wolverines in white and the modesto junior college pirates last week the pirates got a big win at laney college second time in a row they've won at oakland sierra was supposed to have a home game against city college of san francisco but that game ended up getting moved to san francisco and that was all rams as they got the big win over sierra college sierra the the pirates won the toss but they deferred so they're going to kick off they'll get the ball to start the second half i'm chris babcock it's great to be back to modesto jc thanks to all our partners who have helped us bring you this broadcast specifically modesto junior college kicking off will be nathan valdez according to coach stivers a top kicking prospect that at the top of the ladder in the last six seasons he's been the head coach keys of the game first for the pirates is don't get trapped they've got city college of san francisco had another lopsided win today on the road against sac city so the pirates will host city college of san francisco of course that game will be here live on norcal sports tv don't get trapped don't get beat on the big pass plays which they have gave up three against laney last week and improving the passing game um they were nine of 23 in the past game of course ran the ball very well against laney according to coach noonan their keys stop the run run the ball limit explosive plays and create explosive plays they'll like they'll like to take deep shots and win the turnover battle they had three fumbles against city college of san francisco 97 yards rushing and 137 passing we're kind of in a different vantage point than in the past we're at bleacher level so we'll do the best to give you all the action two by two set for the wolverines in white throws off his back foot and it's incomplete quentin pilcher colbert was 8-15 97 yards two touchdowns but also had a fumble and the wolverines will get right back up to the line of scrimmage it's second and ten and it's an inside run and it'll pick up about five and it'll be third and five pirates on defense led by d'angelo bellamy and peyton bradford had a great game last week against laney the rush d the improving the passing game this week inside run to michael ramos good to see him before the game he had a great start to his career and then got hurt against american river but good to see him a really speeding things up anthony freyas had a great game last week his debut 17 carries 160 yards three touchdowns speed option and it's a little trick play coach divers reaches in reaches into the teammates and old friends that came earlier um i really like the one-on-one training uh the coaches really tried to get like the connections with the the kids uh during the camp so i think that was really good part of it i liked um the drills the ball handling drills and shooting drills i think you know one thing that's very underrated here at the camp was like meeting new people because i thought personally i thought there's gonna be like very little people here from all around here valdez will come in and we'll have a lot better shot once that sun goes down we promise 14-7 see if the wolverines can answer on the road valdez with his i was going to give him a touch back but he'll run it out and and he'll get it out to the 20 where the wolverines will start their third drive of the game so next week we'll be here as the pirates host city college of san francisco has had two big wins they beat sierra then beat sac city today inside run dustin lewis who had the nice catch the 49ers used to train and some people in rocklin will say well 49ers need to go back to training in rocklin and then win super bowls because whenever they train in rocklin they won super bowls sweep then we've got a penalty is that a post play penalty oh the outside guy runs an end route the slot runs a corner out wide open deal robinson ron velasquez on for the kick and it is up and good let's watch that touchdown one more time [Applause] [Music] wide open believe that was 23-yard touchdown pass and it's 21-14 7-17 left in the quarter but the pirates pass defense looking to improve from but holds on to the football had a chance to catch up with lucas sierra 65-yard drive in less than a minute and 15. pretty impressive we got a penalty so this will nullify the play so the receiver must have been number 80 must have been covered up therefore he's not eligible ramos is not eligible to go down field he did and you can't so that's a penalty so it'll be first and 15 for the pirates for loss last week and he came in like a mad wolverine on that play nice hit it'll be third and four wolverines would love to get a stop here and get the football back sellers deflected in and out of defensive sierra gave up nearly 600 yards last week doing a much better job tonight pitch and catch pilcher to deal robinson said his name a number of times pilcher throwing the ball on time the concept of the offense mass substitutions here on third and short now you're always leery of a procedure in these situations clock running here pirates host city college of san francisco sierra get south immediately this is the result of the play 239 and running here and the wolverines threatening to tie this game colbert don't want to take a sack here do not want to take a sack the pirates would love to sack him he does the thing that you can't teach quarterbacks to do you try until they do it then they realize just throw the ball away sometimes it can be the player can throw for five touchdowns do all these great things but sometimes that could be the best play that a quarterback can make there after the big gain and the first down you're knocking on the door of the red zone it's first intending you just simply throw the ball away you don't try to be a hero every play is not a touchdown or what i like to say every play is not a parade so some maturity right there by pilcher colbert so you've been thrown thrown thrown and then it's an inside run to warfield and he'll pick up four at second third and six in four down territory they don't want to give the pirates the ball that i've had in the past yeah i was able to get a scholarship to cal state fullerton through academic success and athletic success here through teachers and coaching it's like a family i mean we're always looking out for each other and always making sure hey what can i do for you i got a student that needs this hey i got somebody that needs this class or i have this class open what can we do for field at the 30-yard line returned by niko mendoza and the pirates will take over on the 30-yard line 8-14 left here in the fourth the momentum is with the wolverines and see if the pirates can get some offense going here campyotti with the power pass to baldwin and he picks up about 16 yards and then we have a penalty we'll see who this is on typical rusty stivers all the momentum's in the hands of sierra