find I mentioned that Silver Dollar City a sister Park to Dollywood and uh Dollywood used to have an attraction called the professor's Mansion um and that has been extinct for quite some time however here at Silver Dollar City they have a uh their own version called The Grandfather's Mansion so I figure we'd uh step in and and check this out it's a good place to start although look at that look at that is that the grandfather up there peeking you see him peeking out the window is that you grandfather he's wearing a Santa's hat he's peeking at [Music] us okay you can see got music box little dancing figures inside grandpa says stand AR walk slow as we head into the Mansion here things are becoming disorientating oh and there's uh Grandpa there in his uh in his bedroom just rocking away in his rocking chair see his bed there on the ceiling uh-oh his chamber pots on the ceiling that's dangerous I'm afraid you get some leakage out of that see the clocks hanging upside down yeah this is really cool it's like a mystery house type [Music] attraction says do not look Let's uh let's give it a little a little peek and oh no you see Grandpa there in the shower scrubbing his head as we walk through grandfather's Mansion here you can see things come a little slanty a little disorientating here see The Grandfather's pool table there oh the ball goes and the ball oh look at that ball look at the swing the swing on that ball that's a it's a masteral trick shot there is it going to come again there we this is one shot I never miss watch [Music] so here we have the uh the bed that we invited to uh take a nap on all right let's uh lay down here on the on the bed okay now let's see what it says up above us it says after laying flat on your back try Rising without using your hands and legs for assistance all right so just basically we just got to try to sit up here yeah it's possible it's possible one of the main mysteries of of Grandpa's grandfather Mansion is you can't you can't get out of bed and actually I'm like slowly being crushed against the wall here all right we're te we're going to use our hands here to get out of bed yeah there's no explaining no explaining the mysteries of grandfather's Manion all right you ready what's behind this fence here oh look at that you see that water faucet floating in the air emptying water with nothing nothing connecting it to any water source look at this picture I the feeling that a picture's watch you I feel you guys see that don't you you guys see that I think the picture is maybe maybe peeking at us all right as we exit Through The Grandfather's Mansion we see 8 million of me there says hurry out we lost our lease it was in Grandpa's desk just yesterday head back out into the park I'm sure this is all going to look pretty amazing once uh once it's illuminated it's a puppet shop over here look at these cool puppets the mermaid there there's some Camel characters look at this camel there in a leather jacket there's little guy here maybe celebrating Marty G and over here we have uh uh one of the main reasons that I wanted to make sure I came out here in uh 2023 because they're uh they're dark right here fire in the hole is actually going to be closed down at the end of this season this is only the last opportunities to ride uh fire in the hole so fire in the hole a dark ride roller coaster combo mostly a dark ride but it has a few drops at the end um is a ride that opened in 1972 and its sister attraction uh Blazing Fury opened in Dollywood just a few years later now it's very interesting very interesting theme for for this dark ride it is it it has kind of a fireman theme but um also a very interesting local theme and that is the the the villains of the ride the bald knobbers now the bald knobbers a real group of Vigilantes they wore strange masks they had like rabbit ears or horns on top of their black masks with like circles around their white circles and white white designs on their face and um the theme Here is apparently based on a real historical story about a town the first town that was originally here was actually burned to the ground and some people blamed the bald knobbers so uh through the ride you travel through a flame flaming Village that the bald knobbers have set on fire they're they're wrecking havoc on uh on the town and uh it is uh it is pretty amazing you know you got lots of mannequins some simple animatronics just a lot of a lot of fun a lot of old school fun here now the uh the news isn't all bad cuz when I heard this I was very very sad to hear that that fire in the hole was um was being uh was being closed down but there is a silver lining here because uh next year they're supposed to be opening up another fire in uh in the hole the the new version so they're closing down this version completely empting out this and in another section of the park they are rebuilding fire in the hole a as a new state-of-the-art