Sig M17

all right boys and girls let's get this party started today ah yeah buddy guys welcome back this is Eric here with Iraq veteran 8888 hope everybody's having a great day and thanks for tuning in today we're gonna be checking out the six-hour m17 I've been super excited about wanting to get this handgun out to do a video on ever since we did our video initially on the 320 as you guys know sig was awarded a 100,000 piece contract with the US Army for the production of this pistol so I'm sure that's pretty exciting news for them as you know it's now called Liam 17 and it's in military service I definitely want to take a moment to thank the folks at Big Daddy Unlimited for making sure that we have the resources we need to put out videos some of this stuff's kind of hard to find you know with the covin 19 stuff going on they've done a great job of making sure we can stay in the things that we need to make video so kudos to them alright so you remembered the initial video we did on the 320 talking about it being a truly modular pistol design well the US Army basically you know they had their modular pistol program where they had a competition and they got all different manufacturers to submit designs for modular handgun to replace the m9 well the overall production numbers that are going to occur on these pistols are supposed to be somewhere in the half a million range total between all the services right now the army has a hundred thousand of them I think the Marine Corps is going to buy some thirty or thirty-five thousand of them of course Coast Guard Air Force you know Navy all services of the military and are in some way shape or form going to be using this handgun in some degree but they wanted a truly modular system so there's some changes over the 320 going to the M 17 we will discuss those changes I brought the old gun with me to show you we'll shoot a little bit more that was 124 grain Remington ball ammunition okay we're going to go down the line here and we going to be trying out a variety of different ammunition I'm going to shoot the gun a little bit more this is some 115 grain Winchester forged steel case ammo so we're going to be shooting steel case and brass case ball hollow points everything will go down the rabbit hole here and discuss a little bit more I'm gonna shoot some as I'll talk alright steel case and the gun shoots right where it's looking no doubt there so some changes okay the military version all the ones that I've seen that the Army's issuing has all tan hardware this is a civilian version that has black hardware so that's one initial observation that I noticed there you've of course got a tan slide tan frame full-sized slide but with the slightly shorter frame on it if you look at the 320 it has a full size rail on it you can see they cut a little bit of that rail section back but of course because this is such a modular handgun you can really use whatever module you want which makes it super super easy to mess with there is a manual safety okay that was likely one requirement that they have was to have some form of a safety okay and this gun is completely ambidextrous slide stop and safety can be manipulated from both sides of the pistol this is an optics ready platform okay it's ready to go got the slide Rider cut right on it there's a pair of screws that can be accessed from the bottom of the slide to remove the plate and put a slide writer on there also something I thought was really cool I love how beefy and robust the rear sight is I mean that is a big old rear sight that you can use for a bunch of different things I mean I can I can work the pistol I can do whatever I need to do with that rear sight so it's nice and big and it's cool if they put this little cut in here so this cut lets a little bit more light into the sight but without sacrificing a good clean sight picture okay so you still have a perfect notch in the rear and a nice discernible front sight but with that cut allowing a little more light in there okay so the sights pick up a little bit more naturally so that's a cool functional thing that they did also forward cocking serrations as as well as rear cocking serrations rail system of course that lower is generally about the same as a standard civilian pistol other than the cut for the safety you can get a safety delete pin kit for this gun if you don't want the safety you can actually delete the safety and just to install the pin and you're good to go okay all in all though really cool setup also a loaded chamber indicator that's one of the thing that they added to this pistol beyond the standard 320 does not have a loaded chamber indicator and lacks a few of the basic features now at its heart the 320 is a very very similar gun I mean this is a 320 it was designed from that modular system and in case you guys don't know one of the things that makes this gun so modular is that the chassis system that is inside the gun is a sewer lies portion the frames are not the serialized portion on this gun so that's cool if let's say you buy a m17 or 320 or an m-80 nor any of the other guns like that you can have your chassis and say you want to call it Wilson combat order you have an awesome wilson combat frame okay you can do that and just drop your trigger mechanistic ool thing about having the ability to have extra parts and things ship straight to your front door if you want to change out your frame or whatever you don't have to go through an FFL because the serialized portion that goes on the form is this internal piece that you'll see here in a second but man you know I can see why this particular pistol was chosen now we're not going to get into the semantics of which gun is better you know the 19 X or the M 17 we're going to do that in a future video you guys know that the 19 X was submitted by Glock to compete with the M 17 I've got my thoughts about each one but I can see why this one was Cho and we'll go over that in a future video but we're gonna I'm going to shut up we're going to shoot this thing federal 115 grain ball ammunition alright alright Safety's in a nice comfortable spot to get to the the trigger on this gun reminds me a lot of a of like an MP the way it breaks and then the reset is nice and discernible kind of like a Glock it's sort of like a hybrid in a way in terms of just the way the trigger feels to me with a lot of MMP pistols the standard trigger does leave a little bit to be desired when you come off that trigger you actually have to call up apex and order a clicker kit to get like a nice discernable reset on the trigger on an M&P but this you get a bit of that you get that nice discernible reset that's nice and smooth the trigger brakes really really nice and clean real nice nice trigger those are yeah 17 shot mags and then we have 21 shot mags now this is 124 grains spear gold ammunition so this is carry ammo and we can see with the magazine inserted into the