hey what's up you guys welcome back to the channel today we're taking a look at the sig p229 legion [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] do [Music] so [Music] so the 229 is definitely not a new gun by any means as a matter of fact some people might even go so far as to say at this point it's a little bit outdated um and you definitely couldn't fault people for thinking like that we're definitely in the generation of striker fire handguns and more recently the trend has been to make those handguns as slim as possible while maximizing ammo capacity so this gun metal framed hammer fired and definitely not on the slim side is kind of counterintuitive to what's popular in the market right now so it kind of does beg the question is this gun even still relevant and to that i would say uh this gun is actually a great reminder of the fact that if something's been around for a long time and would stood the test of time there's probably a good reason why so let's go ahead and talk about all the reasons why i think this is a fantastic gun so the first thing i have to comment on is the trigger i think sig absolutely knocked it out of the park with the srt trigger the double action pull is definitely on the heavier side as you would expect but it never feels unwieldy or just ungodly heavy feels really smooth but the single action is where i think this trigger actually really shines once you break that initial shot and you feel that incredibly short reset you're able to get follow-up shots pretty quickly um the wall is definitely not as firm however some of my other guns like my glock or my p320 and there's actually a small amount of creep before the trigger breaks which i typically don't like but on this gun it just works so overall this trigger is great the double action pole is the perfect amount of heavy without being too unwieldy and the light single action paired with the incredibly short reset of the srt trigger make for an awesome shooting experience so the sights on this gun i think are also another talking point even though i typically don't run iron sights anymore i've pretty much transitioned to pistol optics if i had to run iron sights these would definitely be an option that i would be happy to run because they're already configured exactly how i like my iron sights to be set up primarily the dot on the front side is very bright while the dots on the rear side are dimmed down and the dot on the front side is also a lot larger than the dots on the rear sight so pretty much the rear sights provide the bare minimum necessary to support the front sight and to get proper side alignment and since i am focusing on the front sight when i'm using irons i don't really like when the rear side tries to be part of the show as well so even though i am planning on getting an optic on this thing asap i thought it was worth bringing up how the iron sights for what they are are pretty great so the next thing i really like about this gun is the ergonomics the frame comes with a good amount of checkering not only on the grip but also on the magazine release the slide catch and the decocker the texturing provides a good amount of grip without being too abrasive so you don't have to worry about this thing tearing up your hands or your skin or your shirt if you plan on conceal carrying this thing the reduced beaver tail provides a good reference point and a good wedge for my hand to get a good consistent grip every single time some people do prefer the full beavertail of the 229 elite but i think the beavertail and the legion works just fine so getting into recoil i can say that the metal frame definitely does help dampen the amount of felt recoil on this gun as a matter of fact i didn't realize how soft shooting this thing was until i tried to shoot my p320 right after and i felt the amount of snap on the 320 compared to the 229. so even with the higher bore axis that people tend to complain about when it comes to sig i found this gun very easy to control so overall the shooting experience of this gun just feels natural even though i've only put about 500 rounds through it which is definitely not a high round count it feels like i've been shooting this thing for years and so for a factory gun to feel like it was made specifically for me i think is a huge testament to what this platform is capable of but even though i obviously do love this thing there are a few minor gripes that i do have for one along with the beavertail sig also reduced the slide catch as well as the decocker this is supposed to help aid in concealment apparently but the downside to that is that there's now less surface area for you to work with so i actually found that the controls were actually a little bit difficult to interface with specifically the slide catch i don't know if that's just my experience but it is something that i noticed definitely not the hugest deal in the world i can work around it but i do wish the slide catch was a little bit less stiff the second thing i noticed was that the finish on this gun is not as durable as i would have liked the legion obviously comes with a special coating that gives it that legion gray color i took it outside and took some pictures with it on my patio and i already noticed that the finish on the front of the gun was starting to wear off it doesn't affect the performance of the gun so i'm not going to hold it too much against it but i do wish the finish was a little bit more durable especially when you consider the price point of this thing and the fact this is considered to be sig's top tier line so the fact that the finish is already coming off after just taking some pictures outside on the patio is a little disappointing so the last thing i would actually comment on has nothing to do with the gun itself but rather the legion brand overall i personally think the whole members only marketing that sig uses for the legion line is a little silly yes it's cool you can get a challenge coin for your gun you can get a custom carrying case and you can get members only access to parts of the sig online store but to me all that exclusivity only matters if the product itself is good and since sig does deliver on that part the gun is awesome yes the line is a little gimmicky but at the end of the day the product is great so really can't complain too much so overall guys even though we are living in gaston's generation this gun is absolutely still relevant and if you're in the market for a hammer-fired gun you'd be hard-pressed to not at least consider the 229 legion especially when you think about what you actually do get for your money marketing and gimmicks aside this is a fantastic firearm and i can definitely recommend to anybody who's considering making the leap to go ahead and buy one so that's today's video guys hope you guys enjoyed thank you so much for watching i do have some more content that i'm planning on getting out here real soon but until then we'll see you next time