attraction apparently millions of dollars gone into this new attraction um everything I've heard it looks like it's keeping the same theme keeping the same ideas using a you know but but a complete rehaul you know I don't know if I've ever seen an amusement park theme park do that where they close down an attraction and uh and then immediately um immediately just rebuild the attaction from the ground up so this should be really interesting to see I'll definitely want to come back and check out the new fire in the hole but for now it's time to go and take our last ride okay we're all good okay so how are we doing this since they're G and our final Chariot oh wait see the murals of some of the different firemen there Benny chin and Ed brooms but then over here we have a portrait of one of the notorious bald knobbers bald coming Grand children don't be slow Ball's coming there's fire in the hole grab your clothes and need your home Ball's coming and won't be long Fire on the Mountain be cold fire on the M fire in the ho fire on the m't be C fire on the M fire in the come here daughter come here son ball everybody gra your forget your no time now R be slow Fire on the Mountain Fire run run so that was my final ride on fire in the hole now sadly sadly I was not able to document uh the inside of the ride they did uh they did say I could not film that I had to put my leave my camera in uh in the station but if you want to go on YouTube you can watch a ride through uh there's some other YouTubers but I'm not going to I'm not going to sneak you know you got to you got to you got to follow the rules they tell me to put it away I have to as sad as I am as as much as I would like to like covertly you know strap something to my chest but no no no you got to follow the rules I don't want to don't want to be banned from uh from Silver Dollar City but beside the point yeah it's it's an amazing ride it's it's it's wonderful uh like I said you go through like a a flaming Village a lot of Sly the same similar scenes as Blazing Fury in Dollywood with these strange bald knobbers causing problems throughout there's like a scene where a BAL knobber like there's a dump Barrel on you um there's a scene where they're hanging a Bald Knob or some very interesting stuff so yeah I wish ideally I wish they could keep this and do the new experience give us a new ride keep this old one really sad to to see a classic attraction go they did give me the sticker this fire in the whole Grand Finale Rider so I can cherish this and keep this as a as a remembrance of fire in uh in the hole and I I definitely recommend go out there watch one of the other uh POV ride throughs it really is an amazing ride uh and yeah and that is the end that is the end of an arrow there fire in the hole and here I have some uh fire in the hole merchandise yeah you can see Last Ride you get the commemorative uh Last Ride says red Flanders you come back here and put on your pants it's like a yeah a guy uh like crawling out of a window in his underwear says red Landers come come in here and put on your pants I think he says I think he says the ball knobber stole his pants if I remember correctly oh wow I think I might I think I want I think I think I want this shirt here they fir in the hole since 1972 Fire on the Mountain beware of bald knobbers that's pretty that's pretty it's pretty amazing there may have to make a purchase now uh I I said you can't take photos or video on the ride but here is a photo off where you can uh pretend like you are on the ride you see the scene there that's where the uh where the Bal knobber stole his [Music] pants it's an old timey church here the Wilderness church and and believe it or not right here in the middle of the theme park they are having church service this quiet please church service in [Music] progress is sing with on Earth good still she's [Music] okay I do want to come over here and check out the other dark ride here at Silver Dollar City the flooded mine as far as I know this is going to continue operating but who knows you never know when they're going to tear it down and build a new flooded [Music] mine so I know I'm mentioning Dollywood a lot but Dollywood actually used to be Silver Dollar City there was two silver dollar cities before Dolly Parton came in and put her name on the park but back in the Silver Dollar City days uh Dollywood had the flooded mine as well so they actually had those those three attractions the uh Blazing Fury SL fire in the hole the uh flooded mine and The Grandfather's SL professor's Mansion was at both parks so see these slowly uh slowly when whittel away and now I think yeah they had now it's uh no park there there's only one version of each of those rides left between the two parks so hopefully the flooded mine will be here uh for years to come now flooded mine has a kind of an interesting and somewhat dark premise behind it it is actually a