and once he run power pass to baldwin sneaks out to the flat turns up the field and picks up the first down so there's a sideline warning on modesto they'll have to write a nice note to the power pass baldwin then turns up the field and drives and gets the first down nice 15-yard gain on first down to put the momentum back into the pirates treasure chest play pass campaign he's got all day to throw he's got an open receiver but then it's intercepted can't be throw force that throw and khalil foy [Applause] with the interception [Music] [Applause] campaign would have been first tackler misses and this is what the result is [Applause] chops had a shot in the backfield to make the play but dejesus with the speed to burn turns the corner and it's a big gain for the pirates sierra has all three time-outs left split backfield dejesus in motion he'll get the bubble screen and he [Applause] maneuvers through traffic and will pick up another first down dejesus i believe has over 200 yards of total offense that's kickoff return pot return receiving and rushing clock winds ball on the 19. dejesus will get a little water campaigni has ramos set to his left three by one bubble screen to curtis [Applause] he's fighting gets into the end zone 19 yards campyotti to the sophomore lucas curtis [Applause] and the pirates now lead by two and i imagine they'll come out and kick the extra point sierra still has all three timeouts and i need to go to my backup score sheet and the kick is no good so it's just a two-point game and that swing a little momentum back to sierra but the pirates answer on a 70-yard drive two minutes and 24 seconds and the pirates 48-46 we show that touchdown again jace [Music] simple bubble screen out here to curtis and look at the blocking by the wide receivers they do their job therefore curtis gets into the end zone valdez will tee it up people yell watch the onside there's no way they're gonna on sidekick they're gonna kick this ball deep and play defense with the lead [Applause] nice return until max arrascon finishes this play that's a wrap and a finish [Applause] so sierra ball on their own 24 231 left they have all three timeouts warfield shifts and he'll get the handoff [Applause] runs and gets out of the out of bounds so i like the call play calling there by sierra don't necessarily have to throw the ball every down they've had a very effective running game here in the second half and one of the keys for coach noon to come in this game is establish the run in the second half amen they have the pirates fans yelling defense shallow cross to merza and he's tackled short of the first down so it'll be third and short mirza so much tonight on that shallow cross and there's usually a four route it's a 10 yard in behind that and then maybe a route even deep or we like to call that bean dip layers under two minutes left third down pins running out of ink 94 points scored in this game warfield picks up the first down and then makes an even better play of running out of bounds and stopping the clock 128 left sierra i want to emphasize they still have three timeouts left as you can see on the scoreboard smart run by warfield lewis will come in for him now colbert he's rushed will scramble picks up the first down and wisely gets out of bounds [Applause] so except for the shallow cross all the wise decision and just throws it out of bounds mirza was in the area so it'll be second and ten but no the officials will call it illegal grounding i mean mirza was within 10 yards of that throw grounding it's going to be a loss of down and it'll be a spot foul yes indeed that's unfortunate for sierra a big break for the pirates so now it's third and ugly [Applause] i like this time out here past defense they still gave up a lot of passing yards tonight but improve their passing game which indeed they have for coach noonan was stopped the run and run the ball they've done they've played better run defense in the second half they've certainly established the run in the second half limit the explosive plays of the pirates i mean the pirates have some explosive plays i mean you've given up 48 points so that probably hasn't happened and win the turnover battle so they had an interception they recovered on the the fumble on the punt block so they have won the turnover battle but that doesn't matter [Applause] it is second and second and 20. so they must not it's weird thought was a loss of down colbert he fumbles and that'll probably do it ball slipped out of his hands and the pirates recover malona pulley with the recovery [Applause] sierra still does have two timeouts [Music] ball just slipped out of his hands and pulley with the recovery so it'll be victory formation for the pirates [Applause] still has two timeouts and we've seen funnier things happen ramos runs up the middle and it's a quick timeout by the wolverines there's no moral victories in sports but i got a credit for sierra because there were times in this game they could have rolled up the the carpet and headed home and they battled and had the lead late in the game but the pirates offense was able to take advantage and lucas curtis with the touchdown but they've got to be proud of their effort and something to build off after a ugly week one against city college of san francisco so they'll host west hills and next saturday up in rocklin and the pirates will host city college of san francisco and once again just like to thank all of you joining us here tonight wherever you may be pirates have to run a couple of maybe about three more plays here [Applause] and then final timeout for sierra nice play in open space there by jonathan stewart for sierra so if you bet this game in las vegas and shot of the modesto stands good crowd here tonight nice group folks came down from rocklin and they're gonna drive home disappointed but they left it all out here in the field because at one time they trailed 35 to 14 but they battled back they had they took the lead led 46-42 but then campaigni to curtis made it 48-46 the defense recovered okay guys and modesto will kick off we want to talk about night and day from week one to week two the wolverine showed great improvement so sierra will come out on offense trailing by nine [Applause] [Applause] russell with the catch and that'll move the chains for the wolverines and they'll get right up under the football they need a quick touchdown and an outside kick but then they're wasting time resetting the formation colbert tackled in the backfield peyton bradford and that probably will just about do it bradford's got home a couple of times with the sack wolverines run one more play it'll be intercepted [Applause] i'd recap this game but it would take me an hour but the pirates win 55-46 pirates were pretty consistent 14 in the first 14 of the second 14 in the fourth and then they get 13 in the fourth quarter to get the 55 to 46