pistol doesn't really stick out that much further a nice compact setup and that gives you definitely some nice generous capacity in a carry unit all right here's some defensive loads out of the M 17 or loaded chamber indicator 'he's doing its job we can see it sticking up to warn me that there's a round in the chamber and someone who's using this pistol and operational configuration you can simply reach down with your thumb and you can feel that little tit hanging up and you know that the pistol is chambered and ready to go Safety's engaged we're going to disengage your safety and shoot I'm gonna blow up some of our soda bottles here with our spear gold ammo I'll shoot a little group here first see how how that you I pulled that one shot Batman nice group I mean that's 20 yards I can't imagine getting in a handgun fight further than that but man impressive yeah oh yeah I'll take it man why couldn't we have cool toys like this back in 2005 man you guys are lucky that are being issued this this is hands down a hundred and ten percent better than m9 now I will say this okay that beretta has come a long way with the m9 pistol and the newer versions of m9 that they're coming out with are fantastic they are wonderful wonderful wonderful handguns but the military wanted modularity and it just wasn't quite modular enough for their needs and I can see why they went with this pistol because it is super super easy to mess with in terms of changing things on it if you're an armorer okay and let's say that Joe comes in and hey my pistols not working you can just reissue him a different serial number trigger pack take the old trigger pack in for maintenance fix it refurbish it do whatever you got to do and you can send Joe back out in the field to go fight or this thing falls down a flight of stairs and break something okay you can simply change all those components out and Joe serial number stays the same okay he may give him a little pouch to put his trigger pack in or whatever or have the armor or do whatever he needs to do from a standpoint of unit level armoring work in terms of being armored this is a much much better solution than something like an m9 okay so I can see why they went with that all right this is federal Sentech action pistol 150 grain total synthetic jacket ammunition like red that's kind of cool red for dad I guess okay good stuff yeah I like it one thing I'll mention about magazines okay normally these guns come with like two or three mags I think they come with two Seventeen's and like a twenty one shot like that one okay I actually did get a kovat 19 disclaimer card okay in the in this pistol box alright because of supply issues they're unable to ship all the magazines with the gun so I was able to procure some extra mags from Big Daddy and I had some from my existing 320 so I was able to supplement our magazines but the gun only came with one magazine but sig is making up for that that they have acknowledged that there is a supply issue so that's cool them to at least offer to replace the missing mags that's very nice of them and what I'd like to start doing I'm gonna let this thing cool down just a little bit just get a little warm I would like to when we do these pistol reviews I'd like to start showing off a cool piece of gear or cutlery along with the pistol so I thought a really nice pairing okay would be this Hogue here this one was designed by Allen Elish wits and this one is the e x fo one and you can see it's got this just beautiful tan finish g10 handles and that's a nice pairing for our pistol man look at that they're like born to be together like a couple of kittens okay go going with their mommy all right got this awesome Chief look at that that's cool so I thought that was a really nice pairing for this particular video we want to make sure we're showing off cool cutlery and always been a fan of what Hoag does because they bring in really really good people to design cutlery for them and that is just a fantastic knife right there something really cool to go with that m17 all right so we're going to keep shooting we've got our tool ammo 115 grain Full Metal Jacket go ahead shoot this thing a little bit more it is windy out here I got stuff blowing around that's okay what a fantastic pistol man fantastic love it okay spear lawman 147-grain TMJ try a few these out we're trying to you know show off some different ammo for you guys yeah okay I'm gonna take a moment let this thing cool down then repaint the steel and we'll group a little bit of carry ammo here out of the m17 let's do it you're gonna group a little bit of spear 147-grain standard pressure gold ammo out of the em 17 pistol and look guys this isn't really meant to be anything scientific we're just trying to get a idea the practical accuracy the gun we've already been running 320 a lot over these last couple of years I love the 320 so this of course was a natural progression for me to want this pistol and have to say I'm jealous the army has got one fantastic pistol here I love it [Applause] [Music] well that group over there on the right yeah we can we can take that one home that's a that's a good group I know it's just five shots I don't really consider myself to be like some uber proficient pistol marksman but I'll tell you what for a combat unit yeah buddy you better believe I'm happy with that accuracy 100% 147-grain federal HST standard pressure ammunition out of our twenty one shot standard capacity magazine all right yeah buddy love it okay yeah you could take that to the bank boys and girls absolutely man I could not be happier with that accuracy out of this pistol man gosh yeah [Music] [Music] yeah Oh son that is one straight-shooting pistol 150 grain action pistol syntek 80 yards [Applause] upside down at 80 yards oh come on now get in there wait a minute I shoot better groups upside down than I do right-side up what's wrong with me okay enough toying around you guys get the idea just have a little fun okay we're gonna shoot the gun a little bit more we got some ball ammo here I was a little skeptical at first you know when you think well why in the world would the military want to replace the m9 because m9 is a great pistol now I can see why I mean that this is a fantastic pistol system it really really is even beyond the modularity if you don't even consider the modularity of the of the system it's just a great gun to start out with right and for the guys out there they're getting into super operator mode and are running red dots John Lovell and I had a discussion about red dots recently and he definitely changed my opinion on them a little bit so we will be running more red dots you know in future videos but I really wanted this video to be about the gun just as it ships you know the modularity suite okay I like it I'm gonna shoot a little bit more and let you guys get back to it good stuff good stuff 115 grain Federal Champion all right we