prison mine there is a there is convicted convicts doing labor in the mind and it's flooded then at some point they installed uh guns so you can actually shoot at the convicts who are in a a mine that is currently flooding so yeah kind of a kind of a dark premise so we head into the uh County Prison mine here says uh admit it's my pass only or Warden say so no firearms allowed although there are firearms on the ride and no talking to inmates this is say The Unlucky silver mine here oh there 's the uh Warden right there his name is n o parole cuz you never get paroled because he's a a crooked cruel Warden says WP warber Warden I thought no o parole was Warden they have two wardens take a peek here in the warden's office you can see he's a he's a talking he's a talking photograph up the next St [Music] hey how's it going I hope you enjoyed your our have a seat on a red dot on a red dot your guns are not glowing red all right here is our uh our firearm for shooting at the inmates it's kind of like a train of boats here which is interesting [Music] there on why my mother can work faster than you guys bunch of lazy bum sleeping on the C hit some of the targets here says do not feed the prisoner guards playing cards see this prisoner uh jackhammering there oh yeah this guy's getting absolutely poured [Music] on that guy in the tub there the water spinning out of his mouth all these guys up in the mine [Music] car get off me up there see them trying to escape there there all day get out of here see the canary up there he's still alive so that's good [Music] news oh here comes the giant saw going to chop our boat now oh okay that Canary's that Canary's dead that's not that's not good ohoh some dangerous explosives there a barrel floating in the water oh God there we go there's the explosion oh my go quite an explosion there oh watch out it's a wild wild skunk there oh there's a hand just popped up out of the grave oh a super spooky skeleton in that clet there the guy up here the tower hurry up there's the Sleepy guard up hurry up see the flooded uh flooded Cemetery look that that that Tombstone says Bob I think that's a a a a joke for the water like you bob up and down when you're in the water Bob there's like a warship of some sort right [Music] there explosion all right heading back into the station a nativity scene over there see little baby Jesus over here got the Little Drummer Boy and uh here's a new character I wasn't famili Amar with the little floter [Music] boy I don't have anything in place oh nothing zero s buddy are you talking about the Christmas celebration yes oh Tinker J your left me and 1 2 3 Merry Christmas [Applause] merry Christmas everybody P Junior welcome to the Celebration we're so glad you could join us it wouldn't be the same without you a thanks rgy an well that's treemendous it's Tre tusting I got a million of these it's great to celebrate with family family and friends nope not my family what's wrong with your family uh those trees are a bunch of [Music] nuts all right we're heading here into fireman's Landing this is actually going to be the home of the new uh fire in the hole uh attraction this massive uh Firehouse here in the center fireman's Landing think there's like a a play area inside there this old timey fire truck and it does kind of make sense you know fire in the whole having the firefighter theme kind of definitely fits into the theming of this area maybe a little bit better have the firehouse dalmati there prancing around a fire hydrant [Music] so we have a fenced off section here but if you look there over top the fence that is the uh building for the new fire in the hole you see the banner there says calling all heroes fire in the hole new in 24 so uh we have to wait till next year to be able to get behind that fence and check out the brand new uh fire in the hole attraction you can see they actually have a some pictures here of uh of the new fire on the hole and it looks it looks very promising I uh I must say and look at this you can actually see they have some of the uh some of the same scenes they have the the guy with his underwear crawling out the window The Burning Bridge um I think it looks like I don't know could it possibly be just like a scene for scene Recreation oh look down here you can see uh yeah looks like looks like they may just be literally remaking it um much like I guess you remake a movie with new special effects they're remaking fire in the hole with uh with new effects I'm going to withhold judgment as much as I hate to see the old one go um it's pretty exciting to think uh if if they're going if they're going to do it the right way uh it could be could be a very amazing uh attraction yeah look at here like you can even see that's you can see the the ears there that uh I think that's a bald knobber are actually going to keep the bald knobbers be pretty uh pretty amazing so yeah looks like it might