[Music] hi caleb with brownells here in today's quick tip we're going to be going over some of the differences between the legion series sig p series versus the standard cigs and there's a lot of different cigs out there you have your nitrons your uh your older ones your your military ones your m and mark designations but i'm just gonna be going over some of the differences between the legion series p226 and the non-legion series so in front of us here we have this legion series p226 right so this is my personal gun and then we have a standard sig 229 now i know they're different sizes but everything i say here is going to apply to both of them so it doesn't really matter and if you're not familiar with the difference between just the standard 226 and 229 the 229 is just a compact version of the 226 and i'll just kind of show you what i'm talking about here and as you can see the 226 which is this one here the legion has a longer barrel and a little bit longer grip than this 229 but for all the actual differences in legion series like i said it'll apply to both across the board and yes they do make a 2-2-9 legion as well so let's just kind of start with the actual cosmetics because as you can see they are a different color so the 226 legions actually have a pvd coating on them versus your standard nitride coatings on your standard sigs which they still both use stainless steel slides but you get different coatings which with this pvd coating you get a harder better coating and a little bit more corrosion resistance and things like that and funny story this is actually a flood gun it went through a flood and you can't even tell you can see obviously there's a lot of holster wear and different things like that on this particular gun because like i said this is my personal gun and i carry it quite often and whenever these guns first came out some of the reviews they were getting was about holster wear they were they were noticing a lot of obvious holster wear but honestly with any firearm you're going to get holster wear that's just the nature of carrying a firearm there's no coating that's that's completely resistant to holster wear whether it be ppd cerakote you know whatever so that's just the nature of the beast if you're going to carry your gun except the fact that it's going to look like you carry your gun and before i get too deep into everything it is really important to note that the legion is a premium version of this firearm and with that it is more expensive but i think it's worth the money i'll tell you why i think it's worth the money uh kind of at the end of this but let's just keep moving there so the sights every legion comes with the sig x-ray night sights uh this standard sig like this one here uh just comes with a standard white dot sight and there are some other sigs like the nitron that come with night sights but it's not going to be these x-ray sites and i will note for for those of you who are familiar you may have noticed while i was moving it around here i did actually change out the rear sight on this the one it comes with is a square notch rear sight i prefer the u-notch so i'll switch it to a u-notch if you don't know the difference differences uh between those we did a video on that so you can go check that out as well and you know night sights yeah so and on the x-ray sites it comes with a green front and a plain black rear uh like i said i'd change this one out but on the factory one it's a plain black as well all right so let's talk about some of the other features so every legion will come with a rail on the bottom some 226's do not some do like i said the nitron does as well but you also get some much different ergonomics so whenever you put your hand on a legion versus a standard 226 you'll notice that the grip and for especially in my case actually contacts more of my hand and i think that's the way they kind of angled the rear here versus how they stand how they do it with their other grips they kind of have a hump on them but this one fits really nicely into the hand you have some front strap checkering up here you have some checkering on your bottom so your support hand kind of tucks nicely up under there helps keep your support hand in place and then you have some checkering on the front as well and one thing i really like about this is you have this undercut right here and this undercut helps you get nice and just into the gun it feels like and on your standard sig whether it be a 229 or 226 you don't really have that uh that deep cut that and that cut makes a huge difference i can't i can't even tell you like shooting the gun holding it it makes it so much more comfortable and the grips themselves are g10 um they have the cool you know legion logo in there now but if you've ever felt g10 grips you know you have the checkering on them can be uh pretty aggressive this one however is not too aggressive which is something i really like about it and if you look on the side here they kind of build it up where your thumb would rest which is kind of interesting because another thing they did was shrink all of the controls you can see here between these two guns the controls on the legion are actually much smaller smaller but they have a more aggressive texture on them which i was kind of iffy about when i first saw but after like shooting and manipulating it this magazine button is pretty much flush with the grip so you have to want to hit it to engage it but it's easy to get to and engage and like i said it has a more aggressive texture than a standard sig dust so that helps out a lot same thing with your decocker lever it's shrunken down one of the big things a lot of people either love or hate about this gun is going to be that slide catch because that slide catch is way smaller now so it's a little bit more difficult to operate whenever you're locking the slide back manually but for disengaging it actually works really well it's easy to get to and even though it's shrunken down it's it's really easy to use one of the biggest features of the sig legion is going to be this beavertail if you look at just a standard sig here you notice there's a huge difference in that beaver tail and what that does especially working with this undercut up here underneath your trigger guard it allows you to get higher into the gun without having to worry about hammer bites so you're closer to that bore axis which makes it i know 9 mil doesn't have a lot of recoil but it makes it even more manageable which is a one of the probably one of the best features of the sig legion or second best uh it's debatable i'll get to the next one here shortly but just that alone makes the extra price worth it for me that's the point right there that makes all the difference in this gun and if you were to buy or for example if you were to do some gunsmithing to a standard sig to get it close to a legion you would end up spending way more than the price difference between a standard sig and the legion which is why it's just worth it to get the legion um no sig isn't paying me any money to say this uh this is just my personal opinion like i said this is my personal gun now let's get to the last thing i'm going to go over here and that's going to be the trigger the trigger in this gun is not a standard sig trigger it's a complete custom grey gun trigger that they did specifically for the sig series so the trigger pull itself is way different it's easier to stage that trigger versus your standard sig and if you're not familiar with that staging the trigger is whenever you're in double action getting that trigger ready to the point of firing and then just squeezing that extra little bit so it's really easy to operate that first shot in double action and of course every shot after that's going to be single action and the single action trigger pulls amazing not only that but the reset is super short and this sick here [Music] reset on this a lot further out on that standard sig trigger i'll let you see that one more time so huge difference there great guns did an excellent job with a lot of the features on this gun so if you were in the market or you were wondering uh what the main differences were between the legion series and a standard sig uh those are there's a few other small ones here and there but those are the primary differences that make the actual uh actual case for the gun worth it in my opinion so if you have any questions or comments or if you have any experience with the legion series positive or negative let us know in the comments down below i'll be happy to hear from you and if you haven't already go ahead and hit that like and subscribe button that helps us out on youtube more than you think thanks for joining us and we'll see you next time [Music] you