just be a a a straight up Recreation um sticking with the same story line interesting I you got withhold judgment until I get a chance to ride this myself and you making and look who joined us hi you're at Silver Dollar City I'm here you made it at Uber you got here we at Uber yes and uh what we what are we doing now we're going to meet some characters some characters what kind of characters and buff and maybe the Snowman and who else I don't know I don't know here is yeah Timmy the dentist Timmy the dentist I don't know which so apparently it's Rudolph characters I don't know which characters it is I I would love to meet the Bumble I think he's my favorite but uh I mean I want to meet Rudolph you want to meet Rudolph he's your favorite I think so Timmy's also weird I want them to have all the misfit toys and yeah well I mean temper your expectations I don't think there going to be like I don't think there going to be like character showing up the couple's okay all right someone told me earlier that Rudolph would be meeting at the Gazebo but apparently that was incorrect cuz over here next to these uh this gate here we have uh Rudolph been Rudolph been Rudolph sighting all right we got Rudolph and Clarice here rudol oh how are you Clarice oh doing good kiss oh you got a Rudolph kiss hi Clarice oh you're so cute I love that all right oh what's he doing oh he's doing his rph doing the Rudolph dance there oh that's pretty that's some good dancing oh look at [Laughter] that oh my goodness it's so great so great meeting you guys that is some great dancing all right we got to get in here by a so awesome love you guys oh yay green she excited we got to meet go home now oh no there's more to see oh okay that was the highlight of my my life Rudolph was looking at my Moth Man I know was he did he say he was scared scar he seemed excited he was he like The Moth Man I think so Rudolph's a fan of moth man who knew yeah I didn't know for sure so I'm so excited I never got to meet one of your favorite it's one of your favorites isn't it yes we watched I was TR to say we watched it last year but I think we watched the um Rudolph's New Year's oh yeah the little the little known the shiny new year which the little known sequel which is amazing cuz it's absolutely Bonkers it's like Rudolph traveling through time and it's there's like all there's dinosaurs and like medieval knights and it's Frank Goron who plays the Riddler and Batman 66 plays this night where he's like and he's really good no it's so amazing anyone who hasn't checked it check it out also we put I think actually we put on the other night now I'm thinking about it we put on Rudolph on YouTube with the original commercials yeah that's where they had the ET yeah where we saw the uh the ET uh the ET Atari game commercial which we both were like a couldn't believe it it's ET absolutely so excited Clarice I didn't know clarice's name I had to look at first I'm a bad Rudolph fan and I said hello Clarice I was like oh oh I I guess that's for something else so I sadly it was just them not the Bumble but hopefully maybe maybe we'll see the Bumble in the in the parade tonight oh maybe that's why Rudolph likes mockman cuz he likes the Bumble he he's actually has a personal knowledge of Crypton yeah I think that's it got a gingerbread family here along with their gingerbread couch look at the gingerbread armrest the gingerbread armrest they have a face now Jen we actually uh we struck out big time oh you're right because when we went to the Polar Express and we saw the couch made of snowman we called it a snch and we couldn't think of a better name and several people commented that it's obviously called a snowa that's the best like that was the best yeah we failed like but so what would a gingerbread couch be called I feel like it's obvious but I can't think of it anyways want to sit on the gingerbread couch I know I'm all staring at it like how yeah all right there you go you got your little gingerbread handrest there right don't poke him in the eye oh I'm sorry okay not his gun drop eyes stopped here to get a little snack got a couple of pickles is that a good pickle it's a good pickle what's wrong is your mouth full of pickle we full of pickle oh yeah got our Christmas pickles here I think you know there is a connection between Christmas and pickles that's what I was going to ask you don't they they uh in Germany they hang pickles on their Christmas tree I'm German so we should hang we should hang I'm too maybe we need to save these pickles and put them on our Christmas oh no did you eat your pickle already now we can't put it on the Christmas tree no no we could just cting pickle on the tree I guess pretty good pickle I like it oh my God you're a smelling pickle for the rest of the day it's okay I like to smell a pickle oh yeah you can definitely see The Illuminating lights all turning on it's actually when you're on this bridge it has like the sound effect of horse Hooves and sleigh bells piped in to add to the effect of going over the bridge I guess here's the toll booth guy the toll collector he's got his elf hat on for the season see people lining up for the parade but before the parade starts we have the uh Christmas tree lighting over here Christmas everywhere go Jen why are you suddenly wearing glowing uh glowing uh candy canes I'm festive you decided to to to Christmas it up and know a candy cane I thought skulls weren't very Christmasy so um some candy can try to adjust them they're like stabby they're stabbing you yeah is that better yeah that's good okay five 4 3 2 1 Merry Christmas oh there he [Applause] goes oh yeah look at this tree here all the special effects oh look at that got a little Bells prancing around the tree pretty amazing as far as Christmas trees go you see the bushes here are actually synced as well to the music pretty crazy having a good time J all right the prade should be arriving here any moment it's the Bumble oh my gosh love the Bumble coming right down here in the Main Street area of Silver Dollar City got the elf out front bumble bumble hey how are you doing I love you bum oh bumbles bounce oh look there's reindeer we know him we met him Rudolph w [Music] W Oh there's uh is that Sam the Snowman Sam how are you Merry Christmas oh look how cute look at the little racon there put the ornaments on the tree oh there's Santa Santa how are you Merry Christmas Merry Christmas Santa Santa what is that I love it so much what is going on it's like a hat oh my gosh look at a hat with a moose head oh my gosh that's interesting thing I've ever seen that's very interesting interesting Santa came in the middle of the parade normally he comes at the very end we got some more stuff coming got the ballerina has like a music box right there oh and a rocking uh rocking horse there as [Music] well oh was that are they saying go lucky go is that lucky lucky the Fire Dog there oh stop okay as name name takes his lucky guess that's the uh mascot of the uh the fire uh Fire District 1 2 3 Merry Christmas 1 2 3 Merry Christmas it's a big Christmas ornament the Silver Dollar City on it got an elf in a snow globe [Music] there Christmas this here got a little dog got his tail stuck there in the uh in the Christmas tree now check out this candy Kate here that's pretty amazing he's so hug Cy can hey there yeah candy can oh my gosh that candy can oh was that Mrs gloss there she [Applause] baking oh yeah look at the elf there I love the elf apparently I love the wob guys look at the Elf oh my goodness that's a lot of fun right there oh my goodness oh here comes the [Music] Terin the Silver Dollar City Express here angel it's like a big stained glass window here so the fre doesn't with Santa it ends with Jesus I think we're going to grab some food here at uh Miss Molly's Mill Restaurant says they are having a traditional holiday buffet that looks pretty yummy you're at the uh Buffet getting some salad there Jen I hungry all right let's get some uh get some carrots real Pro just po meat on top of there that's what I'm going to do get some green beans green beans as well Jen didn't leave any room for meat on her plate no I don't know what I'm going to do you going vegetarian I think I'm just eating Sid all right so yeah we got some veggies we got the green beans carrots and got some turkey there and some ham I was smelling ham somewhere out in the park I started craving ham yeah I've been craving ham now too and I got a fried chicken thigh as well it's turn to Ste with the the meat and vegetables and look who else is joining us for our Christmas dinner Merry Christmas Boogie and Desi there have you guys you guys have been having a good day in the park today it's been amazing it's been a really fun time uh it's really fome Silver Dollar City really glad you came because it is just such a wholesome experience and I don't know it's well worth the ticket price $89 all this Glory yeah yeah it's really cool I've never been here for Christmas before so you think of that tree was this tree tree lighting was pretty amazing the parade was a lot of fun so I don't know if you know this you might remember I I think I have heard that the tree and a lot of these lights came from Disney I've heard the same I've heard the same rumor apparently they won't they will not confirm that but appar a lot of people suspect that the old Disney light light show is uh is actually here what's worth coming out alone but I mean fire in the hole yeah going away going away makes me sad all right so digging into the Christmas Feast there to my turkey it's like smokey smokey turkey [Music] interesting really good ham I was praying the ham I tried the Fried Chicken as well very humorous in [Music] the yeah everything's really good some of the vegetables this is kind of like almost like green bean casserole I don't see any like Crunchies in it but last year very tasty little Christmas dinner here see down here they have some of their famous uh Christmas lights as we head this way yeah just look at that there's the uh grandfather's Mansion all illuminated just all these buildings completely covered with lights you like the lights Jen yeah no it's crazy yeah look at that you can see the Angels flapping their angel wings up there yeah this is actually really beautiful seeing all the buildings lit up oh look at this you can actually have the uh casket there uh covered in lights brother this one oh no dead on Christmas oh no that's not a good present yeah you can see up there there's like a rotating train yeah a little circular train rotating above the building there yeah these lights are amazing yeah look up there see that Christmas tree is like floating in midair and you can see the moon up there too here you can see Santa and his uh eight tiny reindeer trotting through the sky up there it's a big rotating [Music] Globe leg feels like walking through some sort of Wonderland a uh a winter wonderland if you will yeah look down here as we head down the not a good down the hill such a cool [Music] [Applause] [Music] view all right I think we're going to hop a ride here on the uh Silver Dollar City train I think we're going to sit here in the back because of course the back gives you a Wilder ride all right Boogie you like trains train train train I will tell you so I love these cold garding trains yeah because growing up we burn coal for heat and of course I'm son of a coal miner and every time that coal hits your nose feels so good but trains We Like Trains We Love Trains we're trained people yeah trains are okay no I mean I like just thought it was funny how everyone was like train train train train train train train train TR now folks I did say that this is a sing along steam train if you're all ready to sing I guess we'll get some things started here with a little bit of Holly Jolly christmasm Boogie you don't know this song I don't know all of the words I know the important parts hly knows the words that's itly Christmas here it's a holly Christmas this year see the lights As We Roll by oh like wolves blowing wolves [Music] [Music] Wes here to get him there what's the name of that reindeer Rudolph oh yes it's Rudolph you okay T I love Rudolph rain going through the light tunnel here on the oh there they are's the reindeer a moonshine still back there there's the reindeer potatoes there was always all kinds of wonderful things like Christmas cakes and pies all over the table after we finished eating we'd all go into the family room and there' be Grandpa you know there was a man that lived a long time ago that taught us to have that Spirit year round now he was a special man who lived a special life and yeah well died a special death thank you Grandpa for that wonderful gift byee Grandpa by Granda Merry Christmas B one W say Merry Christmas Car 2 wave say Merry Christmas car three wave say Merry Christmas and car four wave and say happy New Year boogies in line getting some wasle which is apparently some exotic Christmas drink got your hot wasle there here we come a was one right I'm not old of wasle but I'm just everyone here is it good it's like a really warm hot spicy apple cider it's really good is yummy yeah oh so hot oh it's so good Jen's got some wasle there I did I've been wanting it all night is what is it it's like it's so good it's good what does it taste like cider but I heard it has like orange juice too orange juice all right yeah I don't normally drink hot beverages I don't drink coffee I don't drink tea so I'm probably going to hate this let's see I don't think you're going to like it you I'm to like it is it going to burn my mouth no it's not that hot yeah I don't like it there's a lot of cinnamon cinnamon in there it's really hot it burned my tongue super scalding and uh yeah it tastes like apple juice and delicious I just I don't like anything hot I don't like drink anything that's hot I something weird about me I don't I don't drink hot things but it's good it's okay i' rather have some cold nice cold apple juice oh yeah I I like that though uh-oh they just turned the lights out the cre Christmas tree's out they turned the lights out I guess you don't have to go home but you can't stay here so thank you for joining me here tonight at Silver Dollar City had a wonderful day and a wonderful evening here with some good friends got to a ride uh fire in the hole for the final time that's uh puts a little little bit of a tear in my eye although I I definitely want to come back and uh and ride the new version uh when it finally uh is complete they say spring of next year especially it's going to be open when the park opens next year so maybe we'll get to check that out um also the lights here are absolutely amazing some of the best Christmas lights that I have
